Description: As a former TV producer turned novelist, Sophie Cousens' books have been published in over 20 languages. Her previous novels—including This Time Next Year and Before I Do—have delighted readers around the world with their warmth, humor, and honest portrayal of love in all its messy, beautiful forms. Today, we sit down with Sophie to discuss her decade of experience producing some of our favorite TV shows like The Graham Norton Show and Big Brother and how that valuable experience behind the scenes in television shaped the way she now tells stories as a novelist, allowing her to thread the needle between heartfelt and funny, heartwarming and satirical. We talk about her approach to writing—does she prefer to start with a character or a plot?--as well as how she brilliantly employs a variety of familiar rom-com setups (friends-to-lovers, missed connections, etc.) yet, they never feel overt or cliché. If you've ever tried to date post-divorce, juggled motherhood with figuring out who the heck you even are anymore, or questioned whether love in your 40s is even worth it—you're going to enjoy today's conversation about our June JHBC selection, Is She Really Going Out With Him? With nods to fairy tales, dating apps, and the iconic Joe Jackson song that inspired the title, the book asks: how do you start over when you're not 22 anymore—and how do you know when it's real? Thought-provoking Quotes: “I've been a producer on shows that were much more produced—you've got a script, you've got a plan, you know exactly what you're getting; whereas with [Big Brother] we were just dealing with real people and real people's emotions and the experience of being in this slight madhouse.” – Sophie Cousens “Tropes are enduring because they are beloved. Sometimes, that word has a negative connotation but, in this case, it's not true. These are story tropes that readers love. I love how you talk about them and go, no, I'm not going to steer away from them or try to reinvent them or try to avoid them. I'm going to go full-in.” – Jen Hatmaker “I absolutely love films of that 90s and 2000s era. That's very much the tone in which I write. I think there's something pure and simple about that era of films, which is why so many of them are enduring.” – Sophie Cousens Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Russel Howard's Good News - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00phwkz The Graham Norton Show - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006xnzc Big Brother - https://www.cbs.com/shows/big_brother/ Notting Hill (1999) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125439/ Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding - https://amzn.to/4dJsJ6y Just Haven't Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens - https://amzn.to/45IC4tt And Then There Was You by Sophie Cousens COMING NOVEMBER 2025 - https://amzn.to/3Fq5SR4 Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion (1997) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120032/ Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton) - https://www.instagram.com/claudiajessies/?hl=en Atmosphere: A Love Story by Taylor Jenkins Reid - https://amzn.to/4mYRzUk Great, Big, Beautiful Life by Emily Henry - https://amzn.to/43IRYTp Julia Whelan, audio narrator - https://jmwhelan.com/narrator/ The Husbands: A Novel by Holly Gramazio - https://amzn.to/4dQnNx5 Holly Bourne, author - https://hollybourne.co.uk/ Guest's Links: Website - https://www.sophiecousens.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/sophie_cousens/ Twitter - https://x.com/sophiecous Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/sophiecousensauthor Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy. Alright Y2K peeps, this one is just for us! This is the LIVE recording of my 4-hour vinyl set for our 25th high school reunion held at XPERIENCE Lounge at Boston Bowl in Dorchester, MA on June 13, 2025. This features tracks exclusively from fall of 1996 through spring of 2000, from all genres, that I used to play at high school dances — this time all mixed on wax, for us as fully grown humans. Katherine: "You have Hanson?" Me: "Sorry KK! I already played Hanson!" Katherine: "No, I mean — you HAVE Hanson? Like, on vinyl? How do you HAVE Hanson?" Recorded ...

Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's June, so that means it's time for our “Junesis” series! Where we cover movies based on/revolving around video games! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest K-Tron discuss the wildly chaotic and divisive 1993 video game adaptation, Super Mario Bros.!The first real video game movie! No Chris Pratt! Cute little bombs! Conspiracy-theorist Luigi! Brotherly love! Plentiful use of pyramid spikes! Full-sized bumper cars! Suspenseful ordering of the Koopa pizza special! Romantic WrestleMania plans! Nintendo and cigarette product placement! Questionable dinosaur-birthing methods! Scantily clad dancers in a kid's movie! Enough fungus to put The Last Of Us to shame! Incredibly dangerous city streets! Police issued flamethrowers! A fascinating soundtrack! A lovable cast that includes Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Samantha Mathis, Mojo Nixon, and Dennis Hopper doing T-Rex arms! A sequel tease and post-credits scene years before Marvel made them common! A visually insane movie with impressive sets and costume designs, an Oscar-winning cinematographer, and great dinosaur/creature FX that slightly predate Jurassic Park! All that and more in this endearingly uneven, cyberpunk-influenced adaptation that would have an even bigger cult following if it weren't for the shame of the creatives involved! In addition, K-Tron shares her spoiler-free thoughts on the horror comedy Slotherhouse, while Alex does the same for Bring Her Back, the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, the Shark serial killer thriller Dangerous Animals, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (with some additional thoughts from Tim)! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris and Tim Gardiner, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Twitter, Bluesky, or Letterboxd @actionharris. You can follow K-Tron's Mystery Movie Madness podcast on Instagram @mysterymoviemadness or Twitter @MysteryMovieMad. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. Well, well, well, what have we here? What's melting on the stove this week? And do you love me (now that I can drop and give you fifty)? We answer these questions and more as we reunite over Season 1, Episode 15 of Family Matters. Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.Join our countdown to number one (and our slow descent into madness) in all the places you expect internet people to be:Website: jumpingtheshuttle.spaceEmail: jumpingtheshuttle@gmail.comInstagram: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Twitter: @JumpingShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577TikTok: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Brought to you by Smooth My Balls

We can't wait to see you there. Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that will catch you time after time. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out and talk about why the 1997 comedy Romy and Michele's High School Reunion Should've Been Gay. After over 130 of these, we can honestly say that Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is in our top 5 of the gayest films we have ever seen. If you manage to interpret this movie as in any way heterosexual, we just have one question: why? Nothing about the plot makes any sense if these women are straight. We even have two bonus lesbians in supporting characters, Heather and our fav, Lisa Luder! With four queer women in this movie, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is practically a Lez-ssential. While we would agree it is a perfectly typical growing-up experience to make a pact to marry your bestie should either of you not still be married by the age of 30 (at least it was in the 90s), it is less typical when you make that pact at 28 years old. That's just a proposal at that point. Romy and Michele are essentially engaged and you cannot convince us otherwise. In this essay, we will… j/k, but we know one thing for sure, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion Should've Been Gay. We are heading to France from March 31st through April 6th for this year's BIG GAY TRIP! Join Ellie and Leigh for a vacay to Bordeaux and Paris where we will tour a winery, explore the catacombs, and dance the night away at the best gay bars. Make a 25% deposit by January 1st to secure your spot on the trip. Space is limited, so sign up soon! Give us your own answers to our Q & Gay on Instagram and follow along on Facebook, TikTok, and BlueSky @lezhangoutpod. There's a lot going on in the Big Wig world between live shows, a major throwback moment, Bravolebrities and strict drug rituals. We start off recapping the All-Star Joan Rivers Tribute Show Anna attended. She details running into a particular tight leather dressed Cabaret Bravolebrity that was so welcoming and kind. Then we go down memory lane as Anna details her high school reunion that definitely didn't feel like a reunion. Most people dread going to a school function, but not when everyone's hot, not single, but ready to mingle. Plus she shows off her Senior portrait photo that is shockingly so on brand. Dre recently met a woman prepping for an Ayahuasca trip and you'de think she was training for a marathon with the extremely strict diet required. Also, who is headed to Miami for Bravo Fan Fest next week? Dre announces she's attending and hopes to see you all there! It's a BIg Wigs X Bravo crossover this week because Luanne and Teresa G stop by the studio to talk Luanne's top charting songs, dissolving lip fillers and cooking French VS. Italian Cuisines. Watch all previous Celeb Catch-ups plus Luanne and Teresa on Youtube and follow Anna & Dre for more content.
