We had the pleasure of interviewing joan over Zoom video!Beloved alt-pop duo joan, who have garnered over 200 million global streams and more than one million monthly listeners across streaming platforms, have unveiled their latest single "face" via Photo Finish Records. Co-written with Cris Stayton and co-written/produced by joan—Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford—"face" began as an experimental writing session on Zoom. The collaboration quickly turned into something much more personal, capturing an honest and poignant reflection on the passage of time and the longing for lost moments."This song is about time and how quickly it slips away," the band shares. "In the blink of an eye, something that seems like it could go on forever is gone, and what you previously took for granted, you would do literally anything to get a mundane second of it back.  Nothing is supposed to last forever, but sometimes you have to lose it to understand how special the moments you had together were.”Recorded and produced in their Little Rock studio, "face" is joined by an accompanying music video that blends live performance with projected imagery.  "We wanted to make it feel like a performance video with a twist," the band explains. "We shot Steven performing the song separately and then projected him onto the wall while Alan performed. It feels surreal, it feels connected even though we weren't. There's something eerie and beautiful about it."The new single follows joan's recently released tracks, “magic,” “heartbodymindsoul” and “eyes,” marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the band since their 2023 debut album, superglue.  joan are now gearing up for an underplay headline tour kicking off Apri 24th in Dallas, TX titled “the close friends tour.” This follows a sold-out Fall tour with MisterWives. Over the years, joan has performed in 15,000+ capacity venues in Asia, headlined festivals in the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and supported artists such as COIN, The Aces, The Maine, and Jeremy Zucker.joan's journey began with their debut EP portra and has since flourished through fan-favorite releases like cloudy & partly cloudy, hi & bye, and superglue. With each project, joan continue to expand their loyal following. We want to hear from you! Sudden Hearing Loss Can't Stop Multiplatinum Rapper K.Flay

Inside Mental Health: A Psych Central Podcast

One day last fall, multiplatinum recording artist K.Flay woke up deaf in her right ear — hearing loss that she later learned was permanent. Suddenly losing half your hearing is traumatic for anyone, but what if you make your living as a musician? The only thing our guest, K.Flay, could think to do was head to the studio and start making music, which was difficult with all the sensory changes she was experiencing. However, in a story of resilience and internal fortitude, K.Flay pressed onward. Listen as she shares her emotions and story and how that led to her latest album, MONO. To learn more -- or read the transcript -- please visit the official episode page. Our Guest is based in LA and originally from Illinois. Welcome multiplatinum artist K.Flay, born Kristine Flaherty, started rapping and writing songs on a lark while attending Stanford University and soon began releasing her self-produced mixtapes. In 2017, she released her major label debut album “Every Where Is Some Where,” earning two GRAMMY Award nominations for the album's iconic smash single “Blood in the Cut'' and sending her to arenas around the world with her kinetic live set. As a songwriter, musician, and producer, she's lent her talents to numerous collaborations, working with Fitz and the Tantrums, Bishop Briggs, Tom Morello, Louis the Child, Kaskade, Walk the Moon, Imagine Dragons, grandson, The Regrettes, Two Feet, MisterWives, and more. Whether working on her music or with others, K.Flay's output remains rooted in her undeniable lyrical skills, an element she attributes to her innate love of language and its infinite possibilities. This spring, she announced her fifth studio album MONO — due out September 15th. The LP is her first for Giant Music and is her first since going suddenly and completely deaf in her right ear at the end of last summer. Although K.Flay's hearing loss deeply informed her songwriting on MONO, the album marks the start of a new era for the artist who explores an entire spectrum of existential questions and complex matters of the heart and mind on the LP. Additionally, K.Flay wrote an original song “T-Rex” for Neflix's groundbreaking new animated film “Nimona” which was released last month. A relentlessly boundary-pushing artist with more than 1 BILLION streams and 100K+ tickets sold, K.Flay continues to commit herself to constant growth by holding herself to higher and more rigorous standards in every aspect of her artistry. Latest Uvalde developments: Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas House and Senate to convene special legislative committees to address school and gun safety in the wake of last week's school shooting in Uvalde, but stopping short of calling for a full special session of the Legislature. Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez, whose jurisdiction includes Uvalde, has accused Governor Abbott of attempting to "bamboozle" grieving locals with empty promises of legislative action. Five people remained hospitalized with injuries suffered in the shooting as of Wednesday, including a 10 year old girl who remains in serious condition. The Girl Scouts have posthumously honored shooting victim Amerie Jo Garza with its Bronze Cross, which is granted to members who display life-threatening heroism. A Wednesday night mobile home fire in north Austin has claimed the life of a young child. The City of Austin has filed a challenge with the U.S. Census Bureau, contesting the count in the most recent census in 2020 - we are the largest U.S. city so far to do so. The Austin Police Department is pushing for the reinstatement of automated license plate readers, or ALPR's - a tool that was suspended alongside budgetary modifications following the George Floyd protests in 2020. Meanwhile, five APD officers facing indictments over their use of force during those protests are suing the city, saying the “less than lethal” rounds employed during the demonstrations were defective, and that they were insufficiently trained in their use. TXDOT has begun an extensive project to remove those pesky stoplights from part of Loop 360. The criminal justice org Mano Amiga reports it has reached the necessary number of petition signatures to force a local vote on marijuana decriminalization in San Marcos. Texas French Bread announces its return, at first with sales via local farmers markets. The future of the historic building on 29th Street, largely destroyed by fire, remains uncertain. Texas Longhorns Men's Golf has won a national championship - its first NCAA title since 2012. Weekend live music features a boatload of interesting road shows: Friday includes The Mavericks at ACL Live at the Moody Theater, The Warlocks at Hotel Vegas, The Suffers and Emily Wells at the Parish, Night Drive at the Far Out Lounge, and KUTX's Rock The Park show witih Joe McDermott and Sir Woman at Mueller Lake Park. Saturday shows: Whores at the Parish, Diane Coffee at the Mohawk, and Symphony X at Empire Control Room. On Sunday, Steely Dan plays ACL Live, Lawrence and Misterwives are at Stubb's, and Lunar Vacation is at the Parish. Meanwhile, Panic! At The Disco will kick off their upcoming world tour with a show at Austin's Moody Center on September 8. And after a couple of cooler days with decent rain chances, "Mama Nature gets rude" - a string of potentially record-setting triple-digit days is on the way next week.
