In this episode of the Join Us in France Travel Podcast, Annie Sargent and Elyse Rivin guide you through the picturesque landscapes of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and the ancient ruins of Glanum. Located in the heart of Provence, Saint-Rémy is not just another charming town; it's a place deeply rooted in history and culture. Known as the birthplace of Nostradamus and the residence of Vincent van Gogh during one of his most creative phases, the town offers an irresistible blend of cultural richness and Provencal charm. Just a short distance away is Glanum, a fascinating archaeological site that transports you back to the Greco-Roman era. Rediscovered in 1920, the well-preserved ruins provide a captivating glimpse into ancient civilizations and include architectural marvels like a triumphal arch and a cenotaph. One of the key questions we tackle in this episode is whether you should base your travels out of Saint-Rémy. The town's strategic location, near cities like Arles, Avignon, and Cavaillon, makes it an ideal hub for experiencing the magic of a small Provençal town. Plus, it is part of the National Regional Park of the Alpilles, boasting excellent infrastructure that includes a variety of comfortable hotels and delightful restaurants. Another highlight of the episode is a PSA from Annie about the potential pitfalls of buying nougat from street vendors. A seemingly trivial subject that can make a significant difference in your travel experience, so you'll want to hear what she has to say. We also delve into practical matters like renting an electric or hybrid car for your next trip to France. Starting 48 minutes into the episode, we discuss the ins and outs of ChargeMap Pass—a convenient solution for electric vehicle charging across France. All the necessary details are covered, from purchasing the RFID card for 19.90€ to the actual charging costs. Whether you're captivated by history, nature, or simply keen on experiencing the Provençal lifestyle, Saint-Rémy and Glanum offer a range of activities and festivals to indulge in. So buckle up for an enlightening journey to these must-visit spots on your French itinerary. We're glad to welcome Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel, who's @therealBeede on Twitter, and welcome back Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle who's @Joseph_Duarte on Twitter. They're here for a special Big 12 expansion edition with Trib sportswriters Brice Cherry and John Werner: So, the word is that UCF, Houston and Cincinnati are slated to join the league “no later than 2024-25.” But what are the odds that those three are able to wiggle out of the American Athletic Conference prior to that? With the addition of BYU, this conference will now have teams spread across three time zones. Do you envision some geographical challenges to the new Big 12? Or does that matter in today's college sports landscape? There are some obvious reasons why BYU, Cincy, UCF and Houston would want to join the Big 12 – money, exposure, recruiting. For the schools that you cover, UCF and Houston, what's the biggest appeal, in your view? Got a good laugh out of a recent tweet touting “Big 12 legend Oscar Robertson,” referring of course to the Hall of Fame basketball great at Cincinnati. In all seriousness, all of these programs have a rich athletic history that predates their arrival in the Big 12. If you were creating a Mount Rushmore for UH (Joseph), UCF (Jason) and Baylor (John), who would be the four people you'd put up there? There's an old saying: If you're five minutes early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late and if you're late, you're fired.Being late causes stress for you and everyone else. After being late most of my life, now I'm almost always early. I add a little extra time to drive anywhere so I don't risk getting a speeding ticket or fueling anyone's road rage. Arrive early and you've scheduled in room to breathe.Instead of being predictably late, arrive early and be the one everyone can count on.

Welcome to this new game show type episode called “He Said/She Said”! In this type of episode, on the Empowered Couples podcast, you will laugh, be entertained, and relate to this couple as they find out how they see things differently in their marriage even when they love each other, live together, and have been together for years. No matter how well you think you know your partner, you can see things differently AND often don’t even realize! (remember the newlywed game, yup it’s going to be like that!) In this “Game Show” episode you will learn from the answers this couple gives on the area of ‘Time Management’. You will know that some places where your partner experiences anxiety are from not wanting to disappoint you. And that though you have different behaviors (like around time management) you can still have the same experiences. You will have ways to change your perception of time for yourself and your partner. You will feel inspired by your differences and that time is limitless. Individual Game Show Questions Asked: Who would you say cares more about being on time? As soon as you feel you might be late, how do you feel? What do you think is the most appropriate or best time to arrive at a place which has a scheduled start time? Who is more organized and the better planner? What’s a personality trait they have different than you, that you’re most attracted to? What personality trait of theirs makes you the most frustrated? He is a naturopathic doctor, she is an influential yoga teacher, and together they are certified breath-work coaches who help people by the hundreds reduce stress, feel more calm, confident, and clear. They have elected to explore the area of “Mindset” as it pertains to ‘Time Management’ as this is an area of their relationship that can still cause upsets, disagreements, and disconnection. They are willing to individually be asked the same questions around time management to then be surprised by how each answered these questions whether it be the same or surprisingly different.

The Kentucky Derby prides itself on being the longest-running sporting event in the United States. But amid the mint juleps, the extravagant hats and sartorial finery, there is a history behind the Run for the Roses that’s hidden from the limelight.Much in the way that the history of slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction can get spun into an alternative narrative of genteel white Southern virtues, an important African American contribution to a key sports and cultural institution has been whitewashed. For the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby, "Arrive Early, Leave Late" takes a different turn, as Beto Durán (@DuranSports) sits down with national correspondent Kurtis Lee (@kurtisalee) to talk about his Column One piece on the little known story of the African American jockeys who rode to victory in the early days of Churchill Downs.
For this special episode, host Beto Duran takes you to Staples Center on the final night of the Lakers regular season. What was due to be a season recap with our writers, former Lakers players, and various broadcasters took a dramatic turn when Magic Johnson, Lakers legend and President of Basketball Operations, resigned. This sent shockwaves throughout the Lakers universe and world of basketball, and the Arrive Early, Leave Late crew was there as it happened. We started with interviews with Bill Plaschke and Dan Woike. We joined a Luke Walton press conference, spoke to broadcaster Bill McDonald, and then Magic Johnson made his resignation announcement. After that announcement, we spoke with former Lakers Mychal Thompson and AC Green, broadcasters John Ireland, LA sports icon Jim Hill, and are later joined by Arash Markazi, Brad "BT" Turner, and former Laker Robert Horry. Join us on this podcast and go behind the scenes for a monumental night to be remembered in Lakers lore for a very long time.
Host Beto Duran welcomes Jorge Castillo (Dodgers Beat Reporter), Maria Torres (Angels Beat Reporter), and Andy McCullough (National Baseball Writer) to kickoff the Major League Baseball season, which starts Thursday. Recovering from Spring Training and ready to launch into the regular season, all 3 writers share their thoughts on the upcoming year. Dodger fans expectations are already set, what does the team need to do to get over the hump and win the World Series? The Angels have made Mike Trout the highest paid athlete ever in professional sports, how does that change their team dynamic? Who are the players and what are the strategies being adapted all around the league as baseball and technology team up to ride into the future together? It's an extended edition of Arrive Early, Leave Late, so make sure you get in your 7th inning stretch!
Host Beto Duran welcomes legendary LA Times sports journalist Bill Plaschke to today's podcast to discuss all things LA sports. Covering USC, the Lakers, the Dodgers, the Angels, March Madness, and the Clippers in one episode, Plaschke reviews the current state of affairs in LA. Who should stay, who should go, what can we look forward to, and who needs to step up? Never one to bite his tongue, Bill Plaschke shares his thoughts on all these teams and topics. It's an all-Bill Plaschke episode of Arrive Early, Leave Late!
Host Beto Duran checks in with new Sports & Culture columnist LZ Granderson, as LZ makes his Arrive Early, Leave Late debut. Promising to use the platform to take subscribers beyond the box score, LZ dives right in to discuss the halftime show, his role at the LA Times, and what impact the Big Game will have on the Rams and Los Angeles. Then Tania Ganguli, Lakers beat writer, updates Beto with the discussion around Anthony Davis' announcement. Tania provides the dynamics at play as the February 7th NBA trade deadline approaches. Are the Lakers in the driver's seat for AD right now? Tania fills us in on that story, the injuries to the Lakers, and gives us a glimpse into how all of this impacts coach Luke Walton.
Episode 2 of Arrive Early, Leave Late, hosted by Beto Duran. Interviews with LA Times Sports' Angel Rodriguez (Sports Editor), Andy McCullough (Dodgers), Brad 'BT' Turner (Lakers), and Sam Farmer (NFL in LA). A must-listen for any serious or casual LA sports fan.
