In this deeply reflective episode, we explore the profound power of discomfort and how leaning into it can lead to significant personal growth. Inspired by my own journey of sharing vulnerable truths in a previous episode, I delve into the surprising lessons I learned about discomfort, especially in how we receive care and support from others. I discuss the practice of embracing small discomforts daily, as a way to build resilience and prepare for the bigger challenges in life. We also break down the “Motivational Triad” — and explain why understanding this model can help us update our systems and shift from our primitive responses to more empowered, growth-oriented actions. Key Takeaways: 1. Discomfort as Growth: Discomfort is a practice, not just a one-time experience. By leaning into small discomforts regularly, we prepare ourselves to handle more significant challenges and grow from them. 2. The Motivational Triad: Our primitive brain is wired to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and conserve energy. By understanding these instincts, we can consciously choose discomfort and step into our growth zone. 3. Protective Parts: Explore how protective behaviours like people-pleasing and high-achieving are strategies we develop to avoid discomfort. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward choosing a different, more empowering path. 4. Vulnerability and Discomfort: Vulnerability and discomfort go hand in hand. Sharing our truths, even when it feels risky, opens us up to deeper connections and personal growth. Why Listen: If you've ever felt stuck in a cycle of comfort, this episode will inspire you to start embracing discomfort as a powerful tool for growth. Whether it's taking cold showers, having courageous conversations, or setting boundaries, we explore practical ways to step into discomfort and experience the transformation that comes with it. Join the Conversation: I'd love to hear how you're leaning into discomfort in your own life. In your brains point of view it's the opposite of seeking pleasure, avoiding pain and being efficient. But you don't use this as an excuse to do nothing and stay stuck, on the contrary! This understanding will help you that you finally do what you say you want to do but from a place of compassion and self-love. Sounds like a weird question to ask yet we always ask that and there is a reason why we keep doing the same things over and over. Why do certain people keep falling into the same traps time and again? Why do men pick the same type of woman over and over again? Why do we struggle on improving ourselves? Why do we struggle on losing weight? Why do we struggle on improving our minds improving our souls or improving our communities? The reason is because of what actually motivates us to do what we do. And this concept is called the motivational triad. The reasons why you are always going for that piece of german chocolate cake even though you are full. Why you are a creature of habit. Why do you lie to your boss, though you know it puts you out of integrity? These three motivations are what get us out of the bed. Seek pleasure Pleasure is more than just sex. Seeking pleasure is what motivates many addicts. It is what drives us to please our spouses. It also is what drives us to want to make friends and to get paid for our hard work. Seeking pleasure is also the reason we take up hobbies and other things that bring us satisfaction. Satisfaction is a type of pleasure. Approval is also a type of pleasure. When we get approval from somebody we are sure that we're not going to be tossed out of the tribe. This is one of the large reasons nice guys do what they do. Nice guys want to please the women in their life that's why they manipulate so many people to try to force people to like them. Nice guys need satisfaction and the pleasure to come from those around them. The Nice guy doesn't seek personal approval he doesn't seek internal validation. The nice guy is a codependent who requires validation from other people. To be able to get the pleasure that they want they're going to do the manipulation, because of the second layer of the motivational triad this is also why nice guys do covert contracts and we'll get into that in the next section. avoid pain There's nothing scarier than pain. Often you'll hear kids ask will it hurt? But pain isn't just physical pain it is also it's not even emotional pain people associate discomfort with pain. Nice guys create covert contracts because they don't wanna have to deal with this comfort pain of possibly being rejected. We often avoid having those uncomfortable discussions because of this part of the motivational triad. As humans we often Don't want to do things that create pain for us. That can be admitting to something wrong. That can be us not wanting to go out of the house. This is what causes us to avoid doing the hard scary things in life. Our mind is programmed to avoid that pain. Instead we need to use that pain as a compass stay and remain efficient This third part of the motivational triad is the reason we develop habits because our brain wants to make sure that it stays as efficient as possible so it's easier for the mind to dive into a habit than it is to learn something new. Learning something new means that there's a lot more energy that has to be burned a lot more energy being burned means that we are burning off more energy than normal or more energy than we have to and white if we don't get to eat later on today? Then that means that our learning could possibly have killed us. So having to pay attention to every little detail is energy intensive for the brain. So the brain going to find ways to reduce that energy consumption. It does that by forming habits. This part of the motivational triad is why our habits system exists. You can look at it as the low-power mode of our mind if he can throw stuff into that better. Yet this also is where our brain likes to turn to when it “doesn't know“ if it doesn't have to work to come up with an answer if deems that better. So What does this mean? It means that we are able to make changes to what we do if we are aware of the whys that we do. If you understand why you don't want to do something scary you can actually do that scary thing. Your mind doesn't want you to get killed. So how do you remove that fear? By understanding why that fear exists in the first place. If you would like help in getting to the best you. Reach out and let's talk and see how I can help you.

We've created a society that makes everything so simple. With the push of a button, we can have highly-processed food, entertainment, and all of the excess we can handle (and even some we can't). This has led to unprecedented levels of disease, despair, and death. We are caught in the pleasure trap. But there is good news. We DO have the power to override these temptations and allow our bodies to heal. In November 1984, Dr. Alan Goldhamer opened the True North Health Center. They create a health-promoting environment through an SOS-Free Diet (that's salt, oil, and sugar) and water-only fasting. As you can imagine, this monitored approach to healing was once seen as complete quackery. Today? Because of the data, peer-reviewed studies, and astonishing results, fasting, and fasting-mimicking diets are now considered mainstream. Today, Dr. Goldhamer explains how and why it really is healthy to give your body a chance to rest, reboot, and break some of those physiological addictive behaviors that are keeping us sick. The motivational triad explaines how our brain can keep us from decluttering or achieving any other goal. These are three principles: seek pleasure, avoid pain, and be efficient.  Animals and humans were all designed with these three principle motivations. These three motivations have made sure that we were properly nourished, that we procreated, and they have helped us minimize and even avoid threats to our survival. The are very important and do a lot of good for us, but in our modern world they can and do also keep us stuck. Our brain looks at decluttering (or achieving any other goal) as danger, in your brains point of view it's the opposite of seeking pleasure, avoiding pain and beeing efficient. So I talk you through how you need to rewire your brain so that you can actually achieve your decluttering goals,  because the life you want is on the other side of all that clutter. Taking control of your brain is the only way to create what you want, and this is what I help my clients with as a clutter clearing coach. One of the biggest issues brought to me by clients is this: 'I just don't know how to relax and unwind without food at the end of the day/week'... Here's the thing: OUR HUMANS BRAINS ARE DESIGNED TO SEEK PLEASURE AND AVOID PAIN. (It's part of something called the Motivational Triad!) In short, it makes TOTAL sense for us as humans to seek forms of 'Escapism'. ESCAPISM is defined as a mental diversion within our daily life and /or an 'escape' from the day-to-day routine activities. I can't tell you how many women I've coached who have told me that they don't know how to relax, and that their ONLY method of escapism involves food. On this week's podcast episode I teach you the importance of NOT judging yourself or ANY forms of escapism   but instead, to simply understand your mind, you brain, your choices, actions and  results so that you can do 'ESCAPISM' ON PURPOSE. (That's ultimately what matters.) If you feel like food is your only means of escapism, I want to invite you to diversify your options...to explore other means of escapism on purpose that work for YOU. It's essential that we teach our brain how to relax, unwind, decompress and have other means of escapism that FIT INTO YOUR LIFE; that contribute to your life in a way that works for you. NOT JUDGING my human brains' desire for escapism (motivational triad, remember!) and INSTEAD doing it 'on-purpose' has revolutionized my life (and results!). In today's episode we talk about MOTIVATION! I struggle with motivation. I overthink, and suffer (yes, suffer) from Perfectionism and these two things are HUGE motivational blocks. We all have dreams, and goals that we want to achieve no matter the scale, but do you keep finding yourself no further along year after year? Are you constantly resetting the “resolution” clock every New Years???ME!! I've been there, so let's dive into what motivation is and how we can get more of it!What is motivation >> Motivation is the energy and/or reason to act or behave in a certain way.The most powerful and domineering section of our brain is structured around our survival and is very impulsive, always looking for the easy way out. And you'll always be prone to blindly follow its lead, until you understand why and how it works. And decide to do it differentlyOur brains are composed of three main sections that function at three different levels & we dive into what each area is responsible for:Low-level or Reptilian Brain  Mid-level, or Mammalian Brain (Limbic System)High-level, or Human Brain (Neocortex) Although these three sections are very distinct and do very different things, they do have a synergistic relationship and communicate between each other, holistically sharing responsibilities. So why is it that we prefer pizza over salad or broccoli? Why do we resist doing that grueling workout? Or why do we spend countless hours on our mobile devices, or watching TV? Because our most powerful motivational and emotional drivers in our brain reside in our mid-level “mammalian” brain, our Limbic System. And our actions at this level are motivated by three deeply rooted survival instincts…These three instincts have been coined the “Motivational Triad”, and it is crucial to learn and understand what they are and the effects they have on us, and what to do should we need to overcome their powerful habits.Tune in to the episode to learn ALL ABOUT IT!Make sure you are part of the cool kid's club and join us over in our Facebook group, The BOLD insiders. What is it that allows some guys to achieve their goals and perform optimally while others keep falling short of their aspirations? Today we talk again about buffering and how it prevents you from becoming the man you want to be. We are all inclined to buffer but we do it in different ways – some of which you may not even be consciously aware of. While you don't have to stop buffering to improve, you will not be able to achieve your alpha state without removing the barrier of buffering. In this episode, I walk you through the program that the beta system is built on and that keeps men trapped in their primordial, survival-oriented mode of existence. The system is called the motivational triad, and while it was meant to keep the body alive, it now perpetuates the beta condition in the 21st century when we no longer need to be running away from wild animals. The thee corners of the motivation triad are seeking pleasure, avoiding pain, and efficiency. When something in the environment elicits pleasure or pain, it signals to the brain to either repeat or avoid the activity. If we didn't have those triggers, we wouldn't have sex or eat food, which would cause our species to become extinct. And this is where buffering comes in: certain activities trigger your pleasure center and make you repeat the behavior, and this is detrimental to your journey of becoming an irresistible man of confidence. The good news is that we can leverage the motivational triad to reprogram our brains. By flipping the motivational triad on its head, you can rewire your brain and regain control over your thoughts and behaviors, becoming the alpha male you know you can be. I'm always excited to record the podcast for you guys, but this week is a special one because today's topic is really the cornerstone of my work as a life coach for widowed moms: understanding why the motivational triad was useful at one stage but how it now holds you back, along with a new motivational triad to practice will reframe your life in the best way possible. Want to grab a glass of wine after work? Yes please! I'll meet you at the bar and enjoy myself a glass of red with you. But why are we craving this glass (or two) of wine after work? What's happening to our brains and bodies after a long day at the dental office? Where do these cravings come from and why do we always seek them out after a particularly stressful day? The secret is in the dopamine, and I'm explaining why in today's episode of Feeling Good. Nature developed systems that keep your body in line, and every action our brain thinks is essential to our survival is rewarded with a treat. In this case, that treat is dopamine, a neurotransmitter that boosts your mood and reinforces certain behaviors. Dopamine is our natural stress reliever, and we will seek out whatever action, that glass of wine, that sugary treat, or maybe even a hug from a lover or friend, in order to get that rush of dopamine. Our brain doesn't realize that some of these behaviors are unhealthy, but we seek them out because they're normal, easy, and they've become a part of our routine. This doesn't mean we don't deserve those glasses of wine after a hard day's work. What I'm here to explain today is WHY we want that glass of wine. Once you understand why, it's easier to retrain your brain and develop different ways to release dopamine and relieve stress that makes sense for our lifestyle as dentists. You don't have to keep relying on the supernormal stimuli to relieve your stress, and my way of coach-splaining in today's episode just might inspire you to start looking for new ways to retrain your brain! Tune in now to hear all about the secrets of dopamine and dentistry!
