If you feel drained, depleted, and like no matter how much rest you get, you're still exhausted....you're not alone!  You're not tired because life is hard.  You're tired because you're stuck performing.  Performing as the nice girl.  Performing as the easygoing woman.  Performing to keep the peace and please everyone.  This is women's burnout hiding in plain sight - and nobody's talking about it.  In this episode, I reveal the real reason you're so exhausted (spoiler alert: it's not your to-do list), how 'being nice' is slowly draining your energy, and how to stop people pleasing so you can reclaim your power.  You'll learn:  Why performing makes women invisible and miserable  How the good girl identity keeps you stuck in burnout  What to do to stop being nice and start being real  How to recover your energy and step into your selfish era  You don't need more rest. You need to stop performing.  If you're exhausted and over it, this episode will show you how to break free and start living for YOU.  Sign up for Glow Notes!  Check out my guest spot on The Divorce Survival Guide Podcast!

Learn more about my patented program, Your ADHD Brain is A-OK Academy here: programs.tracyotsuka.com/signup___________For many ADHD women, relationships can be complicated—especially when navigating emotional intensity, executive dysfunction, and the feeling that something just isn't right. Kate Anthony, host of the Divorce Survival Guide Podcast and author of The D Word, joins Tracy to talk about what it means to reclaim your agency, especially when you've spent years feeling like you're the problem.Kate shares her story of growing up undiagnosed, struggling in traditional learning environments, and always feeling like she was “bad at school”—until her son's diagnosis helped her connect the dots in her own life. The discovery gave her a new lens of self-compassion and helped her understand why experiential learning worked when academic structures didn't. Now, as a divorce coach and certified domestic violence advocate, Kate helps women—especially mothers—do the deep personal work of deciding whether to stay in or leave their marriages, with an approach grounded in self-knowledge, clarity, and safety.Kate and Tracy also explore how ADHD shows up in relationships: the dopamine-seeking behavior, the impulse to over-function, and the toll of living beneath your potential. They talk about how abuse can be subtle and confusing—especially for ADHD women who are naturally empathetic, people-pleasing, or used to masking—and why working on yourself is essential before making big relationship decisions. This episode is a powerful listen for anyone stuck in the question: Should I stay or should I go?Resources:Website: https://kateanthony.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedivorcesurvivalguide Facebook: https://web.facebook.com/YourDivorceSurvivalGuide Send a Message: Your Name | Email | Message Learn more by connecting with Tracy through Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or visit adhdforsmartwomen.com.Are You Ready to Discover Your Brilliance? I'm excited to welcome Kate Anthony to the show today, "America's top divorce coach." Kate Anthony, author, critically acclaimed podcast host, and high conflict divorce coach, is not afraid to initiate tough conversations about relationships, domestic violence, and the cultural implications of our patriarchal society. In her book, The D Word: Making the Ultimate Decision About Your Marriage, Kate dives deeply into the importance of self-work and the cultural understanding of marriage in order to sustain healthy interpersonal relationships. She serves clients across the globe through her private coaching, group programs, and her wildly popular online program,“Should I Stay or Should I Go.” Kate equips her clients with the tools they need to identify abusive relationships, and feel empowered to make decisions for themselves and their children while feeling validated and supported. Her number-one-ranked podcast, The Divorce Survival Guide Podcast, recommended by the New York Times, has reached over three million downloads and Kate has been featured as an expert in The New York Times, Forbes, Newsweek, and Pure Wow. Kate is a survivor of domestic abuse herself, and overcame many of her own challenges with navigating divorce with a child to consider. She believes that in order to uncover the root of marital issues we must look deeply at the patriarchal systems that underpin cis-hetero relationships in the 21st century. Kate understands how these systems affect men's behavior, marriage, violence in America and even divorce legislation in the US. This has inspired Kate's involvement with family court reform through organizations such as the National Safe Parents Organization (NSPO) and her advisory board membership with the Divorce Coalition. We discuss navigating toxic relationships, recognizing the signs of abuse, and empowering women to make the difficult decision of whether to stay or go. This is such an important topic that I know so many of our listeners are grappling with. Every single year, over 1 million women question leaving their marriage. And nearly 70 percent of all divorces are initiated by women. And it's no wonder – Marriage makes men's lives exponentially easier while it makes women's lives drastically harder. It is clear that ‘traditional' marriage dynamics are no longer tenable for American women.  Years ago, I remember having a chat with a friend where she was lamenting that she should be grateful her husband wasn't cavorting around, cheating on her, abusing substances, or screaming obscenities at her. I clearly remember her saying, “Wow, the bar is set pretty damn low.” Seriously. Not being abused should be a given, not something to be celebrated.  In my near two decades of coaching, I have found myriad women frustrated, overwhelmed, and downright furious about the inequity in their marriage. Whilst doing all the domestic labor, holding down impressive careers, and digging deep into therapy and personal development, these women often find themselves lonely, heartbroken, and baffled at the lack of ownership and responsibility their partners were exhibiting in the relationship. No wonder recent studies cite single women without children being the happiest in our society. In this week's episode, I chat with my close pal and colleague, Kate Anthony, who has just penned a book entitled, “The ‘D' Word: Making the Ultimate Decision about Your Marriage”. Kate talks with me about her own divorce journey, shares about debunked studies citing divorce negatively affects children, understanding narcissism, and the courageous choice not to settle for subpar relationships. Have a listen and gain more insight on if you should stay or if you should go. This pod explores: Understanding various forms of abuse and the unexpected way financial abuse shows up  The faulty and unfounded research that propagated the notion that you should “stay together for the kids” and what new research has found Why trying to “just communicate more effectively” isn't working for you and what to focus on instead The curious place we are in history where the gender dynamics of marriage are changing dramatically   PERKS FOR THE POD-IENCE This podcast is sponsored by LetsGetChecked and The Bold-Faced Truth Podcast listeners get a whoppin' 30% off their first test kit of choice at trylgc.com/boldtruth or simply enter code boldtruth at checkout. How do you know when it's time to divorce? That's a question I often receive from clients, so I decided to bring on Divorce Coach and Author, Kate Anthony to help answer this question. During this encore episode, we discuss what to look at when you are considering divorce and how to determine if divorce is the right decision for you. We also talk about why many women are unhappy in their marriages, and if that is a reflection of the marriage itself or the life that they are living. We ended the episode with a discussion around how to know if you are in a relationship with a narcissist and if the diagnosis even really matters. Kate is someone that I've looked up to for a long time, I love her podcast and I've even taken some of her courses to help me with mediation. She is such a joy to learn from, I can't wait for you to tune in. In this episode:[4:20] Kate shares what led her to do the work that she's doing now. [8:18] What are the first things to look at when thinking about getting a divorce? [11:25] Why do women get unhappy in their marriage?[18:25] Kate gives her insight on when people are married and there is nothing wrong with their marriage, but that they have fallen out of love. [23:22] How to know if your spouse is a narcissist and what to do about it.[28:24] Kate offers a piece of advice for helping women reach the decision if they are truly wanting a divorce or not. Key Takeaways: [11:33] Women are so over stretched with everything that they have on their plates and are carrying an unequal load compared to their husbands. Society has women working, paying the bills, keeping up the house, being the main caregiver for the children, and managing everything that comes with those tasks such as doctor appointments, extracurricular activities, presents for special occasions, etc. Then they also have to be the ones to care for their husband and understand his flaws and balance those out as well. [16:34] There has been a study done that shows the happiest people in Western culture are married men. The second happiest are single women, the third happiest are single men. Married women are the least happy people in Western culture. [21:57] A loving relationship is when both spouses feed the health, safety, and sanctity of the relationship. When both people are willing to put in the work to help the other be fulfilled and find happiness, while also doing the work on themselves, the marriage is a happier place to be. Quotes: [11:33] “Women are unhappy in their marriages because marriage, the institution as we understand it or as we live it today, benefits men on the backs of women and our labor, whether it's domestic labor, emotional labor, we're carrying an absolutely unequal load.” - Kate Anthony[13:22] We spend so much time going, ‘but he had a really hard childhood and I understand why he is the way that he is and it's really hard for him.' And okay, I can understand the way that he is and have compassion, great compassion. But I'm not going to have more compassion for his childhood wounding than I am for how he's dumping that on me.” - Kate Anthony[16:10] “Feminism means that you believe that women have equal rights to men and should have them under the law and in our culture and in relationships. Like that's, this is not a bad word unless you're in a relationship or a system that very, very, very much depends upon us not having that equality, which most relationships do.” - Kate AnthonyGuest Bio: Kate Anthony is the author of The D Word: Making the Ultimate Decision About Your Marriage, host of the critically acclaimed and New York Times recommended podcast The Divorce Survival Guide Podcast and the creator...

In this episode, Top Family Law Attorney, Susan Guthrie speaks with friend and host of The Divorce Survival Guide Podcast, Kate Anthony about the right way to tell your spouse that you have decided to divorce. It is January 3rd, 2022, the first Monday in the New Year and that means that it is D-Day (Divorce Day) the day that more people reach out to divorce attorneys and other divorce professionals than any other day of the year.  This kicks off what we in the industry call Divorce Month (January) and Divorce Season (January - March) because traditionally, this is when people, those who have been considering divorce for a long time or those who make a quick decision, find themselves pulling the trigger and moving forward. The decision to divorce is hard, and can take a long time, but the next step, telling your spouse, is one of the most critical steps in the process and it is imperative to do it right!  Kate Anthony, Susan's guru on all things communication, joins her for this episode to help you plan that conversation so that you start things off the best way possible.  Trust us, this is truly one of the most important conversations that you will ever have and it pays to put time and effort into doing it the best way possible so that you can, as Kate says in the episode, put your head on the pillow that night knowing you did your best. They say that you should start as you mean to go and that is never more true than when starting a divorce.  How you tell your spouse, will set the stage for how your divorce will unfold and in many ways, how you will continue into your BEYOND so take the time and do it right! *********************************************** About this week's special guest: KATE ANTHONY: Kate Anthony is the host of the critically acclaimed podcast The Divorce Survival Guide Podcast and the creator of the groundbreaking online coaching program, Should I Stay or Should I Go? which helps women make the most difficult decision of their lives using coaching tools, relationship education, geeky neuroscience, community support, and deep self-work. What would it be like if, instead of hearing, “I'm so sorry you're getting divorced!” and feeling the resulting embarrassment, you heard, “What a fantastic opportunity for you I front of you!” How would you feel then? I bet you'd feel pretty powerful and courageous! Today's guest, Wendy Sterling, is on a mission to break the stigma around divorce and help women embrace empowerment instead. Using her signature tough love and accountability (as well as her 5-step REHAB process) she helps women walk the aisle from “I Do” to “I Did” to “I'm Done.” Top take-a-ways: Take 100% responsibility for your 50% – no more and no less. FREE WORKSHOP ~> Have you ever found yourself referring to someone in your life by saying, “They simply don't have any boundaries!”? Maybe it's an overbearing boss or a parent who is all up in your business and you find yourself labeling them as the one who has no boundaries. What if it was actually the other way around… what if it was about YOU who hadn't established any boundaries with them? When someone in your life is forceful and brazen, it can be so easy to assign blame to them and focus on why they are a complete asshat instead of examining the behavior you may be tolerating. Perhaps it's about what you haven't said up until this point… the behavior you continue to allow. And maybe you constantly complain about how frustrating your mom is or how aggravating your co-worker is, yet you complain to the wrong party. To those who may give you sympathy, but who aren't capable of creating any substantial change. On the show this week, I dial up Kate Anthony, a dear friend, colleague and a powerhouse in the field of ultimate boundary setting: maneuvering through divorce. In this candid conversation, we discuss the areas where women tend to struggle with boundaries, tactics to start speaking up for yourself, and how to reclaim your power. And, please don't be fooled… this episode is NOT only about divorce. There is something to be gleaned for any woman struggling to speak up for herself in a powerful way. Get some. This pod explores: The most common areas where women have difficulty speaking up for their wants, needs, and opinions Where [the hell] to start if you know you need to start establishing boundaries The sexual boundary that many women don't even realize is available to them How Kate managed to have a stellar divorce even though her marriage was hugely abusive ______ NEW *FREE* WORKSHOP READY TO GET RID OF PERFECTIONISM, SELF-DOUBT, AND OVERWHELM? Someone submitted this anonymous question to my website: My son often asks for his daddy. I don't know what to say to him. It breaks my heart because I've done everything I can to bridge the gap and encourage his father to be a part of his life. But he's totally absent. Only visits maybe 20hrs a month sometimes less. Can you give me any advice on what to say to my son about where his father is? Why he isn't here etc? These kinds of questions break my heart. According to Psychology today, "...24 million children live in biological father-absent homes— in the United States alone. And 1 in 3 children grow up without a father." What this means first and foremost is that you are not alone.  This episode gives top-tips for handling these questions, some of which depend on age and development, but most of which can apply across the board. At the end of the episode I break down the difference between divorced and single moms, and why I no longer EVER call myself a single mom. Wanna work with me? You have options! In this episode I look at dating after divorce, and how hard it can sometimes be to be the new person coming in when the exes are "besties."  I look at this from three angles, and give a prescriptive for how best to make this often difficult shift work. After our divorce, while we each dated other people, my ex and I still did holidays together, went to the theatre together, and had family dinners together. After all we'd been through we were now close, and as he began to date I took on the awkward yet esteemed role of First Wife. I'd befriend his girlfriends. Partly because it seemed easier; we could all just be a family, and it would be less complicated for our son. Or at least that's what I told myself. But the truth was that I couldn't let go. I didn't want to lose my spot as the primary woman in my ex's life. We'd spent 10 years together, and I barely had an identity outside of him. ULTIMATELY IT WAS A POWER-PLAY BASED ON MY OWN INSECURITIES. I WAS PISSING ON MY TERRITORY, AND MY EX WAS MY TERRITORY. But when my ex started dating the woman he's now married to, that all changed. We'd all been friends for a while, so knew what I was up to. She immediately set very clear boundaries and firmly (and rightly) pushed me off my perch. Ultimately I knew that this rearrangement of status was perfectly appropriate, but I also had a LOT of feelings about it. Being moved out of my position as First Wife gave rise to new layers of grief I'd never anticipated... ************************************* Wanna work with me? You have options! Conversely, there are ways that the system is set up to be sure that it does... and all those ways benefit the system itself. When I first split from my husband I consulted a divorce attorney—a litigator. I wanted to educate myself on my rights before going into the process. California is a no-fault state, so no matter who did what to whom, the laws are pretty clear: 50% of all assets or debts incurred during the marriage would be mine. The state even has a calculating program called the DissoMaster for figuring out support based on percentage of custody and the incomes of both parties. Makes sense, right? My ex made more money than I did (I was a stay-at-home-mom, so he actually made all the money), so he would have to pay me child support and spousal support for a time. Except then the litigator began to show me that if we slid the custody bar of the DissoMaster over, my support would increase. More custody for me meant more money from my ex. When I told the attorney that I wanted my son to see his father 50% of the time, that he was a great dad, and that I didn't want to take my child away from him, he scoffed. He began throwing out scenarios in which I could disparage my ex in court so that I could get more custody, thus more money. In the process, the attorney was going to make gobs of money off of me and the fight he was about to stage between me and my ex. I didn't go down that road, and instead sought out a mediator who asked us an important question that set the tone for our entire divorce and mediation proceedings:  Do you want to put your son at the center, or in the middle, of your divorce? This episode tells the story of how that all came about and how I gave up my house in service of my son. ******************************************* Wanna work with me? You have options!
