Episode 97 features a conversation with TV host Jason Zone Fisher. A  passionate traveler who turned his love for sports, curiosity for adventure, and why not mentally into a thriving on-camera career.   After winning a dream opportunity with Gillette traveling to major sporting events and experiences with his best friend, Jason knew anything was possible.  Jason shared one of his most meaningful travel moments happened while on the road, with another major brand, Butterfinger .  He had two days off in Kansas City. Daniella Ponticelli, is a pre-and post-game radio host and sideline reporter for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders games on 620 CKRM. With that, she is the first woman to work on the official Riders radio broadcasts. Additionally, she works contractually for the CFL club to produce written and video content. In Fall 2022, Daniella became the first female play-by-play announcer for USPORTS football, as the full-season radio voice of the University of Regina Rams. She first broke barriers a year earlier, becoming a full-time play-by-play announcer for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's hockey program. The radio broadcasts themselves made history, being the first time a private broadcaster (Pattison Media) committed to a full season of women's hockey in Canada. The team went on to win bronze at national in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Following up on that success, Daniella provided play-by-play and rinkside reporting for several games during the 2021-22 SJHL season, including work in the Finals series. A month later, she co-hosted the 2022 SJHL draft, a three-hour livestreamed event, working closely with teams and the league commissioner. ​ Aside from hockey and football, Daniella also hosted a full season of Rattlers Rundown, a 12-episode weekly television show produced by AccessNow Sports during spring and summer 2022. The one-hour show featured interviews with coaches, players and fellow broadcasters, along with analysis of the Saskatchewan Rattlers and the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Pre-pandemic, Daniella worked as a contract on-floor reporter for Saskatchewan Rush Lacrosse games in Saskatoon, broadcast on B/R Live, until COVID-19 halted the season in March 2020. ONE Championship Century Paywalled Typhoon Hagibis and a Shiny New ONE Grand Prix Belt First things first, ONE Century isn’t just a stacked card, it’s two stacked cards back to back! That is just nuts! There are so many belts on the line! If you are not planning to watch these events just punch yourself in the face! Man! This is gonna be crazy. But from an MMA business perspective, the big news about this event is that ONE Will be moving the second card behind a paywall in the US for the first time. Of course, they have their broadcast deal with Turner so the first card will air on TNT. So if you have cable you should be able to watch that. The more interesting part of this is that the second part of ONE Century will move behind the B/R Live paywall, which requires a $9.99 monthly subscription to view. If you don’t have cable or want to shell out the $9.99 you might want to google what a VPN is and give that a shot. I’m going to link to a report on The Body Lock if you guys want to take a deeper dive into this it’s a great piece of work for you to check out. Personally, I think it’s a good time and the right market for ONE to give this a try. The US market is used to paying for premium MMA content, which this very much is. Though I think it is going to be a hard sell given the timing of the show in the states. Despite ONEs consistently claims of billions of potential viewers for each show and the self hype of their unprecedented social media views they are still a fairly unknown commodity to all but the most hardcore of the US fans. So it will be interesting to see if they are actually able to move the needle being behind a paywall. We can really only speculate about the motivation for the move behind the paywall, but it’s not much of a stretch of the imagination to think that ONE is likely needing to generate some real revenue at some point. There have been more than a few sites that have jumped into the finances of the MMA promotion over the past few years showing that they are hemorrhaging cash every chance they get. While the markets in SE Asia where ONE is the most established would not really support a PPV model, hell, even the UFC is on free TV here in Thailand, the US and Europe is another story. If ONE Can create the expectation in those markets that consumers will have to pay for their live events then it could give them a path at least part of the way to profitability. There live shows are on another level when compared to the UFC and I think that comes across well when watching it on TV. However, their approach to production, storytelling and to hyping up their own views on how great they are might turn off some casual western viewers. If they do well in the market and drive subscriptions to B/R Live then we know the other big promotions like the UFC and Bellator have to keep an eye on ONE. If they don’t, does it stall their advance to the US? Does it make their investors take a second look and question their bet on ONE? We will have to wait and see. Before I wrap up this episode I just want to touch on that new ONE Grand Prix belt. This belt

This was a loaded weekend in the wrestling business. For the first time ever, big dog WWE programmed against upstart AEW with Evolve, the Gabe Sapolsky led promotion that has a partership with WWE, putting several NXT talents on their 10th Anniversary show, which aired on the WWE Network at the same time AEW's Fight For The Fallen, a benefit show for the families of the victims of a mass shooting in Jacksonville earlier in the year was on B/R Live and FITE, depending on your location. It wouldn't be a week in the wrestling business without Jim Cornette being involved in one way or another. From avoiding a possible disaster in Knoxville to more dumping on Joey Janella, to retweeting second-hand a tweet by a guy who was stupid enough to not only rip on Jim, but also POSTED HIS NUMBER ON TWITTER asking Janella to text him. Well wait until you hear what one of our hosts did, you'll bust a gut, we guarantee it! Sunday, of course, was Extreme Rules, a show that signaled the end of Vince McMahon being completely in charge. There were a lot of title changes on that show, including, of course, the one that caused the most negative reaction. First things first, In big news that isn’t MMA related but is MMA related is that Muay Thai, the art of eight limbs has been granted provisional recognition as an Olympic sport. For me, this is both potentially good and bad. In Asian MMA Muay Thai is a very common base discipline for a lot of fighters, especially here in Thailand, so it’s exciting to see another avenue for fighters to develop through. That being said, anyone who has ever seen a single muay Thai match, knows it’s beautifully violent in a way that the Olympics isn’t. That bring up a lot of fear that the OIC might look to turn Muay Thai into something similar to TKD where fighters come out heavily padded and it becomes more of a points game instead of brutal leg kicks and flesh-slicing elbows. I personally like my Muay Thai primal and devastating, not Olympic TV friendly. Now since the last show ONE had two significant signings, or at least high profile. One being Sexyama and the other being Sage Northcutt. Akiyama makes a lot of sense for ONE, he is half Japanese half Korean, two markets that ONE would like to dominate and he has a fairly good record at 14 and 6 but has not fought since November of 2015. So by the time he steps in the ONE cage, we could be looking at 4 years away from the sport. He’s still a marketable guy and I think he will do well with ONE from more than a just fighting perspective. Sage Northcutt on the other hand. He has a good record at this point in his career at 11 and 2 with 8 fights in the UFC but He really doesn’t fit the whole “Asian superheroes” model that we here Chatri Sityodtong talking about. He is pretty much as white bread as they come, so I found that a bit odd. DJ and Eddie Alverez, I can actually see, but with Sage, I have a harder time getting behind the idea of him adding value to ONE. That being said, he has a look that will really stand out in Asia, and he has become well known in the states so that could be part of the big picture for ONE, we will have to wait and see how that goes. And to that point, ONE has inked a 3 year deal with TNT broadcasting in the states that will see ONE championship break into the US airwaves. Apparently, the deal will include 24 live events on Turner Sports digital platform B/R Live and TNT will air taped events as well as a possible reality show. The first live event will be ONEs January 19th event from Jakarta, Eternal Glory, where the strawweight strap will be on the line as Joshua Pacio defends against Hayato Suzuki. Happy holidays from Decomposed Radio! Here in Sheffield we're still reeling from the outrageous "Works Party" a few weeks ago. This was the 11th Instalment of this amazing night/ weekend, and I think it's fair to say it was one of, if not THE best yet! By the time we finished at the main venue at 6am, the dance floor was still completely packed, with tons of people still going crackers, so at that point it was time to re-group, and re-locate to another venue, and one of the best after parties we've ever witnessed! One of the DJ's tasked with playing a set here was Decomposed Radio favourite from show number 009, C.B.R. His mix on the show from October 2016 is still one of the most popular around, and as such it was an absolute pleasure to watch and hear him get fully into his set and dispatch some serious techno, including some incredible classic records that still sound as fresh today as they ever have. I'm happy to say we also recorded the other sets at the after party, so expect to hear them on the show in the future!
