In this episode, we are joined by William C. Greenwalt, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), to evaluate the state of the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDs). Drawing on the release of his new report, “Required to Fail | Beyond Documents: Accelerating Joint Advantage through Direct Resourcing and Experimentation,” Greenwalt discusses the need to reform JCIDs to ensure military capabilities serve joint force needs rather than individual services, driving interoperability across services, and connecting strategy to acquisition by validating the alignment of new requirements. Additionally, Greenwalt highlights opportunities to improve how the United States aligns warfighter needs with technology development. Trees have been cut down, parking barriers installed, and plans are underway for construction to begin in June on the expansion of the convention center in downtown Bloomington.Even the name has changed, from the Monroe Convention Center to the Bloomington Convention Center. It's taken almost a decade to get the expansion project to this point. The plan includes a 61,000-square foot building across College Avenue from the current convention center, along with renovations to the current building. That includes a full-service kitchen that could serve close to 2,000 people, a bus pull-off with Third Street corridor alignment, a loading dock ramp, relocation of utilities, and a climate-friendly green roof. The two buildings will be connected by a skybridge over College Avenue. One sticking point in the project is with the planned hotel on site. Dora Hospitality has been approved to build the new hotel, but it's still in discussions with the city and county on exactly where the hotel will be built. That could delay the opening of the hotel until after the convention center is operational. Some are concerned about having enough parking in the immediate area, but CIB president John Whikehart doesn't think that will be a problem with the lots already owned and the nearby Fourth Street Garage. On this week's Noon Edition, we'll discuss where the Bloomington Convention Center expansion project stands, the economic impact for the county and more.Join us on the air by calling 812-855-0811 or toll-free at 1-877-285-9348. How is the Department of Defense faring with incorporating Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) into its technology development processes? Recent legislation requires acquisition programs to implement a MOSA to the maximum extent practicable. Anne McDonough, Assistant Director at the Government Accountability Office (GAO), joins the podcast to describe what MOSA is, who owns the MOSA approach on a program, and what the benefits and risks are as well as how policy can affect implementation. Michael Krouse, president and CEO of the Greater Ontario, California CVB, aka GOCAL, and regional vice president convention centers for ASM Global, shares details on a massive expansion project that will double the size of the Ontario Convention Center (including a parking garage that can double as an event venue!) as well as a new entertainment district, Empire Sports Complex and baseball stadium, and an expansion of Ontario International Airport and a downtown improvement project.
Scoot and Ian are joined by Dan Trayhan from Blue Plate to discuss their Spicy Mayo that Scoot and Ian shared yesterday, as Blue Plate has a flurry of food options offered throughout the week at the Convention Center, and some of the new options you can find out there that Blue Plate is creating.
Scoot and Ian take another adventure around the Convention Center to see what they can sink their teeth into, before stumbling across mayo expert, Bradley Brewster, of Reilly Foods, to discuss the science and marketing in the mayo industry and if a sweeter mayonnaise exists out there somewhere.

Today's show featured an interview Linda Erickson of the Star Speaker Academy. Find Linda on LinkedIn. LINDA'S TIP: "I want to emphasize the power of using stories into your deliveries. If I would have said, “Oh, the Convention Center has 73,000 square feet,” they aren't going to remember it. But they're going to remember a Guinness World Book of Records. They're going to remember the inaugurations. Those are the things that you leave people with, and you can always give them the information after. Data and information is good to a point, but it can also kill you."
