How much do you listen to what your body is telling you, when it comes to hunger and eating? My guest on this episode really got me thinking about how little listening I do to my body vs how much listening I do when it's other people sharing opinions.Jeanette Thompson-Wessen aka The Mindset Nutritionist is a nutritionist and intuitive eating coach and we discuss a lot, from diet culture and how we're all walking pound signs when it comes to the diet industry... to whether the ‘obesity crisis' is an actual thing or is it just a way of stigmatising people.Jeanette is also a mum of three so we cover how to talk to our kids about intuitive eating (and the temptation to sell them off when parenting feels too hectic!)You're probably going to have a lot of thoughts on what Jeanette has to say - come over to Instagram to tell us what you think! If you enjoyed this episode then please leave a rating or review - and you can follow the podcast to ensure you don't miss future episodes. In today's episode you get to listen in to a very juicy conversation with two of my favorite colleagues, and this conversation has been brewing for at least a couple of years. The concept of intuitive eating can sometimes seem really hard to navigate in today's world. Intuitive eating has completely revolutionized and pushed back against 'diet culture' and this is a beautiful thing! But, now we have this whole population of folks who are struggling with how to navigate intentional eating, along with intuitive eating, while being mindful of aligning healthy eating with their values. So, in today's part one of a two part episode series, my friends Dr. Erica Castleberry, Licensed Mental Health Counselor Christopher Guider and I will be unpacking the pros of intuitive eating and how this method can be helpful, as well as some of the challenges of intuitive eating and how you can best navigate these challenges. My hope is that this episode gives you the knowledge, and the permission slip, you need to grab hold of your next steps on your empowered eating journey with the autonomy to decide what you want to do next, and how you want to take care of your body. Imagine being able to effortlessly eat in a way that helps you feel amazing in your body. As humans, we were all born with the gift of intuitively knowing how to nurture our bodies. Just think about how babies do it. They cry when they're hungry, then they look away once they're full. It's the most natural thing in the world. But as we get older, we start to hear things that we eventually come to accept as our truth – from expectations of what our ideal weight should be to how much or how little we should eat. We learn things along the way that eventually bury our natural instincts when it comes to food. We turn to diets and become obsessed with restrictions, taking away our power when it comes to choosing how to nourish our bodies. In this episode, we'll talk about how eating intuitively is the most natural thing in the world for humans and how to heal your relationship with food so that your natural instincts, cues, and body trust can finally resurface again. "When you have healed your relationship with food, Eating with Love and Intuition™ will become as easy and second nature as breathing.” - Sloane Elizabeth In this episode, Sloane talks about: How eating intuitively has been natural to us since we were babies The systems in place within our body when it comes to food and nutrition Why we should listen to our own body cues to decide what's natural or not How to unlearn beliefs that block our natural body cues and intuition How to use the science of food as part of our human gifts …and more! Food Freedom Academy Waitlist: https://sabrinamagnan.com/letsconnectIf travelling brings up food & body anxiety for you, this episode will help you learn how to go on vacation with food freedom, let go of rigid food & exercise rules, and enjoy your trip without guilt, shame or obsession over how you're eating or moving. When I was struggling with my relationship with food, the idea of going on a vacation didn't bring up emotions of excitement or joy, like it should for most people. It brought up anxiety & fear. In the throes of my disordered eating, I couldn't properly enjoy myself because I was so consumed with trying to control my food & burn calories through exercise. Back home, I had structure, restrictions and rules to follow. I was able to keep my food anxiety in check as long as I stuck to my "safe foods", cooked at home and respected my self-imposed rules about what/when/how much I could eat. I worked out every single day, and felt guilty/anxious if I ever took a day off. As you can imagine, being sent into a whole new and uncontrollable environment was a nightmare to me. Things like knowing every single ingredient in my food, going out to restaurants MULTIPLE times a week (or even a day!) or not exercising for a full week tied my stomach in a knot. If I DID manage to push myself to travel, I was distracted during the entire trip. The places, the people, the new food, the experiences ... were are tainted by my obsession with rigid eating and exercising. Last week, I took my first REAL long vacation since the pandemic to New Orleans, Louisiana. I had such a blast visiting one of my good friends and fellow business owner. I explored, learned about the culture, tried the local food (LOTS of it) and took some much needed time off. Off from exercise. Off from work. Off from responsibilities. The week made me reflect on my past experiences with travelling, and how my history with disordered eating & dieting affected the way I felt while on vacation for many years. I feel so lucky and privileged to be able to travel without an ounce of anxiety around eating or exercise. If you're on your Intuitive Eating journey & experience fear at the idea of travel, I'm going to share 6 tips (spoiler : + a bonus tip at the end!) that I wish someone had told me years ago. If this feels like deja vu it's because this is our first of the off season re releases. This episode originally released in Season 1 on October 2nd, 2020 when we were still Drunk Dietitians. It's so fun to go back through older episodes and hear how we interviewed and (often) talked over each other before we got the hand raise method down. We've grown so much and it's amazing that our pod has grown with us! In this episode we interviewed Evelyn Tribole aka the co author of THE intuitive eating book! If you can imagine, this pod answers SO many of our frequently asked questions about intuitive eating and questions you may have not even known you had! We talk about how the IE book came to be, how to talk about IE with non-believers, and what is and isn't considered diet culture. If you are new to IE or just want to hear from ½ of the OG's IE dietitians, this is the perfect episode for you! Find her on IG @evelyntribole

Today I sit down with Cara Clark from Cara Clark Nutrition. What I love about Cara is that she is in the business of health & nutritional education and never from a diet perspective. She has taught thousands of women, groups, atheletes & celebrities about the power of food on a cellular level. After giving up diet culture for several years now, I find myself returning time and time again to everything Cara has taught me about food and the way it works with our bodies to feel our best!
