People drink for various reasons: to celebrate, socialize, commiserate, feel more courageous, alleviate boredom, or escape their troubles. Some people may also drink in an attempt to relieve the symptoms of mental ill-health. The interplay between alcohol and mental health is intricate. But depending on alcohol as temporary relief for your mental well-being, can lead to additional problems and research has proven, excessive consumption often exacerbates these conditions. You might view alcohol as a coping mechanism for managing depression, stress, anxiety, or other challenging emotions. You might not really like the taste of alcohol, but enjoy the feeling of being drunk or ‘letting off steam'. You might drink to feel socially lubricated and part of the community. Or perhaps it's become a part of your habitual 'wind down' routine. But if you have quietly questioned your relationship with alcohol, or suspected you may rely on it too much, perhaps it might be time to take a different approach? Rest assured, if the thought of life without alcohol, or dramatically reducing your intake, makes you feel nervous or anxious. You are not alone. As Annie Grace said, 'alcohol is the only drug on earth you have to justify NOT taking.' Considering a different relationship with alcohol is a courageous and significant step, and there is no shame in doing so. The encouraging news is that while this may initially seem daunting or overwhelming, as you will hear in this episode of The Happier Life Project, numerous positive benefits await you on the other side. Sara Kaufman-Bradstreet is an alcohol free coach and the founder of 'No More Wasted Days'. After Sara quit drinking on her own, she cautiously shared her alcohol free journey on her personal FB page and realised there were people out there struggling with their relationship with alcohol just like she had. Sara now leads 30 day alcohol free challenges that allow people to experience an alcohol free life with guidance and support. She also leads an online community where she hosts weekly group coaching calls and is host of the No More Wasted Days podcast along with Heather P-G. Plus, Sara has a very active following on Instagram and TikTok having gathered an impressive following of people curious to re-evaluate their relationship with alcohol. Talking to host Gabby, Sara shares her own personal journey breaking free from a life of nightly drinking and hungover days, to being five years sober. She also explains that the catalyst for her transformational change wasn't hitting ‘rock bottom' or deciding to quit alcohol. Rather, setting herself the challenge of 30 days to remain alcohol free and being so blown away by the improvement of the quality of her life, she hasn't felt the desire to touch a drop since. Sara shares with Gabby some alternate ways to replace the buzz from booze and illustrates how and why cutting out alcohol can enrich one's life rather than diminish it. Gabby and Sara also discuss re-discovering your identity and passions while remaining alcohol-free and navigating the dating scene without relying on liquor to serve as a wingman. This weeks episode we bring together the highlights from two extraordinary guest episodes with Kate Northrup and Amber Lilystrom. In the first part of this captivating episode, Kate and Suzanne dive deep into the concept of making a life, not just a living. Kate passionately explores the societal expectations placed on women and the impact of being enculturated to prioritize the needs of others over their own. Unraveling the layers of societal conditioning, she delves into the importance of doing less, shedding light on how women often find themselves overwhelmed, anxious, and disconnected, searching for their true selves in a culture that glorifies selflessness. Transitioning into the second part, Amber Lilystrom shares her remarkable journey with Suzanne, navigating through the challenges of IVF, miscarriage, and adoption. Amber's story unfolds with a powerful message— "If the dream is in you, it's for you." She reflects on the profound changes in her self-concept, realizing that her struggles with infertility were just a chapter in a larger, unfolding narrative. Drawing inspiration from Steve Jobs' wisdom, Amber emphasizes the significance of connecting the dots in hindsight, discovering purpose even in unexpected turns. Join us for this powerful episode, where the wisdom of Kate Northrup and Amber Lilystrom converges, offering a roadmap for embracing life with purpose and navigating the intricate dance between dreams and reality. ¡Gracias!

In second grade Neil Sedaka's teacher sent a note home suggesting he take piano lessons. His mother took a part time job in a department store to pay for a piano. He ended up with a scholarship to Julliard School of Music. His song “Calendar Girl” came from seeing an old 1947 movie of the same name listed in “TV Guide.” We discussed his singing and song writing and ended up in an argument over his first hit record. Freddy Fender was a country/rock and roll musician known for his one hit “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights.” This will be one of the shortest podcasts you'll ever hear but it's fun. I wondered how Freddy came up with his name Freddy Fender. He quickly told me.
Slackers saxophonist, David Hillyard, sits down with Slackers fans, Matt Wixson and JJ Loy, to comb through rare songs and alternate takes from the band's thirty-year career. Hillyard and a rotating cast of Slackers bandmates swap memories unearthed by these long-forgotten tunes, giving fans a rarity of their own: an up-close and intimate conversation with the New York City ska and reggae legends. For the second installment, Dave, Matt, and JJ are joined by Slackers bassist Marcus Geard and guitarist Jayson "Agent J" Nugent to discuss the band's 2001 album Wasted Days, including discussion of the drastically different vinyl tracklisting and the impact of the iconic title track on the band.
The question we both get asked the most (besides what the heck is wrong with you guys) is what have you been doing the last four months? The answer is ... not much! Although we've been working, seeing that we are "essential workers", the radio appearances and trips are all on hold until safer times return. Dave has been working on his memoirs. Still trying to decide on a title. It's between "Master and Commander" and "Your Erogenous Zones." If this podcast episode had a title, it would probably be "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights."
We spend so much time chasing after temporary pleasures in this world. But the reality is, we'll never find genuine fulfillment in anything or anyone but Jesus. We only have so much time on this earth -- do we want to make the most of it by pursuing God's plan for us, or do we want to get to the end knowing we wasted the life He gave us?

Ko Ko Taylor [13:20] a side: "Wang Dang Doodle" b side: "Blues Heaven" Checker Records 1135 1966 A hot hot single from Ms. Taylor, with the song's writer Willie Dixon joining in on vocals and Buddy Guy along side Johnny "Twist" Williams on guitar. The Go-Go's [49:28] a side: "We Got the Beat" b side: "Can't Stop the World" I.R.S. Pastor Rudy preaches on 1 Thessalonians 3
Freddy Fender rose from poverty to musical success, battled addiction, and found peace through religion.Fame can be amazing. However, many famous people get caught in the trappings of addiction. Tammy Lorraine Huerta Fender tells the gospel truth about her father, Freddy Fender. Known as the King of Tex-Mex, Freddy wanted the whole truth of his life to be honestly shared. Freddy was a Mexican-American singer who rose from the depths of poverty, breaking free from a life spent picking cotton and rising to a life spent picking guitar. In his youth, in 1956, he was the first to record and sing Spanish rock and roll; he was known as the “Mexican Elvis” and called “El Bebop Kid.” In the mid-1970s, Fender would become famous literally overnight as a rock ‘n’ country megastar with his first two monster hits “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” and “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights.” Instantaneously, his records crossed over the Billboard country charts into the rock and pop charts, each rising to No. 1. He was given a Country Music Association award for “Single of the Year” and an Academy of Country Music award as “Most Promising Male Artist” in 1975. His voice and charismatic personality also made him a nationwide television celebrity in the ‘70s and ‘80s. During his last 21 years of sobriety, Freddy sought spiritual redemption, practiced forgiveness and made amends in his daily life; he came to lead by example with the aid of his higher power Jesus Christ. Freddy Fender was known to millions of people across the world as “an ordinary man who had extraordinary God-given talents.” Listen as Tammy joins Dr. Bond to share her memories of her father’s life of adversity and redemption.

This week we have comedian Adam Janovyak on to talk about the album Wasted Days by the Slackers. What do Devon and George think about this low energy ska/reggae album? Why not give the episode a listen and find out?
The Slackers are the kind of New York Ska band your momma warned you about, they live up to every expectation possible in ska love and you know damned well I was into ska in the 90's like every other good natured music geek. Getting to finally meet and sit down with Marcus Geard was nothing short of brilliant and the culmination of my 15 year old self's every joy. Marcus did not disappoint and I managed to capture so much of his life story he almost missed his ride out of town. The Slackers are touring now - GO see them live, this is the kind of band you literally HAVE to see live to understand the depth of talent here. Ska has an unfortunate tendency to disappear in the recording - they are like the jazz of almost-rock, you will never see the same show twice and that's one of the few times that is a good thing. Its a living breathing animal on stage and I'm not talking about Marcus' stash. The music has to be lived to be heard properly. There, you will fall in love. Marcus and I feel in deep deep like, making friends with rock stars is not something I ever anticipated with this little show but its damned sure a side effect one could get used to :) www.theslackers.com The Slackers are self styled masters of Reggae, Ska and Rock’n’Roll from New York City. The Slackers began in 1991 in NYC. After years of local gigs and rehearsing in a dingy basement in Manhattan’s lower east side, the band released its debut album, Better Late Than Never, in 1996. The band’s success resulted in the release of a second album, Red Light, on the Epitaph label in 1997. Since then the Slackers have released 11 more studio albums (The Question, Wasted Days, Slackers & Friends, Close My Eyes, Slackers in Dub, Peculiar, Boss Harmony Sessions, Self Medication, Lost and Found, The Great Rocksteady Swindle, and The Slackers [self-titled, 2016] ) 3 live albums (Live at Ernestos, Upsettin Ernestos, Slack in Japan), several EPs (International War Crimminal, My Bed is a Boat), and numerous singles and compilation tracks. Since 1997 the Slackers have played over 100 shows every year in a total of 46 american states, 7 Canadian provinces, 22 European countries, 5 Latin American countries, and 2 Asian countries. The band’s musical style is distinct from their contempories; a mix of early Jamaican music with classic 50’s and 60s American styles. There are influences from 50s and 60s Rock’n’Roll, Rythmn and Blues, Jazz and Latin music. Singer Vic Ruggiero has coined the term ‘Jamaican Rock’nRoll.’ to describe it. He says, “The band might play a classic Jamaican style but the vocals are distinctly American east coast, revealing the obvious connection of Jamaican music to the Doo-Wop of Harlem and the Bronx.” With the demise of record companies over the last 5 years, the Slackers have successfully used crowdfunding (www.bigtun.es/theslackers.) to release new music including the latest release, The Slackers [self-titled] in February 2016.

(RIGHT CLICK THE IMAGE TO SAVE THIS EPISODE TO YOUR COMPUTER) Aired December 21/22, 1966 Maurice Evans is the new guest villain, The Puzzler. Without even knowing the history of this story, one can see that this should have been a Riddler episode and there are many who feel the character is a poor replacement. But as you'll see in this podcast, there is a lot to recommend Puzzler as a worthy adversary for the dynamic duo and as one of the better villains created solely for the series. Of course, that's not to say this episode doesn't have its problems, that include determining if this is an established villain in the Batman 66 universe or someone entirely new, the proper definition of monopoly, and a crazed Santa Claus. Sorry for the delay in getting this posted, I had a busy weekend, so I wasn't able to record at my usual time, and this threw me off. I would like to give a big thanks to Tom and Cecil over at the Cognitive Dissonance podcast for playing my voicemail. This episode covers chapter 19 of TW Doane's Bible Myths and Their Parallels in Other Religions, which deals with the significance of the number 40 in the Bible. It also features me blathering a bit. Check out the shownotes to see the winning artwork, and for an answer to my blathering about Venus and the number 40.
