Brett Trembly is a business attorney and the founder of Trembly Law Firm in Miami. He's also the co-founder of Get Staffed Up, a company that provides virtual staff to law firms. Over the years, Brett built his firm from the ground up, shifting from litigation to business and franchise law. He scaled his team by learning how to delegate and eventually launched a second business focused on helping other lawyers do the same. His firm once grew 50–100% per year, and Get Staffed Up is now a major player in virtual legal staffing. In this episode, Brett talks about the struggles of running a law firm, the importance of hiring the right support early on, and how law school doesn't teach lawyers how to run a business. He also opens up about the toll litigation can take and how he built a life with more freedom and balance. Listen to this episode to learn why hiring an assistant might be the smartest first step for your practice, how to protect your time, and how small staffing decisions can create big changes in your work and life. Joel Katz, the Northeast U.S. Regional Director for the March of the Living, discusses the importance of never forgetting the Holocaust and the lessons it teaches us. He shares his personal experiences visiting concentration camps in Poland and the impact it had on him and the participants of the March of the Living program. Joel emphasizes the need for education and understanding to combat antisemitism and promote peace. He also discusses the recent conflict in Israel and the importance of standing up against hatred and violence. Key Takeaways: Education is key to combatting ignorance and promoting understanding. The Holocaust serves as a reminder of the atrocities that can occur when hatred and prejudice go unchecked. It is important to remember the past and learn from it to ensure that history does not repeat itself. Courage is born out of fear, and it is important to stand up against injustice and hatred. The power of education and storytelling can help change perspectives and promote peace. Quotes: "We must continue every minute of our life to keep teaching history, keep teaching good things, the morals, the ethics, the principles of good life and protect." - Joel Katz "You are a witness to the murder of 6 million Jews and 5 million other human beings that God placed here on this earth." - Joel Katz "We need to teach everyone else that God gave us good and evil." - Joel Katz "Never stop talking. Never stop giving them information. The facts that you find, the background that you found, share that with them." - Joel Katz "We must keep educating and arming away at them, whatever vehicle and tools we might have." - Joel Katz

lovethylawyer.comA transcript of this podcast is available at lovethylawyer.com.Kim KupfererFormer Alameda County Assistant Public Defender / Private Practitioner/ Death Penalty Defensehttps://www.imagineequus.org/I know that there is a lot of negativity associated with the practice of law in general. The truth is that it is rare that client's come to us because they are in a good place. It is often that we cross people's paths in their worst and most vulnerable moments. Perhaps, this is in part why the 2018 Lawyer Well-Being study showed we didn't have a lot of it. Beyond that, we work in a profession where we are continually expected to hold space for others, our own emotions have to constantly be quashed, we are expected to work unheard of hours and always win. Add to that then going home where we have children, husbands, partners, pets, parents and others relying on us with needs and expectations – and well, as you know, there are just never enough hours in a day. But we still do it and succeed day after day. The problem is that though we may appear wildly successful on the outside, inside there is no space left for us. Having been a heavy duty trial lawyer for 34 years, I understand. lovethylawyer.comA transcript of this podcast is available at lovethylawyer.com. Dannie De NovoNot too long ago, I was living the life that I thought everyone wanted to live. I had a good-paying job as an attorney, a husband, a house, and the most adorable baby girl. The problem was, though, that aside from the time I spent with my baby, I was actually pretty miserable. I was depressed but still functioning at a level of basic survival from day to day. The scariest part about this for me was that, growing up, I had suffered a very hard depression beginning in my teens and lasting through my early twenties. Not knowing any better and simply wanting to be free from the prison of my mind, at age 19, I dropped out of college and consented to weeks of the tortuous “treatment.” I set out on a course to be like everyone else and live happily ever after. Yet, I couldn't have been more unhappy. I remember one evening, mindlessly stirring a pot on the stove, lost in my misery. My eight-month-old was sitting on the kitchen floor playing with some pots and wooden spoons of her own. Suddenly, she looked up at me with her big brown eyes, picked up a pot and a spoon and started mimicking me! I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I bent down and said to her, “Yes! Just like Mommy!” And then, I fell to the floor. A crushing wave of nausea came over me and I was faint. It immediately became apparent to me that my daughter was watching me and copying everything I was doing, and what I was, in fact, doing was teaching her how to live a very depressed, lonely, anxious, unoriginal, and uninspired life. So, that day, I set out to learn what real happiness was because I could not bear the thought of my daughter ever having to go through what I had forced myself to endure for so long. I started studying happiness at the level I had once studied law—the spiritual side, the neuroscience side, the health side—everything I could get my hands on. I stopped being like everyone else and crafted my life the way I wanted to live it. To date, I have 3 bestselling books. (I have one international bestseller, Get in a Good Mood & Stay There, which chronicles my first steps of pulling myself out of depression, dealing with anxiety, and finding happiness.) I speak internationally, and I am now a television expert on multiple stations nationwide and have done well over 90 TV news and talk show appearances across the country.dannie@danniedenovo.com412-860-5241www.DannieDeNovo.com Louis Goodman www.louisgoodman.comhttps://www.lovethylawyer.com/510.582.9090 Musical theme by Joel Katz, Seaside Recording, Maui Technical support: Bryan Matheson, Skyline Studios, OaklandAudiograms & Transcripts: Paul Roberts We'd love to hear from you. She not only left her job at a large law firm to found her own boutique, Business Law Group, focusing on representing entrepreneurs, she also sold her home and most of her belongings and moved onto a sailboat. The question on her mind was this: Can lawyers truly work from anywhere? She discovered the answer over the next year while sailing her way down the Gulf of Mexico with her two dogs, Ava and Kadan, and her boyfriend, Rob. “He was really the captain and I was the first mate,” says Butler Schley. Their vessel, Stay Foolish, was a 44-foot Island Packet 420 sailboat, also called a monohull sailboat. It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and it was designed for long-term “blue water cruising,” as opposed to shorter excursions like coastal sailing. They officially set sail from New Orleans in December 2017. “The plan was to go all along the Gulf Coast,” she says. “We didn't have any place we had to be at a specific time. We were just going to let the adventure take us where it would.” Louis Goodman www.louisgoodman.comhttps://www.lovethylawyer.com/ 510.582.9090 Musical theme by Joel Katz, Seaside Recording, Maui Technical support: Bryan Matheson, Skyline Studios, OaklandAudiograms & Transcripts: Paul Roberts We'd love to hear from you. He prides himself in working on some of the most difficult cases and litigation projects with a tailored approach to each case. In addition to the numerous clients for whom he has achieved favorable results, Marshall has successfully argued a motion to dismiss on a life case which resulted in a dismissal of the charges and life enhancements. Effectively saving the client from life in prison, the case ended up settling for only 6 years.Marshall has argued successful motions to suppress evidence that resulted in dismissals. He regularly argues for bail release from jail over vehement objection by the prosecution. Marshall also has had domestic violence cases, DUIs, and theft cases dismissed by arguing for court diversion over DA objection, and saving the unnecessary criminalization of good people who made a mistake. As the firm's lead “post-conviction” attorney, he also has been able to get countless probations ended early, reduced felonies to misdemeanors, expunged records, sealed arrests, even vacated pleas due to immigration issues, and has removed clients from the sex offender registry. He graduated cum laude from U.C. Hastings College of the Law, and holds a B.A. English and a B.S. in Political Science from Santa Clara University. Before joining Silver Law Firm, Marshall was an integral part of Curtis Briggs' and J. Tony Serra's pro bono representation of California's longest serving Death Row inmate. As an unparalleled example of police, prosecutor, and other misconduct, Marshall learned first- hand how the system is stacked against the accused, and how important it is to have a team that will fight your case.In his final year of law school, Marshall interned at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office where he aided in the representation of numerous felony and misdemeanor cases and trials. Marshall will stop at nothing to get the best result possible.
