Welcome back! We're bringing in 2025 (and with it a new, exciting lineup of guests) with an oldie but a goldie - Eoin Boylan. Eoin first visited us fireside in 2022, and we are delighted to have him back for an update on all he's been up to since our first chat. SDK strategy can be divisive, with some business strategies being to avoid the topic altogether - but Eoin, who's currently working as the Head Engineer at Evervault, finds them to be worth their salt as an investment. Evervault is a data security platform focusing on the payment space, serving as a one-stop-shop for developers. At their core, they remain developer first, retaining the knowledge from their early days, but now applying it to a more specific group of buyers. While we have time, we may touch on the current state of developer knowledge, and how, as useful as it may be, how ChatGPT may be influencing our bidding developers for the worst. My guest this week is Kevin Paul, who started in the music business as a DJ, but then discovered sound engineering and immediately knew that was his true calling. Starting at Soho Studios in London, he later moved to the Kink's own Konk Studios. At Konk, he worked alongside a bevy of successful producers and engineers, as well as bands such as The Kinks, Galliano, Terrorvision, UFO and Elastica. After working on archiving the Depeche Mode back catalogue in 1994, he was offered an engineering role at Mute Records' in-house studio, which eventually lead to a position as Head Engineer. Since 2008, Kevin has been in charge of mixing and remixing the exclusive performances at the coveted iTunes Festival UK and Germany events. He has mixed over 100 artists to date including David Bowie, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Calvin Harris, Foo Fighters, Jack White, Linkin Park, Florence & The Machine, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Norah Jones, Oasis, Mumford & Sons, Paul Weller and many more. During the interview we spoke about the producer that influenced him the most, why he worries about immersive audio being accepted, his views on audio education, where mixing and mastering will be in 10 years, and much more. I spoke with Kevin via Zoom from his studio in the UK. On the intro I'll take a look at Spotify skip rates, the one super-important metric that's still a secret, and AI-driven ChatGPT codes up an Ibanez Tube Screamer plugin.

This was our viewer's time to ask questions over on Instagram and allow us to ask them to Mr. Armstrong. This conversation was a very free-form conversation and we brushed up on many cool topics and really delved deep into Aptera's mission to create a completely sustainable and forward-thinking way of producing vehicles not just to be clean on the road, but from production to recycling. The formula for a successful business revolves around the problems it’s able to solve. Recognizing pain points for potential customers is key, but the formula for how those issues are addressed is what differentiates an average product from a great one. When it came to mountain bikes, there were a lot of brands in the world, building good bikes, but none of them were providing the highly specialized components that some avid riders were looking for. To really make a dent in an industry requires more than a passive interest in the product. You have to have an obsession, something that really drives you towards evolution. You have to want it even if you’re only creating for yourself. It takes vision to solve a problem, but it takes a visionary to solve it well. And if you build it, they will come. My guest today is P.J. Tolentino, Founder and Head Engineer at Rurok Industries. Tolentino is the textbook example of someone who transformed their passion into a career. He and his team have built a successful company by dreaming up all the ways to make mountain bikes better, and then actually doing it. Their hyper-focused attention to detail has made their bikes stand out from the crowd. In this episode, we talk about how Rurok Industries got their start and the team’s unparalleled passion for the sport. Their dedication to constant innovation continues to pedal this specialized brand of mountain bikes forward as they swiftly gain global brand recognition. My guest today is Steve Chadie who began his career as an intern at Willie Nelson's Pedernales recording studio in 1995, quickly working his way up to Assistant Engineer for Larry Greenhill. Upon Greenhill’s departure, he took on the position of Head Engineer, capitalizing on the learning opportunities presented while working alongside many producers including John Porter, Paul Leary and a recurring 14-year stint with legendary producer Andy Johns. Born to Ira & Ambie Kilburn in 1991, Caleb Kilburn was raised in Salt Lick, a rural eastern Kentucky town, on his family’s dairy farm. These years taught him the meaning of hard work and endowed him with an impressive array of mechanical skills which would prove invaluable later in life when he was called on to help build Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. After graduating Valedictorian of his high school class in Bath Co., he attended Morehead State University where he pursued his love for the sciences. It was during this time that Caleb became fascinated with the art of distillation. He claimed it to be the perfect balance of chemistry, biology, & physics. His fascination led him to obsessively research the process & science of distillation. His research went beyond traditional means, as he attended many of the distillery tours in the area, requesting opportunities to shadow at several of them. In 2013, between his college sophomore & junior years, Caleb paid his way through a Distiller’s course offered by the Distilled Spirits Epicenter, in Louisville, KY. It was during this course that Caleb befriended 2 of the instructors who would later become his mentors. Rob Sherman, President of Vendome Copper & Brass Work in Louisville, KY, & Pete Kamer, the retired Head Engineer of Barton Brands in Bardstown, KY. Each provided Caleb with educational opportunities and advice over the course of the next year. In the summer of 2014, each mentor recommended Caleb work with the startup Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. Originally assigned to general construction tasks, Caleb quickly proved his valor by persistently taking on more and more responsibilities. Thanks to his upbringing and research, he was more than capable of managing the installation of the mechanical systems & distilling equipment. By the end of summer, Carson & Corky Taylor, the family ownership of Kentucky Peerless, formally offered Caleb the position of Head Distiller. Caleb balanced the latter portions of the construction with his last semester of college, during which he developed the computer control system that was integral to Peerless’ creation of an exceptional whiskey. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Chemistry, & then started full time at Kentucky Peerless the following week. After several months of preparation, on March 4th, 2015, Caleb distilled Peerless’ 1st barrel of whiskey in 98 years. In the Fall of 2017, his dream continued as Peerless’ Kentucky Straight Rye earned industry-wide respect when it was named the #15 whiskey in the world by the Whiskey Advocate. Despite his uncanny intellect & meteoric rise in the craft spirits’ world, Caleb remains modest regarding his accomplishments. He doesn’t consider himself a Master Distiller and is quick to correct anyone who mistakenly calls him one. He states he holds that revered title for his idols and heroes. Humility aside, as one of the youngest distillers in the history of the industry, Caleb has produced some handcrafted whiskey that rivals the finest in the world.

Marietta Stories | Crazy cool stories from the community builders of Marietta, Georgia
Ok, could you build a team, website, learn to aerodynamically build a balsa wood race car, find sponsors and compete in a national race? This week on Marietta Stories, I interview Arul Gupta and Poojan Mehta, 15 year old guys who were part of a team that, constructed a car from styrofoam, created a website, found sponsors, and competed nationally through F1 in schools. F1 in Schools is a worldwide competition consisting of several teams of kids aged 11-18. In this highly competitive league, teams of 3-6 develop cars utilizing computer aided design and other related tools. However, the complexity of what we do reaches beyond mere engineering and into business/marketing, graphic design, and possibly most importantly if considering real-world application, team management and cooperation. Then, each of these skill sets developed throughout the team process is put to the test at regional, national, and world level competitions. As a result, F1 in Schools has created a system which effectively develops and enhances students’ learning experience through their interests as well as by teaching necessary real-world situations/applications. Arul is a rising junior at Wheeler High School and has chosen to partake in F1 in Schools to further his knowledge and experience with business communication/management skills. He is the Team Lead which entails a variety of tasks from team time management, to ensuring accuracy/value of all work, to constantly keeping the team organized and on task. He is able to bring to the team a background in a variety of areas through classes such as AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, and an intro to Business/Tech class. Arul also has qualities of leadership and competitiveness which he adds to AeroFlow through his spot as Team Captain on the High School Varsity Tennis Team, as well as through national-level tournament competition. Poojan is a rising junior at Wheeler High School and the Head Engineer on the F1 in Schools AeroFlow Racing team. He strives to accomplish CADing and building an F1 car that can exceed expectations. His decision to take on this role come from the valuable skills and knowledge he has attained in classes such as AP Physics 1 and 2, Engineering Concepts, and Intro to Drafting and Design. Poojan possesses the important characteristics of dedication, time management, and leadership abilities which he has utilized so successfully as a build member on BEST Robotics and the Wheeler Track and Field Team.
