Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Michele Cobb discuss this surprisingly hopeful audiobook that deals with the repercussions of a mass shooting in a Boise, Idaho, bar. Hillary Huber portrays a wide range of emotions as a mother whose son has committed a horrific violent act, and who searches for ways to deal with her grief, suffers blame from the community, and works to support her son's victims. The cast gives all of the characters powerful voices that make them all feel real. Read the full review of the audiobook on AudioFile's website. Published by Dreamscape. The narrative describes the quest of the Arthurian knight, Parzival, for the Holy Grail. His journey is filled with incident, from tournaments and sieges to chivalrous deeds and displays of true love. How do music and missions intersect? Find out in this episode of the Organic Outreach® Podcast. In this episode, Adam interviews. Dr. Katherine Morehouse. Katherine and I had a chance to connect at the Amplify 2019 conference in Wheaton, IL. I learned some fascinating things about her and her work: She is an ethnomusicologist specializing in ethnodoxology and global engagement. She has researched African drumming and church music in Guinea, West Africa and has studied Hindu, Muslim, and Christian festival music in Kerala, India. She serves on the worship team at Blue Ridge Community Church. She has won several teaching awards, travel grants, as well as the Liberty University Illuminate grant, which helped provide instruments for Liberty's African Music Ensemble, which she directs. What I found most fascinating was her work with up and coming missionaries, helping train them to raise up new songwriters and worship leaders among indigenous peoples around the world. You're going to love this episode!

Don’t go chasing easy answers: This week Paul and Rich are joined by Microsoft veteran Adam Barr to speak about his new book, The Problem with Software. Barr worked as a programmer for Microsoft for over 20 years and during this time he saw a number of troubling patterns in software development. We chat with Adam about what’s changed in the industry over the years and about the need for better education for programmers. Adam also gives us an inside scoop on what it was like working for Microsoft in the old days and draws some parallels between Microsoft management and baseball. Are we all leaders because of social media? How does social media play into the struggle with envy? When does pride get mixed up into that? (And what's the relationship to all of this and self-hatred?) We explore it with pastor, author, and speaker Adam Barr. We also walk with tauntauns, wampas, (and therefore the relationship between Star Wars and Dr. Seuss), and Matt Krieg brings the Goofball Island game for the first time. Woot! Highlights: "Prayer and pride are inversely proportional. If one side is high, the other side is low. If one side is low, the other side is high." "Jesus says... 'The harvest is plentiful and the workers are few.' Then he says, 'Pray to the Lord of the harvest.' He doesn't say, 'Get up and go out there!' He says, 'Pray.' Prayer is what unleashes anything good God wants to do in his Kingdom." "Beholding the glory of God is the antidote to thinking more or less of yourself." Last year we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, but the legacy of war and communism lives on in eastern Europe. In the new issue of Granta – No Man’s Land – Peter Pomerantsev writes about propaganda in Ukraine’s Donbas region, where pro-Russian activists battle with pro-Ukrainian, pro-democracy activists and Ukrainian nationalists, whilst Philip Ó Ceallaigh tells the devastating story of the Communist destruction of Old Bucharest. They joined us for the launch of the new issue at the Frontline Club in London on Wednesday 24th February. Both writers encounter people who are longing for a strong leader to bring back security and pride. They discussed whether, following the challenges to democratic structures in Russia, Hungary, and most recently Poland, eastern Europe’s new democracies are at risk. Chaired by author and journalist Oliver Bullough, who lived and worked in Russia from 1999 – 2006. He is author of two books about Russian history and politics: The Last Man in Russia and Let Our Fame Be Great. With: Peter Pomerantsev, the author of Nothing is True and Nothing is Possible, Adventures in Modern Russia. He is a senior fellow at the Legatum Institute, where he runs a project on contemporary propaganda and how to deal with it. Philip Ó Ceallaigh is the author of two collections of short stories, Notes from a Turkish Whorehouse and The Pleasant Light of Day. At present he is working on a book about the Jewish world of Eastern Europe and its destruction, as witnessed by its writers. Audio production by Adam Barr.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! In this episode I facilitate a roundtable discussion with Adam Barr, Ron Citlau and David Kyle Foster on LGBTQ issues in church, culture and ministry. Here are the topics covered in this conversation. What's the state of the culture and church on LGBTQ issues? What were some of the significant changes we saw in 2015? How does a Gospel-centered approach to sexual wholeness look different than an approach that simply focuses on behavior modification/moral improvement? What's the connection between our biblical theology of sexuality and a pastoral approach to people who struggle? How can we move from viewing this discussion as a “culture war” issue to a real-world ministry challenge? How can we parent our children as they enter a world where gender identity and sexual orientation are approached in ways that fundamentally oppose our faith? In your opinion, what books have been a helpful contributor to the conversation? What books concern you? Why? About Today's Guests: Adam T. Barr (MDiv, ThM) serves as lead pastor at Peace Church near Grand Rapids Michigan. In addition to his work in the local church, Adam launched and leads Borderlands, a ministry that fosters next generation leadership development and served on the board of RCA Integrity, a renwal movement in the Reformed Church in America. Adam lives with his wife, Jennifer, and four sons. In his work as a writer, Adam travels the borderlands where faith and life intersect, attempting to help readers encounter Scripture as God's Word, clear, compelling and alive. Ron Citlau graduated from the University of California, Riverside and Western Theological Seminary. He has served in ministry positions in Southern California and Kansas City. He is the pastor of Calvary Church in Orland Park, Illinois, part of the Reformed Church in America. Ron struggled with same-sex attraction his whole life and has worked with and walked alongside many others who have struggled with sexual brokenness, as well as equipping pastoral leaders to serve those dealing with sexual sin. He also worked with Andrew Comiskey, producing curriculum on sexual healing now used by Desert Stream Ministries in hundreds of churches throughout the country. When he isn't working, he loves to be with his wife, Amy, and their four boys: Jack, Sawyer, Eli, and Crosby. David Kyle Foster, founder of Mastering Life Ministries, holds an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a D.Min. from Trinity School for Ministry. He also hosts Pure Passion, a televised outreach equipping believers to minister to those trapped in sexual sin and brokenness. For additional show notes, visit ShaunTabatt.com/044.
