This week, world leaders are gathered in Glasgow, Scotland, for COP26, a meeting of nations that has been billed by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the world's last chance to avert catastrophic climate change. At this point, the science behind climate change could not be clearer. In August, the IPCC released its most comprehensive report to date on the state of the global climate, and concluded it is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land.  Japan is an important part of this in two ways. First, it is a significant emitter of CO2, the fifth largest globally by total annual emissions. And second, it is a country that is exceptionally vulnerable to climate change. The climate crisis is here and it is affecting everything from the strength of typhoons and flooding, to the timing of the annual cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.  Read more:  The true cost of the climate crisis on Japan (Eric Margolis, The Japan Times) A crucial U.N. climate summit kicks off Oct. 31. If you haven't noticed, there are protests and uprisings going on in a number of countries throughout the world right now, but not here in America, because we're fat lazy & comfortable. I touch on the Catalan Independence protest happening right now in Barcelona Spain, where protestors are being brutalized by the Police as usual. Then it's on to Typhoon Hagibis in Japan, which has left at least 66 people dead and at least 30K in some type of camp. Notice the pattern yet?? Lastly, 10 NYPD officers have killed themselves since June, there's something bigger going on here. Should these people really be patrolling the streets if they're mentally unstable. Mercedes win their sixth Constructor's title in a row Leclerc with multiple penalties but should it have been more? Gasly with a solid drive, but he's out of contention for the Red Bull Racing drive Ricciardo and Hulkenberg both bring home points, but could Renault be facing disqualification? As for the match itself, it was another scintillating performance from the hosts who topped their pool with a 100% record and now go on the play old rivals South Africa in the quarter finals. The defeat means Scotland are on their way back home early having failed to make it out of the Pool stage and pressure is mounting on head coach Gregor Townsend. Former Scotland international Craig Chalmers says it's not time to panic just yet, and he's backing Townsend to turn things around in the new year during the Six Nations.Ireland qualified at Scotlands expense, despite spending more than half the game with 14 men they eased past Samoa and now have the prospect of facing tournament favourites New Zealand in the quarter finals. Mike McCarthy played against the All Blacks during his time as a player for Ireland and he joins the show to make a case for his former side.Wales finished their Pool phase in unconvincing fashion with a win over Uruguay. They now take on France in the quarter finals and former Ospreys coach Sean Holley believes they have got themselves a favourable draw as they target 240 minuets to win the tournament. As for England, they had the benefit of a week off thanks to Typhoon Hagibis, next up for them is a clash with Australia which both Brian and Maggie believe will cause fireworks due to the short tempered nature of both coaches, Eddie Jones and Micheal Cheika. And as the three year funding deal for the Tyrell's Premier 5's begins its final year Maggie explains how the Women's game is only going to continue to get bigger and bigger.

ONE Championship Century Paywalled Typhoon Hagibis and a Shiny New ONE Grand Prix Belt First things first, ONE Century isn’t just a stacked card, it’s two stacked cards back to back! That is just nuts! There are so many belts on the line! If you are not planning to watch these events just punch yourself in the face! Man! This is gonna be crazy. But from an MMA business perspective, the big news about this event is that ONE Will be moving the second card behind a paywall in the US for the first time. Of course, they have their broadcast deal with Turner so the first card will air on TNT. So if you have cable you should be able to watch that. The more interesting part of this is that the second part of ONE Century will move behind the B/R Live paywall, which requires a $9.99 monthly subscription to view. If you don’t have cable or want to shell out the $9.99 you might want to google what a VPN is and give that a shot. I’m going to link to a report on The Body Lock if you guys want to take a deeper dive into this it’s a great piece of work for you to check out. Personally, I think it’s a good time and the right market for ONE to give this a try. The US market is used to paying for premium MMA content, which this very much is. Though I think it is going to be a hard sell given the timing of the show in the states. Despite ONEs consistently claims of billions of potential viewers for each show and the self hype of their unprecedented social media views they are still a fairly unknown commodity to all but the most hardcore of the US fans. So it will be interesting to see if they are actually able to move the needle being behind a paywall. We can really only speculate about the motivation for the move behind the paywall, but it’s not much of a stretch of the imagination to think that ONE is likely needing to generate some real revenue at some point. There have been more than a few sites that have jumped into the finances of the MMA promotion over the past few years showing that they are hemorrhaging cash every chance they get. While the markets in SE Asia where ONE is the most established would not really support a PPV model, hell, even the UFC is on free TV here in Thailand, the US and Europe is another story. If ONE Can create the expectation in those markets that consumers will have to pay for their live events then it could give them a path at least part of the way to profitability. There live shows are on another level when compared to the UFC and I think that comes across well when watching it on TV. However, their approach to production, storytelling and to hyping up their own views on how great they are might turn off some casual western viewers. If they do well in the market and drive subscriptions to B/R Live then we know the other big promotions like the UFC and Bellator have to keep an eye on ONE. If they don’t, does it stall their advance to the US? Does it make their investors take a second look and question their bet on ONE? We will have to wait and see. Before I wrap up this episode I just want to touch on that new ONE Grand Prix belt. This belt

Yes, a weekend of mixed fortunes on the sporting front:  United lose again, to Newcastle! Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faced fresh calls to bring the curtain down on his Old Trafford tenure during Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle. The Red Devils traveled to the north east desperate to get back to winning ways having failed to secure victory in 90 minutes since September 19. But, as much as they huffed and puffed at St James' Park, they failed to make a breakthrough and get themselves on the scoresheet. United's woes were compounded in the second half when Newcastle debutant Matty Longstaff finished off a flowing move to put Newcastle 1-0 up. The goal, which proved to be the winner, opened the door for a wave of criticism to be directed towards Solskjaer, with fans venting their fury towards the Norwegian on social media. "Solskjaer is clearly out of his depth at this level, but not a single pundit or former teammate will say it though," said one fan on Twitter. "It’ll all be the players and boards fault.” Semi-final time in GAA Club football and I take in Armagh and Derry semi-finals.  In Armagh a double header semi-final spectactular ended up as a rather damp affair particularly in the 2nd game as the first between Ballymacnab &  Granemore proved enthralling despite atrocious conditions with an injury time equaliser from Granemore ensuring the 'Nab had to work really hard in extra time to ensure a repeat of the 2018 final against Crossmaglen who eased past Maghery in conditions that were more akin to a swimming gala than anything that could have been conducive to good football. Final scores for both games: Ballymacnab Round Towers 0-16 v 0-13 Granemore AET Crossmaglen Rangers 2-9 (15) v 0-8 Maghery Sean MacDiarmada In Derry, I travelled to Owenbeg, Dungiven on Sunday where I was delighted to witness Glen, Maghera deservedly deny Slaughtneil a return to the Derry Senior club decider in a game of goals and goal chances, holding on for a famous victory, that saw the Watty Graham's appear in their 1st Senior football final, in a finish that was more nerve-wracking than it needed to be.Glen would have been happy to win an awful game – they were delighted to edge this enthralling encounter by a score of Watty Graham's, Glen 3-7 (16) Robert Emmet's, Slaughtneil 1-11 (14). They will now face another local neighbour as Magherafelt O'Donovan Rossa who have qualified for their first senior county final in 36 years by beating Banagher on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-9 in the other semi which was played on Saturday in equally atrociuos conditions the the Armagh double header. The 19th typhoon of the season which has been named Typhoon Hagibis has formed just south of Japan and forecasters say it is rapidly making its way towards the mainland, could quite literally blow Ireland's QFinal qualification away. Ireland are due to play Samoa on Saturday in Fukuoka, which is in southern Japan. World Rugby have already confirmed that if any World Cup games are cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, the result will go down as a 0-0 draw. If the worst case scenario was to unfold, it could leave Ireland on the brink of elimination, if Scotland were to win their remaining two games against Russia on Wednesday and Japan on Sunday.
