The craft beer industry is at an inflection point. Many upstart breweries have shuttered not long after opening, and even some of the original stars of the craft beer scene have gone bottoms-up in the last couple years. But one of the original craft breweries and most famous is doubling down. New Glarus, brewers of Spotted Cow, Moon Man and some of the most appreciated beers in the country, announced plans in October to build a $55 million, 65,000 square-foot addition to its campus. Founders Deb and Dan Carey join Myles Dannhausen Jr. to talk about the expansion, Dan's 40-year beer-making journey, and of course, why New Glarus beer is only sold in Wisconsin.

Pour Another Round heads across the pond and visits with Yvan from Brasserie de la Senne in Brussels, Belgium. Yvan is a passionate brewer and brewery owner and brings you the Brussels People's Beer! In our very first episode from Belgium, Yvan talks with us about quality and the desire to always do better.  From the beginning, Brasserie de la Senne has brewed bitter beers - bitterness is the key characteristic of their beers. Why? They wanted to brew beers to their liking that could no longer be found on the market. You'll also find really solid low alcohol beers at Brasserie de la Senne (no N/As though!). The Taras Boulba (4.5%) is “the” beer for quenching your thirst and you still get amazing flavor!Brasserie de la Senne takes great pride in being a local brewery and focused on the Brussels region through and through. Exports are limited, however, their beers are available in a dozen countries, with a leading presence in the United States, Italy and Japan. Follow Pour Another Round:Facebook: /PourAnotherRoundPodInstagram: @PourAnotherRoundPodWebsite: pouranotherround.com Follow Pour Another Round: Facebook: /PourAnotherRoundPodInstagram: @PourAnotherRoundPodWebsite: pouranotherround.com

Yet, the songs are among the brightest they've done.Grian Chatten's lyrics have transcended their Dublin roots and embraced a universality. The preoccupation with a city of origin is replaced by Romance as a concept. His vocals have grown on this record, more soaring, more melodic, brighter, less gutteral, more commanding and varied. But is it any good? We had the pleasure of interviewing Georgia over Zoom video!UK artist Georgia recently released her fantastic new record, Euphoric, co-produced by Rostam (Haim, Carly Rae Jepsen, Clairo). An accomplished drummer and producer, Euphoric marks the first time that Georgia has worked with another producer on her own material. The result is ten blistering new songs that vibrate with energy. The album's lead single “It's Euphoric,” was the first track that Rostam and Georgia wrote together that went on to dictate the entirety of the album's colorful soundscape. The New York Times described it as "dreamy, upbeat reverie...which captures the buzz of new love. She settles for a simple, repeated refrain of “it's euphoric,” giving that last word a prismatic luminosity." With a BBC Sounds of 2020 nomination and a Mercury Music Prize Short List under her belt already (for her previous album, Seeking Thrills), Georgia is one of the UK's most celebrated young musicians. She's collaborated with the likes of Mura Masa, Gorillaz, Shygirl, Baby Tate, Dan Carey and David Jackson, and, most recently written with Years and Years' Olly Alexander and on Shania Twain's album Queen Of Me. In the UK and Ireland a new music phenomenon is growing - bands that are speaking over their songs instead of singing. Is a new guitar music movement being born? Fontaines D.C., Dry Cleaning and Yard Act, as well as solo artists including Billy Nomates and Sinead O'Brien are just some of the acts using speech prominently in their music. It is not just vocal performance that has been commented on - many emerging bands have been described as having a ‘post-punk' guitar music style and lyrics rich in social commentary. Musician and broadcaster Gemma Bradley meets bands and vocalists to find out more about this exciting music trend and why. James Smith, songwriter and vocalist of English band Yard Act explains why he was attracted to what he describes as ‘spoken word, politically forward' guitar music. He reflects on the power of vocal performance and how the Covid pandemic affected his song writing. Irish vocalist Sinead O'Brien performs on stage with a guitarist and drummer and works in poetry as well as music. She meets Gemma backstage before a gig to discuss how versatile and impactful speech in music can be. Fionn Reilly from Belfast band Enola Gay explains to Gemma what inspires his energetic performance style, vocal delivery and the band's song lyrics. Gemma also visits the prolific and much sought-after producer Dan Carey at his London studio. He has worked with many guitar bands that use speech in their music including Fontaines D.C., Squid, Wet Leg and black midi, and describes the freedom available for artists unconstrained by the parameters of singing. Dr. Shelby Ellison, UW-Madison Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture, has looked into using hemp for paper, clothing, the value of using it in cattle feed, for bricks, insulation, and much more. In 10 Wisconsin counties, forestry is the No. 1 employer. Any mill closures or change in markets has a major impact on the economy and the statewide forest industry. Stephanie talks with Chief State Forester Heather Berklund. She says the DNR's role is in all areas of the supply chain -- ensuring industry partners are supported, keeping forests healthy from invasive pests, working with landowners, and recruiting other forestry businesses to the state.  While some may not think of beer as an agricultural product, it truly is. Brewers depend heavily on farmers for a consistent supply of grains and hops to ensure the production of quality beer. Charitee Caught up with Dan Carey, brewmaster with New Glarus Brewing Company.  Dr. Matthew Lazzara is a meteorologist that works with the automatic weather stations for the US Antarctic Program. With around 60 weather stations across Antarctica, they are observing surface weather in an area bigger than the US and Mexico combined. He explains that while Antarctica may be a world away, many of the weather tools they use there can also be found on farms here in Wisconsin. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kae Tempest is a songwriter, rapper, an award-winning poet, and best-selling novelist. They've been nominated for the UK's Mercury Prize and Brit Award. Their most recent album is The Line is a Curve, which came out earlier this year. It was executive produced by legendary producer Rick Rubin. Kae made the album alongside their longtime collaborator, producer Dan Carey. I talked to Kae and Dan talk about the song "Move." You'll hear the first demo they made, which sounds almost nothing like the final version. In this episode, they talk about how the track evolved over several sessions, months apart. Kae's own life changed a lot during that period. They came out as trans and non-binary in 2020, and this song, in part, helps tell the story of what they were going through. https://songexploder.net/kae-tempest

"Black Midi" are a four piece rock band from London, often described as a mixture of noise rock, post-punk, jazz and progressive rock.Black Midi's members all met while studying music at the BRIT school, an infamous school in the world of UK music whose former pupils include King Krule, Amy Winehouse and Adelle. They would spend their time outside of studying to get together and jam in the school rehearsal rooms, a process which eventually led them to perform live at Brixton's "Windmill" live music venue. It was at this venue that music producer Dan Carey saw them play and offered his services to record and produce some of their material, an opportunity that would see them record in a studio for the very first time.Fast forward to late 2021 and "Black Midi" have released two full length albums as well as a selection of EP's and live recordings. These guys are young, incredibly talented and produce some very intense and intricate music.
