Ben Berman Ghan is the author of the bestselling novel, The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits (Wolsak & Wynn, 2024). The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits is a gorgeously complex work of literary speculative fiction. With elements of science fiction and horror dropped in amongst stunning literary prose, the debut novel spans centuries, covering humanity's colonization of the moon, a war with alien beings, AI minds governing Canada, and a giant spacefaring whale. The book is centred around Toronto and shows a version of a Canadian future that will amaze and stun readers, while raising important questions about the ethics and power of AI, humanity's claim to space, and the systematic destruction of our current planet. More About The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits: A gorgeously complex work of literary speculative fiction that spans centuries The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits starts in 2014 with a winged alien sowing the seeds of a strange forest on the moon. The novel then moves through humanity's colonization of the moon and its consequences, onto a war with alien beings within a spacefaring whale, a cyborg mind that sleeps for hundreds of years after sheltering the city of Toronto from the worst of the war and finally a recreation of humanity. Ghan poses thoughtful questions about artificial intelligence, humanity's quest for the stars and ecological destruction in this wide-ranging story, which is held together equally by beautiful writing and deft characterization. The end result is an ambitious debut that leaves the reader contemplating many amazing possibilities for the future of our world. This imaginative approach forms the foundation of their brand universe, where each flavor represents a different cow with its unique personality and passion. Documentarian Ben Berman joined me for a chat about his new two part series on ESPN's '30 for 30: The American Gladiators Documentary'. The 'American Gladiators' was a fringe sport that was shunned by the mainstream media and embraced by the American people. Former professional athletes turned gladiators would face off weekly against contenders trying to upstage the larger than life behemoths with names like Zap, Laser, Dallas, Nitro, Gemini, Thunder, Viper, Siren, Ice and Malibu. However, what we saw on TV was only the tip of the iceberg as behind the scenes, the 'American Gladiators' origin story was not the Hollywood fantasy that co-creator, Johnny Ferraro wanted everyone to believe. Ferraro was an Elvis impersonator hoping to the turn the 'American Gladiators' into a movie about the working man turned hero...or so he claimed. Berman takes us through a two part in depth dive of who the actual creators were, why Ferraro is so secretive about his associates and co-creator, "Apache" Dan Carr was not originally allowed to speak with Berman and ESPN regarding the 30 for 30 documentary. Follow Ben German on Instagram @horse_berman and Twitter @Horse_Berman. ESPN's '30 for 30: The American Gladiators Documentary' airs May 30 and 31, 2023, on ESPN and streaming on ESPN+. Synopsis: From 1989 to 1996, American Gladiators was one of the most popular syndicated programs in television, a competition show that predated the reality TV era but used many of the same techniques to attract viewers. Every week, “amateur” contestants would go up against a cast of “professional” gladiators in a range of physical competitions, setting up David versus Goliath matchups that were popular with big television audiences but also earned considerable criticism for being “crash TV”. The show's cast and crew look back on it all, with their memories complicated by regret over what it did to many of the gladiators' lives. And as the behind-the-scenes story of the series is told, from the beginning of the film, the central, most compelling character of the story is clear: Johnny Ferraro, the creator of American Gladiators, a former Elvis impersonator from Erie, PA who came to Hollywood with a dream of putting the show on screen and ended up with a singular success. “We're very excited to finally get this story out into the world, and you can trust that it'll take you to some weird places,” said Berman. “Come for the 90's nostalgia, but stay for the Elvis impersonators, the burps, the mental torment, the murder plots, aliens, and of course the undeniable atrocity of America's dark history. And sports. It's got some sports too.” The film features original interviews with Johnny Ferraro, Deron McBee (‘Malibu'), Michael Horton (‘Gemini'), Lynn ‘Red' Williams (‘Sabre'), the late William Billy Smith (‘Thunder') and Salina Bartunek (‘Elektra'). The documentary is executive produced by ESPN Films and VICE Studios and produced by Ben Berman, Kirk Johnson, Russell Wayne Groves, Danny Gabai and Andrew Freston. Advance press screeners, additional information, including film clips and director statements and bios, are available upon request. Get ready for episode 15 of Overthunk with our amazing guest, Director / Producer / Filmmaker, Ben Berman!! I love what Ben says about his experience making The Amazing Johnathan Documentary. To paraphrase he got to collaborate with friends to make a movie and part of the magic was just getting started and figuring it out along the way. He said it reminded him of how he would make videos as a kid. I know this feeling! As kids we are just following our impulses to be creative and have fun. We aren't worried about getting paid for it… we're not worried about it being the next big thing… we are being curious and playful, just enjoying ourselves in the moment. Something else that struck me about Ben, he stays flexible and finds a way to the end result. He mentions a great book by Ryan Holiday “The Obstacle is the Way”. Things may not always be clear in the moment but he perseveres because no matter what he has to go through once he gets to the other side of the obstacle he will have achieved the goal. He keeps his eye on the price… ah, I mean prize. I wrote price by mistake and decided to leave it because here's the thing. Are you keeping your eye on the price and making decisions whether to go all the way or not based on what it costs you (discomfort, nervousness, being unsure, feeling outside your comfort zone) or are you truly committed to keeping your eye on the prize - the end result? Remember this, “The difference between the difficult and the impossible is that the impossible takes a little longer.” So hang in there and hang with it!! Everything will work out, you just have to get started and keep going. ***Have a question or topic for us? For this installment Ben Berman (Amazing Jonathan Doc on Hulu, Tim & Eric) joins me to talk about our deeply held Hindu beliefs. A thousand eyes stare upon us but we only have two to look back with. I just made that up. This philosophy shit is easy.
When coronavirus hit in March of last year, University of Pennsylvania student Ben Berman was planning a dinner party with a handful of friends, but had to cancel the party because everything was getting shut down. So
Have you ever had any experiences with emotional support animals? Jenn's daughter is going to college and her roommate has an emotional support rabbit! Also, Ben Berman from Good Pizza PHL joins us to talk about how he has raised over $30,000 for hunger relief and homelessness charities with homemade pizza and the IQ is at $303! Did we get a winner? (There might even be a hint!) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ben Berman, a Philadelphia based graduate student, has been giving away homemade pizzas in exchange for charitable donations since the start of the pandemic. After being featured by Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports, his “pop-up pizzeria” has become one of the city’s most coveted food destinations. Nearly 1,000 people enter a weekly lottery for 20 pies, each of which is lowered out of his apartment window via a pulley system. So far, Ben has raised $30,000 – and he’s just getting started.
Philadelphia resident, Ben Berman, took a creative approach to feed those around him. He began making pizzas out of his home and dropping them out of his window to customers. However, he wasn't charging for the pizza, but instead asked customers to make a donation. Berman told Fox News, "Donations that have come in through people from all over the world, people without any expectation of ever trying pizza," Berman said. "Anyone that donates to us, 100% of what they give is being given away." He has since raised $30,000 for charity. When a pizza is ready Berman uses a basket and pulley system to lower the pizza safely to the customer all while complying with social distancing. You can follow Berman and Good Pizza on Instagram here. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

18 months ago, I started to question everything about my company that I had worked so hard to build. It was like I had hit a brick wall. My business was booming, an awesome team, year over year growth, profits on the rise - everything a successful company needs. But I felt like it was all going to come crashing down sooner or later. We were no longer this small company and I was worried I wasn't doing the right things to continue this upward trajectory we were on. I turned to my trusted circle: Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) with what I was feeling. Almost everyone recommended the Entrepreneurial Operating System. They also told me if I was going to take it seriously to reach out to Ben Berman, Certified EOS Implementer. When I tell you, it was the absolute best business decision I have made (ever) – it's an understatement. Kicking off Season 4, on

We start out this week with a quick greeting, and then dive into a Skype interview with our pal Chris Graue. Chris has directed music videos and promo videos and any other needed video things for a huge number of punk and ska bands. We talk with him about his start and his involvement in the music scene. What a good dude! After that winds up, we are joined by another good dude - Ray Harrington! We discuss some comedy and improv news (Seinfeld! Oswalt! Middleditch/Schwartz!), then riff on the Doogie Howser, MD reboot on Disney Plus. We then discuss Ben Berman's Hulu documentary on The Amazing Johnathan. A fascinating film! After a quick toss to RI Food Fights' own Jim Nellis, we discuss some films I watched recently that weren't great. This leads me to ask the question "When does a movie go from bad to so-bad-it's-good?" A fun discussion follows! - BradMP3 Download | FB Vid
This week’s episode is a brutally honest and frank discussion with director Ben Berman. Ben has an extensive list of impressive of credits in film and television. His first feature, The Amazing Johnathan Documentary premiered at Sundance 2019 and is currently available to watch on Hulu.He recently took advantage of being locked down at home during the current coronavirus pandemic to make and release The Follow-Up which comedically deals with mental health issues that can arise in all filmmakers and creatives during this trying time. Our conversation covers a wide variety of mental health topics, and Ben has unique takes on anxiety and insecurity, the concept of happiness, the pitfalls of pursuing a career as a filmmaker, and also a quite commendable view of positively dealing with one’s critics. It was a fascinating conversation, and I think you’ll all enjoy it very much. You can also watch Ben’s earlier shorts, I’m A Mitzvah (Sundance 2014) and How To Lose Weight in 4 Easy Steps (Sundance 2016) and other work (including the music video he shot using my Zhiyun Crane Plus gimbal!) by visiting his Vimeo page.Be well, be safe, and we’ll be back next week with an all-new show for you!Produced & Hosted by Jason CharnickMusic by Jason David WhiteSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/HeadAboveWater)

After Johnathan is diagnosed with a terminal heart condition and given one year to live, he’s forced to retire his act. Cut to three years later: Johnathan is not dead, much to everyone’s amazement, and documentarian Ben Berman films the illusionist on an epic comeback tour. But as their mutual journey kicks off, Johnathan drops a bombshell that sends the film spiraling into uncertainty. Embracing this unforeseen obstacle, Ben delves deeper to determine what is truth and what is illusion. Built into the heart of this quick-witted and highly meta story is an indelible commentary on the process and ethics of making a documentary today. Issues of negotiation and access become the central threads that reveal, and further cloud, our understanding of this elusive protagonist. This debut feature is a wild ride that careens off the rails in highly entertaining and unexpected ways. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message
Hello, you. The Doccalo. A title bestowed upon anyone who happens to listen to this podcast. Even if you listen to two minutes of it and decide you hate it, you’re still a Doccalo. Forever. Eldridge and Bob unite to discuss a strange documentary about a comedian/magician that came out earlier this year. Layers of paranoia in this one as the director, Ben Berman, starts to feel like he’s being jerked around (and not in a good way) by the terminally ill comedian in the Hulu original documentary called “The Amazing Jonathan Documentary”. Layers of deceit or just paranoia? Maybe both? Fuck we don’t know. If you smoke meth while you watch this documentary, email us and let us know. Facebook helps connect people, but now it’s on a new mission to get people to fall in love. Facebook users in the US — it will be available in Europe next year — can create a dating profile and curate a list of secret crushes from among your friends. The dating industry is massive — estimates say that it will be worth $12 billion a year by 2020 — but Facebook has said its feature will be free. So, why is the social network getting into the business of love? Could it be after even more data about us? In this episode we speak to The Atlantic’s Kaitlyn Tiffany, who was at the official Facebook Dating launch party in New York. She talks about how it works and whether it could be a success. We also speak to developer Ben Berman, who’s created a game called Monster Match to show exactly how dating app algorithms work. Paco and George are joined by magician Andy Deemer to discuss both of the Amazing Johnathan documentaries out now: Always Amazing (Steve Byrne 2018) from All Things Comedy and The Amazing Johnathan Documentary (Ben Berman 2019) on Hulu.Whether sawing into his arm with a butcher’s knife or pulling pranks with audience members, The Amazing Johnathan was a reliable source of manic energy at many a ’80s and ’90s stand-up show. The Amazing Johnathan described himself as the “Freddy Krueger of Comedy,” and used that manic energy to regularly catapult his way onto Late Night With David Letterman and Comic Strip Live. His gory, smart and silly deconstructions of magic and coked-up circus geek tricks eventually earned him Las Vegas headlining gigs for a decade or longer. Then, in 2014, he announced that he’d been diagnosed with a serious heart condition, saying doctors had given him only a year to live. The Amazing Johnathan retired, seemingly destined to fade into the annals of cult comedy and the memories of ’80s kids who watched too much cable. But then came the kicker: Johnathan kept on living. And after a while, he grew bored and anxious to return, even if it meant dying on stage. Literally. And this is where both documentaries pick up the story. And the story of the two competing documentaries become a story within the story.Andy Deemer has been a screenwriter, magazine editor, product manager, and now Macaulay Culkin’s personal Magician. We learn all about Andy’s crazy lives while also getting to the bottom of the Berman Vs. Dropping Monday Oct 14th!There are two documentaries out about The Amazing Johnathan, the magician/comedian who rose to drug-fueled heights throughout the '80s-'00s.The Ben Berman-helmed The Amazing Johnathan Documentary was on the scene before comedian Steve Byrne's Always Amazing but the saga gets twisted when both film crews start running into each other at the extremely-ill Johnathan's comeback tour.Joining Paco and George on the twisty walk through the funhouse mirror of these dueling docs is raconteur and magician Andy Deemer. In addition to working for Macaulay Culkin's comedy brand, Andy has been the producer of fast food horror film Poultrygeist, a China-certified taxidermist, and probably even more weird stuff we have yet to discover.

Berman shares the crazy story of making ‘The Amazing Johnathan Documentary,' which is now available on Hulu.

The Amazing Johnathan Documentary begins as a profile on a uniquely deranged magician, who built a career out of shock and deception in the 1980s, but it quickly becomes the bizarre story about the unravelling of his documentarian Ben Berman. Johnathan Szeles and Ben Berman join me at the world famous Magic Castle to talk about the crazy experience of making this film. Johnathan discusses the heart condition that lead to his retirement in 2014, what his doctors say 5 years after giving him a year to live, and why Johnathan believes the secret to his survival is either stem cells, meth, or both! Ben talks about having to relinquish some control as a director and follow the Amazing Johnathan wherever this wild ride took him including having to contend with a second crew filming a totally different documentary about Amazing Johnathan. Plus the psychology of magic, the gamesmanship of elaborate pranks, why David Copperfield and Chris Angel hate each others’ guts, and Johnathan knows a lot about faking your own death! The Amazing Johnathan Documentary is available on Hulu and in select theaters beginning Friday, August 16. Keep up with the Amazing Jonathan at theamazingjohnathan.com or on Twitter at @TheAmazingJ, and follow Ben Berman on Twitter at @LipsBerman.
