Chapter 17 of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (1991) (EU: 9 ABY) by Timothy Zahn. The Story So FarLuke Skywalker, Leia Organa Solo, Han Solo, and Chewbacca travel to Nkllon seeking Lando Calrissian. However, before they can touch down, the mining planet is raided by the Imperials. During the ensuing space battle Luke's mind is touched by another Jedi. He intends to follow the beckon to Jomark hoping to find a master that can guide him in rebuilding the Jedi Order. Leia and Chewbacca head to the wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, while Han and Lando venture to make contact with aloof smuggling lord Talon Karrde. Grand Admiral Thrawn ambushes Luke on his heading but fails to capture him. Rather than pursue Luke further, he orders Captain Pallaeon to put a bounty on Skywalker's capture, as he refocuses the Imperial Fleet for their upcoming raid on Sluis Van.  Chapter 17As Thrawn had predicted, catastrophic failure befalls Luke's X-Wing half a lightyear after his escape. Both the hyperdrive and subspace radio are damaged beyond repair, leaving him and R2 (in his own words) where "we can't leave, we aren't likely to be found, and can't call for help". After investigating the damage, Luke decides the only thing to do is to try to reconstruct the subspace radio. Delegating the tedious task to R2, he enters a Jedi hibernation. Leia and Chewie arrive to Kashyyyk, and the tree-city of Rwookrrorro. They are greeted by Ralrracheen and Salporin, and Leia is surprised that she can communicate effectively with Ralrracheen. Leia learns a little about wookiee culture, but on the way to her supposed safehouse, she spots one of the aliens responsible for her attempted kidnapping on Bimmisaari. LinksMore in the Release Document belowThe ingenious living bridges of IndiaStar Wars X-Wing Cross SectionOn being a science consultant for Avengers: EndgameRadium Girls | Maximum FunThe Enigma of Amigara Fault (claustrophobia trigger warning)TRUE Limits Of Humanity – The Final Border We Will Never CrossShare and SupportShare this episode (cross platform link)Discuss this chapter on Discord, YouTube, or RedditSupport us on PatreonOur WebsiteRelease DocumentTranscriptHosts' ThoughtsMore in the Release Document aboveDeep Space SectionCourage the Cowardly AstromechTechnobabble: yay or nay?Luke poking around sets off my claustrophobiaKashyyyk SectionWriting around language barriersLeia is a racist?Rwrookrrorro is the village you go to in KOTOR!Support the Show.

The Spouter-Inn; or, A Conversation with Great Books

I had thought about death and the decomposition of all the particles in my body many times—to the extent that it didn't frighten me—in fact, my true wish was to be completely annihilated. The only thing that frightened me was that the atoms in my body would mix with the atoms in the bodies of the vulgar. This was an insufferable thought. Sometimes I wished that after death I would have long arms and extended fingers with which I could gather all my own atoms and hold them with both hands so that the atoms that belong to me would not enter the bodies of the vulgar.Sadeq Hedayat's novel Blind Owl is brief, curious, and often disquieting. It tells the tale of a man who paints pen-case covers, who paints the same image again and again—and old man sitting beneath a cypress tree, an alluring young woman offering him a water lily, a stream running between them. And he is haunted by this image, and especially by the woman in this image—who may also be his wife, his cousin, his mother? The setting of the novel keeps shifting, the props in the novel keep reappearing, and the characters all seem like hazy echoes of the two figures in the painting. Chris and Suzanne try to stay grounded as they discuss this marvellous gem of Iranian modernism.Content warning: The book contains some potentially disturbing imagery, and so does our discussion.Thank you to Michael Collins for helping us edit this episode.SHOW NOTES.Next: Sadeq Hedayat: Blind Owl. We're back in the cockpit and AEW just had one of their biggest wrestling shows of the year. Unfortunately Justice wouldn't let us do any sort of deep dive into the show/card so I'm using this time to tell you that not only was the MJF vs CM Punk match one of the best feuds in all of wrestling but also the main event between Adam Cole and Adam Page was one of the best matches of the year. In all honesty Revolution might end up being the best show of 2022 and it's only March. This year is going to be wild.  We also discuss music, anime, horror and get deep into Junji Ito, M. Happy Belated National Margarita Day!  Which is the best hobby - gaslighting a margarita, gatekeeping Patrick Swayze movies, or lying for fun? Follow-up question - what does that have to do with trash TV? The answer to both is the same: wouldn't you like to know, weatherboy. This week, Elyse analyzes the complex nature of reboots through the new iteration of How I Met Your Mother, which fittingly is called How I Met Your Father. What makes a good reboot? Is there such thing as a good reboot? Think on it for yourself, because we're sure not going to get into all that mess. Coming out weekly with new episodes, you can find the first few episodes of How I Met Your Father currently streaming on Hulu. Claire, on the other hand, introduces Murderville - an episodic murder mystery improv comedy show. This show has a unique concept, as every week a new guest star improvises their way through the show, giving each episode a different flair. A very interesting show who's analysis gets briefly derailed by a conversation about why Elyse is so damn suspicious all the time. Check it out now on Netflix. Before we go:  Claire: Howl's Moving Castle, the Studio Ghibli animated movie. Claire was absolutely enamored by the soupy animation and beautiful soundtrack, and highly recommends checking out this classic movie if you haven't already. Elyse: The Enigma of Amigara Fault by Junji Ito. This is a short horror manga that is sure to stick with you for far longer than you realize.  PSA: Starting next episode, we will have a new format! So enjoy the long episodes you have, because from now on you're getting mere hour-long episodes or less. Probably. Warning: This episode contains plot spoilers for the television series "How I Met Your Father" and "Murderville".  Have any questions? Comments? Suggestions? Email us at dontwatchlist@gmail.com!

It's spooky season again, and just like last year we're leading up to Halloween with discussions of Junji Ito manga. This week we discuss the new collection Venus in the Blind Spot, which is at times both unusually grounded for Ito and also high camp. We share our queerpinions on: – Venus in the Blind Spot– The sheer horror potential of a man hiding in a chair– Heterosexuality as theme in Ito's work– Recurring themes throughout and in comparison to Tomie– The Enigma of Amigara Fault as a classic in the queer lit canon– Ito's style and influence from Kazuo Umezu You can find the episode on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Podcast Addict! You can also find all our past Junji Ito episodes compiled here. Content warning: We’re a fairly NSFW podcast that includes use of reclaimed homophobic slurs. Our discussion this episode is full of spoilers for all the stories in the collection. Content-wise they include body horror, blood, necrophilia, sexism and violence against women, murder, suicide, and gore.

REAL conversations with ACTUAL friends

This week’s challenges: "The Enigma at Amigara Fault" by Junji Ito and "The Paper Menagerie" by Ken Liu. The two friends dive into the topic of belief in this episode of the podcast, but first they discuss the tear-jerking and phobia-inducing challenges for this week. In the interview segment for this week, Fran has some rapid fire questions that really get to the heart of what belief is all about. Challenges for next week: the youtube show “Weird City” episode 1, “The One,” and the game “Passage” by Jason Rohrer. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rcwaf/message

In this "tasty" episode of the 'cast, Char has a burning question "cooked up" for the interview segment. But before that, the two friends "chew the fat" about their challenges and about the theme of Adaptation.
