Editor's Note: I generally publish three episodes a month, but I wanted to share this bonus, fourth episode with you as I know there will be a lot of people embarking on road trips in the coming days. As such, I've chosen one of my earliest interviews to re-release, and it's my first interview with Dr. Pat Friman (originally released in August of 2016!?!?), who as many of you know, went on to appear in several more Behavioral Observations Episodes. What I will say though is that if you're listening to this re-release of Session 10 shortly after it is published, that there is a huge CEU sale going on right now. These huge discounts that are available now through November 27th. And if you're catching this show after the sale is over, I usually have a few different discounts going so it's worth checking out no matter when you hear this. And speaking of Pat Friman, three of his later appearances on the show are indeed eligible for CEUs, so if you enjoy his message and want to hear more of it, and earn CEUs along the way, then this sounds like a win-win. In Session 10 of The Behavioral Observations Podcast, I speak with none other than Dr. Pat Friman. Pat is the Vice President of Behavioral Health Services at Boys Town as well as a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. In today's show, Pat tells the story of how he literally wandered into a career in Behavior Analysis as well as the remarkable story of how Boys Town was started and how it serves children and families today. We then talk about his point of view on functional assessment practices, how he interviews parents, his take on what we refer to as, "kids these days," and Behavior Analysts as parents. With regard to the latter, I accidentally broach some of my own parenting struggles, so you might have some fun at my expense (your welcome). If you enjoyed the show, please share it with friends and colleagues!
You agency owners out there are cramming a little too much in the everyday: pay special attention to this episode. Guest Scott Anderson is an expert coach in burnout recovery, and he's here to share alongside host Jim Schubert how, despite its major setbacks, burnout can be a blessing. Hear how you can implement his model for de-stressing and decluttering your mind, effective in as little as FIVE SECONDS, on this episode of Agents Growth Academy.3 Key TakeawaysThe number one key to recovering from burnout is noticing when you're stressed out. Be aware and listen to your body throughout the day. Take intentional recovery breaks–as little as five seconds to five minutes–and watch the habit make you present and less worried. Use your apple watch to remind yourself to relax if you need to. Reduce your daily tasks that are creating white noise in your mind by identifying what only you can do, love to do, and what will move the needle for your business.ResourcesThe Untethered Soul by Michael SingerWebsite Join their Facebook group: Beyond BurnoutAbout Scott Anderson Scott is a serial entrepreneur whose entry into business started when he was tasked with turning around a 3rd generation family group of construction equipment and industrial engine companies, which he was able to scale and sell at a premium.Following this, Scott built 3 for-profit businesses, including an agency that he ran for over 25 years and later sold to his employees.Scott also combined his business acumen with his experience as a licensed mental health therapist to establish the not-for-profit, AtEaseUSA.org, which develops and deploys leading-edge PTSD treatment technology in partnership with Tel Aviv University and the Israeli government.Scott's experience in business is matched by his premier training in coaching and therapy. Peak Human - Unbiased Nutrition Info for Optimum Health, Fitness & Living
Hey, hey, how is everyone doing out there? Spectacular I assume. Not many updates this week. I’m just working away on the Food Lies film and the new interviews we got. You can still support it on Indiegogo by clicking through http://FoodLies.org - it’s a community powered project and we’ve taken no outside money at all. Just from the beautiful people like you listening. I’m working on more videos for Patreon supporters. If you go to http://Patreon.com/peakhuman or search for Peak Human there you can support the show, get the extended show notes that are super useful and really add up to entire eBook on nutrition, and get the private videos on cooking and working out as well. Speaking of eBooks, Kristi and I are actually creating a Sapien eBook and 10 week program for complete info on what the Sapien diet and lifestyle is and how to implement it in your life. Look for it soon on http://Sapien.org Lastly just a quick mention of http://nosetotail.org where you can get the grass finished, pasture raised, beyond organic, high omega-3, regenerative farmed meats. It’s grown here in the US (not shipped in all the way from New Zealand like some other meat box services) and delivered to all 48 states. We use the whole animal so boxes come with all kinds of cuts including the ground beef with liver, heart, kidney, and spleen mixed in, as well as the bones for marrow and broth. I’m all about the high omega-3 ground pork breakfast sausage these days. It's already seasoned and you can fry up the most delicious patties with some eggs and maybe a little cheese. If you ever liked fast food breakfast, you’ll think it was gross compared to this meal. You can get it with or without the organs mixed in. We feed the pigs and chickens a special feed (which is pretty expensive) to give them this high omega 3 to omega 6 ratio. It has been independently tested and it blows conventional and even organic pork out of the water. That’s at http://nosetotail.org Now onto this awesome panel discussion! We covered a bunch of stuff including why is fat not bad, but actually good? Why are the Dietary guidelines wrong and what’s stopping mainstream adoption? Is sugar a drug? Why carbs are actually worse than protein/fat for health. Insulin, longevity, and if there are any downsides or myths about these types of diets? I’ve had Ben and Jaime on the podcast already, so you should already know who they are, or I’d recommend going back and listening to their episodes. I say this a lot, but I really recommend going back to episode 1. And please share with friends and family. People send me a lot of messages about how beneficial this podcast is for people new to these topics. They share it and they get hooked! Dr. Aseem Malhotra is a British Cardiologist who’s making waves around the world. I’ll give him a full intro when he comes on the podcast in a couple weeks. We have awesome footage of this panel that will make it to the Food Lies youtube channel soon! Until then, here’s the 3 brainiacs and their wise words! BUY THE MEAT NosetoTail.org Support me on Patreon! http://patreon.com/peakhuman Preorder the film here: http://indiegogo.com/projects/food-lies-post SHOW NOTES We have three guests with us today from the Metabolic Health Summit. Dr. Aseem Malhotra is becoming one of the most influential cardiologists in Britain and a world leading expert in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. He is successfully leading the campaign against excessive sugar consumption. The award-winning NHS cardiologist has successfully motivated leading academics, the media and politicians to make sugar reduction a health priority in the UK by publishing commentaries in the BMJ and mainstream media. Hey, hey, we’re back. Let’s get straight to it. I gotta get back to working on the Game Changers DEBUNKED film. Please support that on http://Indiegogo.com/projects/gamechangers-debunked or click through the show notes. Just to make sure, I want to let people know this a scientific and factual debunking film with researchers and doctors addressing the science. Yes, we have a bit of fun here and there to keep it interesting, but it’s all about the truth, and exposing their cherry picking and misrepresenting science to fit their agenda. Dr. Jaime Seeman AKA Dr. Fit and Fabulous is a board certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist with a background in Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science. She is also a current Fellow in Integrative Medicine and a Board Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist. She did her undergraduate training at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was a collegiate athlete for the Cornhuskers receiving many awards and honors. She then continued her education at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine where she received her Doctor of Medicine degree. She is a wife and mom to three little girls. This was an awesome one - so many topics my guests haven’t covered yet. I wish we recorded some more updated stuff about the blood spinning tests she’s doing for the Game Changers DEBUNKED mini-doc. She ate 5 eggs and 3 pieces of bacon and spun her blood in a centrifuge and it was - guess what - clear. The Game Changers mockumentary tried to say animal foods caused cloudy blood plasma. They did a little “experiment” in the film and showed it was cloudy after a beef burrito and clear after a bean burrito. They are outright liars and cheaters I tell ya! They are deceiving the world with false information. Two engineers in Seattle also debunked this by eating huge amounts of lamb and milk fat and producing clear blood plasma as well. Dr. Jaime is going to do a 2nd experiment tomorrow and match the amount of fat and calories of a beef and cheese burrito with a vegan burrito and see if it produces cloudy blood. What’s likely going on here is that eating a high carb AND high fat meal creates more triglycerides in the blood for a longer time. There’s more to this that will all be explained in the mini-doc. So please support that on Indiegogo in the last few days of the campaign. There’s a lot of overtime going into this with editors, graphics people, sound people, etc. Food Lies is looking great - I just was going over some of it with the separate editing team. NoseToTail.org is firing on all cylinders and it’s hard for us to keep that good meat in stock. Learn more about all this at http://sapien.org And give this podcast a review on Apple! Thanks so much! I can’t wait to air this mini-doc on November 27th on YouTube. We’ll have a Meat-Up and viewing party in Seattle - Sunday Dec 1st and another one in LA on thursday Dec 5th. This session of the podcast is sponsored by bSci21.org. If you're interested in a good article about parenting, check out Zainab Fazal's piece called, "My Kids Won't Stop Fighting! How ABA Can Reduce Sibling Rivalry." If you enjoyed the show, please take a minute to leave a rating and review in iTunes. It makes the podcast more visible, which helps spread the word of Behavior Analysis.

Guest: Philip Smith, MD Host: Mark Nolan Hill, MD Guest: Lona Mody, MBBS Providing healthcare in an influenza pandemic would likely bring an all-hands-on-deck approach. The staff at nursing homes and other care facilities would be enlisted to supply treatment to their own residents, likely in addition to outside patients requiring immediate assistance. How can nursing home institutions train their care providers for the specific demands of a pandemic flu scenario? What would be the special needs of nursing home residents during this time? For a closer look at these questions and more, host Dr. Mark Nolan Hill welcomes Dr. Philip Smith, professor and chief of infectious diseases at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine, and Dr. Lona Mody, assistant professor of internal medicine in the division of geriatric medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School.
Guest: Philip Smith, MD Host: Mark Nolan Hill, MD Guest: Lona Mody, MBBS A major disaster scenario in the United States would likely overwhelm acute care hospitals. Nursing homes present one alternative location for providing care. In the case of a pandemic influenza outbreak, are these care facilities prepared to handle an overflow of patients? From an ethical standpoint, are they obliged to extend their services to the population at large? Dr. Philip Smith, professor and chief of infectious diseases at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine, and Dr. Lona Mody, assistant professor of internal medicine in the division of geriatric medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School, also examine the need for nursing homes to maintain open lines of local and regional communication with other facilities and public health officials. Dr. Mark Nolan Hill hosts.
