Send us a textEver wondered what happens when a $55 million budget collides with an incoherent script? Welcome to our horrified exploration of "In the Lost Lands," quite possibly one of the worst movies ever committed to film.Based on a George R.R. Martin short story (though you'd never guess it), this fantasy disaster stars Mila Jovovich as Gray Alice—an "illusionist witch" with unexplained face tattoos—and Dave Bautista as Boyce, a mysterious traveler with a cool two-headed snake that disappears from the plot almost immediately. We're told there's only one human city left after some apocalyptic event, yet somehow there's a fully functional train, random barrels of oil, and endless nonsensical plot developments. The film's world-building crumbles under even the lightest scrutiny. Why are slaves mining rocks? How does the economy work? Why does everyone abandon executions before they're complete? Nothing adds up, and the movie never bothers explaining itself. Meanwhile, characters develop romantic feelings out of nowhere, powers work differently in every scene, and the big twist—that Bautista's character is actually the werewolf they're hunting—is both obvious from the start and poorly executed. What truly stuns us is how the film wastes its talented cast. Both Bautista and Jovovich have proven themselves capable actors, but here they deliver wooden performances with dialogue so bad that no performer could salvage it. One particularly egregious scene features Bautista's painfully delivered line "What kind of God is this?"—a moment so poorly executed it becomes unintentionally hilarious. If you enjoy dissecting cinematic disasters or have a high tolerance for absolute nonsense dressed up as fantasy, join us for this brutal breakdown of a film that somehow manages to fail at every fundamental aspect of storytelling. We promise you'll never look at werewolves, illusionists, or two-headed snakes the same way again.Written Lovingly with AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

To conclude this year's edition of "AllysAccessoriesShop on Etsy's Trash Feature Revue", CatBusRuss does his best to pit two actresses against each other. The girl of his offbeat film preadolescence, Winona Ryder, and the woman of his low-brow cinema adulthood, Milla Jovovich. How did "The Fifth Element's" Leeloo defeat "Beetlejuice's" Lydia Deetz? How convoluted is this episode going to be? To add some cohesion to the closure of the Trash Feature Revue, our host decided to find a connection between Milla's and Winona's filmographies. The answer, Ben Stiller's "Zoolander". Jovovich is fifth billed and Ryder only has a cameo, but is more prevalent in the trailer. We can call that a tie, so whose film representing Y and # was better: The rom-com where Milla tries carrying David Krumholtz to stardom, "You Stupid Man"; Or the hippie movie led by a Kiefer Sutherland and Robert Downey Jr. ensemble, "1969"? This could be messy because the Milla flick was introduced to Russ from the ex who was prior to Ally. Does this podcast compare his most recent relationships? Give it a listen and be as judgmental as you like.
The Fourth Kind is a 2009 science fiction-psychological horror-thriller-drama film[2] directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and featuring a cast of Milla Jovovich, Elias Koteas, Corey Johnson, Will Patton, Charlotte Milchard, Mia Mckenna-Bruce, Yulian Vergov, and Osunsanmi. The title is derived from the expansion of J. Allen Hynek's classification of close encounters with aliens, in which the fourth kind denotes alien abductions. The film is a pseudodocumentary—purporting to be a dramatic re-enactment of true events that occurred in Nome, Alaska - in which a psychologist uses hypnosis to uncover memories of alien abduction from her patients, and finds evidence suggesting that she may have been abducted as well. At the beginning of the film, Jovovich informs the audience this entire movie is actually real, that she will be playing a character based on a real person named Abigail Tyler, and that the film will feature archival footage of the real Tyler. The "Abigail Tyler" seen in the archival footage is played by Charlotte Milchard, and at various points throughout the film, the archival footage scenes and accompanying dramatic re-enactments are presented side by side. The film received negative reviews and grossed $47.7 million worldwide. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/100horrors/message

Help NinetyForChill: The #Podcast get away from paywalls by subscribing to "Ninety For Chill: The Podcast with CatBusRuss". This episode of NinetyForChill may serve as a personality profile of its host, CatBusRuss. Since 1997 and "The Fifth Element", he has been a fan and apologist of Milla Jovovich. Her direct-to-video features do not scare him off, so he was intrigued by "Paradise Hills". Neil Marshall's "Doomsday" is one of his favorite movies. It would not be fair to Marshall if Russ did not check out his collaboration with Jovovich, the "Hellboy" reboot. ThePoeticCritic is more of an influence of her little brother than he would like to acknowledge, but this lead him to give "Class Action Park" a viewing. That feature is about a very eighties attitude. Thus, it inspired him to finally watch the "Risky Business" DVD provided to him by Ally Higgins of Ally's Accessories Shop on Etsy. Another disc Ally gave her ex-boyfriend was a no budget horror movie from 2016 called "Nocturne". After that trash feature, CatBus needs to reminisce about a good gore film, so it is only fitting that "Spiral: From the Book of Saw" was the first movie he saw after cinemas finally reopened.

Besson started writing the story that was developed as The Fifth Element when he was 16 years old; he was 38 when the film opened in cinemas. Besson wanted to shoot the film in France, but suitable facilities could not be found; filming took place in London and Mauritania instead. He hired comic artists Jean "Moebius" Giraud and Jean-Claude Mézières, whose books inspired parts of the film, for production design. Costume design was by Jean-Paul Gaultier. The Fifth Element received mainly positive reviews, although some critics were highly negative. The film won in categories at the British Academy Film Awards, the César Awards, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Lumières Awards, but also received nominations at the Golden Raspberry and Stinkers Bad Movie Awards. The Fifth Element was a strong financial success, earning more than US$263 million at the box office on a $90 million budget. At the time of its release, it was the most expensive European film ever made, and it remained the highest-grossing French film at the international box office until the release of The Intouchables in 2011.

Details, credits, errata: This week we have the delightful Rob Weinert-Kendt, editor of American Theatre magazine and contributor to America, The New York Times, and many other discerning publications, and absolutely one of our favorite people. His terrific pitch was to watch Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 silent drama The Passion of Joan of Arc, one of many movies made from the story of Joan’s trial, largely because, as Rob observes, there’s lots of documentary material about the trial, notably the transcript, available in English here. There are lots of Joans of Arc; Sam did indeed go to see the Manhattan Theatre Club’s terrible production of the George Bernard Shaw play with Rob, though he got the lead, Condola Rashad, mixed up with the lead from another bad Shaw production on Broadway, Sally Hawkins in Mrs. Warren’s Profession at the Roundabout. Poor Shaw. He’s a good playwright. Other notable Joans include The Messenger, starring Milla Jovovich and John Malkovich and directed by Luc Besson, his and Jovovich’s follow-up collaboration to their sci-fi flick The Fifth Element (The Messenger is not a success in any sense, but The Fifth Element slaps). Joan has been used by other playwrights, notably Bertolt Brecht, in Saint Joan of the Stockyards, which resets the story among unionizing Chicago meatpackers, and novelists including Terry Pratchett, whom you may remember from a few episodes ago, in his lovely Discworld novel Monstrous Regiment. Other filmed versions include George Méliès’ Jeanne D’Arc, which I’ll include below this paragraph on our website, and Das Mädschen Johanna, a Nazi version of the story. You can read Graham Greene’s review of it in The Spectator here. Our theme song is Louis Armstrong and His Hot 5’s Muskrat Ramble, made freely available by the Boston Public Library and audio engineering shop George Blood, LP through the Internet Archive. The Passion of Joan of Arc is in the public domain, and the image at the head of the page is from the film. All other material is copyright 2021 Sam Thielman and Alissa Wilkinson. Alright, alright, alright — it's time for the movie that put Matthew McConaughey on the map, turned Ben Affleck into a bully, and taught us all to sizzle like bacon. "Dazed and Confused" gave us a '90s indie movie look at 1976 with a drop-dead-gorgeous cast, hot muscle cars, and one-liners that made their way into all of our lives. This episode taught the Shat Crew a lot about ass-paddlings, high school sororities, and Texas sports culture. And it reminded us of magical keggers, the older kids who helped us fit in, and what it was like to stay up all night with what felt like an eternity of life ahead of you. Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter follows the tomboyish Captain Natalie Artemis who, along with her team of wise-cracking UN soldiers, is whisked away to high adventure in The New World, where they encounter monsters, magic, epic battles, and perhaps even romance? Severed from their everyday life, Artemis’ troubles compound exponentially when she is rescued and befriended by a handsome man known only as “The Hunter.” Now, inexorably bound together, these two unlikely allies must navigate a world both wondrous and hostile. It's not going to be easy, as the ominous First Civilization has sent their most powerful minions to stop the intrepid pair before they can fulfill their destinies.
What do a demonic-possession tale with a twist, a journey to a faraway land full of monsters, and an interview with a Broadway star have in common? They make up the latest podcast... From The Basement, that's what! Indeed, those who tuned in not once, not twice, but thrice to From The Basement on Radio NL this past weekend know the skinny on this episode. We reviewed Know Fear and Monster Hunter, plus interviewed Know Fear star Mallory Bechtel. But they didn't get the whole story. This podcast features an additional 10 minutes of our interview with Mallory, who was last seen on the big screen in the acclaimed Hereditary. She's back in horror mode with Know Fear, and explains her love of the genre, getting into a dark headspace for a tough role, and how one goes from Broadway to big scares. It's a great interview with a talented young lady, and one folks will enjoy. Jason and Shawn also put Know Fear on the chopping block before turning the Executioner's Axe on Monster Hunter, a big-budget adaptation of the popular video-game franchise. Director Paul W. S. Anderson doesn't have the best track record with this sort of thing, but star Milla Jovovich knows how to kick butt. And martial artist Tony Jaa co-stars. Could this one deliver the goods? Randy and Jens continue down the dark path of Resident Evil movies with Resident Evil: Retribution. Alice continues to battle Umbrella while the guys continue to battle to understand how any of the movies make any sense. Jens gets upset at the continued retconning going on by Paul W.S. Anderson while Randy loses all sense of hope as a veritable who's who of characters from the games get shoehorned into the terrible movie. With just one more to follow, do they feel like they have the strength to climb out of the hole that Anderson created or was the Red Queen right and "They are all going to die down here?"
When rewatching a sci-fi movie from decades ago, it's often hilarious how the future and technology is assumed to evolve. 1997's "The Fifth Element" seems to intentionally lean into that hard, as the technology appears to have been developed by someone from the early 80's interpretation of what the future might be. Resident Evil: Afterlife marks Paul W.S. Anderson’s glorious return to the director’s chair, stuffing the series’ first 3D installment to the brim with gimmicky nonsense. Randy and Jens discuss.

Paul W.S. Anderson relinquishes his directing duties once again, but this time to actual real director Russell Mulcahey (Highlander, Highlander II: The Quickening, The Shadow). The result is a weird outlier for the series that features some of its most competently assembled set pieces. Unfortunately, it is still written by Anderson, who contradicts himself and barely moves the overarching plot forward. Randy and Jens discuss.
The guys follow the T-Virus into Raccoon City. The second video game took big steps forward for the franchise. Did the second movie do the same or did it take a Nemesis-sized dump? Find out what Jens and Randy think when they review Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
This week Jens and Randy go down a Tyrant sized rabbit whole as they start their journey through the entire Resident Evil movie franchise. Randy believed the first movie was the only "Ok" one in the series, but after revisiting The Hive does he still feel that way?

Today on the 5: I watched a movie called .45 over the weekend. I picked it because Milla Jovovich is in it and it looked like a low effort revenge thriller, but the movie turned out to be something very different.
The Alchemist fight against Mr. Shadow with The Fifth Element. Key Elements: Cuphead, Gizmo Ducks, Mr. Shadow
Danielle Brown (@thatdanibelle of World of Commotion) is back with the sequel nobody was asking for. Milla Jovovich and Brian Krause are doing their best Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins impressions while learning about the birds, the bees, the cowrie shells, and getting rid of their trees (if you know what I mean, nudge nudge). But twist! A horned up young belle from San Francisco shows up with her father’s boat, threatening to destroy the islanders’ “natural love.” Also, there’s a generationally vindictive shark and criminal Australians lurking about.
Paradise Hills came flying out of nowhere and hit us square between the eyes. It's weird and colorful and it's got Milla freakin' Jovovich! The post Episode 234: Take Me Down to Paradise Hills appeared first on So...I'm Watching This Show.
In this classy episode of Sequelitis, we create a porn parody of 1997's weirdo Euro-sci-fi space opera, The Fifth Element. We're not proud of it. But it's a darn good porn parody. So... uh... we'll just leave it at that. #CatchSequelitis

Here we are again the latest episode from the triplets of Nerdity, that’s right folks those wacky goofballs have done it again. First up we have Buck bringing us news about new robots using the art of Kirigami. The art of cutting paper, in this case it is cutting and folding paper. This method has been applied to robotics with some awesome results. Now while it is only early days, we ask you to remember the Origami claw we featured a while back. With this in mind you will understand why Buck is excited, and Professor joins in with the excitement. This is just the start of the show and it is already looking fantastic.Next we look at the dismal lack of taste exhibited by the foolish bunch of weirdos in Hollywood behind the Golden Globes. That’s right we said it, actually Buck did if any snipers are being sent for reprisals. But seriously, just get those idiots to go look at some of the amazing work in animation out there. It doesn’t have to be all CGI, honestly Hollywood was built on proper special effects. These days they struggle to do anything outside a computer lab. While we are not meaning to insult CGI and the wonders it can produce, why can’t we have some proper animation and anime getting awards. When can we see some real special effects like we used to get back in the day. Not meaning to sound as grumpy as Buck or as old as a Boomer but seriously the talent involved in special effects was astounding.Last we look at a remake of Sonic 06 that is actually looking good. That is until corporate lawyers realised they could make money by getting it shut down. Take a moment and open the link, doesn’t that look so much better then what was dumped on the market like so much garbage? The amount of work involved must be mind-blowing, but there may be hope for the future. Want to know what that might be, well you will need to listen in to find out. You thought I was slipping and going to tell you everything, but believe me, there is so much more for you.We finish with the regular shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. As always we hope you take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.Self-folding robots using kirigami- https://techxplore.com/news/2019-12-robots-self-folding-kirigami-materials.html- https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2019/12/11/1906435116/tab-figures-dataAnime Movies snubbed from Golden Globes - https://www.cbr.com/golden-globes-shuts-out-anime-films-promare-weathering-with-you-i-lost-my-body/Sonic 06 Remade by a Fan - https://www.engadget.com/2019/12/11/sonic-p-06-unity-pc-fan-remake/Games currently playingBuck– Pirates Slay - https://www.crazygames.com/game/pirates-slayRating: 4.5/5DJ– Frenzy Retribution - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1108560/FrenzyRetribution/Rating: 4/5Professor- Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition - https://store.steampowered.com/app/813780/Age_of_Empires_II_Definitive_Edition/Rating: 4.733/5Other topics discussedKirigami Definiton (variation of origami that includes cutting of the paper, rather than solely folding the paper as is the case with origami, but typically does not use glue.)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirigami- https://www.origami-resource-center.com/kirigami-for-kids.htmlT-1000 (A fictional character in the Terminator franchise. This month the manatees are revisiting 1997's The Fifth Element, directed by Luc Besson and starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich! The Filmlosophers, Eddie Villanueva, Chad Riley and Spencer Williams, try desperately to escape the flames of the underworld with this week's review of Hellboy (2019). The remake stars David Harbour from “Stranger Things” alongside Ian McShane, Milla Jovovich, Danial Dae Kim and a whole lot of CGI. Unfortunately, this slow burning garbage fire of a film is too relentlessly unquenchable even for us. The good news is that we suffered through it so you don't have to.

Join Patti Brunner for an entertaining movie review series that targets saints. Patti has discovered that the ratings given to modern movies by the motion picture industry don’t always give the truth about the moral objections to the screening. She recommends the USSCB Movie Guide. This Truth of the Spirit episode of Watching the Saints finds the glaring flaws as Patti looks at various movie versions about Noah who was instructed by God to build an ark to save mankind from total destruction during a world-wide flood and others about a young teenaged peasant girl, Joan of Arc, who was told by God to save France by standing up for truth above destructive evil and political forces and leading soldiers into battle. By weeding out misleading videos of these characters and watching truthful stories these heroic characters you will be encouraged to follow their examples of obedience to God despite opposition by forces of evil.
In 1993, director Richard Linklater fresh off his indie surprise hit Slacker was given the opportunity to make his first studio film. Set in 1976 and following a handful of high school students on the last day of school, Dazed and Confused recieved little fanfare when it was released, only to find second life on video and midnight showings to become a cult classic that ignited the careers of many of today's A-list stars. But does the film deserve the love or should it fade away? MovieDude Eric, Kent, Chris and special guest D.X. Ferris find out. Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective
Alright, alright, alright...if you were listening to our last show and thinking that we should have a guest...as in, "it would be a lot cooler if we did" you're in luck. This week's show is about the coming-of-age high school movie set in 1976, Dazed and Confused with our special guest Mike Brancatelli of the podcast Mikeadelic! Here is the ridiculously wrong Google description: This coming-of-age film follows the mayhem of group of rowdy teenagers in Austin, Texas, celebrating the last day of high school in 1976. The graduating class heads for a popular pool hall and joins an impromptu keg party, however star football player Randall "Pink" Floyd (Jason London) has promised to focus on the championship game and abstain from partying. Meanwhile, the incoming freshmen try to avoid being hazed by the seniors, most notably the sadistic bully Fred O'Bannion (Ben Affleck). We discuss several themes ranging from the drug war, compulsory schooling, government-induced mental illness and more in this episode. Here is the Wiki on the movie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dazed_and_Confused_(film) If you feel like we do, and you enjoyed the discussion, then perhaps support our show with a Patreon donation. Cool things are in the works for supporters! Remember, you go to keep L-I-V-I-N. As always, like, comment, subscribe (on YouTube!), share, et al. Never miss an episode. Grab some gear. You're gonna need it. Ron goes to see the worst movie possible and delivers our best episode ever. *MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*
This week we 4 X Deep Dive on Milla Jovovich, and in particular Iain gripes about the Resident Evil movie series. But we are really feline her eyebrows. In seggy one, Olly and Iain pitch ideas for what the next Speed movie could be and we introduce a brand new segment to get listener Alec's life score in "You the Viewer".
Ron administers a heavy dose of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the new Tom Cruise sequel about an emotionless bad-ass who... gets emotional. Terrorists, murder, conspiracy abound! Milla Jovovich, those Resident Evil movies, and their stupid director really take a serious beating in this one. Also, the best curse words in movie history. Did we miss anything? Let us know at movieswithron@gmail.com, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @MoviesWithRon. Stay safe everyone, and watch out for Sky Hummers. *MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*

Action Movie Anatomy hosts Ben Bateman and Andrew Ghai break down The Fifth Element! The Fifth Element (French: Le Cinquième Élément) is a 1997 English-language French science fiction action film directed and co-written by Luc Besson. It stars Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman and Milla Jovovich. Primarily set in the 23rd century, the film's central plot involves the survival of planet Earth, which becomes the responsibility of Korben Dallas (Willis), a taxicab driver and former special forces major, after a young woman (Jovovich) falls into his cab. Dallas joins forces with her to recover four mystical stones essential for the defence of Earth against an impending attack. Besson started writing the story that became The Fifth Element when he was 16 years old; he was 38 when the film opened in cinemas. Besson wanted to shoot the film in France, but suitable locations could not be found; filming took place instead in London and Mauritania. We're pretty sure there are only four elements, but this movie seems to argue otherwise. That's right, this week we reviewed The Fifth Element. The film stars our boy Bruce Willis, alongside Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, and Ian Holm. It centers on Willis and Jovovich as they discover a legendary cosmic weapon that will help them defeat Evil and Mr. Zorg. You'll definitely want to check out this episode, but as always, some spoilers lie ahead!

This week we're running free range once again, and we start with the more symptoms of the ruination of cinema. After that, we remark on the deft writing required to gradually turn a protagonist insane without losing the sympathy of the audience and the questionable decision that sometimes gets made to attempt to finish the unfinished work of a dead author. Speaking of questionable decisions, we discuss the recent news that Disney is attempting to buy Marvel Comics, and while we're on the topic of comics we present a mini-review of the new Batman game. Talking about games gets us lamenting the loss of arcades, and the everlasting importance of jiggliness in the design of video game women. Finally, speaking of women leads to take a moment to bask in the magic of Milla, who I suppose I would call my muse. And hey, Mysterious Universe has relaunched!
