The 2024/3 EXARC Journal brings you five reviewed and five mixed matter articles. All the articles are open access to allow for free exchange of information and further development of our knowledge of the past.This time two of the reviewed articles come from the UK and one a piece from Greece, Norway and the United States. The Vinca culture of Serbia is one of the first human civilisations. Possibly the first to smelt copper, one of the earliest uses of a symbolic proto-script and a hyper industrious producer of advanced ceramics including the earliest anthropomorphic life size clay busts. Yet few know of the wonders of this ancient culture. This week on Huntin'Land, Joe and Butch talk with Ben Elliott of Alabama Ag Credit about land loan interest rates and repayment options. We learned that land loan rates are tied to farm credit bonds, which are non-government guarantee Triple A-rated stocks used to secure funds down to the loan level. We learned that loan repayment periods vary from 15 to 30 years depending on the property size and that no points or rate lock options are available to lower the interest rate. We also discussed the options available for construction loans and revolving lines of credit and the benefits of Alabama Ag Credit's patronage program, which can effectively reduce the cost of borrowing. Lastly, Ben shared his crystal ball predictions for the end of 2023, with two more quarter rate hikes to be expected. Our Stories - Matthew 18:12-14: My name is Ben Elliott, and this is my story. Is it ok to have a mental illness and to still be a part of the church? What does God think about it? What is his plan? Those of us who have experienced mental illness, personally or among friends or family, know what it’s like. So, are there helpful – or even specifically Christian – ways for us to think about or live with mental illness? And for the rest of us, how can we help? This week at Foothills Alliance, I’ll be sharing a little bit about my own story of experiencing mental illness as a Christian. The Bible gives us a picture of a God who is incredibly filled with kindness and compassion towards those experiencing mental illness and their families, and a model for how we in the church can be too. This week, let’s be reminded together of the goodness of our Good Shepherd. Ben Elliott Rev. Ben Elliott (PhD Systematic Theology, University of Aberdeen) grew up at Foothills Alliance in the 80s and 90s and is currently the Lead Pastor at Deer Park Alliance Church in Red Deer. Ben has previously served in a number roles at Foothills including youth ministry, weekly study guide preparation, and playing the role of one of the lesser known of the twelve disciples in an Easter production. The Elliotts and their two children enjoy an active lifestyle and the outdoors; Ben especially enjoys cycling.

Shattered … no more – John 20:24-29: I don't know about you, but I think Thomas the disciple is somewhat unfairly characterized by his informal nickname "the Doubter". As a part of our faith journeys, don't we all have moments where we question, where we doubt? In those days following the resurrection, for Thomas, believing was going to require seeing. And Jesus took Thomas' reservations in stride. He didn't shy away from Thomas' need to touch and see.  But Jesus also appeals to Thomas to believe. And He's patient to explain that faith is really about believing in things not yet seen. Join us this weekend as Ben Elliott joins us to teach from John 20:24-29. Because, maybe just maybe, there's something we can learn about believing from this encounter between the most famous doubter, and the God who called him to trust and believe.
