For the past 40 years, the venerated Thrash Metal outfit HEATHEN have abided by their never-say-die attitude.Formed in 1984 in San Francisco's Bay Area—home to EXODUS, METALLICA, TESTAMENT, and DEATH ANGEL HEATHEN quickly separated themselves from the pack by expertly fusing David White's distinctive vocals with a melody-driven and forward-thinking musical style. The band's first two albums, Breaking the Silence and Victims of Deception, are widely regarded as Bay Area Thrash classics. The HEATHEN brand of intelligent yet aggressive Thrash appealed not only to the genre's core demographic, but also Metal fans looking for brains behind the brawn. The most recent full-length album, Empire of the Blind, continued to push the boundaries of the genre, expanding their audience while restoring faith in vicious yet brainy Thrash Metal, the very kind that put HEATHEN on the map.Since the release of their last album, Empire of the Blind, HEATHEN has toured nonstop, playing hundreds of shows across five continents. From the moment that the COVID restrictions lifted in 2022, the band hit the ground running, touring with contemporaries such as TESTAMENT, EXODUS, OVERKILL, and SYMPHONY X over the last three years. Recorded in several cities across the United States during the 2023 Bleed the World Tour, Bleed the World: Live is the perfect audio representation of the HEATHEN live show. Featuring songs from each of the band's albums, including recent tracks such as Sun in My Hand and The Blight as well as classics such as Hypnotized and Goblin's Blade, the live album mirrors the band's crushing live set list. The cover artwork by Travis Smith depicts a steel HEATHEN logo piercing the bleeding Earth, held by a hand that encapsulates the world tour as a moment in time. Produced by guitarist Kragen Lum and mixed by Zeuss, Bleed the World: Live transports the listener into the concert hall with a crystal-clear yet heavy production and captures the interaction between band and audience that makes every HEATHEN live show special.HEAVY caught up with Lum for a chat earlier today, starting with the early response to the album."All the feedback that we've gotten so far has been great," he smiled. "One person mentioned that it was like, if you closed your eyes, you were there at the show. And that was exactly what we were trying to do. We made sure that when we were recording, we recorded not just the band, but also the audience at every show so we could really get the live album feel. Those classic live albums that we used to love - Live After Death and many other ones - you feel like you're there because the audience is so prominent. The feedback from the crowd and everything in the song. And I think modern live albums are missing that because a lot of bands record the show, but they don't record the audience, and you're kind of missing an important element to the live show."In the full interview, Kragem spoke more about what to expect from Bleed The World: Live, the early feedback, if the band approached the concerts any differently knowing they were being recorded for an album, the process of putting together the tracks and selecting them, how critical the band members were of themselves when they listened back through, how they made every effort to replicate the live sound on the album, his early experiences with Heathen before joining, if there was any pressure on him coming into an established band and how long it took him to feel comfortable, their strike record of one album every ten years and if they plan to speed up that process moving forward, the possibilities of coming to Australia and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Myrath over Zoom video! With its incredibly personal, epic and beautiful progressive metal with Middle Eastern influences, Myrath has surely established itself as one of the most fascinating bands in the current international metal scene. Formed in 2001 in Tunisia, they are the voices of the revolution and combine lyrics critical of society with lush melodies and heavy guitars. In 2019, Myrath became the talk of Sweden Rock Festival, due to unforeseen circumstances. After playing their afternoon-slot, the band was already on their way to the airport when SRF called them to replace a headliner who has dropped out, because of their overwhelming show some hours before. To say they caused a sensation would be an understatement. The band, whose sound is akin to Dream Theater and Symphony X, has so far released five studio albums since 2007 - most recently the 2019 hit 'Shehili'.With millions of views on their cinematic music videos, world tours and appearances at the biggest festivals such as ProgRock, Hellfest, or Wacken, the band received praise in the most important rock magazines worldwide as well as by their ever-expanding fan base. Fans of Myrath's previous work will not be disappointed, as the band continues to evolve and push boundaries with each new release. "Karma" is a true masterpiece of modern metal, and a must-have for any serious music lover. With "Karma", Myrath solidify their place at the top of the metal scene with a powerful and captivating blend of Eastern melodies and Western heavy metal. From the epic opening track "To The Stars" to the hauntingly beautiful "Child Of Prophecy", this album will take you on a theatrical journey through a world of myth and legend.Featuring soaring vocals, intricate guitar riffs, and complex percussion, "Karma" showcases the virtuosity and creativity that have made Myrath one of the most exciting and innovative bands in the genre. With its stunning production and lush soundscapes, this album is sure to be a classic for years to come.We want to hear from you! Today's conversation is made twice the fun as we feature two veteran vocalists, Russell Allen and Annette Olson, who are legends on their own.  Russell Allen is known for his work with Symphony X and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Annette Olson is known for her work with Nightwish. Russell and Annette recently collaborated and released their second album together, titled Army of Dreamers. Yet, it's funny how these two fantastic artists had never met in person and never had a conversation before. And the way that they grow on each other as our tea time progresses is delightful to witness. Also, I find it fascinating how fame affects people differently. Both Russell and Annette have toured the world. Although they've seen a lot in their career, they both seem to particularly love the moments at home, in peace and quiet, with their family. Russell is also creating a video game and he's happy to have his kid test it out! In this episode, you will hear: Russell working as a knight at Medieval Times Dinner Theater Improvising their performance to “save the day” Exposing your kids to music education Their experience collaborating on an album How to approach recording without overtaxing your larynx Using technology to produce something really cool Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? Expect plenty of Eddie and Alex fanboy moments on this one.  While the core of this band has not changed much over time, and fans can be polar opposite when it comes to who the singer is, there is no doubting Van Halen's influence on so many guitar players and heavy metal bands.  No one can hold back this eruption, so strap in and enjoy! #discussmetal #vanhalen Check out The Nerf Herder Council at http://nerfherdercouncil.com and Talking Into Infinity everywhere you listen to podcasts. Latest Uvalde developments: Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas House and Senate to convene special legislative committees to address school and gun safety in the wake of last week's school shooting in Uvalde, but stopping short of calling for a full special session of the Legislature. Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez, whose jurisdiction includes Uvalde, has accused Governor Abbott of attempting to "bamboozle" grieving locals with empty promises of legislative action. Five people remained hospitalized with injuries suffered in the shooting as of Wednesday, including a 10 year old girl who remains in serious condition. The Girl Scouts have posthumously honored shooting victim Amerie Jo Garza with its Bronze Cross, which is granted to members who display life-threatening heroism. A Wednesday night mobile home fire in north Austin has claimed the life of a young child. The City of Austin has filed a challenge with the U.S. Census Bureau, contesting the count in the most recent census in 2020 - we are the largest U.S. city so far to do so. The Austin Police Department is pushing for the reinstatement of automated license plate readers, or ALPR's - a tool that was suspended alongside budgetary modifications following the George Floyd protests in 2020. Meanwhile, five APD officers facing indictments over their use of force during those protests are suing the city, saying the “less than lethal” rounds employed during the demonstrations were defective, and that they were insufficiently trained in their use. TXDOT has begun an extensive project to remove those pesky stoplights from part of Loop 360. The criminal justice org Mano Amiga reports it has reached the necessary number of petition signatures to force a local vote on marijuana decriminalization in San Marcos. Texas French Bread announces its return, at first with sales via local farmers markets. The future of the historic building on 29th Street, largely destroyed by fire, remains uncertain. Texas Longhorns Men's Golf has won a national championship - its first NCAA title since 2012. Weekend live music features a boatload of interesting road shows: Friday includes The Mavericks at ACL Live at the Moody Theater, The Warlocks at Hotel Vegas, The Suffers and Emily Wells at the Parish, Night Drive at the Far Out Lounge, and KUTX's Rock The Park show witih Joe McDermott and Sir Woman at Mueller Lake Park. Saturday shows: Whores at the Parish, Diane Coffee at the Mohawk, and Symphony X at Empire Control Room. On Sunday, Steely Dan plays ACL Live, Lawrence and Misterwives are at Stubb's, and Lunar Vacation is at the Parish. Meanwhile, Panic! At The Disco will kick off their upcoming world tour with a show at Austin's Moody Center on September 8. And after a couple of cooler days with decent rain chances, "Mama Nature gets rude" - a string of potentially record-setting triple-digit days is on the way next week.
