It's the week before the week before Wrestlemania 9, and we hope you've called your local cable providers because you do NOT want to miss the opportunity to witness Hulk Hogan's return with the Mega Maniacs, or Bret Hart defend his championship against Yokozuna. We watch the March 20, 1993 episode of Superstars and the March 22, 1993 episode of Monday Night Raw and see some ridiculous promos - including a Lex Luger and Mr. Perfect mirror-off... a couple of ridiculous matches (including the return of The Bushwackers)... and a whole lot of jobber matches. You're not gonna want to miss this.
Beefcase, breifcake, briefcase, suitcase... what's the difference really? This week our word is WHY as we drag our feet down the long road to Wrestlemania 9 and cover the March 6, 1993 episode of Superstars and the March 8, 1993 episode of Raw. We discuss the shenanigans from Superstars such as Lex Luger, Mr. Perfect, Rick Martel, The Steiner Brothers, The Mega Maniacs, Bret Hart and Tatanka. We also question the claim that the beefcase was filled with 100 lbs of steel, or perhaps multiple bricks.
This week we talk about the February 20, 1993 episode of Superstars of Wrestling and the February 22, 1993 episode of Monday Night Raw - where we get treated to the return of a deflated Hulk Hogan as he supports his bionic friend Brutus the Barber Beefcake and brings Jimmy Hart into the newly formed Mega Maniacs. Other than that it's squash match central, but we have fun. This is fun.

We are channeling our midlife crisis with this podcast by reliving our youthful late 80's/early 90's Saturday Mornings of watching syndicated professional wrestling. Our recap of the April 3rd, 1993 edition of WWF Superstars. On this week's episode: The second of three episodes with our commentary on Wrestlemania IX. That's right..3! There was way to much for us to comment on for just two episodes. Today we cover the Crush vs. Doink, Razor Ramone vs. Bob Backlund, and the first main event Money, INC. vs the Mega Maniacs. Don't worry, Hogan will pose! Follow us on twitter @satmornsupers and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/329381601963515
Due to a family emergency, we change gears for this week. The 1987 in the WWF Project returns next week. However, THIS is a Special Edition of the Grenade, as we go back to 1993 this week and cover the 2-Hour USA Special, the WWF's March to WrestleMania IX. An excellent addition to our 1993 Project that ended several episodes ago. The Macho Man meets Yokozuna, The Undertaker battles Bam Bam Bigelow, the Mega Maniacs shell out the most Drug-Infused Promo perhaps in the history of professional wrestling, plus so much more! It's a fun 90+ minute ride back to March of 93 and for those interested you can Watch-Along with us as part of the WWE Network or The Peacock. Thanks for sticking with the Grenade, and we hope you enjoy this special bonus edition.Available everywhere your Podcast Streaming App needs are met.- Visit our Podcast Network https://wrestlecopia.com- Follow us on Twitter @RasslinGrenade- Follow and LIKE our FACEBOOK PAGE https://www.facebook.com/RasslinGrenade- Subscribe to our Youtube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/RasslinGrenade Originally, we intended for this episode to cover all of the news, notes, and arena result discussion for February 1987 in the WWF… That topic has been postponed until next week… And that's because I had a family emergency that started over the weekend. My grandmother who I have spoken of here from time to time on the show, who raised me from birth… Sadly, she experienced a major health issue Saturday morning pertaining to one of her arteries and underwent emergency heart surgery over the weekend. At 80 years old and with other health issues they really didn't think she would make it through the surgery. But after many of your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes I'm happy to say she DID make it through the surgery, and her circulation is probably the best it's been in 20 years. However, at her age and it being such a major surgery, she has a LONG road to recovery. Lots of therapy ahead in a rehab center to get her back walking and talking so it's still pretty rough emotionally and mentally on the family because even though she had issues getting around, she was always very vibrant and talkative and it's hard seeing her lay there so weak, groggy, unable to lift her head for long periods, and speaking so softly. But I keep telling myself the hardest part is behind her, I hope. She survived and now it's just getting back on her feet which is going to take some time. I thank all of the loyal Grenadiers out there, our listeners, for their support. With that said, we will pick back up with 1987 in the WWF NEXT WEEK when we begin to cover February 1987 on the road to WrestleMania 3. The Hart Foundation win the Tag Team Titles, Referee Danny Davis is FINALLY fired by Prez Jack Tunney, Barry Darsow replaces Randy Colley as Smash in Demolition, Outback Jack makes his in-ring debut, Andre the Giant officially makes his heel turn when he challenges Hulk Hogan to a Championship Match IN THE WRESTLEMANIA… and so much more. But for this week, given the brief time I had to put something together… For those who followed us before the 1987 project, you know that we did an extensive deep dive into the year of 1993 in the WWF… and that included all of the PPVs including WrestleMania IX… Mega MANIACS challenging Money Inc, Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez, Perfect vs. Narcissist, and WWF Champ Bret Hart battling Yokozuna… But with a week away from Mania… The WWF hosted a 2-hour special on USA dubbed the March to WrestleMania IX… One final monster push for the PPV with the likes of Macho Man Randy Savage taking on Yokozuna, The Undertaker going up against Bam Bam Bigelow, Kamala exacting revenge on his former handler Kim Chee, Mr. Perfect takes on Skinner in the final appearance of the alligator man gimmick, mixed tag action with Bushwhackers & Tiger Jackson (future Dink) vs. The Beverly Brothers & Little Louie. Plus action involving Tatanka, Money Inc, we'll see IC Champion Shawn Michaels, Crush hunts for Octopus, or is it Octopi? AND a DRUG INFUSED promo from the MEGA MANIACS that you'll never forget. You'll have to stay tuned and listen, you don't want to miss it. So here it is guys, from our PATREON EXCLUSIVE Watch-Along Series… One of MANY watch-alongs featured on the All Access Tier of https://www.patreon.com/wrestlecopia for the LOW LOW price of just $5 per month. No subscription, cancel anytime. I promise the Mega Maniacs coked-out promo IS intact for your listening pleasure… Steve Eckstat along for the ride on this episode as my co-host. THIS IS the WWF's March to WrestleMania IX… WWF MARCH TO WRESTLEMANIA IX - THE WATCH-ALONG "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Yokozuna You won't want to miss the Drug-Infused MEGA MANIACS PROMO, Brother. This has to be heard to be believed… Mr. Perfect vs. Skinner Kamala vs. Kimchee The Bushwhackers & Tiger Jackson vs. Beverly Brothers & Little Louie The Undertaker vs. Bam Bam Bigelow Plus Tatanka, IC Champion Shawn Michaels, Tag Team Champs Money Inc, Crush searches for Octopus, and more… ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

The Grenade Returns! After some downtime due to the nasty Coronavirus, the guys from the Grenade return to take on a whole new year and promotions as they analyze and dissect the entire year of 1993 in the WWF! Yes, we're going to talk 1993 in the WWF, for better or worse. From the Narcissist to the Lex Express. From Double Doinks to the Giant Gonzalez. From Togas to “Terrific” Terry Taylor. From Bartlett to Booger. From the debut of Monday Night Raw, to the return of… Hulkamania.BUT, before we get there, it's time to SET THE STAGE for 1993… In this episode of the Grenade, we thoroughly dissect all of the fallout of 1992 leading into the new year. We talk about the recent company firings and falling business that led to drastic changes within the company including all-new TV programming and new Champions across the board. We dissect the entire WWF roster leading into 1993… Who's coming, who's going? It becomes downright scary when we categorize the current main eventers, the upper card, and mid-card of the time. Up until this point the WWF had never been so depleted on talent, tag teams, storylines, and established stars in their positions on the card.We also peek into January of 1993 as we analyze the House Show marriages for the month, the current feuds, wrestler injuries leading into the Royal Rumble, and the January Tryouts of stars like the future Public Enemy and ‘Goon” Bill Irwin. If that wasn't enough, we also tell the tale of the Tatanka/Maxx Moon (Paul Diamond) affair and fiasco that ultimately led to Diamond's WWF release. Then brief rehire… and release again. Follow us on Twitter @RasslinGrenade and be automatically entered into our FREE PRIZE GIVEAWAY CONTESTS! Listen at your leisure and pick back up later if need be! Timestamps below for easy navigation. SETTING THE STAGE FOR THE WWF IN 1993 (00:03:54)We briefly lay out our plans for the program and talk about the fallout of 1992 and what's to come in 1993! THE WWF TITLE SCENE (00:05:51)New Champions are crowned across the board in the fall of 1992 as a true “Changing of the Guard” takes place We talk Bret Hart's ascension to main event status, the elevation in the career of Shawn Michaels, Tito Santana's claims of being considered for the WWF Title instead of Bret, Money Inc regaining the tag straps with next to no one left to work in the tag division, and more! THE CURRENT ROSTER (00:27:45)We deep dive into the entire WWF roster as we close out 92 and head into 1993. We analyze and dissect each tier of the roster from the Main Event scene, the upper-mid card, what constituted as a mid-card in this timeframe (it's scary), and even the lower-level talent under contract at this time. Furthermore, we talk about the silly reason the Big Boss Man gave notice to the WWF, the downfall of the Tag Team and Manager division, the many unestablished stars being groomed for the Main Event, and so much more! RECENT WWF RELEASES (01:16:18)So many names have just left the company or will be on their way out following the Royal Rumble PPV in January. We discuss the loss of talent like Earthquake, the Big Boss Man, “Model” Rick Martel, the Genius, the Berzerker, the Mountie, and others… We talk Sgt. Slaughter being moved from the ring into an “official” role, the fallout of the Nailz/Vince McMahon encounter and what it meant for the future plans of the Undertaker, and the Ultimate Warrior firing and how he “ultimately” got the British Bulldog fired along with him. We talk all about the ramifications of the Bulldog & Warrior's releases and how it affected the entire roster and booking plans. With Warrior & Bulldog gone we look at the implosion of the Mega Maniacs team, the in-ring return and babyface turn of Mr. Perfect, the rushed/force move up the card for several individual stars who may not have been ready or reached that “next level”. We fantasy book what the Rumble PPV may have looked like had the Warrior not been fired, including the rumored WWF title match between Bret Hart vs. the Warrior in which it was said the Warrior would play the heel and become Champion. It's interesting what could have been! THE TATANKA/MAXX MOON AFFAIR (01:29:45)We share the story of Paul Diamond (Maxx Moon) being fired after having an affair with Tatanka's wife. We also discuss Diamond's firing for the affair and almost immediate return to the company to fill in for an already depleted roster. CURRENT WWF FEUDS (or lack thereof) (01:34:08)With only THREE feuds going into 1993, we talk the lack of attempts at storylines, angles, and the writing during this period in the company. It becomes very evident that it was time to regroup and rebuild as the roster changes continue. BUSINESS & RATINGS WOES (01:36:59)There's a major decline in business and ratings by the end of 1992 which leads to new WWF TV programming and new stars. We also have a little fun with the old “There were TWO Ultimate Warriors” rumors that were all the rave back in the time period. THE JANUARY HOUSE SHOW LINEUPS (01:42:42)We investigate the matches and “marriages” on the WWF House Show loop for January as we head into the Royal Rumble. As we move into the list of matches it becomes quite obvious (and scary) that almost everyone on the upper mid-card and below were interchangeable as far as booking plans go here to start the year. Was it really just a lack of talent, or lazy booking? We also look at the grooming of Yokozuna as the next big thing as he is fed the likes of the Boss Man, Earthquake, and even the Macho Man himself! JANUARY 1993 TRYOUTS (01:56:42)At most of the syndicated TV Tapings, the WWF would feature Dark Matches prior to the televised matches featuring talent trying for a spot with the company.
