An Ohio mother is doused with gasoline and set on fire.  Judy Malinowski, then 31, suffered third-degree and fourth-degree burns over 90 percent of her body.  She was in a coma for seven months and underwent more than 60 surgeries. Malinowski was resuscitated seven times. She died in 2017, but not before providing three hours of recorded testimony that would be used in court against her attacker, her boyfriend, Michael Slager. This experience entailed investigations into cases involving murder, sex offenses, felony assault, prostitution & human trafficking, robbery and drug offenses.Dr. Porcher is a nationally recognized Criminal Justice expert providing testimony in high profile trials such as South Carolina v Michael Slager. Dr. Porcher regularly travels the country providing expert testimony in various parts of the United States.Dr. Porcher is also a retired Officer with the United States Army Reserve. Like fellow South Carolina native Dylann Roof, Slager remain behind bars for the rest of his life. While one Race Soldier may be criminally prosecuted for terrorizing with a badge, the officers who killed Alton Sterling during the summer of 2016 will not be criminally charged. There were a myriad of responses to the decision in Louisiana, including Louisiana State University's announcement that their student athletes should not wear school paraphernalia if they choose protest or publicly address the non-indictment. Days after whites mandated the recognition of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots, many across the country drew made paralells to Jordan Edwards - an unarmed 15-year-old black boy killed by enforcement officers in Texas. Like the beating of Rodney King, there's video footage of Edwards' final minutes of life. As of Friday, a murder warrant was issued for the arrest of Roy Oliver, the Race Solider who killed Edwards. Michael Slager, the former police officer who killed unarmed Walter Scott, walked free after a mistrial. Two days after failing to convict one White killer, the federal death penalty trial of White Terrorist Dylann Storm Roof began. If convicted, Roof could be executed for his June 2015 terrorist attack on Mother Emanuel AME Church, where he massacred 9 black worshippers including an elected official. The trial began by recounting the grousome details of Roof's purge. In Louisiana, a different White killer, Ronald Gasser, was finally arrested for killing former NFL star Joe McKnight. Gasser, who has a criminal history of "road rage," shot and killed the unarmed McKnight on Thursday of last week, but enjoyed his freedom until Monday of this week. The judge said he had no choice because the jury said it would never reach a consensus. Mr. Slager was charged in the fatal shooting of unarmed black motorist Walter Scott after an April 2015 traffic stop. The shooting was captured on cellphone video, which showed Mr. Slager, who is white, shooting Mr. Scott repeatedly in the back as he ran away. Mr. Slager pleaded not guilty, saying the shooting was in self-defense, as he feared for his life after fighting Mr. Scott for control of his police Taser.

President-elect Donald Trump labeled Castro a "brutal dictator," while Soledad O'Brien recounted her Cuban mother's memories of Castro's callous and vindictive rule. Jesse Jackson Sr. and Mumia Abu-Jamal recalled Castro's military support of the anti-apartheid effort in South Africa, offer of medical aid during Hurricane Katrina, the safe haven provided to former Black Panther Assata Shakur, and his rendezvous with Minister Malcolm X during his 1960 visit to the United States. Calls to scold the deceased Cuban leader for his acts of brutality seem particularly ironic on this week, when Mecklenburg District Attorney Andrew Murray announced that no charges would be filed for the killing of Keith Lamont Scott. Murray used the occasion to reprimand reckless negro use of social media. Simultaneously and further south, the Walter Scott murder trial is being deliberated by the jury. What happened to Symone Marshall, a 22 year old mother, who died in police custody on May 10? She was involved in a serious car accident on April 26 and instead of taking her to the hospital, the cops took her to jail for driving without a valid license. Questions are being asked, but the police are staying mum. The officer who shot Anthony Lamar Smith in 2011 has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder on May 16. The judge, who denied bail, reiterated that it doesn't matter if you are a police officer: if you commit a crime, you must be held responsible. The U.S. Justice Department announced that there will be an official review of the North Charleston PD in the matter of the 2015 shooting death of Walter Scott who was pulled over for a broken brake light and was gunned down when he fled. You may recall the video of ex-officer Michael Slager pursuing Scott, shooting him in the back, and placing his taser by Scott's corpse. North Charleston, SC will become the 11th US city to undergo a policing review by the feds. Michael Slager has also been indicted on federal charges for the murder of Walter Scott. Last week the US Dept of Health and Human Services announced that healthcare providers must provide transgender people with transition-affirmative health care. Remember the photo of the black West Point graduates with their fists in the air?  The sight of black women raising their fists drew the ire of some white Americans who demanded an investigation into the possibly unethical "political" display. In no time flat, several photos of graduates of West Point, white men with their fists in the air were unearthed.  Apparently, it is a solemn annual photographic tradition for the white graduates, but it raised a furor when black female graduates followed suit. Professor Claire "Tenured Radical" Potter is the guest on this installment of the podcast known as The Chauncey DeVega Show. Dr. Potter is a scholar of American Studies, history, and popular culture.
