Nobody panic, but we're almost through July! It's the perfect time for this powerful conversation I had with Dakota Dawn Johnson in today's episode. We're talking about navigating our own expectations, and I want to encourage you to have this same conversation with the people in your life. What are your expectations for yourself? Dakota shares that while she's always thinking about cowboys, kids, cattle, etc., she has to remind herself that we all have different buckets we're navigating. She shares a visual of Dusti Crain-Dickerson while Roman Riding and how she's in control and has the reins. So do we. We can change direction or expectations at any time. We talk about how saying “no” isn't necessarily a hard no, but rather, you're finding the right “yes” that fits with the season of life you're in right now. Dakota shares a personal and recent story that shows how she went from responding “yes” on the spot to giving herself the space to be more intentional with her time. You can learn to say “no” to something but “yes” in other ways. Getting clear on your priorities so you know what the best things to say “no” and “yes” to are is important and will always be a work in progress for us all. When you choose to change expectations, different opportunities can arise. In this mini episode of the Joyful Health Show, we will dig into what it means to pursue health goals that align with the Lord's will for you. Should we pursue a pain-free life? Is weight loss a harmful pursuit? What goals are both beneficial for us and honoring to the Lord? Drawing inspiration from 2 Corinthians 5:1-10, I'll address the sustainability of health goals, integrating your intuition, and the significance of aligning with your life's purpose. Takeaways: 1. Purposeful Health Goals: Evaluate if your health goals align with your life's purpose and are sustainable for the long term. 2. Life-Giving Choices: Explore whether your health pursuits bring joy, energy, and kindness to reflect God's love for you and others. 3. Seeking a loving outcome: Instead of chasing short-term results, envision how your health goals contribute to love and compassion, fostering a positive impact on your relationship with God and others. Our hope is that this podcast will give you some questions to pray through with the Lord before you invest your time, energy, and resources into the next health pursuit. Listen to His voice, and let Him lead the way. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 Resources: Discerning the Voice of God for Your Health podcast episode from the Joyful Health Show What is Intuitive Health and Does it Actually Work? podcast episode from the Joyful Health Show Body Blessings: A 30-Day Journal to Praise God with Your Body through Prayer, Intuitive Eating, and Joyful Movement by Kasey Shuler and Aubrey Golbek The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands by Lysa TerKeurst

Today I get to share my conversation with Bethany Beal of Girl Defined Ministries. Bethany and her sister Kristen Clark have written a timely book called Not Part of the Plan: Trusting God with the Twists and Turns of Your Story where they both share their stories of learning to trust God and deepen their faith in Him as they experienced seasons of longing and waiting. Bethany shares from her journey of singleness and longing for marriage, and Kristen shares her journey of infertility, multiple miscarriages and ultimately pursuing adoption. In this conversation Bethany and I talk about more of their story, what led them to create Girl Defined ministries, and growing hearts that are for women to have a place to truly find their identity in Christ so that they could cling to the hope of Christ no matter what happens in their lives. We also talk about what it looks like in seasons where you do receive answers to prayer, but then those answers aren't what you thought they would be, how to steward those experiences, and just generally how do we live by faith and wrestle with God well, not perfectly, but with perseverance. The only thing constant this side of Heaven is Christ and as we begin this Lenten season, I felt so called to look at stories of people who have really grieved, and wrestled and continue to do so, as we wait and long for Christ's coming at Easter and Him coming again to make all things new, and I think Bethany's story and her infectious hope for the Gospel is a really beautiful place for us to start. Additionally, they have a deep connection to what is going on in Ukraine and are walking out a deep season of grief and trusting God in a way they've never experienced before. On of their sisters and her husband live in Ukraine and are fleeing from the attacks happening there. They are sharing their story transparently on instagram in particular, specific ways to pray for their sister, her husband's family, their friends. Additionally, Kristen Clark's adopted children are Ukrainian, so there's this whole other level of grief for their homeland and people they love still in crisis there. The boys and their cousins are actually trying to help raise money for their orphanage in Ukraine, so if you would like to support their efforts, I have included Kristen's venmo and cashapp links over in the show notes, and in my stories as well. Be sure and follow them, check out ways you can support them, and then maybe check out the resources they present on their website, in their book, and other books they've written that are designed to help us stand firm in what God says is true when life is happening in a way you never saw coming. No matter what happens, next, friends. You matter, and your story matters. God is not finished with your story. He will carry it through to the day of completion. The temptation to compare ourselves isn't actually new. It's just easier, and the sources have changed. But for thousands of years the Proverbs 31 woman has stood as the pinnacle of womanly success. She has been placed on a pedestal. She has been praised, and she has been hated. Some people say she is modeled from Ruth. Other people say she is a completely made up a woman. All of that aside, I want us to really take stock of this beautiful lady. And in doing so, I want us to be encouraged and inspired, rather than threatened and defeated. In this episode we take a closer look at the Proverbs 31 woman and the secrets to her success that you may have missed before! It's Episode 3 of Just One Simple Thing and I'm delighted that you've hung in there with me for these simple beginnings. In this episode, we'll tackle one of the top struggles we face ... making decisions. My favorite tool for making confident choices is the Decision Making Framework. It will help you make good day-to-day decisions in your ministry or business. So let's dive into the framework.Key Points:The struggle with making decisions is that we don't have a method to evaluate one option versus another.Having a Decision Framework makes it super clear in our heads and keeps us focused. The second part of the Decision Framework is to move closer to solving our biggest pain points, not towards making them worst. The third part of the Decision Framework is thinking about our resources and what we do have instead of what we lack.By combining your why...with your pain points...and your resources, you have a framework for making decisions.Action Step:Download the Decision Framework worksheet. There is a place to record your why, your pain points, and an assessment of your resources. Complete the worksheet, snap a picture of it and tag me on social media with the hashtag #justonesimplething so I can cheer you on!Resources:Join our community in the free Facebook Group Plan & Play with Do A New Thing for support, encouragement, and follow up on your action steps.Book Recommendation: The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands by Lysa TerKeurst++++++++++Are you tired from trying to share your God-inspired message while working your full time job? You are Led.... John 10:3-5 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers. John 10:27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. Proverbs 3:5–6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 1 Corinthians 2:16 For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. There's always more. There will always be more opportunities and options than you have the time and capacity for. And just because some have to be left behind does not necessarily mean any one thing (pursuit, task, action) is better than the ones left behind. There will always be more. And it is possible that it is all good. Decision fatigue is real, my friends! In the midst of a particularly emotional storm of overwhelm, I sat pouring out my complaints to the Lord. Begging (as I have done countless times over the past decade), “Lord, just show me exactly what You want me to do, exactly what path you'd have me take, and I'll go after it!” That is when the Lord brought to my mind the story of the Israelites collecting manna. How the heck did they choose which manna to take when it was all good!? Boundaries: In this Episode we are talking about Boundaries, what it means to have boundaries and how they can be a healthy good thing in your life and in your relationships. We believe we should all have them in our relationships in the workplace and in our family. First we talk about how Boundaries are a personal thing, we cannot control or set boundaries for another person, so we have to set our own property lines in relationships with other people. We can only control us, our actions, our emotions. Then we go on to discuss what it looks like to say, NO. We can become so addicted to saying yes to please people or to not cause them harm or inconvenience them, and we often put everyone else's needs before our own. It is okay to say no, you have to draw the line and see what you are sacrificing for yourself or your family. We talk about what it looks like to live in freedom and not be bound to making other people happy. We talk about how sometimes boundaries can be difficult to set in a relationship because even in a loving relationship can have unhealthy boundaries. There are so many important boundaries that need to be there for a family, like when to put your phone down and focus on family, when to leave work at work and be present in the moment. Welcome back to Bri Books! We’re back with part 2, the conclusion to our discussion about the book “Boss Bride” by Charreah K. Jackson.THANKS to everyone who let me know you’re reading or have read Boss Bride! Shoutout to @brownsugarhoney3, @itspaulana, @joimariewrites who are reading Boss Bride. Here’s part one of the Bri Books “Boss Bride” recap. 1:55 - Now that I’m done reading the book, I wanted to go deeper past top takeaways into what I really noticed about the book. 2:15 - Definition of “Boss Bride” 3:00 - With self help books, I always bookmark and swear I’ll come back to them. But "Boss Bride" did something different--it weaved together the experience-based stories and the learnings. It’s like memoir-meets-manual. 3:45 - On this epi, I'm sharing three deep, integral things I noticed about Boss Bride. The patterns and behaviors that I noticed that are integral to being a "Boss Bride." 4:30 - #1: Affirmations. In the book, Charreah dedicates part of a chapter to affirmations. She says, “The increase in activity I experience now is not an accident. All things that come through my door have been awaiting my arrival as well. I’m ready for an onslaught of responsibility, and in that I stay accountable to my spirit, self, health and wellbeing.” 5:45 - Affirmations aren’t about making something up out-of-the-blue. It’s about affirming a reality. 6:00 - Definition of affirm: To state as fact, assert strongly and publicly. Affirmation is the action or process of affirming something or being affirmed.” 6:30 - Having affirmations is about more than saying nice things to yourself. It’s about stating fact. 7:50 - I can’t wait to make my own affirmations and decide what I’m affirming. As they say on Tea with Queen and J podcast, ‘What are you affirming to be true and fact?’ 8:30 - #2: Don’t let grass grow under your feet! Charreah stays busy at conferences, retreats, symposiums, events! It’s a beautiful thing to stay busy and out in the world. 9:00 - It reminds me of the Patricia Bright’s YouTube video from 2014, “Dealing with Loneliness.” She says, when you’re lonely, take up a new skill! 9:45 - #3: Release judgement on how things should look, and focus on goals, especially with relationships. 10:00 - Relationships are heavy and messy, because humans are heavy and messy. Charreah says, “Accepting the vulnerability and giving someone else the power to impact my life, is a process.” 10:30 - I read the book “The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions In the Midst of Endless Demands” by Lysa TerKeurst. It spoke about how relationships will always need work, so just jump in now and get to work fixing and building them. 12:00 - Thank you! I hope you enjoyed this part two breakdown of “Boss Bride,” thank you to @brownsugarhoney3, @itspaulana, @joimariewrites! I’ll be mailing my book to a friend :) 13:00 - You like this podcast? I think one of the hard things when you are a creative is, you know, we kind of tend to think if something is our baby, and when we have an idea or a vision of how we want to do something, that there is only one way to get there. And the truth is, there are a lot of different methods. Really letting people use their own method, and as long as everyone has the same goal and the same vision, that's the main thing." Angela Correll "We all can do a lot of things, but there are only a few things we can probably do well." Angela Correll "Doing things in excellence takes time and energy." Angela Correll "Sometimes you can rob someone else of an opportunity by trying to do everything." Angela Correll "I think perseverance and patience are two of the most important qualities you can have. I've just seen over and over in my life that perseverance is so much more valuable than talent really." Angela Correll RESOURCES AND LINKS MENTIONED *Links below may contain Affiliate Links. I am swamped. I’m loaded down with a 27 item “to do” list. And I’m afraid. So I avoid that list like the plague and fill my time up with my favorite escape. Reading. You see I’m afraid I can’t do it all and that if and when I do any of it, it won’t be right. It won’t be correct. Oh heck, it won’t be perfect. There. I said it. So now that I’ve said it, what do I do with it? This podcast will help you explore the issue of fear. How to recognize it, identify how it’s being lived out in your life and then take some first steps towards letting go of the fear so that you can live the life you were made for. Here’s a list of the books I read to avoid my “to do” list. (They are all really good books!) I talk about them a bit in the podcast too. The Bookman’s Tale: A Novel of Obsession, by Charlie Lovett The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance—What Women Should Know You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter, by Dr. Joe Dispenza The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are, by Brene Brown On Writing: 10th Anniversary Edition: A Memoir of the Craft, by Stephen King All In: You Are One Decision Away From a Totally Different Life, by Mark Batterson The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands, Lysa TerKeurst So, there’s a huge list of ways to avoid doing what you need to be doing. Only one of these was really directly impacting something on my list. (Lysa’s book) Strategies for you to implement to reclaim your light: Figure out what you really want. And find the fear that’s keeping you stuck. (Fear of Not enough, Fear of Rejection or Fear of Success) Take the first steps towards what you want. Let yourself celebrate your victory. (Even if it seem insignificant in the overall effort.) Encouraging Word of the Week: Matthew 5: 14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” The post #017: Throw Down Fear and Light Up (Podcast) appeared first on Christy Largent.
