It might be hard to believe, but the GMC Terrain is entering its 15th model year. Kicking off in 2010, the Terrain filled the void left by the departing Envoy. Now, fifteen years since its launch, the third-generation Terrain has joined GMC showrooms. Like its predecessor, the Terrain sticks with a small, turbocharged four-cylinder that displaces 1.5 liters. This four-cylinder mill carries the same basic specs as the outgoing engine: 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, in all-wheel-drive trim. The front-wheel-drive models are mated to a CVT, and the team at GMC dropped peak torque to 184 lb-ft. The team at GMC also shaved away some of the possibly confusing entry-level trims, and now start the Terrain at the Elevation level. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the 2025 GMC Terrain and puts it through its paces. Murphy takes you on a tour of this new, third-generation Terrain and highlights some of his new favorite features. Later, Murphy takes you on a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Murphy chats with host Wesley Wren about the GMC Terrain, the health of the midsize crossover space, and more. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2025 GMC Terrain special.

Tom opened the show complaining about people who spend too much time considering their selections at donut shops, specifically at Spunky Dunkers in Palatine, IL, when Tom is trying to pick up a 6-pack on his way to the studio. In a follow up to last week's Ford Explorer review, Jill and Tom turned their attention to cars, and the news that GMC will be reducing the number of Terrain compact crossover trim levels to three for 2026, and just one for 2025. This is a follow up to Jill's Explorer review from last episode, in which the hosts noted that Ford is slashing the number of that vehicle's trim levels from eight to just four. Jill shared her drive impressions of the new-for-2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe. The 4-door midsize crossover deviates from the existing GV80 with its rakish roofline, more upscale trappings, and unique, higher-performance engine. In the second segment, Jill and Tom welcome Dan Sampson of the Los Angeles Auto Show to the podcast. During a great conversation, Dan addressed the notion that auto shows are going through a period of decline, shared news about new and returning brands to the show, and shared details regarding online access to the proceedings. The L.A. Show kicks off in late November. In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Real or Fake Auto Show” quiz, including a pumpkin-spice bonus question.

After a days-long search, a 34-year-old teacher who was allegedly kidnapped while on the run was apparently found dead this week. The Memphis Police Department was summoned at 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 2 to help the University of Memphis Police Department in identifying a missing person, Eliza "Liza" Fletcher. Fletcher was jogging at Central and Zach Curlin around 4:20 a.m. when a "unknown man approached her" and "forced" her into an SUV, according to Memphis Police. Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested two days later on accusations of exceptionally aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence, but Fletcher remained missing. During the investigation, Cleotha's brother, Mario Abston, was reportedly detained on drug charges, but he is "not believed to be involved to Fletcher's kidnapping." According to inmate records, Abston is also charged with identity theft, tampering with/faking evidence, theft of property, and fraudulent use/illegal possession of a credit/debit card. On Tuesday, September 6, Memphis Police said they discovered Fletcher's body in the 1600 block of Victor Street and charged Abston with first-degree murder and first-degree murder in the commission of kidnapping, in addition to the other criminal charges he faces. In a press conference on Tuesday, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis and other law enforcement officials said that Fletcher's remains had been discovered in an abandoned duplex in South Memphis. According to WREG-TV Abston was allegedly spotted cleaning out his black SUV near where Fletcher was discovered. During the press conference, Davis stated that detectives "haven't obtained very much information" from Abston during questioning. According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Fletcher was a junior kindergarten teacher at St. Mary's Episcopal School and previously taught at Promise Academy in Nashville. Her spouse, Richard Fletcher III, and she have two children. He reported her missing after she did not return from her run a few hours later. According to the Commercial Appeal's affidavit, Fletcher was running on the University of Memphis campus when a black GMC Terrain drove by her and paused, waiting for her to pass. According to the affidavit, "A male left the black GMC Terrain, raced aggressively at the victim, and then forced Eliza Fletcher into the vehicle's passenger side. There looked to be a fight throughout this kidnapping." Abston was released from prison in November 2020 after serving a 24-year sentence for aggravated abduction. Fletcher's grandpa, Joseph "Joe" Orgill III, controlled a large hardware distribution empire, according to WREG. In a statement, Fletcher's family said, "This terrible loss has broken our hearts and devastated us. Liza brought excitement to everyone she met, including her family, friends, colleagues, students, parents, members of her Second Presbyterian Church congregation, and everyone else who knew her. Now is the moment to remember and celebrate how amazing she was, as well as to assist those who loved her so deeply. We are grateful for all of the messages of love and care that have been sent our way. We are eternally grateful to local, state, and federal law enforcement for their persistent efforts to find Liza and bring the perpetrator of this heinous act to justice. We hope that everyone, especially media representatives, understands the family's need to grieve privately and without outside interference during this difficult time." In this segment... The Memphis Police Department announced last night on Twitter that a body was found “in the 1600 block of Victor,” which is near the place where Eliza Fletcher was abducted while jogging in Memphis last week. The identity of the body and the cause of death had not been revealed by authorities as of last night. Authorities say 34-year-old Fletcher was jogging around 4 a.m. on Friday when a man approached her and forced her into an SUV after a brief struggle. A witness told police they saw Cleotha Abston cleaning blood out of a GMC Terrain with floor cleaner and washing his clothes, acting strangely. Abston was arrested on Saturday, with his arraignment set for today.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"Claremont is an amazing place to live...so many opportunities here to be involved in real and meaningful and impactful ways" is how Deborah Kekone, Claremont Educational Foundation's Immediate Past President, describes our vintage shire. In this interview, Deborah recounts her path from visiting Claremont as a teenager to moving here and then becoming deeply involved and contributing to the Claremont community in a variety of volunteer, community-improvement programs. Most notable among them is her leadership at the Claremont Educational Foundation, where she is currently one of the core team organizing and promoting the annual CEF Car Raffle event. In the most recent years, the raffle has been a runaway success, selling out all 5000 tickets, and supporting CEF's mission "to protect and enrich quality public education in Claremont..." by donating the raffles' funds directly to the music, art and science programs in Claremont's public elementary, middle and high schools. CEF's funding makes many key programs possible that could not otherwise exist, and has kept Claremont's fine teachers on staff during times when extremely tight budgets would not have been able to support them. CEF's efforts have provided over $3.7 million to our schools over their three decades of service, maintaining the quality of the education Claremont's students receive, and adding measurably and directly to the value of living in Claremont. Enjoy Deborah's sincere, inspiring and informative interview. Then, go ahead, take a chance at winning a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, Buick Encore, or GMC Terrain from this year's sponsors, Rotolo Chevrolet/Caposio Buick | GMC, and meeting legendary Dodger pitcher Orel Hirshiser as well. Either way, don't hesitate to tell Deborah how much you liked her interview when you see her at a CEF function, City Council meeting, or any one of the many opportunities she takes to make Claremont a better place.===========================================Links:Claremont Educational Foundation(909) 399-1709info@supportcef.comRaffle information, where to buy ticketshttp://www.supportcef.com/raffle/

This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Saturday, August 14 and Sunday, August 15. Besides the fact that our area desperately needs rain that it's not going to get, this weekend is going to be pretty nice weather wise. According to the National Weather Service it will be sunny Saturday with a high near 83 degrees. On Sunday it will be sunny again, with a high near 84 degrees. The evenings will be clear, with calm winds and lows in the fifties. The superintendent of the Boys State Training School in Eldora resigned last week amid an investigation at the school. Wendy Leiker, who was appointed to the job Aug. 28, 2020, was not asked to resign, but “offered her resignation in the course of an investigation,” Iowa Department of Human Services Spokesman Matt Highland said in a statement Thursday. DHS Director Kelly Garcia said at a meeting Thursday she had appointed Jason Sodders, a deputy to Leiker, as interim superintendent at the residential school for delinquent boys ages 12 to 18. Police are investigating reports of multiple gunshots fired Friday afternoon in southeast Cedar Rapids. Officers responded just after 2 p.m. to the 1500 block of Eighth Avenue SE where they found a 2011 GMC Terrain sport utility vehicle damaged by gunfire. Police said the vehicle was parked and unoccupied. Spent shell casings were located. No injuries were reported. Based on the preliminary investigation, police said a red, newer model Ford Mustang with two occupants — believed to have been involved — headed north on 15th Street SE. Police located the unoccupied car a short time later. Old MacDonald's Farm in Bever Park closed for the season Friday because of a shortage of seasonal staff. All of the animals at the farm will be returned to their owners. Movie Night and Goat Yoga classes are canceled. The waterfowl exhibit will stay open daily through Oct. 6. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids has adjusted its visitor guidelines, effective as of Friday, as COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are rising due to the spread of the Delta variant, officials said in a news release. Among the new guidelines: all inpatient admissions will be tested for COVID-19, patient visitation hours will be limited to 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m, and most areas will return to a maximum of one visitor at a time. At Iowa Hawkeye Media Day Friday players and coaches stressed the importance of being dialed in on day one. The season starts with a nationally ranked Big Ten opponent in Indiana on September 4, and things don't get any easier with nationally ranked rival Iowa State the following week. As a developmental program at heart, Iowa has traditionally had slow starts to seasons as it seeks to figure itself out. Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz said the process remains the same, just the urgency is a little different. “This is the start of camp, and what's really important about it is now for us to figure out what our identity is going to be, see how it shapes and see how guys are moving along,” Ferentz said. “And it's day to day, I can assure you that, like it is every year. It's a process, and there are good days, bad days. If you want to hear more about this, and you love all things Iowa Football, don't miss Leah Vann's Talkin Hawks Newsletter.
