This week our question comes from Alison McKeever. Recommendations: Catriona Who Killed Emma - BBC Scotland The naked body of a young woman is found in isolated woods. Police never catch her killer. Journalist Sam Poling's investigation takes her into a dark and unsettling world of sex, rape, lies and murder. And it leads her to confront the man she believes is the prime suspect. From BBC Scotland, Who Killed Emma? Is an eight-part podcast that forensically takes apart the police investigation into Emma's murder and unravels the impact of a series of coincidences and missed opportunities until a clear suspect starts to emerge. Angela Silo - Apple Tv Silo is the story of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built and those who try to find out face fatal consequences. Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer who seeks answers about a loved one's murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don't kill you, the truth will. In addition to Ferguson, Silo season two stars new addition Steve Zahn, alongside returning stars Tim Robbins, Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McRae, Remmie Milner, Clare Perkins, Billy Postlethwaite, Rick Gomez, Caitlin Zoz, Tanya Moodie and Iain Glen. Eamonn The Day of the Jackal - Book - Frederick Forsyth The Day of the Jackal - Now tv - Original Film The Day of The Jackal - Sky Tv Series The Day of the Jackal is a brand new thriller based on the classic 1971 book by Frederick Forsyth about a lone wolf and his global scale threat. The official synopsis, from Sky, reads: “An unrivalled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal, makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.” With a fresh twist on the source material, including the subsequent award-winning 1973 film from Universal Pictures, The Day of the Jackal promises a chase across the world as the hunter becomes the hunted.

What happens when a video game company blatantly plagiarizes Indiana Jones but is too deep in the coding process to change the entire game? They make the hero a woman, and a new cultural icon is born! Naturally, there had to be a movie. This week on The CineMeh Podcast, Josh and Ryan are discussing the 2001 action-adventure movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, staring Angelina Jolie as the titular Lara Croft. While there is fun to be had, your hosts quickly find that this film completely falls apart under the slightest pressure- something that cannot be said of Lara herself. Bonkers action sequences, bad accents, sleazy villains and nonsensical time-travel abound in this globe-trotting romp that dares to ask the question: just how much plot can we ignore before we realize this movie was badly written?! The answer: not... not much. There's not much plot in this movie that makes sense. Grab your hiking boots and crop top, and hold on tight to your motorcycle; it's time for another episode of The CineMeh Podcast! Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was released in 2001 and stars Angelina Jolie, Iain Glen, Noah Taylor, and Daniel Craig. The CineMEH Podcast is a Slyjack Media, LLC production Like what you hear? In the spirit of Silo, I recorded this episode on a relic (my iPhone SE) like the residents of Silo, in a secret unmonitored room (my bathroom under a blanket) - these are the lengths I go to, to get the truth out. Silo had a lull that almost killed it for me, but in Episodes 6 and 7 it really has regained its creative mojo and is now back running at the same creative pace it was in the first couple of episodes. It's great to see Iain Glen getting to sink his teeth into some juicy character moments, the mystery is clearly coming into focus with major advances in the plot, and it just feels like a show truly hitting its stride for the home stretch of episodes. Zack Snyder's Watchmen was relatively well-received by fans and overall was a box office success. Devoted to making a faithful adaptation of the Alan Moore/ Dave Gibbons graphic novel, the fact that Snyder's Watchmen film got made on the scale it did is a miracle. However, several other versions of Watchmen were in the works before Snyder got involved, with several coming close to being made. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Unmade Movie, we dig into versions that almost got made involving folks such as Terry Gilliam, David Hayter (who filmed a demo reel with Ray Stevenson and Rorschach and Iain Glen as Nite Owl), Darren Aronofsky and Paul Greengrass. Suppose any of these versions had gotten made. In that case, we might have gotten someone like Paddy Considine as Rorschach, Joaquin Phoenix as Nite Owl, and possibly even Tom Cruise as Ozymandias (in which case the adaptation likely would have had little to do with Moore's comic). In the end, perhaps it was best that no one succeeded in getting the movie made until Snyder, with it also paving the way for the excellent HBO limited series and maybe some future Watchmen stories to come.
It's those variations on a theme that can end up making something special...On this episode we dive into the lore of Peter Pan with a some slight variations in 'The Lost Girls'.It's the story of four generations of Darling women struggle with returning to reality following their adventures with Peter Pan in Neverland. Like her grandmother and her mother Jane before her, Wendy must break Pan's spell and uncover what's real in a world full of fantasy. We had the unique pleasure of sitting down with writer/director Livia De Paolis about the origins of the film, the themes in it all, how she got started and so very much more....'The Lost Girls' is on VOD platforms and in select theatres now.

This week on Total Movie Recall, we take a big shit on Boomers and their cheap nostalgia for a “better time.” A time when a bunch of baseball-loving kids' black friend would have had to walk home to his segregated neighborhood. A time of nuclear anxiety because our megalomaniacal leaders were determined to blow up the world. A time when women were openly sexually harassed with no consequences. But hey, wasn't baseball fun? Don't think about all that other stuff. The Sandlot (1993) d. This week, host Gray Jones interviews UK show creator / showrunner and practicing doctor Dan Sefton, who is also the co-founder of the independent production company Seven Seas Films. This episode is sponsored by Pilar Alessandra of onthepage.tv. Pilar is offering TV Writer Podcast listeners a 10% discount on any of her services. To get your 10% off, reach out to her directly and tell her Gray sent you! Dan Sefton Bio: Dan Sefton is a prolific television writer who founded Seven Seas Films in 2016 alongside producer Simon Lupton, with the aim of creating and producing TV drama for the UK and international markets, putting the writer at the center of the process. Together they have several projects in development, including "The last Days of Marilyn," in partnership with 101 Studios. Previously an A&E doctor, he started his television career as a hobby; writing episodes of UK medical dramas such as "Doctors," "Casualty" and "Holby City." Delving into the world of scripted drama, Dan also wrote episodes of Harlan Coben's "The Five" (Sky One), "Death in Paradise" (BBC One), "Monarch of the Glen" (BBC One), "Mr Selfridge" (ITV) and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" (ITV2). Having written comedy series "Porters" for UKTV to critical acclaim, Dan went on to write the original four-part drama series, "Delicious," starring Dawn French, Emilia Fox and Iain Glen for Bandit TV and Sky One. He also wrote four-part thriller "Trust Me" for Red Productions and BBC One, starring Jodie Whittaker, which was broadcast in August 2017. Most recently, Dan's writing credits include Tiger Aspect's "The Good Karma Hospital," now in its third series on ITV, and "The Mallorca Files" with Cosmopolitan Pictures and ProSieben for BBC One which is in production with series two. In May 2019, Great Point, the UK's leading independent media and investment firm, invested in Seven Seas Films. INDEX TO THE EPISODE: 1:42 - Interview start… how Dan started out as a medical doctor, and amazingly, continues to practice medicine while writing. How the first script he ever wrote was produced, for the UK show “Doctors.” Many medical shows followed… Dan discusses the difference between his real life experiences and the shows the end up on TV, how he was actually more appealing to producers when he was practicing medicine than when he quit it, and how he maintains the balance between the two. 9:41 - Dan discusses how representation works in the UK, and his experience with representation. 12:19 - How freelance scripts work in the UK… how there is not as much of a writing room in the UK, but how there are non-writing creative producers who do a lot of the series building and planning. 17:27 - How he made the jump to creating and running shows. 21:40 - The process from pitch to production of how he creates shows. How in the UK, you work much more with independent production companies to pitch shows to the network… discussion on the UK process is similar to how reality TV is developed in the US. 26:40 - Why and how he created his own production company. 29:29 - Sponsor break 30:26 - Differences between the US and the UK in how a show is run… how UK TV is much more of a writer auteur medium, but the US excels at delivering volume. Could a US writing room work in the UK? 36:54 - Dan has worked in several genres… is that easier in the UK? 40:40 - With shorter seasons in the UK, is it easier for a younger writer to get a show off the ground? How pairing with established production companies can help. How his company Seven Seas looks for new unique voices, but expects people to have done a lot of homework before walking in the door. 49:37 - Does he see many writers crossing the pond, one way or the other? Mostly, he sees showrunners from the US attracted to the writer-as-auteur system. 52:44 - Advice to greener writers… understand that you are the product, not just your script. What do you bring to the table? You must be able to sell that too. Also, know what you are getting into, and be willing to work very hard. It's better to write a fresh take on a genre than to reinvent the wheel. And… train yourself to work very quickly, even if it's not for a specific deadline.
