The hour wraps up with Sgt. Mike Mshar of the Michigan DNR. He answers this week's Ask Avery question. Captain Dave Engel of Best Chance Charters is featured in the final hour this week. This is the third interview in Com d'Archi with architects or engineers working in the United States. From the practice of the daring Frenchman Jean-Michel Humbert, based in Washington, to that of the great engineer Eric Long, of one of the most important architectural firms in the world, SOM, and now Jeff Kovel, architect and founder of Skylab Architecture, who delivered the fascinating world headquarters of the sports brand Nike in 2022. Both of them work from the West Coast of the USA. It is very interesting to see how the American architect sees the way to build today and on a large scale, in the context of climate challenges.I know that the most informed of Com d'archi's listeners, and not the least, have already fully appreciated the opportunity that these unpublished testimonies represent in France in order to understand the different ways of apprehending the practice: differences in scale and energy, network logics, etc. I would like to take this opportunity to invite all our listeners, whether they are lay people or experts, new or faithful to the program, to push their curiosity and listen to this new testimony! They will not be disappointed.Did you know that Nike has just delivered its world headquarters in Portland? This project covers an area of 140 tennis courts. How can such an achievement meet the ecological challenges of our era? That's what we're going to talk about today through the testimony of the founder Jeff Kovell of the architectural firm Skylab who designed this building, with the great Serena Williams associated to the creation process, as well as the executives and teams of the American giant Nike. But not only because Jeff Kovel, in his life, also crossed the singer Lenny Kravitz and designed without knowing it the house of the series Twilight became cult! Nice listening!Anne-CharlotteThe episode was recorded on January 25, 2023 from the Remix Studio in voice over.Image DR © Jeff Kovel - Skylab ArchitectureSound engineering : Julien Rebours___If you like the podcast do not hesitate:. to subscribe so you don't miss the next episodes,. to leave us stars and a comment :-),. to follow us on Instagram @comdarchipodcast to find beautiful images, always chosen with care, so as to enrich your view on the subject.Nice week to all of you ! SOMIn 1936, two architects and an engineer formed a partnership; their founders understood the power of combining their expertise within a single firm. Since then, SOM has grown to include urban designers and planners, interior designers, and more. Their teams are composed of designers with an artistic sensibility, architects and engineers with highly specialized technical knowledge, and planners with a deep understanding of policy and economics. The synthesis of these viewpoints generates design solutions that no single person could have imagined on their own. From sustainable engineering, to healthcare design, to regenerative city planning, none of their areas of expertise stands alone. Each is deeply interwoven with the others, informing and being informed by them.An exceptional "recipe", since 1936, the office has become one of the most prestigious in the United States and the world.About the interviewEric Long is a structural engineer and partner in SOM. Very used to international relations, he did not hesitate to receive me in their San Francisco office on January 3rd (2023). I asked him the usual questions in Com d'Archi, about his background, his desire for engineering and architecture, the projects he has led, the DNA of SOM and his vision for the future. What I got from him was a resolutely positive stance, coupled with that special American energy. Our scales there and here are not the same. And their challenges are colossal, especially when it comes to seismic problems. Their work in California is unique, I hope that through this interview you will be able to appreciate the stakes! This discussion explores the growing role architects, engineers, and other industry professionals have in researching and executing on sustainability goals and initiatives in the construction industry.
Wood has been perhaps the most common material for buildings for millennia, but innovations in its application are bringing new opportunities and advantages for working with this sustainable material. Structural applications of mass timber are proliferating in types and scales. Factory assembly of wood components can produce stronger elements in designed architectural shapes. To find out more about the characteristics and benefits of new uses of wood for infrastructure, we talk with Eric Long, Structural Engineering Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in San Francisco, who leads the firm's West Coast Structural Engineering practice.
Hour two features Eric Long of Long Line Charters. The topic is fishing on Lake St. Clair. Nick Green from MUCC is up next. He also answers this week's Ask Avery question.

If you love ice cream as much as we love ice cream it won't surprise you that ice cream loves ice cream too. Please don't waste any time making sense of that sentence, though, because there's too much good stuff in this episode, in which Rich (flying solo while Matt's on vacation) and returning guest host Eric Long, of Teracloud, examine a new product bundle from N-able for early growth MSPs, new data on cloud security and PC sales, and best practices for conducting employee performance reviews. Then they're joined by Jon Murchison, CEO of MDR vendor BlackPoint Cyber, to discuss a scary recent incident in which attackers turned everyday IT management systems into nearly undetectable ransomware delivery tools. Not as sweet as ice cream, but no MSP should miss it. We are off and running here in 2021 with the podcast and a new episode for you to enjoy. Not everyone chases fish during the hard water season so it is a great time to work on your boat or start looking in the market for one to purchase. Eric Long from Long Line Charters joins us for this episode to tell us all about a $3,000 boat he purchased and fixed up for an affordable price. When looking for a boat you don’t have to break the bank especially if you don’t have much time to fish or if this is your first time buying a boat. Eric shares with us what he looked for before purchasing the boat and what to look at when you are there thinking about pulling the trigger. I love this episode because he breaks down the steps of what he did to get this affordable vessel into fishing shape and ready for open water when it arrives. Check out Eric’s website below and I hope you can take away some pearls for your boat this upcoming season. Enjoy. Freshwater Bite is Powered by Simplecast

2021 is here, and not a moment too soon. To celebrate that happy occasion, we invited 22 (count ‘em) of our guest hosts from 2020 back on the show for a series of group chats about top IT industry story lines from last year and predictions for next year, plus the latest can’t-miss reading recommendations from the ChannelPro Book Club. Earthkeepers: A Circlewood Podcast on Creation Care and Spirituality
In this episode we’ll be talking to Professor Eric Long, a biology professor who has learned to live in the space between science and theology. In our conversation about wildlife ecology and ecotheology, we consider the important truth that everyone can and should choose to be an ecologist—or a theologian for that matter. Eric reminds us that anyone can find ways to work for the good of the earth, no matter what their vocation is. You don’t need a degree in environmental science to understand ecology, or a theology degree to see the ways that God is revealed in nature. In this episode we want to encourage and equip people to think way out of the box when it comes to figuring out how their jobs, their hobbies, and even their community and family lives, can all be directed toward promoting the health of the planet. What do Back to the Future and the Star Wars saga have in common? The answer is in this week’s show title. What would it cost to get you up first thing in the morning to do a podcast? Matt, Rich, and special guest host Eric Long, of TeraCloud, can apparently be bought cheap, and not just for talking. But talk they do about a range of topics, including all the news from Ingram Micro’s ONE conference, the swelling wave of M&A activity among MSPs, the ever-terrifying security threatscape, getting an IoT practice off the ground, LCD monitors, and sandwiches. Yep, you read that last part right. Rich and Eric are in the Mile High City for this episode, after all. Munchies are to be expected. Subscribe to ChannelPro Weekly! Wrestling tuna 60 feet underwater, Chasing barrels, all while growing a kickass brand - Welcome to episode 6 with Slippa founders, Jeff and Eric Long. Ft. Schuylar Warrenchak @skyfilmsmedia This was my first podcast recorded with all my brand new podcasting equipment so you will hear an increased in audio quality. These 2 brothers dived deep into a range of topics like 1) How to build a lifestyle brand, 2) How surfing stimulates creativity and gives them a sense of purpose, 3) The dangerous yet incredibly rewarding art of spearfishing in the open ocean hunting for bluefin tuna and more. 4) Social media success tips (particularly Instagram.) You’ll note in this podcast that Jeff and Eric have different opinions on a lot of things which is great because they both bring a unique skill set to the company. I particularly loved what they had to say about entrepreneurship and the ups and downs they’ve overcame because they teach a lot of practical lessons that you can avoid on your personal endeavors. Alla prossima edizione di Spettacolo Stasera!Dialog: EnglishAt the Hospital Eric: Antonella, are you there?Antonella: Yes, Eric, here I am! Dear listeners, welcome back! I'm sorry to have to tell you, but we're here at La Fenice Hospital, where Doctor Balanzone was brought following his accident. Ah yes, he fell right in front of the movie theatre where he was to attend the premiere of Arlecchino's new film...Mrs Balanzone: Ah, my beloved Balanzone!Antonella: We're talking to Mrs Balanzone. Soon we hope to have some news from the physician.Eric: And how is Mrs Balanzone?Antonella: Mrs Balanzone, may we ask you some questions?Mrs Balanzone: For the radio?Antonella: Yes, ma'am... Spettacolo Stasera... on the air on Radio Arlecchino.Mrs Balanzone: Why, certainly... Just a bit of a moment, please.Yes, go ahead.Antonella: We've heard that you and the Dottore had just returned from America when you arrived today in Venice for the premiere.Mrs Balanzone: That's right. We were in Texas to publicize the movie. Your listeners might know that some scenes were shot in Austin.Antonella: And what did you think of the Lone Star State?Mrs Balanzone: Oh, we loved it! And of course Texas cuisine captivated the Dottore. With Pantalone and What-a-Pleasure they've signed a contract to add the Arlecchino Meal to their menu of 'cheerful meals' for children. With each little Pleasure Burger an Arlecchino figure or an Arlecchina doll.Antonella: Oh, I really like this one of Arlecchina, it's so sweet...Mrs Balanzone: The Dottore brought these Arlecchino meals along to eat during the intermission of the movie... I don't like them as much as my husband does... May I offer you one?Antonella: Thank you, I really would like to try one, perhaps after the broadcast. Any other memorable moments aside from the marketing?Mrs Balanzone: Oh yes, the most wonderful thing was learning to square dance. You can't imagine how exciting! Few people know this, but the Dottore is really quite a fine dancer!Antonella: Who would have guessed...?Mrs Balanzone: Nobody! But now with the movie... Oh, I can't resist the temptation to reveal this secret any longer! The key scene in Arlecchino's movie is in fact a dance! I just know you'll like seeing how the Dottore and I win the West with our square dance!Antonella: We can't wait--Dr Ibbardi: Good evening, ladies. I'm Dr Ibbardi. Which of you is Mrs Balanzone?Mrs Balanzone: Oh, doctor! It's me! How is my husband?Dr Ibbardi: Unfortunately the situation is rather serious and it doesn't please me at all.Mrs Balanzone: Goodness gracious!Dr Ibbardi: When your husband slipped on the red carpet and fell, he suffered a serious injury to his dignity.Antonella: So, the diagnosis, Doctor?Dr Ibbardi: Gluteus addoloratus!Mrs Balanzone: And the prognosis, Doctor?Dr Ibbardi: We've given him a sedative. Before he fell asleep, though, he said something I didn't understand... that he would like for us to bring him an Arlecchino Meal.Mrs Balanzone: Poor thing!Dr Ibbardi: and tomorrow we will begin a long and very costly series of treatments and physical therapies.Mrs Balanzone: Oh, but these treatments, these physical therapies... will they cause the poor Doctor a great deal of discomfort?Dr Ibbardi: Don't worry, ma'am. I've administered them many times now during my career and I've grown accustomed to them. They won't hurt me at all, I assure you.Mrs Balanzone: Well, actually, Doctor, I meant --Eric: Thanks a million, Antonella! We must now return to the studio! Thanks also to our gentle listeners! We'll talk to you again on the next edition of Spettacolo Stasera!
