Episode 447 / Aaron Glasson (b Auckland, 1983) is a New Zealand born multi-disciplinary artist based in Mexico, City. Since completing a Bachelor's degree in Art and Design at the Auckland University of Technology in 2005 he has been exhibiting and creating public art works internationally. His art has been in group exhibitions at the East Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art, the Oceanside Museum of Art, Heron Arts, Maia Contemporary, Goodmother Gallery, Spoke Art, the Straat Museum along with solo exhibitions at ICA San Diego, Swish Projects, Louis Buhl & Co, Maia Contemporary and Curators Cube.
In this episode of “B The Way Forward,” host Brenda Darden Wilkerson speaks with Chelsey Glasson about pregnancy discrimination in the workplace and why your voice matters. Chelsey, author of, “Black Box: A Pregnancy Discrimination Memoir,” gives us an inside look at how companies may perpetuate harassment in the workplace, and offers tools and resources to navigate these scenarios. In this conversation, Chelsey explains the pregnancy discrimination that she faced at a large tech company and shares advice for people who may find themselves in similar situations. Now, Chelsey is on her healing journey and shares how her experience led her to become a writer, advocate and future attorney. Together, Brenda and Chelsey hope that sharing more of these stories will inspire others to speak out against these types of injustices. “You have to do what's right for you in terms of healing. And it's okay to prioritize that. And for me, the right thing is to transition away from tech. But, because I went through this journey, because I'm a researcher and I love being in the space of innovation, I realize all of these opportunities within the legal system to better support people who have experienced workplace misconduct.” For more, check out Chelsey and her work... We have been trying to make this episode happen with Eliza Glasson (née Kearns), founder of the communication agency Kearns PR since we started the podcast. However, it has been worth the wait. Not only does Eliza run a thriving communications agency working with clients like J Andreatta, Jan Logan, Benefit Cosmetics and Basil Bangs; she also runs the PR for fashion giant GLASSONS. Did we mention she is married to the CEO, James Glasson? Oh, and she also has two beautiful children, Olive and Camille. We were lucky enough to share an office (and attend events) with Eliza and she has executed some of the best PR events and strategies we've seen. Her events were WOW. The anti PR, PR queen taught us everything we know about writing the perfect email lol and we are so excited she finally joined us on the pod. This isn't just a chat about PR and while Eliza hates getting deep - she shared the pain of losing her mother and brother at a very young age and how that's reframed her outlook on becoming a mother. The revolution in content and production that is sweeping through Hollywood studios and streaming services is hitting marketing, and the surging content volumes that brands need to create for multiple channels and screens is up at least 2,000 per cent in the past five years, Richard Glasson, global CEO of WPP's booming production group, Hogarth, estimates. As marketer budgets come under increasing pressure globally, Hogarth is betting big on artificial intelligence, automated content and virtual production, tipping Woolworths, Woolmark, Suncorp and Bayer as winners among their stable of clients. Glasson says virtual production cuts costs – he wouldn't say by how much – and will rapidly become “the default way of producing work” in both Hollywood and advertising, as CMOs manage content demands across more channels to reach an increasingly fragmented consumer base. How does a marketer begin to think about the metaverse or Web3 with no extra budget, for example? A mix of smart creatives, automation, offshoring and “modular” production is a solution, Hogarth Australia's CEO Justin Ricketts says. A recent campaign creating a blazing inferno and New York apartment in a single day in a Melbourne studio shows how it's done.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Former Jackaroos coach Steve Glasson and Commonwealth Games silver medal Para-Jackaroo Chris Flavel speak to Sam Hargreaves.
Our Great Coach on this episode is Steve Glasson. Steve represented Australia in Lawn Bowls over 300 times, and won the Australian championships 19 times. In 2004 he became the first Australian to be world number one in men's singles. He then transitioned into coaching and from 2011 until 2021 he was the coach of the Australian Lawn Bowls team where he oversees the Mens, Womens, Youth and Physically impaired teams. His achievements as coach are lengthy, when I asked him to list them he simply said numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, Asia Pacific Games, World Cup and other International Events. In 2012 Steve was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. Steve is a calm, pragmatic coach who understands the values of trust and hard work when it comes to unlocking improved performance in individuals and teams. He is also selfless and tireless in the way that the very best coaches are, and believes in the enduring importance of athletes aspiring to be wonderful ambassadors for their own last name. As a former world champion himself, Steve approaches his coaching through the lens of the athlete, and in fact considers it a privilege to be in a position where he is able to have the type of deep conversation with an athlete that allows you to understand more about their motivations, dreams and insecurities. Other key highlights in this discussion for me were: How lawn Bowls is often perceived as a sport for older people but as Steve points out early in this interview, the average age of the Australian Bowls team is less than the average age of the Australian cricket team. The importance of focusing on the process and not the end outcomes if you want to win championships. And making sure that the process if flexible enough to allow you to learn from your failures And how confidence can be re-built by taking the athlete back to their strengths and what they are able to execute best. This was a wonderful conversation, and I hope you enjoy it as much as Jim and I did. If you would like to send us any feedback or if you know a great coach, who has a unique story to share, then we would love to hear from you, please contact us at thegreatcoachespodcast@gmail.com or contact us through our website thegreatcoachespodcast.com

Today, with Ashwell Glasson, we address deep-seated Wicked Problems as a root cause of civil unrest and social disruptions that are occurring globally, as a result of unrestrained economic growth leading to environmental problems. We gain an understanding that we cannot isolate environmental issues to a specific region as they have far-reaching effects and lead to interconnected series of problems on national and global scales. We must break our cycle of short-term thinking and pushing problems off, as we are only going to see more “day zero's” with less and fewer resources. These underlying wicked problems permeate the globe and it is time for deep-seated reforms – politically and socially, nationally and internationally, economically and environmentally, and the normalization of the abnormal breakdown of civil society. It's time to face up to our collective human responsibilities and address these issues.

Today's conversation with my guest Ashwell Glasson gives provides us with a view of the scale and scope of the challenges we are facing in securing biodiversity. What is being called for is an overhaul of the current models and mindsets driving conservation efforts in global landscapes under multiple pressures, including transnational wildlife crime at unprecedented levels. For the sake of frame of reference, our discussion is focused on rhino conservation as it holds markers of all that is changing and is at stake. The conversation takes multiple twists and turns as we unravel layers and identify the players toward a new world vision that can redefine the benchmark of health and wealth in passing the torch to new generations. Rather than a revision of what doesn't work; solutions that resonate and engender cross-cultural participation at all levels of society, are augmented with new tool kits and skillsets for a holistic–earth one-health operating system.

Cait Glasson is singular - a polyglot, linguist and translator - who also moonlights as a gamer YouTuber. In 1994, Cait formed a core part of a key battle for queer rights in Ontario, pushing then Premier Bob Rae and his ilk to include same-sex equality rights in the omnibus bill. It ultimately failed - by nine votes - and showed the continued power of religious conservatives to influence politicians' stances on queer rights, particularly in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Cait is generous with her stories and speaks vulnerably about the toll the pandemic has taken on her, calling for greater radicalism in old age. We thank Cait deeply! Stay tuned for more podcasts as we ramp up for Pride month and announce a live event with our featured guests. Lindsey Glasson, formally an Executive Chef in Napa, now resides in Michigan where she continues her passion for plant medicine and culinary creations. This is her beautiful story of how travels, ceremony and cacao catapulted her into a life of purpose and inner knowing. "The Holy Trifecta is body, mind, spirit connection and it's where we can achieve our fullest potential." If you've never learned about the benefits of cacao, this interview is the perfect introduction. We also talk about anti-inflammatory foods and healthy options for eating on-the-go (hint: prepare ahead of time!) You can PURCHASE cacao and learn more on Lindsey's website at: iekawa.com To find Lindsey on Instagram: @her_thyme What is Cacao? Cacao is chocolate in its purest form. Did you know chocolate comes from a bean, similar to a coffee bean? i.e.Kawa beans are handpicked on a family farm in Upala, Costa Rica where they are then fermented, sundried and stone ground in an artisanal machine. The word cacao comes from the Olmec people who inhabited what is now Mexico, and it is believed to be the closest pronunciation to the original name of the plant. History shows that chocolate then changed hands from the Olmec to the Mayans to the Spanish. The word cacao is the only word ever used in any of the Hispanic languages to describe what English speakers think of as cocoa. Chocolate is made from Cacao beans — or rather seeds — from the Theobroma cacao tree. This plant produces large, pod-like fruits, each containing 20–60 beans surrounded by a sticky, sweet-tart white pulp. The word Cacao translates to, food of the gods. The Mayans and the Aztecs have used it for thousands of years for ceremonial and medicinal purposes. Not only is it a super food but a spiritual aid. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/alimarielong/support
Join us for an interview with Chelsey Glasson, Qualitative User Research at Facebook, where she shares how she had struggled with friction between her and her organization and how this friction had caused cycles of burnout. She just couldn't fully explain the experience until she understood what it meant to be a Catalyst. Even as the concept of Catalyst was resonating early in her journey, she struggled to own the term Catalyst because of how big the word felt. Chelsey describes what it means to be an introvert Catalyst. She shares what she's learned about herself since learning about being a Catalyst and how she's leaned into creating big change. She's taken on Google over pregnancy discrimination, changed laws to protect women, and is launching her new venture. Chelsey also shares the struggles of being a Catalyst and a parent of young children in a COVID world.
Today, with returning guest Ashwell Glasson, we address deep seated Wicked Problems as a root cause of civil unrest and social disruptions that are occurring globally, as a result of unrestrained economic growth leading to environmental problems. We gain an understanding that we cannot isolate environmental issues to a specific region as they have far reaching effects and lead to interconnected series of problems on national and global scales. We must break our cycle of short term thinking and pushing problems off, as we are only going to see more “day zero's” with less and less resources. These underlying wicked problems permeate the globe and it is time for deep seated reforms – politically and socially, nationally and internationally, economically and environmentally, and the normalization of the abnormal break down of civil society. it's time to face up to our collective human responsibilities and address these issues.

We've been here before. At every convention of parties from Kyoto to Paris, from Millennium Development and Sustainability Goals to CITES, to Climate Talks by our worlds leading conservationists and scientists, we fail to fully commit to cleaning up our individual and collective act. We keep setting the bar for culpability and responsibility lower, and cooperation and sanctions farther afield down the timeline. From benchmarks set in 2000, to 2020, to 2050, we keep thinking we can dodge Day Zero. We are closer now to the proverbial Midnight than we were a half-century ago. Granted, since the 1960s and the recognition of a Silent Spring, we have accomplished a tremendous amount, albeit out of balance. What we must ask ourselves now, is are we doing all that we can? Today with Ashwell Glasson we discuss the water crisis in Cape Town, where the distance between comfort and discomfort has hit home right at the tap in a cosmopolitan 1st world city, and that we are all facing Day Zero.
For the sake of frame of reference, our discussion is focused around rhino conservation as it holds markers of all that is changing and is at stake. The conversation takes multiple twists and turns as we unravel layers and identify the players toward new world vision that can redefine the benchmark of health and wealth in passing the torch to new generations. Rather than a revision of what doesn't work; solutions that resonate and engender cross-cultural participation at all levels of society, augmented with new tool kits and skill sets for an holistic–earth one-health operating system.
In any plans for the future of African wildlife and its conservation, it is critical to understand the moving parts at play in the background. National and international politics and finances are continuously and strategically moving on the global game-board of who has wildlife and who wants it. Hunters, zoos, tourism to ecosystems and health - all are players in this global game of chess. Today, with my guest Ashwell Glassson, we pull back the curtain to peer at the tectonic movements of how this game is being played and what is at stake against the backdrop of recent real-world shifts in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, S. Africa and China. As governments and policies use wildlife as the chess pieces, wildlife advocates and activists have the ability and opportunities to shape our efforts and update outmoded models. Conservation is no longer just about science, habitat and biology; we have species survival figured out. The future of conservation lies in the dynamics of people today.
Today's conversation spans across the past several months pointing ways forward. It appears that since S. Africa lifted the moratorium rhino horn trade, the deadly attacks on wild rhino has continued. In just the past few weeks 23 were slaughtered, 9 of those in a single incident in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi National Park. This forcefully underscores the immediate need to fill the gaps, and create concrete plans, transnational policy and actionable strategies that encompass a multitude of dimensions. In globalized world this sustained assault on Earth's resources, people, and wildlife requires we start digging much deeper into what drives the human dimension, because, after all, if it weren't for people, we wouldn't need conservation. Conservation 2.0 requires we include all layers of society- from technology and military to the social scientists, historians and psychologists, providing connectivity between human- animal and environmental relationships.
