It's Wednesday, June 5th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Tiananmen Square massacre anniversary Yesterday was the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in China. In the weeks leading up to the massacre in 1989, students were leading pro-democracy protests in Beijing. In response, the Communist Chinese government forcibly put down the protests, killing hundreds if not thousands. China's military also arrested leaders in the underground church which had fueled the protests. Persecution of Christians in Hong Kong Speaking of China, the country's persecution of Christians continues and is spreading to Hong Kong. Since 2020, China has extended control over Hong Kong. This has led to the arrest of church leaders and the closure of some religious groups. Many Christians have left Hong Kong for the United Kingdom, making the Chinese church the fastest growing one in Britain. Hong Kong Christians put out a commemorative prayer for the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. Despite authorities banning candlelight vigils, the prayer says, "Let us, in the great light of the Lord's amazing grace, light a candle in the depths of our souls, to continue their unfinished aspirations in the prayers and shadows, never to be lost or forgotten. O Lord! Let there be light in our hearts.” In Matthew 5:14, Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” United Kingdom blocks puberty blockers Last Wednesday, the United Kingdom issued new restrictions on puberty blockers for children in England, Wales, and Scotland. The emergency ban lasts from June 3 to September 3, 2024. During the timeframe, doctors cannot prescribe the transgender drugs to people under 18. The new policy also introduced indefinite restrictions to the prescribing of these drugs by primary care providers in England's National Health Service. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Biden caps southern border illegals to 2,500 per day Ahead of the U.S. presidential election, President Joe Biden issued an executive order yesterday to curb illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border. The order limits asylum requests once the average number of daily border encounters hits 2,500. The number of daily encounters is already above that. So, the order is expected to go into effect immediately. It will stay in effect until the number of daily encounters drops to 1,500 or lower. The last time border encounters were at that level was 2020. Texas and Florida responsible for half of America's new jobs In the last five years, just two states were responsible for over half of new jobs in America. Those states are Texas and Florida. The conservative states feature lower wages which is attractive to companies wanting to create jobs, and lower cost of living which is attractive to workers. Not surprisingly, many people with remote jobs moved to states, like Florida and Texas, which have a lower cost of living. Meanwhile, liberal states with high wages and cost of living fell out of the top 10 job-creating states. They include California, New York, Washington state, and Massachusetts. California used to be the top job creator between 2014 and 2019. Now, it's at the bottom. How Indiana cut abortions by 98% The Indiana Department of Health released a report on abortions in the state for the first quarter of 2024. Remarkably, there were only 45 abortions during the first quarter, down from nearly 2,000 during the first quarter of 2023. That's a 98% decrease! Indiana's abortion ban went into effect last August. It outlaws abortions at all stages of pregnancy with some exceptions. Arkansas had no abortions in 2023 Meanwhile, a report from the Arkansas Department of Health's Vital Statistics found there were no abortions reported during the entirety of last year. The state started enforcing its abortion ban in 2022. Before that, yearly abortions were over 3,000. Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral restored by December after fire The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France was devastated by fire back in 2019. Since then, hundreds of companies and craftsmen have been working to restore the cathedral by December of this year. Last month, workers restored the iconic cross on the cathedral's roof. A project manager told CBS News it was a miracle that the cross didn't burn a lot. The restored cross spans 40 feet and weighs over 3,000 pounds. In other Notre Dame news, Lego just released a 4,383-piece model of the cathedral. It's the first model of a religious structure the toy company has released since it produced a model church in 1957. The Worldview: A “five-minute dose of freedom” In response to my request for Worldview listeners to email me at Adam@TheWorldview.com to share what the newscast means to them, I heard from Max Wood in Macon, Georgia. He wrote, “John 8:32 tells us that we shall know the truth and the truth will set us free. In a world of fake news, biased news, and propaganda, The Worldview is a daily reminder of what is true and just and inspires us to seek the ultimate truth in God's Word. Thank you for your five-minute dose of freedom every day.” 9 Worldview listeners gave $1,750 Toward out Friday, June 7th goal of raising $28,550 to help keep the newscast on the air, 9 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate. Our thanks to Wyatt in Summerdale, Alabama who gave $5, Linda in Palmdale, California who gave $25, as well as Jason in Grand Junction, Colorado and Sheila in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania – both of whom gave $50. We also appreciate the generosity of Nancy in Ketchikan, Alaska who gave $100, Sullivan in Las Vegas, Nevada who gave $120, Sammy in Pallara, Queensland, Australia who pledged $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300, Bill in Castle Rock, Colorado who gave $500, and Kelly in Las Vegas, Nevada who pledged $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600. Those 9 Worldview listeners gave a total of $1,750. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (sound effect of drum roll) $3,230 (audience cheering) We have only three days left to raise $25,320. I wonder if there might be 4 Worldview listeners who could each give $4,000 to jumpstart this week in a major way! But whether you can give $4 or $4,000, please make the donation that God has placed on your heart. Just go to TheWorldview.com, click on “Give,” select the dollar amount you'd like, and click on the recurring button if that's your wish. Let's see how God will move through you! Max Wood returns to The Great Battlefield podcast to tell the story of the end of his company, Deck and starting a new company Indigo, where they help progressives with data, analytics and engineering.
Modern political campaigning has become a massive data operation. In the US, candidates from both parties frequently use data to try and better understand voters, in hopes of swaying them on election day. But how, exactly, is voter information being acquired, analyzed, and employed to influence voters? Do modeling and targeting really move the needle? And how are political campaigns a microcosm of the data economy, illuminating how data can transform society? In this episode, Raffi talks to election veterans, data specialists, and former colleagues from his time as CTO at the Democratic National Committee, to talk about how data is utilized in campaigns. Guests include Dan Wagner, CEO of Civis Analytics; political consultant Max Wood; Lindsey Schuh Cortes, CEO of TargetSmart; and Tara McGowan, former political strategist & publisher of COURIER. It's Friday, July 7th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Children in Niger, Africa brutalized by Muslim jihadists Children bear the brunt of the devastating impact of Muslim Jihadism in Niger, Africa. They face the dual horrors of being targeted and killed, as well as being recruited and displaced from their homes, reports International Christian Concern. Matt Wells, Amnesty International's Crisis Response Deputy Director, said, “In Niger's Tillabéri region, an entire generation is growing up surrounded by death and destruction. Armed groups have repeatedly attacked schools and food reserves and are targeting children for recruitment.” Radicalized Islamic groups are plaguing the Sahel region in Africa, a land mass 620 miles wide and 3,360 miles long which runs from the Atlantic Ocean on the West Coast to the Red Sea on the East Coast. Muslims are attempting to establish a caliphate in the region and frequently target Christians in their attacks. Please pray for the salvation of those who persecute the church that they would repent of their sin and trust Christ as their Savior. And pray that God would comfort and strengthen the children who are targeted. Psalm 37:27-29 says, “Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake His faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish. The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever." Cocaine found at the White House Cocaine was discovered on Sunday night in the West Wing of the White House. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed the controversy on Wednesday. JEAN-PIERRE: “Where this was discovered is a heavily traveled area where many White House, West Wing, I should be even more specific, of West Wing visitors come through this particular area. The Secret Service is investigating this.” Donald Trump asked, "Does anybody really believe that the COCAINE found in the West Wing of the White House, very close to the Oval Office, is for the use of anyone other than Hunter & Joe Biden?" The Washington Examiner reported, “It has been widely speculated that the president's son Hunter Biden, who has had a history of cocaine addiction, may have been involved. He was seen on Friday headed to Camp David with his father for the second weekend in a row and celebrated the Fourth of July on Tuesday with his family at the White House.” DeSantis raised $150 million in first quarter On Thursday, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis' campaign for president announced strong fundraising results. He raised $20 million in his first six weeks, reports The Epoch Times. That trumps Donald Trump's total of $18.3 million raised during the same time period. In addition, DeSantis' independent Super PAC, Never Back Down, raised $130 million since launching in early March. Arizona Attorney General refuses to enforce pro-life laws Arizona Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes declared Monday that she will not enforce pro-life laws in the Grand Canyon state. She has been empowered to ignore abortion measures she disagrees with by left-wing Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs, reports LifeSiteNews. During an interview with Capitol Media Services, Mayes said that she is taking all prosecutorial power over abortion-related cases away from Arizona's 15 county attorneys and reserving it for herself, under the authority given her by an executive order Hobbs signed last week, which in turn cites a state law granting the state attorney general “supervisory powers” over county attorneys. That statute does not explicitly allow for prosecutors to be barred from acting on entire categories of offenses, but Hobbs and Mayes have interpreted it as doing just that. No one should be surprised by Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes' refusal to enforce pro-life laws. After all, her candidacy was endorsed by both Planned Parenthood of Arizona and National Abortion Rights Action League. Arizona's top law enforcement official is blatantly ignoring the wise counsel of Proverbs 31:8. “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” College student gets an “F” for citing “biological women” University of Cincinnati Professor Melanie Nipper gave her student, Olivia Krolczyk, a big fat “F” because she dared to use the term “biological women” in her class assignment about trans athletes, reports The Cincinnati Enquirer. The student went on TikTok to complain. KROLCZYK: “I got a zero on a project proposal in my class because I used the term ‘biological women' which apparently is not allowed anymore. She even said it was a good project proposal, but I got a zero because I used this term that's exclusionary and not allowed anymore.” The teacher was rightly reprimanded by the University of Cincinnati administration. Unfortunately, after getting woke pushback, the college foolishly rescinded the reprimand, claiming it was "issued in error." Margaret Hanson, the College of Arts and Sciences interim dean, said the reprimand was removed from Professor Nipper's file, according to an email sent to Nipper on June 29th. Worldview listeners from Georgia, Oregon, and California weigh in Worldview listeners continue to share what they like about the newscast. Max Wood in Macon, Georgia wrote, “I eagerly look forward to the daily inspiration your program provides its listeners. Each show reminds me of two important principles of Christianity that a pastor once gave me. First, there will be struggles. Second, the final victory is in Christ.” Jeff V. in Beaverton, Oregon wrote, “I like how biblical responses are included with news stories. But most of all, I like how homosexuality is described for what it is, terms like ‘faux homosexual wedding' or ‘sexually perverted lifestyles.' This portrayal surely is considered hate speech by some, but true nonetheless. Reading these accounts is like a breath of fresh air.” And Carrie Lee in San Jose, California wrote, “After hearing my first episode of The Worldview about a year ago, I knew I had to make it a part of my daily routine. Much of the news presented here I don't hear anywhere else. I share some of what I hear with my young son who was shocked to hear about Christian persecution in the world. I also appreciate the compact length which makes it easy to slip into my day right after devotionals. Thank you for your important work.” In addition to what you appreciate about this unique newscast, please tell me when and where you listen to The Worldview. While you're at the breakfast table, driving in the car, or doing chores? Email me at Adam@TheWorldview.com and include your full name, city and state, or country if outside America. 17 Worldview listeners gave $2,675 Toward our immediate goal of $20,000 by 12 midnight tonight to provide the resources to keep the newscast going another year, 17 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate. Those 17 donations add up to $2,675. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $6,240.50. (Crowd cheering sound effect) In order to hit our $20,000 immediate goal by tonight at 12 midnight, we still need to raise $13,759.50. I'm looking for 5 listeners to give $1,000 each. It's Monday, August 8th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Iraqi Christians mark tragic anniversary August 6, 2014 is a day Iraqi Christians will never forget. They call it the “Black Day.” Max Wood, Chairman of the American Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East, told The Worldview what happened, WOOD: “On August 6, 2014, the ISIS military forces came to a town called Qaraqosh, Iraq, which has traditionally been one of the largest Christian towns in Iraq. They gave the residents of that town just a few hours to either leave or convert to Islam or be killed. As a result, 50,000 Iraqi Christians left that day.” Those Iraqi Christians fled to Turkey, Syria, and Jordan. However, the majority of them, 40,000, went to Jordan which is very welcoming to refugees. The American Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East provides food for 8,000 of these Iraqi Christian refugees. WOOD: “Iraqi Christians are allowed to have refuge in Jordan, but they're not allowed to work in Jordan. That's the policy of the King of Jordan. Some refugee groups are allowed to work, but the Christian refugees are not.” Matthew 14:14 says, “When Jesus saw the great crowd, He had compassion on them.” Consider giving a donation to help pay for the food of the Iraqi Christian refugees in Jordan through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Plus, they've established the Olive Tree Center outside the Jordanian capital of Amman. WOOD: “And then we sustain their mental and emotional needs through our Olive Tree Center which offers music classes, guitar classes, piano classes, art classes, English classes are extremely popular, cooking classes give these ladies a chance to gather together as Iraqis in a foreign land.” On Saturday, they held a day of commemoration for the Iraqi Christian refugees in Jordan. WOOD: “On August 6, they had a commemoration ceremony there at the Olive Tree Center commemorating this day. They call this day the Black Day. It's similar to America's experience with September 11. It's a date they will never forget. It's a date that was horrific for them. It's a date that changed their lives forever.” China to U.S.A.: You can't 'treat countries like George Floyd' Enraged by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's August 2nd visit to the island nation of Taiwan, off the coast of China, a Chinese diplomat named Hua Chunying, said, 'We cannot allow the U.S. to take itself as ‘world policeman' and treat other countries [like] George Floyd whom it can bully and strangle at will,” reports The Daily Mail. China's military fired 11 ballistic missiles into the Taiwan Strait - with five landing in Japan's exclusion zone. Alex Jones ordered to pay $45.2M more over Sandy Hook lies On Friday, an Austin, Texas jury ordered conspiracy theorist talk show host Alex Jones to pay $45.2 million in punitive damages to the parents of a child who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, adding to the $4.1 million he must pay for the suffering he put them through by claiming for years that the nation's deadliest school shooting was a hoax, reports the Associated Press. The total — $49.3 million — is less than the $150 million sought by Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose 6-year-old son, Jesse Lewis, was among the 20 children and six educators killed by Adam Lanza, in the 2012 attack in Newtown, Connecticut. But the trial marks the first time Jones has been held financially liable for peddling lies about the massacre, claiming it was faked by the government to tighten gun laws. Mass. GOP governor makes state abortion sanctuary On July 29th, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, a pro-abortion Republican, signed a bill codifying both abortion and puberty blockers for children into law, reports LifeNews.com. According to the Massachusetts Family Institute, this egregious law does 6 things, First, it turns Massachusetts into an “abortion sanctuary” by prohibiting the governor, courts, or law enforcement from cooperating with other states in enforcing their pro-life laws against abortionists who flee to Massachusetts. Second, it forces state universities to provide the abortion pill to students. Third, it forces insurance companies to cover abortion, even if they have religious objections. Fourth, it allows late-term abortions when a doctor deems a baby “incompatible with sustained life” outside of the womb, a decision which is not subject to review by any medical board. Fifth, it extends legal protections to Planned Parenthood which distributes puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, even in states where they have been criminalized for use on children. Sixth, it establishes Massachusetts as an abortion exporter by: Protecting abortionists who perform abortions out-of-state, even if they violate other states' laws. Lowering or eliminating safety requirements for pharmacies to dispense abortion pills. Giving immunity to abortionists who provide abortifacient drugs through the mail or through telehealth appointments to women in states where abortion is illegal. Despite the fact that this Republican governor is clearly out of step with his own party's pro-life, anti-transgender platform, Baker celebrated the bill's signing with not just one tweet, but a second tweet. He praised the “dedication” of the legislature for passing this evil law. But Proverbs 17:15 says, “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.” After 66 days in hospital, 10-year-old Uvalde victim goes home And finally, a little girl who sustained critical injuries during the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on May 24th finally walked out of the hospital last Friday, more than two months after Salvador Ramos killed 19 students and two teachers, reports FaithWire.com. Mayah Zamora, age 10, who was shot in three limbs, walked out on her own to cheers and joy from hospital staff. STAFF: “Mayah. Mayah. Mayah.” (cheers) Administrators at University Health, a hospital in San Antonio, Texas, tweeted, “She is our hero, and we can't wait to see all she accomplishes in the future!” A GoFundMe page with a goal of $150,000 to help with Zamora's medical bills has brought in nearly $115,000. A PG-rated (and later rather R-rated) discussion commences on the legendary Jim Henson's company as well as his influence on other related or similar projects. Why don't we just include Farscape, Yoda, Labyrinth & Dark Crystal as part of the Muppet/Fraggle Rock/Sesame Street family? What were the reasons for many key players' exits post-Disney takeover? Who are the other unofficial Muppet couples besides Ernie & Bert? Are Sam the Eagle and Oscar the Grouch actually serial killers? And what are some of the best specials that need to be shown to all generations despite not being posted on Disney+? All that and more admiration of the underrated 2015 Muppet mockumentary show!
