With Financial yesterday, Physical today, followed by personal development on Monday......and family on Tuesday, we'll begin covering all the various categories we're setting goals in.This fits the newly updated description of the podcast. Check it out here! Why did I start the year with a physical goal?To boost creativity! (Hat tip Dan Miller)https://www.48days.com/category/48-days-podcast/Rob's Optimal Kettlebell Workout1. Kettlebell Swings – 75 repsIn as few sets of good form as possibleNo more than 1 minute rest between setsGoal – 75 reps in one set, then move to larger kettlebellExample: 35 swings, 60s rest, 20 swings, 60s rest, 20 swingsSuggested Weight to Begin: 20kg (44lb)Rob's Beginning Weight: 10kg (22lb) 2. Standing Overhead Kettlebell Press – 50 repsIn as few sets of good form as possibleNo more than 1 minute rest between setsGoal – 50 reps in one set, then move to larger kettlebellExample: 20 presses, 60s rest, 15 presses, 60s rest, 15 pressesSuggested Weight to Begin: 10lbRob's Beginning Weight: 10lb This workout serves dual purpose you are obviously working out the shoulder(deltoids) but the standing and weight on one side forces stabilizing muscles through your whole body to fire and keep you from dipping to the weighted side.3. Kettlebell Front Squat – 50 repsIn as few sets of good form as possibleNo more than 1 minute rest between setsGoal – 50 reps in one set, then move to larger kettlebellExample: 20 squats, 60s rest, 15 squats, 60s rest, 15 squatsSuggested Weight to Begin: 30lbRob's Beginning Weight: "Assisted" Squat Only 4. Farmers Walk, Suitcase Carry Modification – 2 setsThis exercise does not work in reps instead its time or distance.Your goal is to carry and walk with the weight for as long as your grip can hold it, then switch the weight to the other side and repeatDo 2 sets of this carry for time on each side.Rob's Beginning Weight: ~35lbs for 100 paces x 2 setsThe recommended starter kettlebell weight for the swings and squats is a 44lb or 54lb kettlebell but you can start lower obviously, you will just probably work through to the goals a bit quicker. This workout is best when done 3 or 4 times a week with a day between each workout. The first week you might need an extra rest day after the first workout if you are not using those muscles in your daily life. The great thing about it is this really scales well by just bumping up the weight. Since 2005, DTN Progressive Farmer has been selecting two farmers every year from various parts of the country to participate in their annual View from the Cab series. These farmers, Ryan Jenkins of the Florida Panhandle and Reid Thompson of Illinois, get to know each other and DTN’s Pamela Smith as they work through weekly calls and check-ins, sharing their stories and their seasons with the rest of the agricultural community. 2020’s farmers had a particularly unique experience, and the dozens of stories written from their perspectives reflect all the madness of an unprecedented year. We’ll meet these two progressive farmers, hear about their season and how they coped with change, and what they're looking forward to in the year ahead.
In our weekly news wrap from India, we bring you details about why farmers protesting against the Narendra Modi government's new farming laws walked out of a meeting organised for them by the Centre. This and more news from India this week.
This week is all about the importance of grip strength in fishing. The farmer’s walk is an Old School exercise that has stood the test of time for a good reason…it works! It is just like it sounds, you basically take something that is heavy and walk around with it. Just like everything else I do, this one does not require anything expensive or only available in a gym. I fill up two 5 gallon buckets and take a few laps around my driveway. To make things harder, I also do this with heavy kettlebells. The Farmers Walk and Farmer’s Hold are not flashy or new. They are time tested and effective. Throw this into your workout a couple of times a week and I promise that you will be able to hold that cast net longer, pull the anchor faster, carry more ice, lift heavier coolers all without hurting your back. Plus, when we get back to shaking hands with each other you will crush people and make a great first impression. Just don’t break anyone’s hands. You will be COUNTRY STRONG! Dan Cenidoza interview with Bob Whelan - NATURAL STRENGTH NIGHT podcast - (episode 34) - 31 January 17 Tonight our guest is Dan Cenidoza. I have known Dan for about 15 years. He lived in Maryland, north of Baltimore when I lived in Washington, DC. Dan made the long drive several times to workout at my gym Whelan Strength Training. Dan is one of the best high quality, and most well rounded guys I know. A true family man who really gets what life is about. Dan had the Farmers Walk record at WST, usually done after the workout. We used a pair of Atomic Athletic utensils loaded to 110 pounds each and we competed by who had the least amount of times putting down the weights to finish the course. Most people put them down 20 times or more to finish. Dan had the record with one. He was the only trainee to carry 110 pounds in each hand (220 total) around the entire city block surrounding the gym, only putting them down once. Dan used to leave various metal objects on my desk almost every time he came. These were things like metal bars and objects that he had bent and twisted into all sorts of designs and shapes. I was building quite a scrap metal collection in my office from Dan. His car was filled with phone books, nails and other tools of the strongman trade and he would do various feats too after his workout was done. Dan is a certified "Captain of Crush" and I have seen him close my Iron Mind number # 3 gripper with ease on several occasions. He competes as a Strong Man and he won the "Maryland Strongest Man" contest and has also been a 6 time National Qualifier. Dan has a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science from Towson State University and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. He holds other fitness certifications as well. Dan has also spent time working with the Baltimore Ravens. He has written several articles for Natural Strength.com and Strong First.com Dan is also involved with boxing and the martial arts too. To contact Dan, Please visit his website … ArtandStrength.com … that’s Art and Strength .com. Big Dan, Thank You for your time and welcome to Natural Strength Night. He has many interesting stories about his time at York … we’ll be talking about them tonight. There is a lot of information here. If you love iron game History, then you are in for a real treat! Roger practices what he preaches and is pound for pound one of the strongest guys around in NATURAL strongman competitions and Olympic lifting. He has overhead pressed … atlas stones … heavier than his bodyweight. Roger is the CEO and owner of Atomic Athletic a great company that was a sponsor of several of my Capital City Strength Clinics. Atomic Athletic makes some of the toughest, hardcore strength training equipment you will find.
