In this episode of the Powerful Stories Podcast, we sit down with Australian icon, Deb Hutton. She is a prime example of someone who has embraced life. Her credentials include television presenter, magazine editor and ambassador for charities close to her heart. As a teenager Deb left school at age 16 and had a motto - ‘Life is just to be lived'. She started her modelling career where her first job was the cover of Cosmo Magazine. ‘My life has been an adventurous tumble from one thing to another' says Deb ‘I just wanted to throw myself out there and see what life had for me.' In her 20s, Deb was picked as the face of Grace Brothers (now Myer) where she learnt how to stand up in front of a crowd and speak. ‘I was supported by many people,' says Deb, ‘without a doubt that is what has made the difference.' She went on to do the groundwork in her 30s. ‘As you age and you become wiser, and you learn a lot about yourself' says Deb. ‘It's that grounding of decisions, comfortability and knowing within yourself the steps you need to take.' But, you can never do it all on your own. Your tribe is paramount. ‘Surround yourself with the smartest people in the room, and I have stuck to that religiously.' The power of brand y-o-u is so important. ‘Around my 50's all my projects came to an end and I didn't know what would happen.' So, Deb stepped into the world of digital and started ‘Balance by Deborah Hutton', but she felt like she was on the hamster wheel. ‘After some time, I decided that I don't want that in my life anymore' says Deb, ‘You have to follow what you love. It's not about the money. It is about what makes you tick and what gets you out of bed in the morning.' She followed her gut instinct and teamed up with MyHouse to create her own range of homewares. Deb has had a life of highs and lows. Her battles with skin cancer have changed it all for her. ‘I've had to say this is just the way it is so let's just sit back and see what happens.' Out of her experience, Deb is now working with skin hospitals. ‘It's taken me in a direction I didn't expect but, I have worked with it – and there is a lesson in that.' Deb allowed the rawness of who she was to come out, resulting in a viral message of sun safety. So, what are Deb's key learnings for transforming a difficult situation into a possibility? ‘Find some sense of peace' says Deb, ‘because you become your own worst enemy if you sit in your head.' Meditation has changed the game for her. ‘Only amazing things can come out of journaling and leaning on people you love and trust.' So, sit back and enjoy this powerful story with the extraordinary Deb Hutton. Welcome to Campfire Classics, a Literary Comedy Podcast!! It's a party!! A Baby Party!! What? You don't know what a baby party is? That's okay, neither did your hosts before reading this week's story entitled "The Baby Party" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. If you're thinking it's a party where someone is going to juggle babies, you're wrong. Probably. Maybe. Actually, we're still not entirely sure on that part. This week is full of discoveries! What is the word Ken apparently cannot say? Who has the best pizza in small town western North Carolina? And...wait...what was that about juggling babies? That's a joke, right? "The Baby Party" was first published in Hearst's International Cosmopolitan, or as it is known today Cosmo Magazine, in February 1925. Remember to tell five friends to check out Campfire Classics. This weeks promo is from It Goes Down in the PM. Check it out. It really does go down! So sit back, light a fire (or even a candle), grab a drink, and enjoy.

Mia Freedman is the voice of a generation. She’ll hate us saying that, but the Mamamia media powerhouse, founder of Lady Startup, author, podcast host, (and also the woman who gave us our start!) has had her fingers on the pulse of the female experience since her days as Cosmo’s youngest ever magazine editor. Her instinct when it comes to what women want to read, hear, watch, and talk about is borderline prophetic. Mia’s warmth and no-filter approach to conversation makes this episode of FORTY as close to a ‘cuppa with girlfriends’ as you can get. In it we talk about the grief of letting go of your growing children, the difference between the career ladder and the career lattice, why every woman entering her forties should go to therapy, and how your neck will give you a shock at one point this decade. Mia also gives us a step-by-step tutorial on how to drop the mental load once and for all, what she says no to, and why the male gaze is overrated anyway. Infinitely chic and bursting with life, Paula Joye, is the creator of successful style website ‘The Joye’ and former editor of some of our favourite magazines (think Cleo, Shop til you Drop and Madison). She’s one of the few Aussie women over forty who’ve nailed the transition from traditional media to social media, turning her skills and herself into a trusted brand, all while unapologetically dancing in her bathroom, teaching herself the piano, and rocking a leather jacket/ball gown combo. Paula’s no-nonsense wit and laugh aloud stories of parenting teen daughters, telling off council workers, eating dirt (!), saying no to lattes and yes to JLo, made us fall head over heels for her. She is unpretentious, endearing and wise. So, what happens when you give yourself permission to love what you love? We find out in FORTY. This week, we bring you a very special show recorded live at the XOXO festival in Portland! We decided to liven things up by playing a special game in which each of us presents one piece of media we loved when we were younger to the crowd, and asking them to vote: Can we still love this thing, or do we have to dump it? A cult classic NES game, a mostly forgotten 80s TV series, and a much-maligned episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are all on the chopping block. How will the crowd decide? But that’s not all! We also talk about how Burt Reynolds was the first male centerfold in Cosmo Magazine (and whether or not this was a win for feminism), the “copaganda” of Insomniac’s new Spider-Man game for PS4, what sets Anita and Ebony’s upcoming book History Vs. Women apart, and much more. Speaking of Partnership: Personal Stories of the Power and Payoffs of Partnership
Sixteen years ago, when no one would admit to dating online, Lisa Shield posted her first profile. Two years and 100 first dates later she met and married the love of her life. Her success led her to become one of the first dating and relationship coaches in the country. She is a sought-after relationship expert and has been featured on Bravo’s The Millionaire Matchmaker, ABC news, and quoted in places like Cosmo Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. Her studies include a Master's in Spiritual Psychology, certification in Life and Relationship coaching from The Coaches Training Institute, and intensive training with Don Miguel Ruiz, author of “The Four Agreements.” Her forthcoming book, Naked Dating®, shows singles how to use their emotional nakedness to attract and keep a life partner. Lisa lives in Los Angeles, CA with her husband and best friend, Benjamin, and their two dogs, Milo and Owen. She coaches clients all over the country, both in person or by phone. Guiding Principle, Quote or Mantra “Out beyond right doing and wrong doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” - Rumi Be in relationship and let go of the need to be right. This creates a huge playground where you can play and be yourself because you don’t hold onto things. When You Tripped Up Lisa married a man who turned out to be a pathological liar. Where she tripped up is for a long time she just saw what she wanted to see and heard what she wanted to hear. She was so afraid for the relationship to end that she stayed in it for 13 years and made excuses for things that were not right. Lisa learned was that if someone is pathological they aren’t dealing from a healthy paradigm. His issues distracted her from dealing with her own issues so this disfunction served a purpose. The “DUH” moment that changed your partnerships forever During Lisa’s first marriage she was doing a great deal of introspection because things were getting so bad. They were having an intense discussion about money. And she realized it was the same conversation they had been having for the past 13 years. She stopped mid sentence and said “I can’t do this anymore. You need to figure this out, and I can’t do this for you. And I’m leaving.” The next day she packed her bags and flew back to the States. Current partnership that has you excited Lisa adores her husband. He is a truly extraordinary human being and she feels lucky to share her life with him. What is the best partnership / relationship advice you have ever received? You should never have to justify or explain yourself to a soul. People will either get you or they won’t. - Don Miguel Ruiz Best Partnership Book (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786881852/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0786881852&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=5c5862a8b822d7a69a7e98dd108bb134) Don't Sweat the Small Stuff . . . and It's All Small Stuff: Simple Ways to Keep the Little Things from Taking Over Your Life (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786881852/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0786881852&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=933193a092cb63e1e1dd72a7e96ebdb5) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316120049/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0316120049&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=a98e0e838c4ebaa71e8d54613d0a8ed5) Handbook for the Heart: Original Writings on Love (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316120049/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0316120049&linkCode=as2&tag=speakofpartn-20&linkId=32fd18503ca16fef8229a7ea22cdbcfd)...
