Many across Dallas mourned the loss of 46-year old police officer Darron Burks over the weekend as a friend, colleague and family member but also paid tribute to a man they said was selfless in the pursuit of helping others. BUFFALO, NY- July 16, 2024 – A new #editorial paper was #published in Oncotarget's Volume 15 on June 20, 2024, entitled, “HER2-low and HER2-zero in breast cancer between prognosis, prediction and entity.” In this new editorial, researchers Marcus Schmidt, Hans-Anton Lehr, and Katrin Almstedt from the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University discuss HER2 in breast cancer. HER2 is a well-established prognostic and predictive factor in breast cancer, which is associated with a poor prognosis but also offers the chance of improved survival when treated with targeted therapies based on the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab, both in advanced (hazard ratio (HR) 0.82, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.71 to 0.94, P = 0.004) and in early (HR 0.66, 95% CI 0.57 to 0.77, P < 0.00001) stages. The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)/College of American Pathologists (CAP) defines HER2-positivity as either 3+ by immunohistochemistry (IHC) or 2+ with amplification by in situ hybridization (ISH). Yet, the vast majority of breast tumors are considered HER2- negative (IHC 0 or 1+ or 2+ without amplification) by these criteria, and it has until recently been accepted that HER2-negative tumors do not benefit from trastuzumab based therapy. “Now, results of randomized trials with trastuzumab-based antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) such as trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) have fundamentally challenged this long-held view.” DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/oncotarget.28598 Correspondence to - Marcus Schmidt - marcus.schmidt@unimedizin-mainz.de Video short - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ROlLZo82uY Sign up for free Altmetric alerts about this article - https://oncotarget.altmetric.com/details/email_updates?id=10.18632%2Foncotarget.28598 Subscribe for free publication alerts from Oncotarget - https://www.oncotarget.com/subscribe/ Keywords - cancer, breast cancer, HER2, HER2-low, prognostic, predictive About Oncotarget Oncotarget (a primarily oncology-focused, peer-reviewed, open access journal) aims to maximize research impact through insightful peer-review; eliminate borders between specialties by linking different fields of oncology, cancer research and biomedical sciences; and foster application of basic and clinical science. The owner and developer of several downtown Fresno buildings is on track to add the former University Medical Center property to his portfolio. The Coast Guard said Tuesday it had recovered "additional presumed human remains" and what is believed to be the last of the debris from the Titan submersible, which imploded in June. A Mississippi man pleaded guilty to several counts of threatening interstate communication and cyberstalking after he began sending threatening messages to his former supervisor and other co-workers in Fresno in an attempt to extort them for money. It's been almost three decades since the world lost one of the most influential rap & hip-hop artists of all time...the legendary Tupac Shakur. On the night of September 7, 1996, Tupac was shot while sitting at a car at a stoplight at the corner of Flamingo Road & Koval Lane, just east of the Vegas Strip. He died 6 days later at University Medical Center. The case has remained unsolved for the past 27 years and the circumstances surrounding the murder have been shrouded with uncertainty & speculation with multiple theories floating around on who killed Tupac. Joining me for this episode of the podcast to shed some light on the crime & peel away a few layers of the mystery is true crime author & journalist, Cathy Scott. Cathy is the author of The Killing of Tupac Shakur: Who Did It and Why? which is considered to be one of the best books ever written on the subject of Tupac's murder. At the time of the shooting, Cathy was working as a reporter for the Las Vegas Sun and she was one of the first people in the world to report Tupac's death. Cathy & I took a deep dive into the case covering everything from the timeline of events the night of the shooting, to the bungled police investigation, to recent developments in the story. In this episode of The New CISO, Steve is joined by guest Maria Sexton, Chief Information Officer at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. Before starting her security career, Maria worked as a self-described secretary, seeking a better financial future for her family. Now, with her dream job, she shares how to become a strong communicator and leader. Tune into today's episode to learn more about Maria's passion for the healthcare industry, her strong people skills, and why you shouldn't fake it until you make it.Listen to Steve and Maria discuss being confident in your strengths while understanding your weaknesses and what first-graders and board members have in common:Meet Maria (1:36)Maria reflects on why her current role is her dream job. With a diverse background, Mara found that healthcare customers were the people she wanted to serve. She didn't plan on landing in healthcare, but she resonates with the mission of the field, which is why she feels she has her dream job. She recommends that everyone find an industry that aligns with them.Getting Her Start (6:00)Before starting her IT path, Maria worked as a secretary, a term not often used today. During this time, Maria went through personal family issues and needed to evaluate her financial future for herself and her children.Always interested in computers, Maria talked to the IT department at her company and asked how to get involved. Their advice led Maria to get a certificate, thus beginning the rewarding career she has today. It was scary initially, but Maria allowed herself to try and fail to succeed.Successful Communication (13:39)Steve presses Maria on whether she always had the clarity and confidence she showcases today.Maria understood she would never be an engineer, but her strengths lay in being diligent and taking notes. Therefore, she was excellent at communicating technology to people without a technology background, giving her a robust career skill set. Empathy, communication, and public speaking abilities made her the leader she is today.Explaining to a First Grader (16:33)Maria shares her experience talking to her granddaughter's first-grade class about her job. She found these kids incredibly bright and showed a firm understanding of technology and computers.Learning how to communicate technology ideas to an audience without experience is critical. Standing Out (23:45)When evaluating a resume, Maria likes to see if they have motivation. Nowadays, more people than ever are interested in security. So, it's essential to evaluate if the people coming in are serious.Maria is looking to hire a self-starter who takes advantage of the resources available to work in security. She also admires when applicants understand their strengths and weaknesses and where they can be best utilized.Confidence In Communication (27:22)Maria could always communicate effectively. As the child of Italian immigrants, Maria was responsible for speaking on behalf of her parents and helping them navigate the US.Her childhood also gave her empathy and the ability to read non-verbal cues, which has been helpful throughout her career. Learning to communicate with those around you is critical, no matter your role.Don't Fake It Until You Make It (39:51)In terms of security, you really can't fake it because the consequences could be dire. But outside of security, Maria has never liked the phrase “fake it until you make it.”This saying irks Maria because she thinks it is terrible advice. If you don't know something, you should learn it. If you need a mentor, find one. You should want to get whatever you don't have because...
G'day Folks, Myself and the lads were unable to connect over the weekend but as luck would have it a random day off during the week allowed me to connect with Adam from the CrazzFiles.com to bring you the latest General Knowledge Podcast episode. On this one Adam and I bring up topics and information that has been covered in the past but only because it has become relevant once again. Especially as the climate and COVID narratives begin to fall apart at the seams. We kick off with a discussion about the climate and green energy scam. The perpetrators of the scam bang on about how we need to be sustainable and use renewable energy however they're prepared to destroy the environment in order to do it. It's such a paradox (links below). The media is complicit in the scam and manipulation of the public perception as they alter weather graphics on news programs to show scary red heatwave areas when temperatures in those areas are cooler now than 5 years ago. We move on to the latest revelations that Adam himself has been covering as they develop on his own podcast. Namely the senate inquiries into Pfizer and the TGA by Senator Malcolm Roberts and Senator Gerard Rennick. Watch as the TGA and Pfizer reps make startling admissions and squirm under the pressure only to contradict themselves as well. We also recall how a head nurse at the University Medical Center in Ljubljana, Slovenia broke the news when she resigned her post that there are in fact 3 types of COVID vaccines, Placebo's for the leaders and wealthy and 2 other for the rest of us. This was confirmed to a degree by Malcolm Roberts who questioned Pfizer reps that disclosed their own employees received a special vaccine just for them. Different to the product they pushed on the Australian public. This leads us to discuss COVID vaccine ingredients. Specifically graphene oxide. A video produced by InfoWars shows amazing yet scary details of independent studies of the vaccine vials and their ingredients. Graphene Oxide has some incredible abilities. Is this the reason for all the harm worldwide? It has also come out that Graphene Oxide is being developed to be used in public water filtration systems. "Researchers at The University of Manchester's National Graphene Institute (NGI) have achieved a long-sought-after objective of electrically controlling water flow through membranes, as reported in Nature. This is the latest exciting membranes development benfitting from the unique properties of graphene. The new research opens up an avenue for developing smart membrane technologies and could revolutionise the field of artificial biological systems, tissue engineering and filtration." It appears we're only just scratching the surface of what's to come. Please be sure to give us a 5 Star Rating and Review on Apple Podcasts and any other podcasting app you use. A new research paper was published in Oncotarget's Volume 14 on July 7, 2023, entitled, “Effectiveness and toxicity of cetuximab with concurrent RT in locally advanced cutaneous squamous cell skin cancer: a case series.” Treatment for locally advanced cutaneous squamous cell cancers (laCSCC) remains poorly defined. Most laCSCC tumors express high levels of epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR). Cetuximab has activity in other EGFR expressing cancers and enhances the effectiveness of radiotherapy. In this new study, researchers Mark Chang, Wolfram Samlowski and Raul Meoz from University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, University of Nevada Las Vegas, and University of Nevada Reno conducted a retrospective review of institutional data and identified 18 patients with laCSCC treated with cetuximab induction and concurrent radiotherapy. “We performed a retrospectively review of treatment outcome and toxicity in our patients who received concurrent cetuximab and radiotherapy to show an additional potentially effective treatment option for patients with laCSCC. The goal is also to provide data to inform the design of potential prospective clinical trials.” The loading dose of cetuximab was 400 mg/m² IV. Subsequent weekly doses of 250 mg/m² IV were infused throughout the period of radiation. The treatment doses ranged from 4500–7000 cGy, with a dose fraction of 200-250 cGy. The objective response rate was 83.2% with 55.5% complete responses and 27.7% partial responses. Median progression-free survival was 21.6 months. Progression-free survival was 61% at 1 year and 40% at 2 years. With longer follow-up, some patients developed a local recurrence (16.7%), distant metastases (11.1%) or a second primary cancer (16.3%). Cetuximab was well tolerated, with 68.4% patients experienced only mild acneiform skin rash or fatigue (Grade 1 or 2). Radiotherapy produced expected side effects (skin erythema, moist desquamation, mucositis). “Cetuximab plus radiotherapy represents an active and tolerable treatment option for laCSCC, including patients with contraindications for checkpoint inhibitor therapy.” DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/oncotarget.28470 Correspondence to - Wolfram Samlowski - wsamlowski1@gmail.com Sign up for free Altmetric alerts about this article - https://oncotarget.altmetric.com/details/email_updates?id=10.18632%2Foncotarget.28470 Subscribe for free publication alerts from Oncotarget - https://www.oncotarget.com/subscribe/ Keywords - keratinocyte carcinoma, squamous cell skin cancer, cetuximab, epidermal growth factor receptor, radiation therapy About Oncotarget: Oncotarget (a primarily oncology-focused, peer-reviewed, open access journal) aims to maximize research impact through insightful peer-review; eliminate borders between specialties by linking different fields of oncology, cancer research and biomedical sciences; and foster application of basic and clinical science. Like a rising wave, mental health problems related to social media are growing and affecting millions of people. It's a problem that rests firmly in our hands. Our phones entertain us. They inform us and help us quickly share and obtain information, even laughter. How we interact with each other -- and our phones -- has improved and at the same time injured our relationships, our work performance, our reputations, even our wellbeing. Dr. Sofia Reynoso-Crow, a trained psychologist at the University Medical Center of El Paso, says our phones and social media are contributing to our anxiety and overall mental health in a way we've not seen before. Research indicates that teen suicide rates have risen, in tandem, with the rise of social media. However, for every problem, there's a solution and in many ways users are already finding ways to deal with the fabricated reality of social media.Production Team:Writer and host: Ryan Mielke, Director of Public Affairs, University Medical Center of El PasoAudio engineer: Diego Muniz, Manager of Video and Audio Production, University Medical Center of El PasoPlease remember to Subscribe, Rate and Review! Two people were killed and six others were injured in a stabbing on the Las Vegas Strip. Two people were killed and six others were injured when a 32-year-old man allegedly went on a stabbing spree on the Las Vegas Strip before being apprehended. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports that at 11:42 a.m. on Thursday, October 6th, officers responded to a stabbing call in the 3100 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, where one person was killed and six others were injured. The victims were taken to local hospitals, and the severity of their injuries is currently unknown. Yoni Barrios, the suspect, was arrested by the police. KLAS-TV reported that the victims, aged 47 and 30, were named as Brent Allan Hallett and Maris Mareen Digiovanni, respectively. It was said that both of them were Las Vegas locals. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department issued a press release stating there were eight confirmed fatalities. Two people died; one at the scene and another at University Medical Center. Only three of the victims are in life-threatening condition; the other three are stable. Two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and six counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon led to Barrios' booking into the Clark County Detention Center. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said in a press conference that Barrios was apprehended "within minutes" and that the victims include "a combination of locals and tourists." At the press conference, Deputy Chief James LaRochelle also stated that the assault "appears unprovoked." Barrios was accused of using a "large knife with a long blade," which was later found and confiscated by authorities. If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts!
