This week Dawson and Clint talked with Joshua and Amber Niven! They are authors of the book 'Discovering the Appalachian Trail: A Guide to the Trail's Greatest Hikes'. Even though their journeys and experiences on the AT came at different times - they found common ground in their love for the trail, its people, and the experiences it offers. Joshua completed the AT in 2013 with some friends and Amber backpacked over 1,400 miles of the AT with her dad and other family members after graduating Carson-Newman University. Amber is a lifelong journal keeper and Joshua is a professional and avid photographer - when they met it almost seemed like a book was inevitable. The layout and content of this book is very unique - offering some historical insights, character spotlights, and fantastic pictures that help the reader complete the journey. Our conversation took us through their AT experiences, their approach to their art, the writing and book development process, and as always - we got to hear some fantastic stories and perspectives. They currently live in Madison , NC with their two children and are living their dream as they become more self-sustaining and watch their kids develop the same love of the great outdoors as they have. A great episode about two people - two different AT journeys - becoming one book! Learn more about them at www.discoveringtheat.com. Thanks for listening! Tim's Christianity is the source of his interest in faith as a writing topic. And over the years, he has been a boss, and has been bossed around, hence the interest in leadership. He has a Ph. D. and a Masters degree in History from the University of Kentucky. Am I getting better at helping the players get better? There is a greater purpose than the wins and losses The purpose in coaching, and it helps us reflect Coaches have a ton of content to be able to reflect and learn from so much of that good content Help run camps! This is more than just camp, this is lesson in life and how to play the game the right way Be a constant learner Learning when to say things Find out about your kids and what makes them tick Learn to communicate with kids either as a group or individually Have a feel, common sense, street awareness How do we get instincts?Experience, have awareness of what is happening, watching the game, Variety in our training Different drills create athlete as catcher The body get used to the training it is under Catchers Gear only comes off when they hit Ask our catchers how their legs are train accordingly. This is after you get to know them so you know who to push and who to put the brakes on Different stances during each commercials Nothing better than catching bullpens for a catcher Top Gun competition - different test for every aspect of competition The more you can have some competition for receiving, blocking, throwing Spending more time on hitting might not allow you to get in the lineup Working on balls out of the zone to learn how to handle it. Gives the pitcher more confidence Keeps the run game in order Dry work, shadow drills, specific area, simple to complex Pushup to catch - help the body organize it and help when the skill is les complex Training needs to be a higher level than the game so the game becomes easier Visual training, verbal training, and have a lot of tools in the toolbox to help kids get better We are teachers trying to get players from point a to point b We all have opinions and no one is wrong If i am passionate about something and i can get my players to buy in then do it!! Skid mark on a movement object Listen to the umpire (quit moving) Its got to be something you believe and you are passionate about it and what works for you What works for you! You have to have some core principles When you go shopping, bring a small cart The key is getting the players to buy into what you are teaching Servant hearts - when we develop our catcher we need to develop leaders! The catching position is the leadership position Pitching calling, umpire relationship, leading pitching staff/team relationships, Classroom, video, we talk about it, show examples of leadership If we don't have them, we need to learn them What are the traits of a good leader?Teach, talk, and practice it! Get feedback when they do it!! Remind them of the time we missed it Specific feedback Intentional about finding wins everyday!! Pick up on things from a recruit during a visit and how they handle conversation and speak to parents Can we change this mans life?? Why not us?? Never forget where your heart is and what your purpose is Need someone to tell you the right thing and hold you accountable Need some sort of pitt stop and check in to slow it down and take moments to spend time with someone to make sure you are Any relationship starts with HELLO! We don't come to watch game, we come to learn! Life is about relationships and learning from others! You gotta see everything Bullpens to outfield - catch the good and catch the bad - want kids to know they are always being watch - everything matters Stretching, weight room - i need to evaluate the player to know you are going to our guy Want players to take ownership of that eventually 90% is being encouraging and 10% is correcting and holding the standard Practice variety - plan it like the game (from offense to defense) Baserunning, team defense, batting practice Creating mass hysteria!!! Help make them make decisions in those chaotic times Be a constant learner Find a mentor Find a servant heart Help the game grow We want a generational kid! Program built on developing the generational player tgriffin@cn.edu https://catchblockthrowit.com/

A native of East Tennessee, Earl Starbuck is an independent historian and a descendant of soldiers on both sides of The Late Unpleasantness and of Governor John Sevier. His father, who was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, taught him to love history and the South. Starbuck holds a BA in History and Political Science from Carson-Newman University and an MA in History from Liberty University. He has no connection to the coffee company. I talk with Starbuck about his petition “Tennessee Must Oppose Vaccine Tyranny” and how state's rights and nullification can resist federal overreach, but it requires action of the people and their representatives in those states. We also discuss big-government/Lincolnian indoctrination and Southern cultural genocide, compare bondage within today's godless empire to forms of involuntary slavery, and take many a deep dive down some thought-provoking historical rabbit holes, including a spoiler about one of the most commonly attributed quotes to Robert E. Lee. In addition to reading, signing, and helping spread the word about Starbuck's bold petition, be sure to check out his 4-part series on General Lee: The Believer, The Father, The Soldier, and The Educator, as well as his essays “Was Secession Treason?” and “Roe v. Wade: A Mere Nullity,” Thomas Jefferson's “The Rights of British America,” and M.E. Bradford's “Original Intentions On the Making and Ratification of the United States Constitution.”

Photos are a must-have when it comes to marketing a home for a listing. In this episode, photographer and real estate agent Brian Copeland shares his thoughts on the importance of great photos for your listings. Brian and Monica discuss the equipment and software that real estate agents can use to get the best photos (and the best price) for their listings. In the climate of the pandemic, virtual showings have become more important than ever. Real estate agents have to become “digital professionals” — capturing the full scope of the property with your virtual deliverables. Houses selling sight-unseen have also become increasingly more common, and a large part of that is due to the level of care agents and photographers put into getting the photos just right. Brian brings some elements of the music industry to his photography approach. As REALTORS® you are Artist & Repertoire directors of homes, overseeing and managing your brand as a whole. It is important to bring a standard to aerials, 3D photos, and stills — you never know what future business you may get (or not get) because of the photos you’ve presented on your listings. For real estate agents who may not have it in their budgets yet, make sure you learn how to take attractive photos on your phone or with the equipment you do have. Brian and Monica talk about some of the best photography equipment, software, and education resources. You can make almost any equipment work for you; it really comes down to process and using your eye to get the best shots. Some of the equipment that Brian uses are a Canon 6D, as well as a Canon glass, and several different lenses. Nikon and Sony also make quality equipment if you’re looking for a camera, but the cameras on iPhones are much better nowadays and can be a viable option. When it comes to software, Photoshop is a great option, and there are other lighting and editing software and apps out there. Lightroom is the standard. For education, one of the best resources is Kelby One. There is also great content available for free on YouTube. If you go the route of hiring a professional, make sure you understand the copyright laws. The person who actually takes the photos owns the copyright to the photos. As real estate agents, it’s great to have a conversation up front about copyright, so you both understand the usage of the photos. If you find that your photos have been used, always approach the other agent with professionalism. Houses will sell more when they look better. Decently staged and professionally photographed could bring your seller the anticipatory price, rather than the comp price. To get the best price, it’s also important to pay attention to the quality of the full package: 3D, aerial photography, and video. Brian talks about some of the best equipment and software for capturing 3D images and how you can upload them to listing sites, and gives advice for using a drone to capture aerial shots. When it comes to the video for the listing, DJI Products are great to help stabilize your current equipment. Video has SEO strategy for real estate agents, as well as a way to market the property. Most of the MLS have guidelines about what part of your brand can be in the video, so make sure you understand what can be included. As a tip, record an intro and outro that can be used for all of your videos. Brian and Monica talk about some different approaches to video — a walkthrough versus more of a teaser to the house. If you are doing a walkthrough or a virtual tour at request, you have to be quite thorough since the buyer may not lay eyes on the house themselves. This is a great opportunity to establish a sense of trust with your clients as you are candid about the property. Photography is an art form that takes years to perfect. As REALTORS® you want to deliver the best quality product — if that means hiring a professional, do so! If that’s not in your budget, make sure you take the time to educate yourself on how to get the best shots, what equipment you can afford, and best practices so your portfolio can stand out! It takes time to learn and you will get better. Tweetables: “Give them that extra level of supplemental digital leadership, and give them the risk; sight-unseen happens all the time and you just have to make sure you’re being a great digital supplemental resource.” — Brian “It’s all a matter of how you use it. You can use any camera with the right lens, the right glass, to your benefit — given that you have a good eye.” — Brian “Communication fixes a lot. Kind, professional, nonaccusatory communication helps a lot.” — Brian “When you build up that social trust, that digital trust, with your client, they will continue to come back and they’re going to tell their friends.” — Brian Guest Links: Kelbyone.com Immoviewer.com Theta360.com Dji.com Doorbellnashville.com Additional Links: Crdpodcast.com Onlinelearning.realtor for NAR Online Education Training4RE.com — List of Classroom Courses from NAR and its affiliates CRD@nar.realtor Host Information: Monica Neubauer Speaker/Podcaster/REALTOR® Monica@MonicaNeubauer.com MonicaNeubauer.com FranklinTNBlog.com Monica’s Facebook Page Facebook.com/Monica.Neubauer Instagram Instagram.com/MonicaNeubauerSpeaks Additional Bio: Brian Copeland (M.S., B.A., CRS, GRI, CIPS, e-PRO®, ABR®, Broker) prides himself on one-on-one buyer and seller service. I want to acknowledge this conversation to say this conversation was supposed to be responding to the second, town hall style presidential debate between President Trump and Vice President Joe Biden. However, after the president hosted a superspreader COVID-19 event, was diagnosed with COVID-19 himself, and had a healthy amount of his advisors and high ranking members of the administration also be diagnosed with COVID-19, Trump backed out of the debate once it was announced it would be virtual. So instead, we will be having a conversation about the other host of things happening in the world-- including the attempted kidnapping of Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the Supreme Court hearings, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi hinting around some options with the 25th amendment. I will note that today’s panel is all men, which is by no means intentional or an attempt to limit voices. Chalk it up to the scheduling and be sure I will do my best to make sure it never happens again. All opinions on this episode are a reflection of the individual and not their employer. AJ Simonton is a graduate of Morehouse College and Notre Dame Law School and an attorney in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Hope Griffin was literally born into music. Surrounded by a musical family, she began singing and performing when she was very young. Hope first got turned onto the idea of writing her own music when she received a guitar at age 17. She attended Carson-Newman University and went on to receive a Bachelors degree in classical voice. It was there that her true flair for songwriting developed. Hope’s drive to perform her original works was launched after winning a songwriters contest in college in 2007. She eventually moved to Asheville, North Carolina where she began introducing her angelic vocals and folky lyrics into the music scene. In 2018, she toured nationally in the the Northeast, Midwest, and Northwest regions and released her latest single “Carousel”, a hauntingly beautiful ballad which garnered much praise from both her local community and abroad. She can currently be seen on tour in a variety of combinations, most notably as a Folk/Americana duo with her cellist Jamie Leigh. Her free spirited personality and ability to tell beautiful stories through song make her a true force to be reckoned with – and a hard excuse to miss!

Hope’s drive to perform her original works was launched after winning a songwriters contest in college in 2007. She eventually moved to Asheville, North Carolina where she began introducing her angelic vocals and folky lyrics into the music scene. Hope quickly began to rise as an Asheville favorite. In 2012, her debut single “Hanging In The Balance” made international radio play. She was recognized in regional publications such as the Herald-Journal, The Mountain Xpress, and The Daily Times. She appeared on WNC television, and began touring all over the Southeast USA. In 2014, in an effort to expand her acoustic sound, she teamed up with NJ born cellist and Asheville transplant Jamie Leigh Bennett to create a dynamic guitar/cello blend of original sound. In 2016, 2017 & 2018, she consecutively snagged both best “Singer-Songwriter” and best “Acoustic/Folk Band” titles in Western North Carolina though community votes. Together, their combined fusion of her silky vocals and Jamie Leigh’s deep, rich cello lines has made for a listening experience quite unlike any other. Hope’s “in your face” style of ballad writing, as well as the duo’s reputation for playing fresh versions of songs that span through the decades has made them popular amongst a wide range of age groups. Hope continued to wow audiences and stretch the musical boundaries by switching from soulful ballads to high-energy blues with ease. Her 6 original song EP, entitled “Say What You Will” released on February 6th, 2015 to a sold out show at Isis Restaurant & Music Hall in Asheville, NC. Her third song on the album titled “A Fisherman’s Life” was awarded “best song” in WNC in 2016. Each song on the record offered a diverse style and hook worthy of its subject matter, but all were linked with Hope’s angelic voice, catchy beats, and poignant imagery. The album was one that fans of folk music and singer-songwriters had been waiting for since Hope first began mesmerizing her audiences, and was the perfect exhibition of her extraordinary talent. Riding on the wings of the success of 2015’s album, Hope jumped back in the studio to record a larger project titled “Where the Soil & the Stars Meet”, which released on October 31st, 2016. As a strong follow up to her previous release, Hope’s album—her first LP—was as eclectic and as unpredictable of a musical journey as those who fell in love with her debut might have expected. Song after song, Hope defied convention, leading her audience by the hand through honest reflections of true love, a broken heart left devastated, a chance meeting with strangers, to the celebration of a long life well-lived. Constantly blending genres, the very essence of Hope’s trademark style constantly remains: Her lyrical quality of capturing the simplest of life’s moments and rendering them profound reflections on the emotions that unite us all. A haunting and always evolving collection of ballads, “Where the Soil and Stars Meet” peered into the soul of an artist whose fingers remain firmly on the pulse of the curious odyssey in which we all find ourselves. At the conclusion of 2017 (and just in time for the season), Hope released her latest project “And the Lights Will Shine” – a 6-song collection of holiday tunes. Reflective of her usual folk flair, the EP was well received by all. As expressed by Bill Kopp from the Mountain Xpress: “With ‘And the Lights Will Shine,’ folk/Americana artist Hope Griffin bravely takes on a clutch of holiday classics (adding an original of her own) and creates a fine, distinctive record in the process.” Since then, Hope has far from slowed down.
