This week's episode is all heart—grief, growth, and the sacred act of letting go.I share the story of a team tradition that turned into a leadership legacy, the final moments with my beloved Finley, and a spiritual awakening that unfolded on the shores of Bali. We'll also explore the yoga philosophy of Aparigraha (non-attachment), the concept of fantasy vs. real love, and the courage it takes to surrender.

What's really keeping you stuck—fear of regret or fear of change? In this powerful episode, the emotional journey of letting go reaches its final stage. It explores the tension between attachment and freedom, and regret versus relief—those final moments of decision when you're standing at a crossroads.Attachment feels safe because it's familiar, even when it's no longer helping us grow. Freedom feels light and open but can be scary because it invites change and uncertainty. When we let go—whether of a role, a relationship, or a routine—we often fear regret. But what usually follows is a sense of relief, clarity, and renewed energy. This episode combines insights from neuroscience and yoga philosophy, especially Aparigraha (non-attachment) and Ishvarapranidhana (surrender to something greater), offering real tools to navigate the fear of change. You'll be invited to reflect on what you're clinging to, and what you might gain by letting it go—even if it's uncomfortable at first.Let this episode be the gentle push you need to move toward more space, more ease, and more self-trust.Episode Chapters:00:00:00 Introduction00:02:20 Attachment vs. Freedom00:05:29 Nervous System and Change00:08:43 Yogic Lens: Aparigraha00:10:47 Letting Go as a Life Practice00:14:24 Living in the Present00:18:53 Fear of Regret vs. Relief00:23:36 Svadhyaya & Self-Study00:25:06 Ishvarapranidhana: Trust in the Unknown00:26:26 Practice and Mantra00:28:00 Conscious Decision Making00:29:48 Closing Reflections—-------—-------—-

Why is it so hard to admit when we're wrong? Why does vulnerability feel so uncomfortable? This episode explores the deep connection between ego, pride, shame, and the fear of being seen. Michael shares insights on why people struggle to admit mistakes, how societal norms shape our behaviors, and how the nervous system reacts to feelings of embarrassment or defensiveness. From a yogic perspective, concepts like Aparigraha (non-attachment), Svadhyaya (self-study), and Ishvara Pranidhana (surrendering the ego) offer tools to help navigate these emotions. The episode also dives into neuroscience, explaining how the brain's fear response can hijack our ability to stay open and present. By understanding these mechanisms, we can learn to shift our mindset, embrace humility, and create more meaningful connections. If you've ever struggled with admitting fault, felt the need to "save face," or wanted to break free from the fear of being wrong, this episode offers valuable insights and practical tools for personal growth and self-acceptance.Episode Chapters:00:00:00 Introduction00:02:00 Why We Struggle to Admit When We're Wrong00:06:00 The Role of Ego and Pride in Defensiveness00:10:00 How Shame and Embarrassment Affect Us00:14:00 The Nervous System's Response to Vulnerability00:18:00 Why We Fear Being Seen and Making Mistakes00:22:00 The Hidden Costs of Always Being Right00:27:00 Yogic Perspectives on Letting Go of Ego00:31:00 Practical Tools for Embracing Humility and Growth00:35:00 Closing Thoughts and Reflections—-------—-------—-Michael Henri's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michaelyoga.pt/ Going Pro Yoga's Instagram: https://www.instagram/com/goingproyoga/—-------—-------—-Other Mentions:Ep# 112: The Nervous System and The Polyvagal Theory—-------—-------—Tags: ego, vulnerability, pride, shame, embarrassment, fear of being wrong, authenticity, yoga philosophy, neuroscience, nervous system, self-acceptance, self-growth, personal development, mindfulness, emotional intelligence, admitting mistakes, humility, self-reflection, letting go

The fourth step of the Eightfold Path is Wise Action, which focuses on cultivating ethical behavior and harmonious relationships. It involves following the Five Precepts: refraining from taking life (Ahimsa), stealing (Asteya), sexual misconduct (Brahmacharya), false or harmful speech (Satya), and intoxication. These precepts guide practitioners toward actions that promote compassion, mindfulness, and respect for all beings.Wise Action also encourages choosing a livelihood that doesn't contribute to suffering and emphasises selflessness and generosity (Aparigraha), fostering empathy and detachment from material attachments. In your asana practice, reflect on your motivations for action. Are your choices rooted in fear or love, criticism or curiosity? By becoming aware of your thoughts, words, and actions, you can cultivate more mindful responses, aligning your actions with your core values. Recognise that every choice has consequences...your current life is shaped by past actions. Use this awareness to make wise, virtuous choices that promote happiness and well-being for yourself and others. To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. Aparigraha is Sanskrit for non-clinging, not-coveting or desiring after outward possessions. It is the concept of non-possessiveness, non-greediness and non-attachment. The opposite is Parigraha, which means “the focus on material gain.” So Aparigraha in Sanskrit breaks downs as – A means “non or against”; pari, means “on all sides”; and graha, means “to take,” “to grab” or “to seize.” It is a restraint, not just to refrain from taking things, but from coveting things too. This non-attachment is to material possessions as well as other less tangible things like energy, respect, attention or love. We see how trying to control, possess and hold onto people, places and things increases discontentment, pain and suffering and can hurt people as well as ourselves. The trouble of getting things and keeping them, involves endless drama of holding on to them and preventing those things from changing. The bottom line is EVERYTHING is subject to change. This unfolds into us suffering, Dukkha and when that happens our Kleshas start to get triggered and motivates actions. So letting go of the hankering, yearning, jealousy, and greediness of possessing people, places and things is all a part of learning the art of surrendering, letting go and letting be.To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. Drawing upon personal narratives and enlightening tales, reflect on how our attachment to things can extend beyond merely material goods. The journey unfolds the concept of minimal living, the freedom embedded within, and how one can truly be their authentic selves. At its heart, this episode carries a profound message of embracing the unexpected and pursuing new opportunities, effectively embodying the Swami quote, "Love is what's left when you let go of all the things you love". In conclusion, learn that letting go doesn't equate to loss. Maetreyii Ma is an award-winning author, psychologist, and spiritual teacher who has developed a worldwide following, bringing forth the deep wisdom that manifests to her both through her inner guru, Baba and in her teacher, the renowned Indian mystic Shrii Shrii Anandamurti Baba. But here's where this gets really interesting. The Baba that has loved and guided her throughout her long life is the all-knowing spiritual consciousness that embodies divine love and speaks to and, in recent years, through her. And while she met and lived in the ashram of the living guru, Shrii Shrii Anandamurti Baba, in India for eight months before he passed from this earth, the immortal spiritual consciousness he embodied has been side-by-side with her since her college years—long before she met him and after! Her story, beautifully told in her new book Into the Heart of the Infinite: A Spiritual Memoir of an Extraordinary Mystical Journey, is a story of profound transformation that reveals how she came to experience the spiritual ecstasy and beauty that Her guide, Baba, brought to her while integrating it into her “real world” life of wife, mother, psychologist and spiritual teacher—to live a life in awakened, joyful consciousness. With roles as the past founder and president of Ananda Seva Mission, a founding board member of the Kundalini Research Network, and a previous director of the Spiritual Emergency Network, she has long been a guiding light in the spiritual community. Today we are reminded of the importance and power of giving thanks. In this re-release episode of Mindful Conversations with KAY, Kristi and Kelly dive into the profound impact and significance of expressing gratitude. They shed light on the gratitude practices implemented in their households and classrooms, aimed at helping children acknowledge and appreciate the abundance of blessings that surround them on a daily basis As yoga teachers, classroom teachers, and moms, Kelly and Kristi feel a strong sense of responsibility toward raising children who are grateful. (Don't we all?) They embrace the concept of Aparigraha, a Sanskrit term that signifies "greedlessness" and "gratitude," a fundamental principle in yoga. However, expressing gratitude goes beyond mere words like "Thank you." The true aim is to foster and ignite sincere appreciation towards the individuals and circumstances that enable us to embrace our identity and cherish our blessings. Today we are looking at the fifth and final yama of Aparigraha which is probably one of the most profound of the Yamas. It translates as non-greed, non- attachment or non-possessiveness. The literal translation is interesting – the “a” means non, the “pari” means “on all sides” and “graha” means to grab or take. So quite literally Aparigraha means "non–all sides–grab"!The idea of not being possessive or taking more than we need may sound similar to the Yama of Asteya which is non-stealing. So we need to understand the subtle nuances of this particular Yama. The focus here is to let go of our attachments – attachments to possessions, ideas, to outcomes. It encourages us to not only notice when we are taking or using more than we need but to let go of the attachment of that desire, to live in the moment. So rather than it being about the physical attachment to our possessions it is about the mental exercise of letting go.If you would like to get in touch with me you can do so at my website chakra-way.comMuch loveRosanne xx Hosted on Acast. If you did not already see -I posted the next two coffee chats. The last two of the summer. The first one will be Aug 9th back at Kismet Coffee and then after that, it will be a Henleys Aug 21st. Henleys is graciously offering the space for me to come in a host the coffee chat- so it won't be dependent on the weather which Kismet is. For the next coffee chat, I recommend my last episode and interview with Jacqui Deflorio. I have also created a journal guide with key takeaways from the episode to help get you thinking about the episode so when you come to share you are all set!  Hope to see you there.  Meditation ( discern the inner voice ) know your own instincts and intuition. Which ultimately allows you to know what you like, and what your passions are and therefore guide you towards your purpose.  I recently heard an interview with Light Watkins @lightwatkins. Light Watkins is an expert meditation and spiritual teacher who speaks of “following your curiosity” that whisper that may direct you in a way that is true to yourself. Internal nudges/hunches- we struggle to hear them because as we get older curiosity feels extracurricular to what's important, job, marriage, kids, etc. But that just may be the voice that guides us towards our passions and or purpose.  The other voices are there too, and the only one that gets the loudest is the one you listen to the most and act on the most.  How do we get to listen to the Inner Voice, we create opportunities for stillness. And we listen and we take the small hops and see how it goes as Light suggests. I also loved what Jacqui said about seeing your own path in front of you. If you can see the path it's not yours. Yours in the path right under your feet.  So when you think of taking the next step -Instead of a leap of faith it's a hop of faith. Deborah Adele also compares this to trapeze artists when she explains the Yama of Aparigraha * non-possessiveness Like a trapeze artist you must let go of the first bar to be completely suspended in the air to then catch the hands of the next. You can't hold on to what you think you know. We want so desperately to know what the right steps are and how they will lead us to the happiness or fulfillment we seek but the reality is we can't know. We see this now. Especially with young adults. You said if I got good grades, went to a good school, got a great job- 2.5 kids and a dog I'd be happy. Why aren't I?!! Also explains why The Yale happiness class, formally known as Psyc 157: Psychology and the Good Life, is one of the most popular classes to be offered in the university's 320-year history. But if we listen and take a chance on curiosity, not focusing on the outcome not overanalyzing the situation simply letting it be, we don't know where it may take us. We can't be future goal-setters with yesterday's expectations. So the week we take this small practice into our days as suggested by Deborah Adele  Practice with the breath. Practice the art of letting go with the breath. Be aware of the inhales and exhales. Breathing in life without the need to hold on to it. Journal how you feel after this practice, and maybe then— try something you are curious about.  Until next time be well.

One of the five yamas (restraints) - which are practices recommended for practitioners of yoga - Aparigraha is the practice of non-grasping. This could be said in many ways... simplicity, not taking too much, not hoarding wealth or even the Buddhist AND Franciscan practices of non-possession.  The phyiscal practice focuses mainly on twisting. In particular, opening the outer hip/it band area in order to access certain types of twists. The focal asana here is eka pada koundinyasana (the twisty one) but you can always skip whatever you need to to make the practice right for you. Hello Friends! The audio on this one might not be up to my usual standard. I believe I've fixed the audio issue I was having through the kind support of people at Descript, but the sound might be a little more variable than it usually is. I'm blaming Mercury Retrograde!  This episode speaks about a process I have done annually since about 2016 after reading the book by Marie Kondo called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.  Particularly in Western culture and in our capitalist society, we are taught the skill of hanging on and accumulating. But when we do this in excess it's actually not healthy for us. Clutter in particular can build up and become unhealthy or even dangerous to us. Physical clutter and mind clutter need to be processed and let go on a regular basis.  Sometimes letting go of physical objects is a way of helping train ourselves "let go" as a skill. This can include thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve you, and items which once had a purpose but are not just taking up space.  I did not talk about Liminality as a concept here...and I think I may have covered in a prior episode. Or I may have to cover that in a future episode, because it's a helpful concept to understand when you're in a period of what feels like intense change.  ***  Resources Mentioned In This Episode  The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo It's Not Your Money - How to Live Fully from Divine Abundance *** To receive the FREE Audio version of the Unleash, Unlearn, and Enliven book when it is published, please enter your name and email at this form.  If you are interested in the Women Celebrating Wins group, please fill this form out so we can verify your identify and contact you with more information.  Support for this podcast comes from readers of Unleash, Unlearn, and Enliven, from clients, and from listeners like you. In this episode, we chat about the 8 limbs of Yoga by Patanjali as defined in his yoga sutras. Yoga is not all about the tree pose or downward-facing dog, it's about life.In relation to this, listen to Episode 256: The 5 levels of the mind – The Yoga Philosophy Series and also Episode 255: How to surrender, let go and trust or Ishvara Pranidhana – The Yoga Philosophy Series. This is what we spoke aboutYamas are kind of like moral lines and how you show up in life. Ahimsa is non-violence or kindness. Satya is truthfulness and honesty. Asteya is non-stealing. Brahmacharya is celibacy and loyalty. Aparigraha is detachment.Niyama is more of a way you are inside. Shaucha is more like cleanliness or detoxification of our thoughts. Santosha is contentment and self-acceptance. Tapas is devotion, dedication and discipline. Svadhyaya is self-study and self-awareness. Ishvarapranidhana is the practice of surrendering and letting go.Asana is the postures and the poses. Traditionally, there was one Asana and that was sitting cross-legged to meditate and breathe. Then, the ancient yogis continued to create poses in order to sit for longer periods of time with less discomfort.Pranayama can be translated to 'life force control'. Some people call it breathwork. Pratyahara is sense withdrawal as in closing your eyes or blocking your ears.Dharana is focusing or maintaining the thoughts and it's like the beginning of meditation.Dhyana is when you're truly meditating and nothing can interrupt you.Samadhi is when we're in Savasana lying on the ground in full surrender. Bliss land. Maybe even enlightened! If you have more questions about this or if something resonated with you, we would love to hear from you. In this episode of Mindful Conversations with KAY, Kristi and Kelly share the gratitude practices they use in their homes and classrooms to help children recognize all they have to be grateful for daily. As yoga teachers, classroom teachers, and moms, Kelly and Kristi feel particularly responsible for raising grateful children. Aparigraha is a Sanskrit term meaning “greedless-ness” or “gratitude”, and it is one of the basic teachings of yoga. This does not just mean simply saying “Thank you,” (although manners are very important). The real goal is to encourage and inspire genuine gratitude to the people and situations that allow us to be who we are and enjoy what we have. The conversation includes: *What is gratitude, really? *How gratitude practices are actually stress-management tools *The role of the Reticular Activating System in attention and focus *Modeling gratitude *Examples of weaving simple gratitude practices into your daily routine *Avoiding the pitfall of toxic positivity Links: https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/blog/kids-yoga-gratitude-thanks-aparigraha/ https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/blog/kids-yoga-ayurveda-gratitude-thanks/ https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/blog/kids-yoga-gratitude-thanks-aparigraha/ https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/blog/practice-daily-gratitude-with-the-family/ https://kiddingaroundyoga.com/blog/kids-yoga-smile-joy-gratitude/ Merch: https://store.kiddingaroundyoga.com/collections/music/products/orange-you-grateful
