Welcome here everyone wherever you might be located, and thanks for listening! Today is our weekly solo show of the week where we focus on a specific topic that I am seeing around the subscription box industry. And today's episode comes from a TSBS first. Earlier this week, I had the pleasure to host in our Facebook Group, our first live broadcast! I had none other than the founder of Subscription Box Experts Academy, Liam Brennan. We had a live Q & A on your questions and concerns regarding his brand new revamped program. It was a lot of fun, but I apologize in advance for the audio. We did have technical difficulties so the audio wasn't coming from my usual set up. But the content is gold nonetheless. Behind the scenes glimpse of what this event is and why I created it. On today’s episode Russell talks about the upcoming Unlock the Secrets event and why he has decided to make it his flagship event. Here are some of the interesting things in this episode: What a flagship event is and how it’s different than Funnel Hacking Live. What kind of event it will be, and who gets to come to it, and why it can’t just be Russell standing up and speaking for 3 days. And hear what one of the modules from the event will be like. So listen here to find out what Russell’s new flagship event will be like, and how it’s different than events he’s done in the past. ---Transcript--- What’s up everybody? This is Russell Brunson. Welcome back to the Marketing Secrets podcast. For you it’s probably a new day but I’m still driving to pick up Dave from the airport and I want to share with you guys behind the scenes of how I’m planning and preparing for the unlock the secrets event. Alright everybody, so I’m heading to the airport. The Tesla’s so quiet, I’ve been doing a podcast now and my sound quality has probably gone up a million times. It always makes me laugh, people are like, “Russell, what kind of microphone do you have to do your podcast on?” I’m like, “I literally have my iphone in my hand, I’ve got a pop socket behind it, I hold it in my fingers and I keep it the same distance from my mouth and I just talk.” So I’m not worried about audio quality. I just want to make sure I give you guys cool stuff. And you know, now that I’m in a Tesla the audio quality has probably gone up a little bit, so I’m pumped about that for you guys. Anyway, oh crap, I’m going to miss my freeway entrance because I’m hanging out with you guys. Alright I made it. Good thing the Tesla’s so stealthy I can swerve in and out of people. Just kidding. Anyway, so today what I want to talk to you guys about, because I get a lot of questions about this, people asking me. We have an event coming up this year, and it’s funny because I’m going to share this part of it, because this may inspire some of you guys to do something similar. If you look at, I’ve always had this problem where I hate teaching the same thing twice. That’s why when we launched Clickfunnels and I was like, “I’m going to do the same webinar live every week for the next year.” And I ended up doing it five or six times a week the first two or three months. It’s like, “If I say these words again, I’m going to kill myself. I’m bored of them.” But it obviously worked right, which is why I encourage all of you guys to do that. But I also have the same thing with events. I used to do events here in Boise and people would come into them, and I’d teach the event and it was amazing. Then the next time we’d do the event people would come and it’d be a different group of people coming in and I’d teach a whole new event. People always asked me, “Why are you teaching a new event.” I’m like, “I just hate teaching the same thing twice.” By the way, that is stupid of me. I’m just going to preface that now, that I’m wrong. Just so you’re not like, “Yeah, that’s how I feel too, Russell.” Because if you think that, you’re wrong too. We’re both wrong. Anyway, so for years I kind of thought that. And then when we finally decided to start doing events again, Funnel Hacking Live was the event. And I love Funnel Hacking Live, and you all should go to it, it’s like our…I love it. It’s fun. And it is, again, it’s an event where I have a chance every single year to create. I usually do four or five presentations I create from scratch that are brand new, stuff I never shared before. So I have this really fun ability to kind of get my need of creation and new things and all that kind of stuff. So I do that every year and I love it, and we have other speakers come in and it’s really, really cool. But anyway, about a year ago I was hanging out with Brendon Burchard and we were talking about events and stuff and he was talking about, he does two big events a year. I think he might be changing the names of them, but one of them is called Experts academy, and the other one’s called High Performance Habits. And he was making fun of me because he’s like, “Yeah, when I do my events I’m on stage all day every day, for like four days. It’s just me talking.” And I was like, “Why do you do that? Bring in other people.’ And he told me, he said, ‘If you think about Tony Robbins, what was it 30-50 years ago, I don’t know whatever it was, Tony took all his material and he sat down and he created an event that was called Unleash the Power within, and that became his flagship event.” And he’s taught it like four times a year for the last 30 years. He knows it word for word, and things may tweak here and there a little bit, but for the most part it’s the same event. He created this event that would fulfill all these things and then he produced it. And that’s why it’s so amazing because it gets better and better because he’s done it so many times. And then, I don’t know, ten years later as he was doing one of his geek out sessions he figured out this whole new event that he wanted to do. And I remember he talked about this at Date with Destiny and he spent a whole week or something, wrote the whole event, and then he brought a whole bunch of people in the room and did the event for people, and it was the very first date with destiny event. And then that became the secondary event. And that was created, what 25 years ago? Whatever it was, and he’s been doing it twice a year for the last 25 years. And Brendon said, you know when he got into his business, it wasn’t about doing a new event every single year, it was about, “I’m going to create an event, and that event happens all the time.” And so for his, I think the first one was the Experts Academy, he’s done it every year for however many, a decade now, and then he created the high performance academy one a couple of yuears ago now, and that’s his flagship program that he does every single year. And when he’s telling me this, I’m like, Well, I want my own flagship course, that’s just me teaching.” And I was kind of bummed out because I didn’t have one. And I was like, I don’t even know how to fit it in, or where I would fit it in, or how it work? And anyway, we were planning the Two comma Club coaching program for this year, I thought what if I did an event that was just for that group and it becomes my flagship program? And then I was like, wouldn’t it be cool if it wasn’t just the parents got to come, but they were able to bring their children as well, their kids. But not super young kids, but 12-18 year old kids, bring them as well. And I could do this event, but in a really cool way that’s different. You know, because I could stand up and I could teach for three days and I’ll be awesome and I think people would love it, but if I can do it in a way where it’s interactive enough to stimulate the adults and give them what they need, but entertaining enough and broken down to a level that would be so powerful that the kids can grasp it as well, and make it a family experience, that’s the goal. And I was nervous about it, but then you know, in the last, man it’s crazy, in the last few years, we’ve got tons of kids now making so much money inside of Clickfunnels. We’ve got teenagers who have hit two comma club, we’ve got a whole bunch of other stuff. It’s really powerful seeing that. I’m like, man, teenagers, it’s not like in the future we’re going to do this thing. Teenagers are here now, they’re having success now, we might as well come and cater to them and serve them and help them to understand and be on the forefront of all that. So we decided to that this year. So this year is our very first one. I think we have about 6 or 700 people registered. I think 250 of those are youth, which I’m pumped about. So this event’s happening. And we plan the event, get everyone signed up for it, then I start freaking out, like oh my gosh, I gotta make sure this is good. And then my kids are coming as well, so now I gotta really make sure it’s good so my kids get it. But then it’s like all my inner circle members and a whole bunch of the two comma club coaching students, my top level clients, I gotta make it stimulating and awesome for them too. So now I’m all stressed out. And by the way, I’m also writing a book during this period of time, as well as running Clickfunnels and taking care of my kids during the summer. So there’s a few things, but I’m really excited for it. Hopefully this will become my flagship that I do once a year for all my two comma club coaching students, and that just becomes like a thing we do. And that’s kind of the vision and the game plan. Anyway, that’s kind of why I’m doing it. So the question then is, how do we prepare for it? Well, for me it’s been interesting because I’m trying to not just be me onstage speaking. A lot of events are that way, I’m like, I want it four or five levels deep. So what we’re doing, and this is just, I’ll just give you an example of just one module because it’s a snapshot and hopefully it will give you guys ideas for your own thing. But what we’re doing basically is I’m teaching the strategy right. So one of the modules which will be probably half a day, is going through these different core funnels inside of a value ladder. There’s a handful of core funnels. So I’ll be teaching the strategy of each one, that’s number one. Then number two, I’ll be giving a swipe file. Like here’s 40 of those types of funnels that other people have done that you can look at and be like, “Oh, that’s what he’s talking about. I see how it works here and here and here.” You see them over and over and over again. So they get the swipe file. Number three they get the share funneling. So it’s like, now you’ve seen it here’s the link. You click on it, and then the framework is built for you and you can come in there and you can just replace things and make it all pretty and nice for yourself. That’s the third phase. And then number four is, we’ve partnered with someone who’s really good at making Trello boards, they make some of the most intense, insane trello boards. So for each of these funnels we have these insane, intense, amazing step by step by step trello boards that go with it to make sure you get every single step in the process right, to execute one of these funnels. Then on top of that, is every single step inside the checklist we’re going through and making videos, so if someone gets stuck like, I can’t figure out this step, there will be a video for every single step they can watch and be like, ‘Oh, that’s what I gotta do. It’s super simple.” I got a 30 second to a couple minute video, depending on the task, that shows it. So now it’s not just me teaching conceptually a concept, it’s like I teach it and then I show it to you, and then I give it to you, and then we help you to implement it, and it’s like all these different levels deep. And then after the event, we’re going to have our coaches doing these hack a thons where they get on and it’s like anyone who wants to build that funnel jumps on, and everybody builds the funnel together. And no member gets left behind. There’s always people behind helping to, let’s say I can’t figure out how to get my domain purchased. The way we do these hack a thons are really cool. It’s like, okay, everyone get on this right now, and they’re usually smaller groups like 30-40 people. “Everyone go buy your domain right now. Did everyone get it? If you didn’t get it…” and three people got stuck so it’s like, “Okay, here’s the coach. Go offline with the coach real quick and he’ll help.” They go offline, the coach gets it done, they jump back in the group. “Okay, everyone’s got the domain now. Now step number two is do this.” And we go step by step by step until everybody has got it done. And over the course 7 or 8 hours the funnel is done, it’s beautiful, it’s ready to rock and roll. So you see how we’re layering all these different levels and it’s just for that one module, but it’s how we’re trying to really make this so that this program is simple, it’s powerful, it’s useful and it’ll be the most amazing thing ever created on this planet. Anyway, that’s the game plan, and that’s what we’re doing inside the unlock the secrets event. I’m excited for all my two comma club x’ers and all my inner circle members. I’m excited to see you guys there. And if you haven’t got your tickets yet, go and get them. We should have about a thousand people at it, I think when all is said and done. We’re a little less than two months away, and I’m sure we’re going to talk more about it, but that’s the reason behind it. This is going to become my flagship, just like Tony’s got UPW or Date with Destiny. And Brendon’s got his, this is now mine. It’s called unlock the secrets and it goes through the Dotcom, Expert, and Traffic Secrets books. And I’m pumped for it. Anyway, that’s kind of the game plan. I hope that helps. I’m at the airport now. I’m go grab Dave. Appreciate you all, thanks for listening, and I’ll talk to you guys all again soon. Bye everybody.

In this episode I deal with one of the entrepreneurs greatest enemies: Caring too much about other peoples opinions. Heck...I would even venture to say that every human being must deal with this formidable imposter on an almost daily basis. This excerpt is taken from my keynote speech at my good friend Brendon Burchard's amazing event Experts Academy. I hope sharing my battle scars on this topic gives you strength and understanding to fight your own battle. Thanks Brendon for letting me use this audio clip!

So a couple of weeks ago I was having my third quarter of self-employment crisis of confidence. It seems like I’ve had one of these every quarter, and as I’m coming to understand, this is a pretty normal thing on the entrepreneurial journey. Or as my business coach Vicki Fitch calls in, it’s just one roller coaster in the Entrepreneurial Theme park. This time it wasn’t all about money, it was about feeling physically burnt out and mentally exhausted, getting sick, forcing myself to stop working and then and not being sure how I could keep up the pace at which I’d been going. And as these things mysteriously happen, the right book at the right time came through for me. It’s called High-Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard. I’ll link up to the book and Brendon’s website in the show notes. Brendon Burchard is someone that I learned from very, very early on in my side hustle journey when I was trying to figure out how to transition from being a web designer one on one to be able to teach solopreneurs, side hustlers, and small businesses how to DIY on a one to many scale. He had this training video series called the Experts Academy and it was all about how to monetize and package your expertise online, and it definitely influenced what I created when I built the 5 Day Website Challenge. It was the right thing at the right time, and then I kinda stopped paying attention to him. You know, shiny object syndrome

A bunch of the cool stuff I got from my day with Brendon Burchard. On today’s special Marketing From An Airplane, Russell talks about a meeting he had with Brendon Burchard and why he is taking a private jet back home to Boise. Here are some of the cool things you will get to hear in this episode: What cool ninja tricks Russell learned from Brendon and what ninja tricks Russell was able to give to him. How Brendon is able to take 17 weeks of vacation a year and why Russell wants to be able to do something similar. And the different approaches Russell and Brendon have when it comes to people recognizing them in public. So listen below to hear about the awesome things Russell learned from Brendon and find out why you should never use the bathroom on a private jet. ---Transcript--- Hey everyone, this is Russell Brunson. I want to welcome you guys to, actually Marketing in Your Airplane. Hopefully you guys can hear me, it’s kind of loud in here. I’m literally in my own private airplane right now. Let me tell you the back story. So earlier yesterday, actually it goes back a couple of weeks ago. A couple of weeks ago I went to a Mastermind meeting at Dean Graziosi’s office and a bunch of cool people were there. And one of the cool people was Brendon Burchard. Brendon and I met probably ten years ago. I always respected him, and we kind of talked a few times, but we never really got to know each other. That was the first mastermind we sat together for the whole day. Towards the end I was just like, man, if you look at our industry and then the personal development industry, we’re on the outside obviously because there’s no other options but in our world, me and him are definitely have the biggest companies. We never hung out, we never shared notes or talked about what worked or what didn’t work, things like that. So I messaged him a couple days later, “Hey, we should get together and just hang out, and share notes on what we’re both doing and hopefully get some ideas.” And he was like, he gave me three days, “I got this day and this day and this day.” In different parts of the country, and I was like, “Vegas sounds perfect.” because it’s an easy flight out of Boise. So I booked the thing and then yesterday morning I woke up at 4 o’clock in the morning, flew out to hang out with him. We hung out all day and then I’ll talk about what we talked about here in a minute. But then at the end of the day I get a message from Melanie, my assistant, actually voxed me and said, “Your flight got delayed, and it was a connecting flight, so that one you’re going to miss. I’m trying to find another flight, everything direct is sold out.” And all sorts of stuff. She couldn’t get me out that day. And then Brendon is like, “Oh don’t worry man. I’ll take care of you.” I’m like, “What’s that mean?” He’s like, “Hold on.” And he called a couple of numbers and he’s like, “Okay, there’s a jet picking you up in the morning and they’ll fly you back to Boise.” I’m like, “are you kidding me?” Dang, look at that. Oh you guys can’t see it. I’m looking out the window and there’s a jet flying past this jet. There’s jet streams. What? That was cool. Anyway, he’s got an account with JetSuite. He just called them up and then they flew to Vegas, and they picked me up this morning and now we’re flying back to Boise. And I’m literally the only person on this plane. There’s 4 seats, 2 pilots. And it’s the coolest thing in the world. Also, by the way, we’re starting a vlog, so I’m recording this, so if you guys in the future can see our vlog, it’ll be episode three and we’ll show the whole story. Behind the scenes, show you the flight, if you guys want to see the visuals. You should probably see what I just saw, that’s where you go to check it out. Anyway, so that’s what’s happening right now. I’m flying back home and again, I was trying to fly in the morning and out at night, so I could get back home for Ellie’s soccer game tomorrow, but I missed it unfortunately. Instead I’m flying in a private plane home, which is insane. So I’m doing that right now. So while I’m flying home I’ve been kind of taking notes on the cool stuff that Brendon and I talked about. And I obviously can’t share with you, something I just can’t share because they were things he shared with me in confidence. But there are some things I definitely can share. The number one cool thing, is this cool thing called JetSuite, which is the thing I’m on right now, literally. They pick you up, they fly you, they….I don’t know if it’s possible to get in Boise, but it’s definitely, at first gotta figure out. Honestly I walked right up, jumped in a plane. There’s no waiting and it’s funny because I bill my time, if someone wants to hire me for an hour, I don’t even know what it would be right now. Last time I did, it was 5 grand an hour. Since then I’ve had like five people try to do it, and I turned it down because I didn’t have time for it. Let’s just say it’s 5 grand an hour. So I saved an hour being in airports. Probably two if you look at landing and coming. So that’s two hours. That’s 10 grand right there I just saved. And then on the flight, there’s wifi, there’s nobody here coughing on me, or sneezing on me. If I had business partners, and my wife and kids, I could get some cool connection time on the plane as opposed to sitting in a normal plane cramped and miserable. So that right there is awesome. So I’m going to be looking for that. Let’s see, another thing, what’s interesting is Brendon and I were talking, we have different super powers that are different. I think what I’m really good at is building out amazing front end funnels that are profitable from day one. I look at every one of the funnels that we built, especially free plus shipping funnels, all those ones are optimally designed so that when we put a dollar into advertizing, it puts $50 back out immediately into sales. You guys have seen us talk about that, all our break even funnels and stuff like that. I’m really good at that. And then I look at Brendon, and Brendon’s not quite as good at the front end funnels, but what he’s really good at, when someone comes into his funnels, for the next 400 days there’s a sequence he goes through and takes them through the 16 or whatever different courses he sells, he pushes people to different events, everything. He does 9 events a year and never promotes any of them outside of the follow up sequence that happens. He brings someone in the funnel and then the sequence goes for 400+ days, fills 9 events a year. So with all the info products, all the courses, I’m not really looking to share his revenue, but you know, well over 8 figures, multiple 8 figures in this process. So for him, he’s got these front end funnels that aren’t profitable up front. He drives insane amounts of traffic, and by day 60 he breaks even. It takes 60 days to break even and he knows that. So because of that he goes and spends tons of money of Facebook ads, YouTube ads and radio, those are his three big traffic sources right now, which is cool. I’m going to try radio with my book, which I cannot even wait to do. And then I look at my business, I’m really good at break even, being profitable right out of the gate, but my long term funnels aren’t that long. I think it’s because, and I talked about this with the inner circle members. I think I had a podcast that talked about this too. But my creativity in our business for a long time was creating new offers, new businesses. That made 3 or 4 million dollars a year, and then we transitioned into having one focus, Clickfunnels, and created offers to get people into Clickfunnels. We went from 3 million to 30 million. Then my goal to go from 30 to 100 is focusing on new traffic sources. And I look at Brendon, that’s what he’s done. He has these funnels and he’s focusing on traffic sources that he can bring in and then they break even after, hopefully within 60 days of bringing people in. So that’s been kind of my biggest takeaway, is that. He does typically someone comes in his funnel and there’ll be two or three weeks promoting one of his courses, and then he’ll have a two week buffer time. Which is two weeks of him sending amazing videos that tell stories, build relationships and doesn’t sell anything. Then after two weeks of buffer, he sends people back into another two or three week period where he’s selling the next course. Then he’s got a two week buffer. Back and forth for 400 and something days, which is insanely cool. And I think that my problem, why I haven’t done that in the past is because I’m so excited about the new offer I’m creating all the time, I don’t want people in the long sequences, and I don’t know how to promote the next offer. And he was like, “Why do you keep creating offers.” He’s like, “That’s my problem, I have 16 courses. Why don’t you stop creating courses, and just plug them into this sequence and then you can just focus on driving traffic. That becomes your focal point.” And the interesting thing about traffic, traffic is the one part of my business that doesn’t require me, which is interesting. The funnel part requires me, because it’s all my creativity, my voice, my videos, but on traffic, it’s like I can step back, and it’s John on my team and his team underneath him who drive the ads, that becomes the focal point. And it’s interesting because I love and I get so good at creating lots of funnels over and over again that I spend insane amounts of time, way too much time. Brendon told me, I think he takes, I think he said, 17 weeks off a year. I think that’s what he said. 17! 17 weeks. That’s like 4 months, that’s more than 4 months. Over 4 months a year he takes off. I can’t do that, I don’t do that. I’m always in hustle mode, and I think that’s because I’m always creating the next funnels, push all the ads into that funnel and sell it as opposed to all these amazing funnels we’ve created and just put them into a killer, long sequence and then focus on the traffic. Which even the traffic part does not take my whole time. That was the big takeaway for me, that was the huge aha. So I just kind of look at Brendon, imagine if you took your funnels, you broke even, you 3x’d on day one like we do with all of our funnels. Then instead of break even on day 60 you tripled on day one, and then from there you kept doing what you’re doing. So he was excited about that. I was showing him all our ninja hacks to 3x on day one. And he was showing all the ninja hacks where he can basically not work, because he’s got all the courses lined up sequentially. And it’s interesting, the logical sequential order of things, I always thought that Experts Academy was his biggest business, but it’s not. In fact, High Performance Academy is his thing, his biggest, that’s his mission, that’s his “date with destiny”. Tony Robbins has Date with Destiny, which is his pinnacle. For him High Performance Academy is his pinnacle event he’s trying to get people to. And so all of his funnels are focused on getting people, he has no sales people, no nothing. He also has a 30 thousand a year mastermind and a 60 thousand dollar a year mastermind, and a 250 thousand dollar a year, and all those masterminds he doesn’t have any sales people to sell them. They all just come through funnels, which is insane. I’m like, “But with a sales person it’s really easy, it converts just as many people.” He’s like, “yeah, I don’t worry about that. I just put it out there and some people buy. I just jam enough traffic into it that if one out of every 10 thousand people buy, it all works.” I’m like, “Crazy.” It’s fun to see this whole business through a different lens than my own, which is really cool. So that was one of my biggest takeaways. So for you guys, if you’re all like me and you work too hard, I think that’s the key. Quit creating tons of new funnels, which I know we all love, it’s so exciting. But focus on, it comes back to follow up funnels, action funnels, like we talked about at Funnel Hacking Live. It’s interesting, I think I did a presentation in December that showed how every dollar made in our break even funnels made $60.73 in our follow up funnels. That was with it in a short, 30 day follow up window, as opposed to what Brendon’s doing where it’s like 400 days. So anyway, that’s something that I was literally sketching out in my notes from on my private plane. So crazy. On the plane, trying to figure out how I’m going to do that and what is the sequential order of my products. If someone comes in, my first thing I want to have is Expert Secrets, from there Dotcom Secrets, from there what is the sequential order? What’s the pieces they need and the order they need them? How can I do it the cool way where I spend a couple of weeks getting people into the program, a couple of weeks telling stories, building value to now they love us, and a couple of weeks transitioning back and forth, back and forth. I think my biggest fear when I look at this is how am I going to create 400 days follow up sequence? And I look at Brendon and he didn’t do a 400 day follow up sequence. He would build one and then another one. I think what I’m going to do is, here’s my thought, and I may change it, but I’ll share with you guys and maybe it’ll give you guys some ideas on your own. I’m going to spend the next 30 days building out a 30 day follow up funnel. So if someone buys the book or anything, whatever they buy, what’s the first thing I want to introduce them to? They buy the book and the book is the initial sequence or whatever. Then all those people, from all my front end offers, so I’m looking at I think 10 or 11 front end offers to bring people into it, all my break even funnels that I love. So I have a break even funnel, they go to the initial sequence there, after they do then we dump them from there into, and I’ll probably call to action funnel and call it the first 30 days, and then the first 30 days will be like, here’s the process for the first 30 days. Our number one goal for the first 30 days is to get them to buy Clickfunnels. So boom, I’ll take them through the sequence process and they’ll buy Clickfunnels, they’ll watch the webinar, we’ll indoctrinate and tell stories and all that kind of stuff. From there, we’ll share a bunch of content, maybe some Funnel Hacking Live videos to give value. Then number two, now we got that. What’s the next thing we want to take? So then I’ll probably call it the second 30 days and then the third 30 days. I’ll probably create an action funnel for each one. And at the end of the first 30 days after I build that second 30 days, I’ll go back to the end of the first 30 days and I’ll add in a step in the action sequence that says, “When they finish day 30 move them to the second 30 day sequence.” Then everyone will be past that, then it will be automatically into the second sequence and that way I can just build out 30 days at a time and not stress out about how I’m going to build 400 days. No I’m just going to build 30 days at a time. And then everyone that buys will be dumped in the first 30 days, here’s the sequence they go through. Everyone will go through the same sequence, same everything. Then at the end of that I’ll start building the next 30 days. Whenever I get it done, then I’ll dump all leads into the second 30 days and then I’ll hook it up so that everyone new coming in past day 30 si on the automatically shifted to the next action funnel. So it could be kind of cool. So maybe after I do this, this is actually a cool product. That reminded me of something else. Okay, this might be a cool product I do. After I get the first 365, here’s the first 365 day follow up sequence, I may just want to buy that book. Here’s every email for the first 365 days when someone comes into our funnels. So maybe I’ll do that. Yeah, that’d be a cool product. So in a year, I’ll sell that to you guys if you want it. Yeah, that’d be kind of cool. So this is a cool thing I got from Brendon, which is crazy. This is a couple of years ago, he did his, I can’t remember which course, Expert Academy, one of his products. He ended up selling 2500 of them at $2 grand a piece. A lot of money. Bu then afterwards he was like, “What do I do with all these people?” he was so proud of all the videos and email sequences and all the stuff he had built, so what he did was he took all of the prelaunch videos and burned them on a dvd and then got them all transcribed and then he took all the email swipe files, all that kind of stuff, got them all transcribed, put them in this big book and then he sold, I think for $97 you get the DVD, then the transcripts of the campaign. So anyway, so he sold for $97. From that he sold over 60 thousand copies, 600 grand, 60 thousand copies at $97 a piece of the marketing material for people to see and model, which is crazy. Insanely crazy. In fact, oh my gosh I got an idea. I’ve got Funnel Hacker Swipe file.com, what if I did that with every campaign we did, start selling the swipe files? That’s interesting. Maybe I do it inside of funnel u? I don’t know, just gives me ideas. But it made an extra $600 grand after just selling the prelaunch materials to the same audience. 3 times bought the marketing material as people who bought the actual product. It’s crazy that people buy the product, the $97 thing he still sells at events everywhere else, people buy that and go through all his marketing material, and then they go back and buy his thousand dollar product now because they want it. It’s kind of like what Frank Kern does. If you look at Frank Kern business funnel, he creates a product then launches it and after he sells him showing you what he did on that funnel and that’s it. Its like swipe files. Here’s the campaign plus the swipe files and it’s insanely cool. Anywho, so much cool stuff. Alright, a couple of other cool things I learned from him. He’s obviously, he’s done two products with Oprah, so one of the interesting things he does with every one of his funnels, he has to make sure it’s Oprah proof. Oprah and her people literally go through all his funnels and it has to be clean enough that it’s Oprah proof. I started thinking about that, are my funnels Oprah proof? Where someone like Oprah came through would they be offended, would they not like it or whatever? Oprah’s obviously not someone I’m going after, but who is the person I’m going after? Who are the people that I want to make sure….thinking about that, is the copy and positioning and all the stuff in your funnel, who is the dream person you want to go after? Would it pass their inspection and be like, this is cool and not scammy or spammy. In fact, I went to one of my funnels the other day and some weird email came out and I was like, “Ugh.” I remember I hired this guy to write emails and he wrote that email and I’m like, it’s not congruent with me or what I say. So it’s something to think about. The other cool thing he showed me how to do with YouTube ads. So the thing with YouTube ads, there’s a YouTube ad that will be a video of him sharing 3 tips from his book and it pushes people to the book. And the people who watch that will be targeted to watch video number two, which has 3 more tips, and then push the book and then he targets those people to go to video number 3 which is now a recap, “Here’s the 6 tips I talked about before” and pushes them back to the book. And then if they haven’t bought the book after the 3 videos, then he puts them on a “Do not solicit” list. If they haven’t bought from three videos, they will never buy and they have no hope. And you should never follow them or show them ads again. He puts them on a do not solicit list, which is kind of cool. Kind of a cool strategy as well. What else, what else? So many cool things. I hope that gives you guys some cool stuff. It was legit amazing, and now I’m sitting in a jet. I have a new love and respect for Brendon. I always said he was cool, but I just didn’t know him or understand him and I think that I had kind of a misconception of him sometimes because, and it was interesting because I always thought he , in his mind he was kind of like me, he sees himself as a marketing dude, teaches marketing stuff. And as I talked to him, it’s completely opposite, he thinks of himself as first off an author, and then his goal, his whole dream in life is personal development and high performance, things like that. In fact, his next book is called something about high performance as well. He spent two years with a whole research team creating insane stuff, building a test that measures high performance, that’s his huge passion. And he’s like, “I always teach the marketing stuff, you teach marketing better than me. Frank Kern teaches marketing better than me. I’m not the best marketing teacher but you’re all my people who come through all my high performance stuff that want to know how I build this company. So I do Expert Academy once a year just to be like, ‘here’s how I do it. I’m not the best but here’s what I do.’ And it’s become a big thing, but it’s not my focus or main thing. I don’t promote it, I don’t have any front end support. The only way people even know about Expert Academy is on day 200 of the funnel he introduces it to people.” I was like, that’s really fascinating and interesting. Anyway, I thought that was really, really cool. That’s what I got. So that’s all I wanted to share with you guys I think today. So I’m going to be, I don’t know when I’m landing, but I’m going to keep taking notes and map this thing out. You guys will probably see the fruits of this. My goal, my big takeaways from this whole meeting is to be able to take my amazing funnels and build out an amazing sequence that extends for a long time and putting everything in sequential order and things like that. That’s my number one goal. And my number two goal to that is from that be able to take more time off. He said he takes 17 weeks off in a year. I don’t know if I could do that, I think I would stress out. Plus, he doesn’t have kids and stuff like that. So he and his wife are able to be like, “Hey lets go to Bali this week.” Or “Hey, let’s go over here.” So they book out, they plan out each month where they’re going and its crazy. I can’t do that, because my kids have school and all these things. But maybe I could be like I’m going to take Friday off, or what if I came home every day at 3 when my kids got home, or what if I did stuff like once a quarter took a weekend with my wife, or whatever those things are. So I’m going to start playing with that. That was really inspiring for me. Oh the other cool thing I got from it. I did a podcast the other day how twice in Boise that day I had people come up to me, “Hey Russell.” And ask me questions about me and caught me off guard and I didn’t know how to handle it. It was cool, we were sitting there eating lunch and some guy ran up, “Russell Brunson, I’m a funnel hacker.” And it was kind of awkward for me, and I didn’t really say anything and the guy laughed and an hour later Brendon and I were walking and some guy ran up to Brendon like, “Dude! You’re Brendon Burchard!” It was kind of cool, we both had it happen to us while we were hanging out. He handled it so much better than I did. It was so cool to see. I was just like, dang. Now I……it wsa cool to see that because he didn’t do what I do. Act like an idiot. He turned around and was like, legitimately excited, “You know who I am? How do you know about my work?” and the guy was like, he wanted to tell him, it was cool Brendon told me he learned that from Paula Abdul. That’s what Paula Abdul did. First off act all excited like, “Whoa.” Then ask them “how do you know my work? How do you know what I do.” And then they’ll be excited to tell the story of how they know you. He’s also good at, my biggest problem is I think I fear the conversation with people because I don’t know how to end it. I get stuck in these awkward situations and I run away. So what he does is really cool. He asks them that question and then he starts turning his body like I gotta keep going, “That’s really cool. Okay, well we’re in a rush, we have to go but thank you so much for being a follower and a fan. Just so grateful for that.” And something like that. And then we’re able to break away and leave. I even told him after, “Dude, that was so good for me to see. Because I don’t know how to handle it. I don’t know how to take that kind of stuff. I’m not used to that. It just freaks me out and I look like an idiot. That way you handled it was super cool and it was fun to see that in a live version.” So that was pretty cool to see as well. Anyway, that was the weekend, it was amazing. Now I’m sitting on a private jet and this is crazy. Only weird thing about it is if you look behind me, there’s a little toilet seat, and there’s a little curtain. Luckily I don’t have to go to the bathroom, but if I did that would be the only thing about private jets that’s not cool. There’s not a real bathroom. It’s like one of these seats you lift up the lid and there’s the potty, pooper, whatever you want to call it, the toilet, the crapper, whatever you want to call it. There’s the little curtain that you pull halfway over. And I guarantee it’d stink this place up and the pilots would kill me. I’m grateful I don’t have to go to the bathroom. Other than that, private planes are cool. Note to self, take one and make sure you go before you go. There’s the practical advice. What’d you learn from Marketing In Your Car? I learned if you ever fly in a private plane, you go to the bathroom before you get on otherwise you stink out the pilots and they’ll hate you. Oh man. Anyway, alright guys. Appreciate you, I can’t wait to get going with some of this stuff. Hopefully you guys got some cool lessons today like I did. Thank you Brendon, if you’re listening to this, for taking the day with me. That was the real cool thing, he was in the middle of editing his book, he still took the whole day and he was so present and relaxed and if it was me, I’d be stressed out the whole entire time. Just coming back to he has his life structured to be able to handle this type of stuff and it was really impressive and cool to see. Anyway, I got a ton from it, hopefully you got something as well from listening in. Appreciate you all and I’ll talk to again when we get back on solid ground. Bye.
A bunch of the cool stuff I got from my day with Brendon Burchard. On today's special Marketing From An Airplane, Russell talks about a meeting he had with Brendon Burchard and why he is taking a private jet back home to Boise. Hopefully you guys can hear me, it's kind of loud in here. I'm literally in my own private airplane right now. Let me tell you the back story. So earlier yesterday, actually it goes back a couple of weeks ago. A couple of weeks ago I went to a Mastermind meeting at Dean Graziosi's office and a bunch of cool people were there. And one of the cool people was Brendon Burchard. Brendon and I met probably ten years ago. I always respected him, and we kind of talked a few times, but we never really got to know each other. That was the first mastermind we sat together for the whole day. Towards the end I was just like, man, if you look at our industry and then the personal development industry, we're on the outside obviously because there's no other options but in our world, me and him are definitely have the biggest companies. We never hung out, we never shared notes or talked about what worked or what didn't work, things like that. So I messaged him a couple days later, “Hey, we should get together and just hang out, and share notes on what we're both doing and hopefully get some ideas.” And he was like, he gave me three days, “I got this day and this day and this day.” In different parts of the country, and I was like, “Vegas sounds perfect.” because it's an easy flight out of Boise. So I booked the thing and then yesterday morning I woke up at 4 o'clock in the morning, flew out to hang out with him. We hung out all day and then I'll talk about what we talked about here in a minute. But then at the end of the day I get a message from Melanie, my assistant, actually voxed me and said, “Your flight got delayed, and it was a connecting flight, so that one you're going to miss. I'm trying to find another flight, everything direct is sold out.” And all sorts of stuff. She couldn't get me out that day. And then Brendon is like, “Oh don't worry man. I'll take care of you.” I'm like, “What's that mean?” He's like, “Hold on.” And he called a couple of numbers and he's like, “Okay, there's a jet picking you up in the morning and they'll fly you back to Boise.” I'm like, “are you kidding me?” Dang, look at that. Oh you guys can't see it. I'm looking out the window and there's a jet flying past this jet. There's jet streams. What? That was cool. Anyway, he's got an account with JetSuite. He just called them up and then they flew to Vegas, and they picked me up this morning and now we're flying back to Boise. And I'm literally the only person on this plane. There's 4 seats, 2 pilots. And it's the coolest thing in the world. Also, by the way, we're starting a vlog, so I'm recording this, so if you guys in the future can see our vlog, it'll be episode three and we'll show the whole story. Behind the scenes, show you the flight, if you guys want to see the visuals. You should probably see what I just saw, that's where you go to check it out. Anyway, so that's what's happening right now. I'm flying back home and again, I was trying to fly in the morning and out at night, so I could get back home for Ellie's soccer game tomorrow, but I missed it unfortunately. Instead I'm flying in a private plane home, which is insane. So I'm doing that right now. So while I'm flying home I've been kind of taking notes on the cool stuff that Brendon and I talked about. And I obviously can't share with you, something I just can't share because they were things he shared with me in confidence. But there are some things I definitely can share. The number one cool thing, is this cool thing called JetSuite, which is the thing I'm on right now, literally. They pick you up, they fly you, they….I don't know if it's possible to get in Boise, but it's definitely, at first gotta figure out. Honestly I walked right up, jumped in a plane. There's no waiting and it's funny because I bill my time, if someone wants to hire me for an hour, I don't even know what it would be right now. Last time I did, it was 5 grand an hour. Since then I've had like five people try to do it, and I turned it down because I didn't have time for it. Let's just say it's 5 grand an hour. So I saved an hour being in airports. Probably two if you look at landing and coming. So that's two hours. That's 10 grand right there I just saved. And then on the flight, there's wifi, there's nobody here coughing on me, or sneezing on me. If I had business partners, and my wife and kids, I could get some cool connection time on the plane as opposed to sitting in a normal plane cramped and miserable. So that right there is awesome. So I'm going to be looking for that. Let's see, another thing, what's interesting is Brendon and I were talking, we have different super powers that are different. I think what I'm really good at is building out amazing front end funnels that are profitable from day one. I look at every one of the funnels that we built, especially free plus shipping funnels, all those ones are optimally designed so that when we put a dollar into advertizing, it puts $50 back out immediately into sales. You guys have seen us talk about that, all our break even funnels and stuff like that. I'm really good at that. And then I look at Brendon, and Brendon's not quite as good at the front end funnels, but what he's really good at, when someone comes into his funnels, for the next 400 days there's a sequence he goes through and takes them through the 16 or whatever different courses he sells, he pushes people to different events, everything. He does 9 events a year and never promotes any of them outside of the follow up sequence that happens. He brings someone in the funnel and then the sequence goes for 400+ days, fills 9 events a year. So with all the info products, all the courses, I'm not really looking to share his revenue, but you know, well over 8 figures, multiple 8 figures in this process. So for him, he's got these front end funnels that aren't profitable up front. He drives insane amounts of traffic, and by day 60 he breaks even. It takes 60 days to break even and he knows that. So because of that he goes and spends tons of money of Facebook ads, YouTube ads and radio, those are his three big traffic sources right now, which is cool. I'm going to try radio with my book, which I cannot even wait to do. And then I look at my business, I'm really good at break even, being profitable right out of the gate, but my long term funnels aren't that long. I think it's because, and I talked about this with the inner circle members. And I look at Brendon, that's what he's done. He has these funnels and he's focusing on traffic sources that he can bring in and then they break even after, hopefully within 60 days of bringing people in. So that's been kind of my biggest takeaway, is that. He does typically someone comes in his funnel and there'll be two or three weeks promoting one of his courses, and then he'll have a two week buffer time. Which is two weeks of him sending amazing videos that tell stories, build relationships and doesn't sell anything. Then after two weeks of buffer, he sends people back into another two or three week period where he's selling the next course. Then he's got a two week buffer. Back and forth for 400 and something days, which is insanely cool. And I think that my problem, why I haven't done that in the past is because I'm so excited about the new offer I'm creating all the time, I don't want people in the long sequences, and I don't know how to promote the next offer. And he was like, “Why do you keep creating offers.” He's like, “That's my problem, I have 16 courses. Why don't you stop creating courses, and just plug them into this sequence and then you can just focus on driving traffic. That becomes your focal point.” And the interesting thing about traffic, traffic is the one part of my business that doesn't require me, which is interesting. The funnel part requires me, because it's all my creativity, my voice, my videos, but on traffic, it's like I can step back, and it's John on my team and his team underneath him who drive the ads, that becomes the focal point. And it's interesting because I love and I get so good at creating lots of funnels over and over again that I spend insane amounts of time, way too much time. Brendon told me, I think he takes, I think he said, 17 weeks off a year. I think that's what he said. 17! 17 weeks. That's like 4 months, that's more than 4 months. Over 4 months a year he takes off. I can't do that, I don't do that. I'm always in hustle mode, and I think that's because I'm always creating the next funnels, push all the ads into that funnel and sell it as opposed to all these amazing funnels we've created and just put them into a killer, long sequence and then focus on the traffic. Which even the traffic part does not take my whole time. That was the big takeaway for me, that was the huge aha. So I just kind of look at Brendon, imagine if you took your funnels, you broke even, you 3x'd on day one like we do with all of our funnels. Then instead of break even on day 60 you tripled on day one, and then from there you kept doing what you're doing. So he was excited about that. I was showing him all our ninja hacks to 3x on day one. And he was showing all the ninja hacks where he can basically not work, because he's got all the courses lined up sequentially. And it's interesting, the logical sequential order of things, I always thought that Experts Academy was his biggest business, but it's not. In fact, High Performance Academy is his thing, his biggest, that's his mission, that's his “date with destiny”. Tony Robbins has Date with Destiny, which is his pinnacle. For him High Performance Academy is his pinnacle event he's trying to get people to. And so all of his funnels are focused on getting people, he has no sales people, no nothing. He also has a 30 thousand a year mastermind and a 60 thousand dollar a year mastermind, and a 250 thousand dollar a year, and all those masterminds he doesn't have any sales people to sell them. They all just come through funnels, which is insane. I'm like, “But with a sales person it's really easy, it converts just as many people.” He's like, “yeah, I don't worry about that. I just put it out there and some people buy. I just jam enough traffic into it that if one out of every 10 thousand people buy, it all works.” I'm like, “Crazy.” It's fun to see this whole business through a different lens than my own, which is really cool. So that was one of my biggest takeaways. So for you guys, if you're all like me and you work too hard, I think that's the key. Quit creating tons of new funnels, which I know we all love, it's so exciting. But focus on, it comes back to follow up funnels, action funnels, like we talked about at Funnel Hacking Live. It's interesting, I think I did a presentation in December that showed how every dollar made in our break even funnels made $60.73 in our follow up funnels. That was with it in a short, 30 day follow up window, as opposed to what Brendon's doing where it's like 400 days. So anyway, that's something that I was literally sketching out in my notes from on my private plane. So crazy. On the plane, trying to figure out how I'm going to do that and what is the sequential order of my products. If someone comes in, my first thing I want to have is Expert Secrets, from there Dotcom Secrets, from there what is the sequential order? What's the pieces they need and the order they need them? How can I do it the cool way where I spend a couple of weeks getting people into the program, a couple of weeks telling stories, building value to now they love us, and a couple of weeks transitioning back and forth, back and forth. I think my biggest fear when I look at this is how am I going to create 400 days follow up sequence? And I look at Brendon and he didn't do a 400 day follow up sequence. He would build one and then another one. I think what I'm going to do is, here's my thought, and I may change it, but I'll share with you guys and maybe it'll give you guys some ideas on your own. I'm going to spend the next 30 days building out a 30 day follow up funnel. So if someone buys the book or anything, whatever they buy, what's the first thing I want to introduce them to? They buy the book and the book is the initial sequence or whatever. Then all those people, from all my front end offers, so I'm looking at I think 10 or 11 front end offers to bring people into it, all my break even funnels that I love. So I have a break even funnel, they go to the initial sequence there, after they do then we dump them from there into, and I'll probably call to action funnel and call it the first 30 days, and then the first 30 days will be like, here's the process for the first 30 days. Our number one goal for the first 30 days is to get them to buy Clickfunnels. So boom, I'll take them through the sequence process and they'll buy Clickfunnels, they'll watch the webinar, we'll indoctrinate and tell stories and all that kind of stuff. From there, we'll share a bunch of content, maybe some Funnel Hacking Live videos to give value. Then number two, now we got that. What's the next thing we want to take? So then I'll probably call it the second 30 days and then the third 30 days. I'll probably create an action funnel for each one. And at the end of the first 30 days after I build that second 30 days, I'll go back to the end of the first 30 days and I'll add in a step in the action sequence that says, “When they finish day 30 move them to the second 30 day sequence.” Then everyone will be past that, then it will be automatically into the second sequence and that way I can just build out 30 days at a time and not stress out about how I'm going to build 400 days. No I'm just going to build 30 days at a time. And then everyone that buys will be dumped in the first 30 days, here's the sequence they go through. Everyone will go through the same sequence, same everything. Then at the end of that I'll start building the next 30 days. Whenever I get it done, then I'll dump all leads into the second 30 days and then I'll hook it up so that everyone new coming in past day 30 si on the automatically shifted to the next action funnel. So it could be kind of cool. So maybe after I do this, this is actually a cool product. That reminded me of something else. Okay, this might be a cool product I do. After I get the first 365, here's the first 365 day follow up sequence, I may just want to buy that book. Here's every email for the first 365 days when someone comes into our funnels. So maybe I'll do that. Yeah, that'd be a cool product. So in a year, I'll sell that to you guys if you want it. Yeah, that'd be kind of cool. So this is a cool thing I got from Brendon, which is crazy. This is a couple of years ago, he did his, I can't remember which course, Expert Academy, one of his products. I've got Funnel Hacker Swipe file.com, what if I did that with every campaign we did, start selling the swipe files? That's interesting. Maybe I do it inside of funnel u? I don't know, just gives me ideas. But it made an extra $600 grand after just selling the prelaunch materials to the same audience. 3 times bought the marketing material as people who bought the actual product. It's crazy that people buy the product, the $97 thing he still sells at events everywhere else, people buy that and go through all his marketing material, and then they go back and buy his thousand dollar product now because they want it. It's kind of like what Frank Kern does. If you look at Frank Kern business funnel, he creates a product then launches it and after he sells him showing you what he did on that funnel and that's it. Its like swipe files. Here's the campaign plus the swipe files and it's insanely cool. Anywho, so much cool stuff. Alright, a couple of other cool things I learned from him. He's obviously, he's done two products with Oprah, so one of the interesting things he does with every one of his funnels, he has to make sure it's Oprah proof. Oprah and her people literally go through all his funnels and it has to be clean enough that it's Oprah proof. I started thinking about that, are my funnels Oprah proof? Where someone like Oprah came through would they be offended, would they not like it or whatever? Oprah's obviously not someone I'm going after, but who is the person I'm going after? Who are the people that I want to make sure….thinking about that, is the copy and positioning and all the stuff in your funnel, who is the dream person you want to go after? Would it pass their inspection and be like, this is cool and not scammy or spammy. In fact, I went to one of my funnels the other day and some weird email came out and I was like, “Ugh.” I remember I hired this guy to write emails and he wrote that email and I'm like, it's not congruent with me or what I say. So it's something to think about. The other cool thing he showed me how to do with YouTube ads. So the thing with YouTube ads, there's a YouTube ad that will be a video of him sharing 3 tips from his book and it pushes people to the book. And the people who watch that will be targeted to watch video number two, which has 3 more tips, and then push the book and then he targets those people to go to video number 3 which is now a recap, “Here's the 6 tips I talked about before” and pushes them back to the book. And then if they haven't bought the book after the 3 videos, then he puts them on a “Do not solicit” list. If they haven't bought from three videos, they will never buy and they have no hope. And you should never follow them or show them ads again. He puts them on a do not solicit list, which is kind of cool. Kind of a cool strategy as well. What else, what else? So many cool things. I hope that gives you guys some cool stuff. It was legit amazing, and now I'm sitting in a jet. I have a new love and respect for Brendon. I always said he was cool, but I just didn't know him or understand him and I think that I had kind of a misconception of him sometimes because, and it was interesting because I always thought he , in his mind he was kind of like me, he sees himself as a marketing dude, teaches marketing stuff. And as I talked to him, it's completely opposite, he thinks of himself as first off an author, and then his goal, his whole dream in life is personal development and high performance, things like that. In fact, his next book is called something about high performance as well. He spent two years with a whole research team creating insane stuff, building a test that measures high performance, that's his huge passion. And he's like, “I always teach the marketing stuff, you teach marketing better than me. Frank Kern teaches marketing better than me. I'm not the best marketing teacher but you're all my people who come through all my high performance stuff that want to know how I build this company. So I do Expert Academy once a year just to be like, ‘here's how I do it. I'm not the best but here's what I do.' And it's become a big thing, but it's not my focus or main thing. I don't promote it, I don't have any front end support. The only way people even know about Expert Academy is on day 200 of the funnel he introduces it to people.” I was like, that's really fascinating and interesting. Anyway, I thought that was really, really cool. That's what I got. So that's all I wanted to share with you guys I think today. So I'm going to be, I don't know when I'm landing, but I'm going to keep taking notes and map this thing out. You guys will probably see the fruits of this. My goal, my big takeaways from this whole meeting is to be able to take my amazing funnels and build out an amazing sequence that extends for a long time and putting everything in sequential order and things like that. That's my number one goal. And my number two goal to that is from that be able to take more time off. He said he takes 17 weeks off in a year. I don't know if I could do that, I think I would stress out. Plus, he doesn't have kids and stuff like that. So he and his wife are able to be like, “Hey lets go to Bali this week.” Or “Hey, let's go over here.” So they book out, they plan out each month where they're going and its crazy. I can't do that, because my kids have school and all these things. But maybe I could be like I'm going to take Friday off, or what if I came home every day at 3 when my kids got home, or what if I did stuff like once a quarter took a weekend with my wife, or whatever those things are. So I'm going to start playing with that. That was really inspiring for me. Oh the other cool thing I got from it. I did a podcast the other day how twice in Boise that day I had people come up to me, “Hey Russell.” And ask me questions about me and caught me off guard and I didn't know how to handle it. It was cool, we were sitting there eating lunch and some guy ran up, “Russell Brunson, I'm a funnel hacker.” And it was kind of awkward for me, and I didn't really say anything and the guy laughed and an hour later Brendon and I were walking and some guy ran up to Brendon like, “Dude! You're Brendon Burchard!” It was kind of cool, we both had it happen to us while we were hanging out. He handled it so much better than I did. It was so cool to see. I was just like, dang. Now I……it wsa cool to see that because he didn't do what I do. Act like an idiot. He turned around and was like, legitimately excited, “You know who I am? How do you know about my work?” and the guy was like, he wanted to tell him, it was cool Brendon told me he learned that from Paula Abdul. That's what Paula Abdul did. First off act all excited like, “Whoa.” Then ask them “how do you know my work? How do you know what I do.” And then they'll be excited to tell the story of how they know you. He's also good at, my biggest problem is I think I fear the conversation with people because I don't know how to end it. I get stuck in these awkward situations and I run away. So what he does is really cool. He asks them that question and then he starts turning his body like I gotta keep going, “That's really cool. Okay, well we're in a rush, we have to go but thank you so much for being a follower and a fan. Just so grateful for that.” And something like that. And then we're able to break away and leave. I even told him after, “Dude, that was so good for me to see. Because I don't know how to handle it. I don't know how to take that kind of stuff. I'm not used to that. It just freaks me out and I look like an idiot. That way you handled it was super cool and it was fun to see that in a live version.” So that was pretty cool to see as well. Anyway, that was the weekend, it was amazing. Now I'm sitting on a private jet and this is crazy. Only weird thing about it is if you look behind me, there's a little toilet seat, and there's a little curtain. Luckily I don't have to go to the bathroom, but if I did that would be the only thing about private jets that's not cool. There's not a real bathroom. It's like one of these seats you lift up the lid and there's the potty, pooper, whatever you want to call it, the toilet, the crapper, whatever you want to call it. There's the little curtain that you pull halfway over. And I guarantee it'd stink this place up and the pilots would kill me. I'm grateful I don't have to go to the bathroom. Other than that, private planes are cool. Note to self, take one and make sure you go before you go. There's the practical advice. What'd you learn from Marketing In Your Car? I learned if you ever fly in a private plane, you go to the bathroom before you get on otherwise you stink out the pilots and they'll hate you. Oh man. Anyway, alright guys. Appreciate you, I can't wait to get going with some of this stuff. Hopefully you guys got some cool lessons today like I did. Thank you Brendon, if you're listening to this, for taking the day with me. That was the real cool thing, he was in the middle of editing his book, he still took the whole day and he was so present and relaxed and if it was me, I'd be stressed out the whole entire time. Just coming back to he has his life structured to be able to handle this type of stuff and it was really impressive and cool to see. Anyway, I got a ton from it, hopefully you got something as well from listening in. Appreciate you all and I'll talk to again when we get back on solid ground. Bye.

Here's how to handle stress and become more peaceful, thoughtful and joyous: 1. Decide NOT to be a stress case. Are you allowing too much stress into your life? Keyword: Allowing. Most stress is not real and therefore you can make the intentional decision to not be as stressed anymore. In fact, most stress comes from one of two things: A false time crunch or making things more important than they really are. The truth is you have more time than you think to become focused, diligent, intentional and disciplined. Realize this, and stress melts away. Secondly, be willing to give yourself perspective. Ask, "How would my highest self view this? Remember: Whatever comes up, you got it. You can handle it. 2. Breathe: Most mental tension comes from physical tension, and taking in little sips of air leads to dealing worse with stress. Do this instead: Take in deeper breaths. Let your stomach out and allow it to fill up like a balloon with air. This will help you calm down. The deeper breathing you do, the more calm you can get yourself. Breathing is life; give yourself the gift of breathing it in. 3. Take A walk: Leave your office or leave the house and go for a 20 to 40 minute stroll outside. When you are moving and breathing, this helps you open your mind and find more calm. 4. Get organized: Most stress in our lives could be managed if we just organized it. Sometimes, just knowing that you are planning on handling something tomorrow at a specific time creates peace of mind now. Chunk out the hours of the day where you will move toward accomplishing those things that might be troubling you. When you get organized, you can better handle stress. One of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime is to better handle stress. Starting right now, decide not to be as stressed as you were last year or the year before. In doing so, you become happier, calmer and more present in your life and you get to experience what we call The Charged Life! Not all forms of so-called ‘authenticity’ are… well, the real thing. Keep these points in mind: 1. Be authentic, not abusive: Some people use “authenticity” as an excuse to be socially abusive. They say something rude or demeaning to others and then justify it with a flippant, “Well, I was just being real and honest.” No, you were being rude and oblivious. In each of our hearts there is an authentic desire to speak our mind but also care for other people. Being discourteous flies in the face of the divine drive for connection. Not all your interpretations of others - and your opinions are interpretations, not truths - must be spoken. The good news is you can always be who you are, authentically, without discounting others. 2. Be authentic, not fearful: A lot of people use genuineness as a shield or mask. They exclaim, “That’s just way I am!” or “Don’t tell me what to do! That’s not authentic tome!” or “I know what I like and who I am - I just don’t like that!” But there’s a difference between being authentic and being fearful. Boxing yourself into a belief about who you are and what you are capable of can diminish your growth. Being so “set in your ways” might seem authentic, but it can prevent you from learning, developing, evolving, attaining new skills and competencies. 3. Explore who you could be. If you are stuck in life because you are too proud of who you are, maybe it’s time to explore who you could become. Ask yourself, “Who would I truly be if I were more courageous? Who would I have to become to grow into my highest self? What uncomfortable thing might I have to attempt in order to stretch and attain my dream? Stretching the conceptual boundaries of your belief and behavior is how you open yourself to the next level of success. Here are 3 simple ways to slow time and experience the meaning, magic and beauty of life: 1. Heighten your senses. When you are being more aware and present to the moment, it can feel like time s-l-o-w-s down. Do you remember times when moments seemed to slow down? That first kiss. Seeing your child graduate. An incredible meal or celebration that seemed to last forever. These things seem to move in slow motion because the moment meant something to you and thus your awareness was heightened. To slow time, then, train yourself to heighten your senses. Breath more slowly and deeply. Pay more attention to the sounds and sights all around you. Broaden your awareness and take in more of your experience. These things help you slow time down and really experience life again. 2. Minimize the number of things you pay attention to. Get rid of distractions and don’t pay attention to so many things. The more you multitask, the less you do things with excellence, the less fulfilled you feel and the less capable you become. Learn to say no more and take on fewer things. Evaluate your opportunities and pay attention to only those things that matter. For example, when your loved ones come home, meet them at the door and have a moment where there is nothing else but them. Make that moment all there is. Make it a moment of real connection. In these singular moments of focus time slows down and becomes more meaningful. 3. Focus on heightening your feelings. Sometimes when we are overwhelmed, we numb out. When life is going so fast, a lot of people don’t feel…anything. We kiss our loved ones and we don’t even feel it because we are not there in the moment. But the more moments you create by feeling the emotions of others and tuning back into your emotions with greater depth, the more you will notice your days start to count. Over time as you do these things, you won’t feel so distracted or stressed. You will sense more slow, emotional moments that you will enjoy and remember with fondness. You will start to feel life again, and you will start to experience what we call The Charged Life! How our mind works: 1. Information: Your mind consumes information from the environment or circumstance you're in...and it reacts to it. So what comes in matters. If you’re around negative people, your mind wants to mirror that negativity. If you’re around something inspiring, your mind mirrors that too. So be cautious about having negative information and people in your life because they shape your overall psychology. And be diligent about consuming positive, intelligent, and instructive information to strengthen your mind. 2. Interpretation: Once your mind takes in information, it interprets it by asking, "Is this good or bad? Is this safe or dangerous? Should I approach or avoid? What does this mean to me personally?" Interpretation defines things for us and tells us how meaningful something is. And that interpretation is primarily driven by past experiences, what we call conditioning. Self-mastery is really about learning to consciously interpret the information coming into our lives in an open and purposeful way, And part of mastering our relationships is learning how those we love interpret things. 3. Intention: Our intention of who to be can rewrite our history. It is our dominant intentions for who we want to be, how we want to interact with people, and what we want to create and contribute to the world that forms the real power of our mind. Imagine a burning building on fire. Some people might interpret danger and run, while someone else might have the intention to be a servant and hero and their intention overrides their interpretation of danger...and they run into the building to save people. 4. Initiative: Our mind is most shaped by our actual behavior. When we act cowardly by running away, remain silent, or refuse to take actions toward dreams that are important to us, our mind interprets this and says, "I'm weak, incapable or unworthy." Yet, when we take action and have initiative, our mind develops self-determination and self-regulation. Our actions of yesterday form the thrust of how we think today. The more positive actions we take the more positive our minds become. We can experience more energy, engagement and enthusiasm in life when we tap into the power of novelty and challenge. Here’s how to do it: 1. Make Novelty Meaningful: When something is new to us, it feels fresh and activates our brain to pay attention and often feel rewarded. The challenge in the modern era is that this can backfire - all the new stuff we see is not rewarding but often distraction. It feels good to browse, but too much browsing destroys our ability to focus on meaningful things and have real progress in life. For novelty to positively activate us in our lives, we must plan for it. Make sure you’re learning new things that you want to learn and that help you grow and advance your life. Ask yourself, “What would I love to learn to get better at what I do in my life?” When you study, experience and pay attention to new things in this area, novelty becomes meaningful and helps you grow and feel fully alive. 2. Make Challenges Meaningful: Challenge is everything for our personal advancement and growth. It’s one of the Forward Drives (from my book The Charge) and without it we feel bored or restless. Often when we’re lost or bored in life we’re simply lacking a meaningful challenge! Ask yourself, “What new meaningful challenges am I pursuing right now?” Meaningful challenges have two components: Creative Expression and Contribution. We get excited about new challenges that creatively express what we think, whatwe feel and who we are. That is why art or new business projects that require real thinking and new ideas are so invigorating to us - they make us stretch our minds. Add the ability to make a difference with the challenge, and suddenly we have the right mix for truly engaging and meaningful pursuits. So what new things can you learn that will help you develop? What new challenges can you take on personally or as a team to stretch the boundaries of your beliefs and behaviors? You can purposefully add more novelty to your life and challenge yourself creatively in a contribution-oriented way. This is the path to living The Charged Life! Our focus drives everything in our lives. It almost single-handedly determines whether or not we’ll experience a high quality of life and accomplish things that are meaningful to us. Here are three counter-intuitive ways to stay focused: 1. Make fewer decisions. The more decisions we make, the more fatigued our brain becomes and the less effective we are over the long-term. So, first, stop browsing so much! Mindlessly browsing consumes incredible amounts of brainpower; every new link and every new piece of information to pay attention to eats up your mental energy and reserves. It costs you not only your focus, but your willpower and future focal power as well. If you’re looking for something, search for ONE thing, find it… and then stop. Limit your browsing and get back your brain. 2. Define your mission. Most people show up withoutany intention and, as a result, they end up doing too many things that aren’t important. Ask yourself, “What do I desire in life? What should I be doing with my time at this moment to further my life and mission?” Figure out the steps ahead, take focused action, and be ruthless in minimizing time spent on anything else. 3. Say NO to everything immediately, as a first response, from now on. Don’t immediately commit to projects anymore. Check them against your mission and passions. Ask, “Should I focus on this right now in my life? Yes or no? Is this good for me or bad for me? Is this the right time or wrong time?” Learn to say no to anything that doesn’t fire your heart with full commitment and enthusiasm. Staying focused is one of the most important skills in life. It’s time to commit to getting back to a simple approach to life, to focusing on only one-to-three major things at a time. Day by day, moment by moment, move your life toward only those things that truly engage and energize you. Soon, you will start to experience what we call The Charged Life! When tragedy strikes or life knocks you down -- how do you cope? Whether it's environmental disasters or personal tragedies, what can you and I do to face the hardship that comes with difficult times? Here are a few ideas that may help you if you're going through a tough time: 1. Don't hide or fall into silence. When something bad happens we tend to want to close off and not to talk to anyone because, "they don't understand and they haven't been through this." But the reality is there's probably nothing you're going through right now that is absolutely unique. We don't go through things alone in humanity anymore - and one of the greatest ways to cope, feel better, recover and move on in a healthy way is to get social support. 2. Define your meaning. When something bad happens, ask yourself, "What does this mean to me?" Find an optimistic meaning even if it seems like nothing good could come from it. You will get stronger if you decide the meaning of the event is there to teach you something. 3. Keep your perspective. Remember, the event will change. It will hurt less. It will improve. This too shall pass. Even if things suck right now, you have to believe things can get better! Just because you can't change the diagnosis doesn't mean you can't steadily improve your mind, heart, spirit, and relationships. 4. Keep a vision of the future that draws enthusiasm, excitement and engagement. No matter what, every single day, move toward your vision. If you're REALLY struggling, just set three small goals a day - and knock those off. In moments of hardship, remember to act on these ideas, and you will make progress, you will be keeping your mind engaged, and your soul will keep marching forward. You will sense the energy and pull that is still in your life. It's your time to charge forward and charge your life! Where are you in your relationships right now? Are you happy? Unhappy? Are you looking for someone? Have you been with someone for a long time? Wherever you are, here are some universal ideas that can help you create greater love, connection and joy in your relationships: 1. Practice Positive Projection. Assume the best about your partner and project positive traits and ideas onto them. If you’ve been in a relationship a long time you may be tempted to think, “No, you don’t understand about MY partner…” But instead of going into old patterns, beliefs, hurts, and pains from the past -- assume the other person is there with you, for you, and in love with you. Do this, and instead of tearing your relationship apart, you will be bringing it closer together. 2. Learn To Listen Longer. The essence of being a better listener is to listen longer – and this is what deepens relationships. Don’t try to fix them. Don’t try to stop them. Don’t interrupt them. Allow the other person to express themselves. Be patient and listen longer. 3. Escape Together. Get away with your partner and go somewhere for 2 or 3 days every 90 days. You can go anywhere, but every 90 days schedule it and disappear together. Everybody CAN do this with the person they love. We get to choose what we do with our time, so reclaim your life agenda and escape together. If your relationship is important to you – prioritize it! 4. Stay In Your Job In The Relationship. What is your job in the relationship? TO LOVE! It’s so easy to forget this. Choose love over your past pains, hurts and fears. If you handle your money in the right way, you can have more, give more, and enjoy your life more. Here's what you can do to start taking control of your money now: 1. Revisit your story about money. Where we come from and what we hear about money unconsciously shapes our lives. If you think rich people are negative or that having money is bad, you won’t attain wealth because you don’t want to be negative or bad. If wealth is something that brings you more happiness, joy, and service, you'll want to make more of it. So, first, redefine what wealth means to YOU! 2. Make sure you automatically invest. When get a check from your employer, have some of the funds automatically go into your savings account or investment account. This way you won't forget and you won't spend the money unnecessarily. Automatically investing mean your money will be earning money for you and working for you. 3. Ask the question, “How can I add more value in the time in which I serve?” Squeeze in more value. Hustle a little bit more. Serve even more. Adding more value to people in the same amount of time makes you more productive, gets you more recognition, and gives you more opportunities. There's no traffic beyond the extra mile! Just add a little more than anyone else is doing, and you'll be in a category of one. 4. Raise your standards for a reward! If you’re a High Performer and really adding value but you're still not being rewarded for your true contribution, raise your minimum of what you will allow in your life. Be bold, push the boundaries, and you will be rewarded. When you follow these simple steps for handling your money, you will have a positive story about wealth, your money will be earning money for you, you will be adding more value, you will have a higher standard for yourself and you will be experiencing The Charged Life! In this episode of The Charged Life, high performance coach and #1 New York Times bestselling author Brendon Burchard shares how to deal with difficult times in life. This is Brendon speaking freestyle, recorded in one take without prompter or notes. -------------------- SUMMARY: -------------------- 1. Set Small, Simple Daily Goals. When times are difficult, it's easy to feel we've lost all our personal power. So, a simple way to insert agency and progress in our lives is to simply set three small goals every day and work to achieve them. These can be as simple as taking a shower, going for a walk, and calling a friend. 2. Keep Perspective. Draw some strength from the truth that there have been positive, good, happy times in life and that those moments and memories can return and are with you. And remember that part of keeping perspective is realizing you are not on an island alone - there are people out there who can help you through this. Finally, remember, you are the miracle - the fact that you can choose your attention and breath and choices each day is a blessing. 3. Ask, "What should I be learning here?" When times are tough, we often feel that we can't understand or handle things, that we lack competence or capability. So, to shore up those feelings, be strategic and ask, "What could I learn here?" or "What could I learn now to better handle this stage of my life?" 4. Have Intention to Be Your Best Self Despite the Difficulties. When I had a brain injury, I couldn't control my emotions and actions for a while. I felt out of control. All I could do is set the intention to be my best. I forced myself to ask, "How would my best self interact with this situation? How would I view this, go through this, support others despite it all?" Sometimes, reminding ourselves to be good and strong even when it is hard can keep us positive and connected. 5. Keep Gratitude Alive. This is the time to get grateful for the choices and blessings you do have, for the people you do have supporting you, for who you are and who you can become. Appreciate the small things, especially now when it's tough. In this episode of The Charged Life, high performance coach and #1 New York Times bestselling author Brendon Burchard shares how to learn faster. This is Brendon speaking freestyle, recorded in one take without prompter or notes.--------------------SUMMARY:-------------------- If we want to learn faster, we have to approach learning differently. 1. You have to know what you want of your life before you become a master learner. If you don't know what your goals are or dream life should look like, you don't know WHAT to learn and, worse, you won't be COMMITTED to truly learning it. Advanced learning requires clear focus and a definitive WHY for learning - without these you won't stay disciplined enought to learn anything with real depth.2. Avoid starting from scratch. With no model to begin from - no example or strategy you are following - you're reinventing the wheel and doomed to waste time. So, what proven framework, person, strategy, or step-by-step instruction are you following in order to learn this new area?3. Make a PRACTICE of mastering skillsets. A practice is a recurring habit or routine that deepens your skill in any given area. The importan thing here is to make a daily practice of anything you truly want to learn. Without daily exposure and immersion in the area you are trying to learn you will never achieve mastery. Learning must be an everyday discipline. 4. Get feedback. As you begin something new, all leaps forward, all major advancement, rests on getting immediate feedback and direction. Learning is a social process, so ask other people for suggestions and direction as you move forward so you can adjust your approach. 5. Have a deadline. Without a timeline for developing your competencies, you'll never act or you'll fall off track. No deadline means guanteed distraction. So, WHEN do you need to learn this new topic or reach the next level of skill? What's the consequence if you don't learn it by then? Knowing the answer to these two questions will accelerate your learning. EPISODE 28 – BUILDING YOUR PODCAST BUSINESS Most every podcaster has the desire to turn their podcast into a business. Though some podcasters treat their show as a hobby and an outlet for their passion, many reach a point where they wish to monetize their efforts. Podcast profits are possible in many forms when podcasters get creative. Most podcasts do not generate enough cash to stand alone as a business. There are ways to generate revenue from the podcast, such as advertising and sponsorships. These methods typically bring in money in direct relation to the size of the audience. It is traditionally called CPM, or cost per thousand. (M is mille - Latin for thousand, M is also the Roman numeral for thousand.) There are two primary issues with relying on advertising as your primary revenue source. The first downside of CPM is the direct relation of hours to dollars. When you stop putting in hours, you stop taking out dollars. When you stop creating the podcast, the revenue stream stops as well. When you exchange hours for dollars, that is called a job. When you create something one time and it generates a continuous stream of income, that becomes a business. Limited inventory and revenue is the second problem with advertising. There is a limit to the amount of sponsorship time possible within any particular episode. If your podcast is an hour in length, how much advertising could the show possibly contain? Two sponsors? Four sponsors? At some point, the adverting becomes a negative to the audience. This is the issue terrestrial radio is facing. The commercial time has expanded to a level that is negatively affecting time spent listening to radio. Stations are hoping listeners will sit through 12 minutes of commercials on music stations and nearly 20 minutes on talk stations. People are looking for other content that does not force feed them content they do not desire. This is where your podcast will thrive. You can turn your podcast into a business by developing a suite of products. Brendon Burchard, the author of "The Millionaire Messenger" and creator of Experts Academy, describes it as an integrated product suite. The podcast attracts a group of followers without wasting their time. Your content and message builds a friendships. Listeners begin to know, like and trust you. Once you have built a loyal group of listeners that trusts you and your message, you can ask them to join your list in exchange for something free. This gets people to take the next step to become engaged with your brand. I use this with free worksheets, videos and other content. Fans give me permission to e-mail them pertinent, valuable content. The additional free content continues to build the relationship. After delivering content over time, you can begin to monetize the trust you've built. Start by asking your fans to purchase a low end product, such as this workbook. The low end product doesn't cost much. It is simply a purchase to break the barrier to make your fan comfortable doing business with you. Your listener can risk $20 to see if your products are as good as you say. Again, we are building more trust. If you could sell 1,000 e-books at $20 each to your audience of 10,000 listeners, you would generate $20,000 in revenue. Let's compare that to the CPM model. The average CPM in podcasting is around $25. Using that same 10,000 listeners, your CPM factor would be 10, because you have ten “thousands”. $25 CPM x 10 “thousands” equals $250 per episode sponsorship. Two sponsors per episode would generate $500 per episode. Producing 50 episodes per year would then bring in $25,000 annually. That is just a little better than the e-book model. There is a big difference between the two methods. With the e-book, you write it once. It then continues to generate revenue. You must create your podcast every week to keep the revenue flowing. At the beginning of the next year, your podcast starts over again. Your e-book continues to sell with little additional effort. You can also write another book to begin doubling your revenue. The next step is a mid-range product. This would be something in the $200 range. While you continue to deliver great, free content and your book continues to sell and build trust, you can then produce your mid-level product. At some point, you will ask for that sale. Convincing 100 of your 10,000 fans to purchase your $200 product will generate $20,000. We are talking about converting one percent of your audience at this level. This style of product layering continues as you build your business. It is all based on the relationships you are creating with your podcast. You are building trust with your podcast. The fantastic, free content allows your fans to know, like and trust you. Your podcast is the foundation of your business. Your podcast is not your income generator. The relationships you have build with your audience becomes the conduit to create income. Your friendships will be the basis on which your business is built. We will turn those relationships into a suite of great products centered around your content. “Entrepreneur on Fire” with John Lee Dumas is arguably one of the most successful recent podcasts in terms of revenue generation. John releases a daily podcast 365 days a year. He has been able to monetize his podcast at a high level using sponsorships. In fact, he posts his monthly income report at www.EntrepreneurOnFire.com/income. According to his site, Dumas generated $39,400 from sponsorships in December 2013. Even at that level of success, John Lee Dumas has other products. At nearly $40,000 a month, his show is bringing in almost half a million dollars in annual sponsorship revenue. If you examine the income report, advertising within the show isn't even the largest source of income during the month of December. Entrepreneur on Fire generated $52,763 with John's “Podcasters' Paradise” program. In total, Dumas lists 7 different revenue sources on his income report. These include a mastermind, sponsorships, an ebook, an audiobook, his program, one-on-one mentoring and affiliates. This is a great example of a suite of products. The entire program is built on the foundation laid by his podcast. If you hope to build a business around your podcast, begin by developing your product suite. Brainstorm the various products and services you can create. Make a list of five to ten products that will begin to generate revenue for you. Then, start creating the one that will be quick and easy. This is where your business will begin to take shape. Your entire business will be built around your podcast. This is where people will begin to trust you. Everything described in this workbook up to this point has been designed to get your audience to know, like and trust you. Only when we reach that point can we begin to monetize the show. You are creating a relationship with your audience. The more you reveal about yourself on your show, the more you create influence through friendship. Your sales will be built on the trust you are developing. Help your audience. In sports coaching it is often said that players will not care how much the coach knows until they know how much the coach cares. Show your listeners you care by helping them solve their problems. Develop that friendship. Once your friendship is built, your listeners will begin to move through your product funnel. Your product funnel is just as it sounds. We bring many people into the big end of the funnel. As they move through, the price goes up until only a few come out the small end. Your podcast and other free content is at the big end of the funnel. As we move to the low-tier $20 product, we lose a group of listeners. We then lose another group when we progress to the $200 product. Listeners continue to move along the funnel until we have a few dedicated listeners playing thousands of dollars at the small end of the funnel. You cannot begin at the middle of the funnel. People do not begin by buying your $200 without knowing anything about you. The entire funnel is based around your podcast and the relationships you are creating. Though your podcast will not be your primary revenue generator, it will be the foundation for your business. This is where it all begins. Make it great. Tell the truth. Make it matter. Have fun. Before you know it, you will be building great friendships on the way to an amazing business.
