Dan from Pod of Greed joins us to talk about two more helpings of good ol' G1 insanity. The Decepticons take over New York by building a city underneath it, and dismember Optimus in some highly confusing ways in order to help their dastardly plan along. Then, using extremely vague technology, Megatron turns a bunch of Autobots into huge jerks, and only the usage of different extremely vague technology can save them. Contained within this datatrack are discussions of the following; Reagan-era TV laws, sewer gators, skyscrapers with STDs, robogore, surgically applied lightsabers, questions about what Bluestreak's deal even is, and ill advised sound system technology. Chicken or beef?! This week we cover a comedy with many similarities to Tony's last flick. Could Peter Greene ever play a good guy? How many ties to "Bad Boys" does this film have? Could you remember an address for that long? Check this episode out now and join us for lots of laughs!
Captain America #318 (1986)It's true — we have now entered Captain America's Guy Fieri phase as he travels the USA, not for “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” but more “Diners, Drive-Ins and CRIMES!” He's putzing around in a windowless van like he's in BLACK PHONE or something, showing off his Wakandan road technology. He runs into Blue Streak, the roller-skate based villain that goes it alone and changes outfits quicker than David Spade in that airplane bathroom in TOMMY BOY. Unfortunately for Blue Streak, it is 1986 and he's in a Captain America comic so he's soon to depart this mortal coil. Just ask Death Adder. Your co-worker ditches you to go see the first WrestleMania and next thing you know, some starstruck cabbie is waving a weapon in our face. Also (man there's too much here), Cap checks in with Jim Shooter and the Rockettes go on a massive group date with Hercules and Namor!*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:13:10 ***All this plus some convo on AGATHA ALL ALONG, THE PENGUIN and Jen buys a statue!Promo: WEIRD WARRIORS (weirdwarriorspodcast.podbean.com)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. Like a Dragon hadden we torenhoge verwachtingen. Our exit today has us taking a look at two action comedies that tried to excite and entertain audiences in 1999. First, there is Chill Factor, starring recent Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. and Skeet Ulrich. Second, there is Blue Streak, starring Martin Lawrence. Both films try to walk that fine line between providing us great action set pieces and quippy one liners. Chill Factor puts its action stylings ahead of its comedic aspirations while Blue Streak leans much heavier into the comedy realm thanks in large part to its star. Along the way, Tripp and Ross touch on the use of some unfunny actors in these films, a wacky Roger Ebert contest, the timeliness of the films, and Tripp manages to recommend a random French film Ross has never heard of! It's Debate Central on the Mission as Vincent and Len congratulate a couple of 2023 Emmy winners while lamenting the fate of Better Call Saul, leading to Debate #1 about the ‘comedy' of The Bear. That's followed by a reckoning of Martin Lawrence's relevance, which begets Debate #2 about who Black America loves more: Martin or Eddie Murphy. Then, an animated Six Degrees takes us into their review of 1999's Blue Streak, which sparks Debate #3 on what is or isn't an action movie. How long can a newly married woman be called a bride? Does bride apply only as long as her wedding day, or does it extend right on through the couple's silver anniversary and beyond? Plus, insightful advice about writing from a Pulitzer winner: Observe carefully, find what you're uniquely qualified to say, and give voice to your own astonishment. And names of minor-league baseball teams are often a playful combination of nearby industries and a formidable animal. For example, where do the locals root for the Iron Pigs? Also, frunk and froot, left in the lurch, a riddle from Leonardo da Vinci, an onomastic puzzle, Pepper Alley, grocery store vs. food store, and get the goody out.
