Here's to many years more!
Tristan Fidler and Simon Miraudo made a date to meet in the Backrooms while Pam Boland watched Say Anything on a plane. So yeah, you could say Movie Squad is back on its bulls***. On their latest Breakfast meeting, Tristan and Simon share their thoughts on Kane Parsons' big screen adaptation of his creepypasta-inspired webseries Backrooms, with Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor falling into his sparse and spooky liminal space. It's now showing in cinemas. Then, they review friend-of-the-show Radu Jude's Dracula, a satirical and obscenely trashy take on Romania's relationship with its famous bloodsucker (and film's relationship to AI), as only the iconoclastic Jude could make. It's now available on digital platforms. Stay tuned for a pod exclusive chat in which Simon and Tristan talk a little more about Radu Jude's provocations, and decide whether or not Chiwetel Ejiofor's unfortunate streak of a decade of bad films has finally ended. Learn about the new season of Tristan's Trash Classics screenings at Luna Cinemas held on the last Friday of every month. Be sure to tune in to RTRFM every Friday at 7:30am to hear Movie Squad live on Breakfast with Pam!

Check out the Evolve Community at http://evolve.geekpsychology.comIf you've ever thought about reaching out to someone and just couldn't make yourself do it, this is why. As an INFP, your lead cognitive function is introverted feeling, the Soul. It processes emotion inward by design, which means expressing those feelings outward can feel performative or even fake. The problem is your fifth function, extraverted feeling or the Envoy, is the one actually built for closing that social gap, and because it feels like a Rival to how you naturally operate, you let the Soul overthink it for months instead of letting the Envoy press send.In this video I break down the Soul vs. Rival dynamic, explain how the three Bs technique helps you borrow a different character for thirty seconds, and why this same character select principle applies to productivity, decision making, and everything else you've been overthinking as an INFP.0:00 The loop you're probably stuck in right now1:00 The character that feels everything but says nothing2:30 Why going inward isn't a flaw3:00 The character your Soul thinks is doing it wrong4:00 Why their approaches will never agree5:00 The default that's quietly costing you5:45 What three years of sitting with it actually gets you7:00 The one who just wants to press send8:00 How to borrow a different character for 30 seconds8:45 The three things you change before you take action10:00 Why this applies to everything, not just texting10:30 Where we go deeper on this

Say Anything is a classic romance movie with the famous boombox scene. But we never knew anything else about the movie. We thought it could end up being another one of those poorly aged John Hughes movies, but Cameron Crowe actually pulled off something significantly less problematic. In fact there's a massive subplot about the protagonist's dad ripping off old people? How many kisses does it deserve tho?Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Pittsburgh Steelers are like all 32 NFL teams as it pertains to preparing for the new league year, and the NFL Scouting Combine is the start of the unofficial league year. At the Scouting Combine is also when fans get to hear from the coaches and general managers who haven't spoken in a very long time. With that said, it is the first time Omar Khan has met with media since last season. Khan spoke, but did he really say anything? Can We Say Anything Meaningful About a Venezuelan Debt Restructuring? Venezuela must restructure its debt if it, and its new "friends" in Washington DC, want the economy humming again. But how? The debt stock is enormous and the range of claims so vast that normal techniques are unlikely to work. And typically, before anything could happen, the IMF would need to go in and assess the actual situation on the ground. All this takes time. But we imagine that the folks in Washington DC want to declare their adventure a success, and soon. Is that impulse consistent with an orderly, comprehensive debt restructuring? For that matter, what would a restructuring look like if we also assume that Washington wants to line its own pockets with Venezuelan oil revenues, and perhaps to give preferential treatment to oil major creditors (to entice them back into Venezuela)? We don't have answers — but we suspect that those folks in DC don't either. Producer: Leanna Doty
Send us a text In this episode, first time guest Ben Apuan joins the podcast. He brings along the movie Clerks. Marty and Clif give Ben the movie Say Anything to watch. This week on Talking Pondo, Marty and Clif are joined by Ben from Chasing the Whimsy for a deep dive into two landmark films that helped define independent cinema: Cameron Crowe's Say Anything (1989) and Kevin Smith's Clerks (1994).On the surface, these movies couldn't be more different. One is a heartfelt, romantic coming-of-age story, the other a black-and-white, foul-mouthed retail comedy. But together, they capture the shifting cultural moment between the late '80s and early '90s, when indie filmmakers proved you didn't need studio polish to say something real. The conversation digs into Clerks as a once-in-a-lifetime debut: it's handmade feel, sharp dialogue, budget-driven creativity, and the birth of the View Askewniverse. From newspaper machines and 37 infamous confessions to Jay & Silent Bob's unlikely legacy, the crew explores why Kevin Smith's $33,000 gamble still resonates decades later. They also connect the dots between both films through music, tone, first-time directors, and a shared DNA of alternative cinema that celebrate authenticity over perfection.Support the showFind our films here: The Love Song of William H Shaw Revenge of Zoe Writing Fren-ZeeMaking Pondo on FacebookX (formerly Twitter):@MakingPondoInstagramMaking Pondo on Letterboxd:Season One Season Two Season Three Season Four Theme Song "The Rain" by Russ PacePhotos by Geoffrey Notkin
In this episode, I'm joined by John Guercio for a wide-ranging and practical conversation about leadership through a behavioral lens. John and I dig into what it actually means to lead in applied behavior analysis, especially when so much of the existing leadership literature is vague, mentalistic, or disconnected from observable behavior. We start by talking about the need to operationalize leadership in behavioral terms and explore the four leadership hats developed by Dr. Paulie Gavoni: leading, training, coaching, and managing. We break down what each of these roles looks like behaviorally, how they function across time, and why effective leaders need to move flexibly between them rather than relying on a single style. A major theme of the episode is the role of positive reinforcement in leadership. John shares real-world examples from his OBM coursework and his work at Cornerstone Behavioral Services, highlighting how difficult—but necessary—it can be to shift away from punitive and avoidance-based management strategies. We discuss why punishment often "works" in the short term, why leaders continue to rely on it, and how reinforcement-based leadership creates better outcomes for both staff and organizations. We also spend time unpacking the distinction between leadership and management. John reflects on his own strengths and limitations, describing how he focuses on vision and direction while intentionally surrounding himself with strong managers who excel at systems, logistics, and follow-through. This leads to a powerful discussion about positional authority, seniority, and the myth that leadership status entitles people to treat others poorly. Throughout the episode, we return to the importance of psychological safety, consistent feedback, and emotional regulation in leadership roles. John shares practical strategies for navigating tough conversations, including how to balance empathy with accountability, how to manage staff expectations, and how to avoid letting emotion drive professional communication (including when not to send that email). We also talk through concrete tools and exercises for improving leadership practice, such as symbolic problem-solving activities to surface unspoken team issues, written acknowledgment systems, and using assessment tools like the Performance Diagnostic Checklist to guide supervision and coaching. John closes by sharing future directions for developing empirically grounded management assessment tools, along with a preview of his upcoming work and conference presentations. This is a practical, honest conversation for anyone supervising staff, leading teams, or trying to build reinforcing, values-consistent organizations in human services. This week, we revisit (or if you're Patrick, visit it for the first time) …Is A Real Boy, the album that emotionally imprinted on us in high school and then politely refused to age perfectly. We dig into Say Anything at peak goblin energy: razor-sharp lines, maximal feelings, undeniable hooks, and a few moments that make you go, “Okay… maybe not all of it needed to be here.” It's nostalgic, messy, still very fun, and absolutely deserving of a respectful nod rather than a full-on crown. Screaming optional. Gentle side-eye included.
This hour Henry wonders what is your Christmas list for each Minnesota Sports team, people that make negative comments in the wake of tragedies are pathetic, and more

From the pencil rant to the choreographed “Lower Prices, Higher Paychecks” signs behind him, the spectacle contrasts sharply with rising bankruptcies, soaring debt, shaky consumer confidence, and signs of a coming electoral backlash. This breakdown cuts through the spin, the slogans, and the stagecraft to look at what's actually happening—and why even some conservative voices are sounding the alarm.

Last week Fox News hosts twisted themselves into knots to justify Trump's conflicting actions and statements regarding the Epstein files, New York City's mayor-elect, and the affordability crisis. No one at the network seemed the least bit concerned that Trump gave the Saudi crown prince a lavish welcome despite his countries relationship with the terrorists who killed nearly 3,000 Americans during the September 11th attacks or the Saudi leader's personal involvement with the murder and dismemberment of a U.S.- based journalist.Fox also downplayed the results of its own poll that showed Trump's approval ratings plummeting with more Americans frustrated with how he is handling the U.S. economy.Folks at the network know their primary objective is to support the glorious leader and keep loyal viewers tuned into the nonstop outrage fantasy machine that is Fox News. If that means praising a man they have called a dangerous communist for months so be it. This is a public episode. The great filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro has a new adaptation of Frankenstein. He saw the 1931 film when he was 7. “I realized I understood my faith better through Frankenstein than through Sunday Mass,” he tells Terry Gross. “And I decided at age seven that the creature of Frankenstein was gonna be my personal avatar and my personal messiah.” His other films include Pan's Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. Also, we hear from Cameron Crowe, who wrote and directed Jerry Maguire, Say Anything and the semi-autobiographical film Almost Famous, about writing for Rolling Stone starting at age 15. His new memoir is about being a naive teen, exposed to the excesses of rock musicians.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland are back again … and the filters (as usual) are OFF. Mandy shares the tea about what went on last week in a Columbia, South Carolina, courtroom where her attorney Meredith Bannon argued against Mandy sitting for a deposition in a case she isn't a part of (David Voros and Alexandra Stasko v. Allison Dunnavant). The case stemmed from stories Mandy wrote before the Murdaugh murders about a University of South Carolina art professor accused of sexual harassment by a number of women. Why are there no repercussions for lawyers who take objectively bad cases that seem to have only one purpose (to harass Mandy and Allison)? Why is it OK for Mandy to be deposed when one of the plaintiffs in the bad case has plainly and publicly stated that she wants to ruin and destroy Mandy's credibility (and life)? Also on the show, what the heck happened at University of South Carolina on Sunday with the false alarm over an active shooter? And why did the school encourage people to “defend themselves against the shooter”? Plus Eric Bland has mad beef with Congresswoman Nancy Mace who — as it turns out — is allowed to SAY ANYTHING about ANYONE, as long as it's on the House floor. She — and other House members — have ABSOLUTE immunity from defamation cases stemming for what they've said in that forum according to Judge Gergel, which seems, very dangerous in this day and age. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Episode References Mandy in Jamaica with - kobe_1_love_tours on Instagram
