Did you know there is an app that can help reduce the risk of stillbirth in the end of pregnancy? I know a big fear of many moms out there is how to know if your baby is healthy as your pregnancy gets closer to your due date (and even beyond your due date). You can easily add in an evidence-baed approach of daily kick counts to your routine to check-in on baby's well-being. Joining me today is Emily Price, the CEO of Count the Kicks, to discuss stillbirth rates in the US, why there are such racial disparities and risk factors you need to know about. Most importantly, we will dive into the common myths around stillbirth and what not to do if you think your baby's movements have reduced compared to their normal patterns! Count the Kicks has a public health campaign that educates and empowers expectant parents to track their babies' movements in the third trimester of pregnancy. Kick counts are one of the FUNDAMENTAL things to your pregnancy. Today we're going to talk about why you do them, and how to do them. So helpful! Today's guest is Emily Price who oversees the national expansion of the evidence-based Count the Kicks public health campaign that educates and empowers expectant parents to track their babies' movements in the third trimester of pregnancy. The proven stillbirth prevention campaign helped lower Iowa's stillbirth rate by nearly 32 percent in the past decade, and within that, helped lower the stillbirth rate among African American women in Iowa by a promising 39% in the first five years. This major reduction happened while the rest of the country remained relatively stagnant. Price leads the vision of the campaign --- with an overall goal of realizing a 32% stillbirth rate reduction in all 50 states, which would save 7,500 babies every year in the U.S. She left a career in television journalism to pursue her current role after a story she reported on saved the life of her son Hayden. This episode was inspired by my kick counts post. Big thanks to our sponsor The Online Prenatal Class for Couples -- let's get you prepared from bump to bassinette. Tons of good information (including info on kick counts). Birth doesn't have to be scary, this class helps! In this episode Why you should do kick counts What benefits they give you and your baby, including bonding Kick counts have shown to have a 32% reduction in stillbirths when practitioners and providers do them! 77% reduction in anxiety Other things that might interest you My other episode on kick counts. "Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use." --Emily Post, born Emily Price on this day in Baltimore, 1873.
Emily Price, COO of the British Franchise Association joins Rebecca Monet and Tracy Kawa on this episode of The Franchise Woman podcast: Where Passion & Purpose Collide. Emily was raised by a father with big bodacious goals and a mother who believed in him. Together they taught Emily to think big, ignore the naysayers and move forward towards her goals with vim, vigor and tenacity. Listen to Emily's story of how she went from shying away from the limelight to shining a light (good, bad and ugly) on an industry ripe for change. Emily along with her CEO and team at the British Franchise Association have set out to modernize franchising through operational frameworks, leadership, resources and people development. The goal? To become a franchisor, franchisee and franchise supplier's trusted partner in this ever evolving world of franchising.
For pregnant moms, feeling those first kicks, flutters, and movements of your baby can be an exciting pregnancy milestone! Those movements also are key indicators of your baby's health. Abnormal patterns of movement can signal a health risk, so counting the kicks of your baby can help you understand what's normal and when to be concerned.Emily Price, executive director of Healthy Birth Day Inc., joins host Jessica Stewart-Gonzalez to share how counting kicks can prevent stillbirths. Plus, they tell you how to make counting kicks an easy and fun part of your daily routine! Host:Jessica Stewart-Gonzalez is the Program Director for the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program at the Arizona Department of Health Services. She is married, has two young children, and loves reading (anything except parenting books!) and watching movies and TV. She loves to spend time with her kids (when they aren't driving her crazy) and celebrating all of their little, and big, accomplishments. New! Can people really change? I can’t wait for you to hear what Emily Price has to say. My fave conversations are with experts who speak frankly as mom friends, so basically, in this one, I’m in heaven. Our returning guest Emily Price, a New York City based psychotherapist specializing in anxiety welcomes us into her minivan in the northern Michigan woods for a super fun conversation about teaching our kids indepedence in a big city (free range parenting in Queens), cross country road trip hacks for travelling with young kids, and exercises for reconnecting with your partner. Atomic Mamas loved Emily’s first conversation: “Who’s Got Anxiety” and it was so fun to get a chance to do this one face to face after playing with our kids together all week. When she’s not teaching me how to make a mean grilled cheese in my grandparent's cottage, Emily is an adjunct faculty member at the NYU Silver School of Social Work. Listen up! Author of The Punishment She Deserves: A Lynley Novel Interview starts at 12:25 and ends at 36:50 “The late Sue Grafton said something to me that was really helpful on time. I was talking about difficulty I was having in the book with a character. She said to me, ‘If you know the question, you do know the answer.' That was really helpful, because what that told me is that if I could articulate what difficulty I was having with a book then buried somewhere in my head was going to be the solution to that problem. Originally released 1/24/17. How do we handle the transitions we experience as mothers without losing our minds and keeping our sense of humor? In podcast #114, mom-in-chief Ellie Knaus interviews psychotherapist and favorite relative EMILY PRICE about how to handle big change and all the anxiety that comes along with it. Emily gives us grounding techniques that can keep us from freaking out no matter what life throws at us: whether that be an unexpected pregnancy (or expected), moving, switching jobs, or family loss. We also call B.S. on our “get over it” culture and share what to do instead. But first Ellie brings on her husband Adam to share their ridiculous Sunday night…You’ll never think of “mother-daughter twinning” in quite the same way. PS We're both pregnant.GUEST BIO:Emily Price is a licensed clinical social worker and mom of 2 boys (now 3 boys!) living and working in New York City. She’s been extensively trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and is a certified somatic experiencing practitioner. Our first Education Edition of ColinTalk features an interview with Emily Price, a 7th Grade Humanities teacher at Conestoga Middle School with a psychology degree. We discuss her story of becoming a teacher, how she utilizes her psychology skills in the classroom, student leadership skills, inspiring students, our current education system, and the challenges of teaching. Plus, I was convinced by Emily to include an all-new word association 'lightning round!'
Stuart Morgan from www.stuartmorgangolf.com was the Director of Instruction at the International Junior Golf Academy in the USA. Stuart has spent his life helping young golfers to develop and has a wealth of knowledge to share with the talent community. We focus on the experiences he went through with developing a young female golfer called Emily Price and her journey of success towards several amateur titles and the way that the engagement with the family is all important. In the episode we cover: - How Stuart works with young players on the course and in context as mush as possible. Designing challenges and using constraints to challenge their skill set. - How the relationship with the parents is all important but the relationship is built in having clearly defined roles. - How a delayed specialisation model was used in Emliy's development. How keeping her away from the system until the right moment played an important role in her development. - Creating an ecological environment around her in order to develop resilience and the characteristics required for excellence. - How Stuart's book 'Gifted Junior' can help parents and coaches to navigate this process. Enjoy the episode
