In their journey of self discovery, they learn that women have always led the charge when it comes to songs about self-pleasure, leaving men in the dark. Join Tommy Two Tones and Titillating Ty as they work hand-in-glove to put their finger on the reasons for this shocking discrepancy. This conversation was a little edgy, but so illuminating for me. I connect with Jaclyn Foster, the insightful author of "I Touch Myself" and we navigate awkward waters with laughter and REAL talk. There is more to consider with the intricacies of self-love and the art of body awareness. Plus, we get into the confusing paradox of our response to pleasure; we can desire unhealthy behaviors like overeating or excessive drinking and also instinctively shut down overwhelmingly positive sensations, such as those experienced during a sexual encounter. So much to unpack, join the conversation…Our Guest's BioJaclyn is known as The Provocateur of Love, on a mission to support women to dissolve shame and fear, so they can fall wildly in love with life and their relationships. She is a published author of the book, I Touch Myself, Lessons to Wake Up Desire & Fire Up Your Sex Drive; a book that's all about her journey of following desire and unpacking the pull to follow rules and be a good girl. We've arrived! It's the season seven finale to determine the next super mondo champion of champions! Sure, this game opens with a round based on sweaty wordplay, with round two building into a series metatextual mashup clues that combine multiple mediums. And yes, it culminates in a lightning round where the leaderboard is constantly shifting. But this is the finals, darnit, so returning champs Liz, Derek, and Matthew are all operating at a very high level, so the competition cannot be more tense. I had to stop writing this episode description to go pat myself down with a cool wet towel just from recalling how intense everything got. And I'm working from home today, so I forgot to put on Old Spice, so now the sweat has really cooked up a nasty stench in my general vicinity. And when it comes to straight up B.O., I wouldn't necessarily say that everyone loves their own brand
So have you ever thought about your favorite song and your favorite artist who DOESN'T sing that song but you really wish he had? Welcome to the episode where Annie and I make some brave wish lists of Cover Songs we really, really, REALLY would like to see recorded. Some of our inspo comes from concerts we've seen, where we've been surprised by a tune someone "got away with," like Pink covering "I Touch Myself"... Or maybe it's the way Alanis Morissette sways back and forth around the stage that makes me think of Mike Patton from Faith No More... Or maybe it's a disco classic that SCREAMS Madonna...and that would hopefully cover up the funk she got from covering "American Pie..." But regardless - we LOVED this conversation and we hope you do too! Love our ideas and choices? Hate them? Either way, we want to hear from you! Shoot us an email at hello@thetopfivepodcast.com and give us your thoughts! We will seriously share them in a future episode!!
You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, I Touch Myself... it's our picks for the best collection of songs with the words "Touch" or "Feel" in the title.
Season 2: Episode 10 Billy Steinberg Welcome to Season 2, Episode 10 of Song Chronicles. Our special guest is Songwriter Hall of Fame member Billy Steinberg, who with collaborator Tom Kelly wrote many Number 1 hits including "Like a Virgin" by Madonna, "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper, "So Emotional" by Whitney Houston, "Alone" by Heart, and "Eternal Flame" by The Bangles. The duo also co-wrote "I'll Stand By You" with Chrissie Hynde and "I Touch Myself" with Christine Amphlett and Mark McEntee of The Divinyls. Billy Steinberg and Cyndi Lauper in Finland, 1988. Billy's first hit song was "How Do I Make You," which Linda Ronstadt decided to record after hearing demos from Steinberg's band Billy Thermal. In our conversation, Billy shares how he found out Rondstadt would record the song which later reached the Billboard Top 10. Billy Thermal's unreleased 1980 album In 1981, Steinberg began a momentous collaboration with songwriter Tom Kelly, with whom he wrote many memorable hits of the 80s and 90s. Billy shares how he and Tom found their groove as co-writers and how they always tried to write to make themselves happy rather than customizing songs for potential artists. Their breakout hit was "Like A Virgin," the title track of Madonna's second album. You'll hear Billy's personal story behind the lyrics to "Like A Virgin" and what it meant for him to hear the song sung by an Italian nun, directed at God. Billy Steinberg, Tom Kelly, and Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, 1992. Steinberg's lyrics resonate throughout the years because their themes are universal — which is different from being general or bland, as we discuss. We also talk about how the Brill Building Era inspired him to become a songwriter. Billy has gone on to write with many other songwriters, including frequent collaborator Josh Alexander with whom he co-write "Give Your Heart a Break" by Demi Lovato and "Too Little Too Late" by Jojo. They have also written numerous songs with the artist LP, whom Steinberg calls "a female Roy Orbison." Billy Steinberg and LP Enjoy this interview with Billy Steinberg on what makes songs that stand the test of time.
Well, it was exciting as all get out (60 yd FG to tie the game) and depressing as all hell (losing in dbl OT)... but the BOYS are back to talk all about it! They talk Beaver sports for the week (Yeah! Men's soccer!), talk week #10 in Pac12 football, Beej wants to you to listen to I Touch Myself, Billy hands out a Jack Ass award, they look at Week 11, the Stanford game, Sausagefest 2021, and Beej has ANOTHER horrible date story (actually 2 this week!) Enjoy
Have no fear, masturbation month is here! Fresh out of another threesome, Claire puts on her sex educator hat to share some fun tidbits she learned in a seminar celebrating Masturbation May. All the excitement even got her back on Feeld. Jessie, on the other hand, had 2 video dates that made her say, "I'm done." Maybe it's because she wants to celebrate the month alone or maybe it's because she's on day 8 of a detox. Be still and know that I am love. I thought about calling this one, "When I Think of Me, I Touch Myself," but I thought otherwise. I talk about falling in love with the state of my wish fulfilled often. Today, I tell you about the day I fell madly in love with my body, even with all the wrinkly, achy, and jiggly bits.
I Touch Myself, Come On Eileen, Macarena, No Rain, Just a Friend. What do they all have in common??

You see it at press conferences, even though health officials tell us not to touch our faces . . . they do it anyway. So we've put together a parody to remind you . . . (even though out of habit, you probably still will.) This is a pretty factual song parody to the tune of "I Touch Myself" by The Divinyls.

Dog park drama, how to park downtown without getting a ticket, more rule changes for cyclists... and a bunch of bloopers because we were in a very silly mood today

In the early 90's access television really started to kick into high gear all around the country, as evidenced by the Saturday Night Live skit Wayne's World. And that became so popular that it spun off into 2 feature length films. Before Dave, there was Scott Spurlock. He first caught me and my friends attention on ACTV with his show Dull-a-Vision; where he showed music videos, something akin to Headbangers Ball. But one fateful night in 1991, he went too far and showed us kids something that blew our minds! It was his edited video for this song "Rivers" from Skinny Puppy. It was too far! This was also the time of censorship and anti- obscenity and decency issues, spurred by Luke Skywalker and 2 Live Crew in Florida. Also, in Florida, poor Pee Wee Herman was arrested for watching a movie, albeit a dirty move. And Tipper Gore, her group was busy putting Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics labels on CDs and tapes. Heck, the Australian rock band, the Divinyls were warned not to play their hit song "I Touch Myself" at their appearance at the Austin Aqua Fest on Town Lake, but near the end of the set, they did anyway. Their mic was cut and lead singer Chrissy Amphlett was dragged off stage by security, yep that's about as far as they got, too. And here is how the crowed reacted. And here is what the police claimed, but it was not too loud. But back to ACTV, where you could pay like $50 bucks, sign some forms and take a couple classes and you too could broadcast live on Austin television sets. ACTV, it gave rise to Alex Jones and Infowars, as you can hear him sitting in on the show with Dave: Here is a conspiracy for you; some folks think that the comedian Bill Hicks didn't actually die in 1994, but instead became Alex Jones. There are some similarities in appearance and like mindedness of both tone and topic. Dave Pruitt who did the final interview with Bill Hicks. But Dave, not only would he play hard rock music videos, but he would also take the ACTV cameras and equipment to local shows and showcase mostly local, but also national touring bands. He has recorded so many, please go out and find him at DaveTV on Youtube. He recorded everybody, but back in the day it was the likes of Pariah, Agony Column, Dangerous Toys, D.R.I., deadhorse, Retarded Elf, FUCKEMOS, Harrem Scarrum, Little Miss Dangerous, Onyxx, the Bad Livers and Dancyr. Yeah, Nathan Olivarez, he was there, too. Dave's partner in crime! However, I read in the Austin Chronicle that Dave has left the building. We wish you luck Dave! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tiny-curations-deep-dives/message
Sal and Bob stay close to home and visit Volare Ristorante in Wixom, Michigan. The One Hit Wonder is "I Touch Myself" by the Divinyls. Much idiocy centers around the guys talking about touching themselves. Sal explains the meaning of the word Volare. Sal bets Bob $100 bucks that he won't go to karaoke and sing I Touch Myself. They mention their mutual friend Rusty Thomas who runs a karaoke in Flint. The episode features a Lori Loughlin update, as well as an update on Julian Assange's dating profile. Both guys yap about the pizza hero, and Sal laments another losing day at the track because he ignored God's advice. Bob talks about recording his new CD, and both guys round out the episode with a funny edition of the Whine List. Stupid fun! Give it a listen. Last week, we put sleigh bells behind Aerosmith's 'Sweet Emotion' and it made the song sound super Christmasy. So we came to the conclusion that adding bells to any song instantly makes it a Christmas song We put that theory to the test today by adding it to the background of 'I Touch Myself' by The Divinyls (and some Alanis tunes)
Sure, it started as a song about masturbation, that's true. (And, to be fair, a song about love and devotion). Joey, Kevin, and Scotty discuss the latest feature film from the director of the music video for the song "I Touch Myself" by Divinyls. Let's sell some toys and cars!
After Linda Ronstadt scored a Top 10 hit with Billy Steinberg’s “How Do I Make You” in 1980, he went on to score a series of chart-topping singles co-written with Tom Kelly, including “Like a Virgin” by Madonna, “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper, “Alone” by Heart, "So Emotional" by Whitney Houston, and “Eternal Flame” by the Bangles. Additional Top 10 hits from the Steinberg/Kelly songbook include “In Your Room” by the Bangles, “I Touch Myself” by Divinyls, “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders, and “I Drove All Night,” which was a major international hit three different times, first by Cyndi Lauper, then by Roy Orbison, and, finally, by Celine Dion. After Tom Kelly retired from the music business, Steinberg partnered with Rick Nowels, with whom he won a Grammy for their work on the title track to Celine Dion’s multiplatinum Falling Into You album in 1996. Since the mid-2000s, Billy has written extensively with Josh Alexander, with whom he penned JoJo's Top 5 pop hit "Too Little Too Late" and Demi Lovato’s “Give Your Heart a Break." Additionally, the pair partnered with songwriter/producer – and previous Songcraft guest - Toby Gad for Nicole Scherzinger's #1 UK chart-topper "Don't Hold Your Breath.” Other artists who’ve contributed to Steinberg’s long list of Billboard charting singles include Pat Benatar, Tina Turner, Susanna Hoffs, Chicago, Bette Midler, Ace of Base, Phil Collins, Katharine McPhee, Carrie Underwood, and many others. Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011.
Hello Fellow Music Lovers, It's that time of year again – the holidays. It can be an amazing time to be with family and loved ones, but for many, it can also be a very depressing and trying time of year. I hope that every one of you can use the power of music to try to make it through any tough times you may be experiencing. And also, use music's inherent joy as a tool for celebration. I'm excited that my podcast has finally started to take off – since November 1st it's had over 10,000 downloads! DJing can be a very lonely road that requires a lot of sacrifice.
