David Awram, Sr. Executive Vice President, Co-Founder, and Director of Sandstorm Gold  (TSX: SSL) (NYSE: SAND), joins me for a review the key takeaways from Q1 2024 financials and operations.  We also got into many of the key royalty partner projects feeding into the larger growth profile over the next 5 years for this mid-tier precious metals royalty company.  Sandstorm Gold is diversified across 250 royalties, 40 producing assets, exploration optionality, different jurisdictions, and has a leading cost profile from producing royalty partners.    This is wide-ranging discussion that gets into the value proposition and key attributes of Sandstorm Gold within it's peer group of royalty companies.  We spend some time unpacking some of the key projects they hold royalties on that are partnered with senior mining companies as operators, that are well capitalized to have more exploration and development upside than the market is anticipating.  Some of the projects Dave outlined were the Houndé Project operated by Endeavour Mining, the Bonikro Project operated by Allied Gold, the Barry Project operated by Bonterra Resources (that is being combined with Osisko Mining's Windfall Project), and Caserones operated by Lundin Mining.   Next we got into some of the large development projects that are moving down the development pipeline and into production, as big contributors to future gold equivalent ounces and revenues.  We reviewed how Equinox's Greenstone Mine has just had first gold pour, as the 4th largest gold mine in Canada and a big win for Sandstorm and the Canadian mining sector at large. Next Dave highlighted a recent site visit to Ivanhoe Mining's Platreef Project in South Africa, and how construction is well underway to bring this mine into commercial production by next year. We then reviewed the cornerstone Hod Madden royalty asset in Turkey, and how the terms on this asset and conversion into a  gold stream have changed over time, including the sale of the 30% interest in the project to Horizon Copper Corp.  Lastly we wrap up with a look ahead to the Mara gold stream operated by Glencore, as an example of how a royalty purchase can change hands and become incredibly value-accretive.    If you have any questions for Dave regarding Sandstorm Gold, then please email me at Shad@kereport.com and we'll get them addressed, or covered in a future interview.   In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Sandstorm Gold at the time of this recording.    Click here to follow along with the news from Sandstorm Gold.

Dave Bartoo of the College Football Matrix joins the show on the Farm Bureau guest line talking about all of the numbers in college basketball live in the BankPlus Studio. Dave talks about how big the difference in home scoring efficiency vs on the road is for a lot of teams. Dave looks at Mississippi State and notes that they are actually better on the road than they are at home. Dave wonders if Alabama will have an early exit because their road scoring efficiency numbers are terrible. Dave gives the best offensive, defensive, and balanced teams in the SEC heading into the tournament. Yahoo Sports writer Ross Dellenger joins the show on the Farm Bureau guest line talking about the changing landscape of college football live in the BankPlus Studio. Ross looks at the conference realignment and how the B1G and SEC stacked up during the transition. Ross wonders if the ACC and Big 12 will have enough pull to override the requests of the SEC and B1G and what will happen if they can't. Ross breaks down the possible format of the College Football Playoffs and talks about how the SEC benefits most from the changes. Bo asks Ross if the Group of 5 schools could create their own playoffs and he doesn't think it's as likely as people think. Ross mentions there are conversations going on about the playoff games and if they would overlap with the Army vs Navy game. Ross thinks the ACC has the ball in their court and will decide the fate of college football with their decisions. Bo asks Ross if Florida State could really pull away from the AC and he says there's no turning back now. Ross thinks about the next moves for teams in the ACC and who would be the first to leave. Ross gives a list of four schools that are most likely to join the SEC if the ACC implodes. Aerosmith has a Las Vegas residency and the guys have thoughts about it before they brainstorm more old-man-injury-themed bands. Evan opens with a Crewind where he recaps his epic double feature of MENACE II SOCIETY and CITY OF GOD (3:12), two excellent movies that make similar statements about the cyclical nature of poverty, crime and corruption. Then Kris takes over to discuss ALPHA (11:18), a film about the first human/canine companionship that he really wishes was better. Next Dave reviews CRAZY RICH ASIANS (26:11), a romantic comedy that largely fits the genre mold aside from the fact that the whole cast is Asian and the male lead is boring. After that Evan quickly covers NEVER GOIN’ BACK and SKATE KITCHEN (39:55), two films written and directed by women (yay) about high school girls cutting loose. Last, and certainly least, Dave and Kris wrap up with MILE 22 (44:47), the choppily edited Mark Walhberg/Peter Berg vehicle that’s too timid to identify the countries it maligns.

Just how old was the PEZ that Evan ate recently? Find out on this week’s episode! After the guys chomp through the answer, Evan and Kris share their most triumphant experience watching the Slaughterhouse Movie Club’s burlesque show and presentation of BILL & TED’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE (5:15) on the big screen. Next Dave fills them in on his not-so-hazy adventure tracing the evolution pot films (8:37), where he saw cannabis classics like REEFER MADNESS, MARIHUANA, SHE SHOULD HAVE SAID NO, EASY RIDER, and 9 TO 5. Once the smoke clears, Evan digs into MAKTUB (20:46), the adorable Israeli film about two mobsters who attempt reform by granting people’s wishes…in their own way. Unfortunately following his glowing review, Dave must reveal why UNFRIENDED: THE DARK WEB (31:00), a movie Evan and Kris hoped to see, is a terrible sequel to its smart predecessor. Finally, Kris and Dave wrap things up with THE EQUALIZER 2, another sequel that doesn’t measure up, mainly because, as they point out, it doesn’t feel nearly as dangerous, and lacks cohesiveness with its pacing and plot.

This week the guys reminisce about long-gone insults of yesteryear before Kris offers a unique barb of his own design. For the movies, Evan delivers a “Crewind” of G.I. JANE (5:00), the Ridley Scott picture where Demi Moore is a badass Navy SEAL in training trapped in a story that gets a little muddled with conspiracy plots. Next Dave covers TOO FUNNY TO FAIL (17:17), a rollicking documentary on Hulu about the short-lived DANA CARVEY SHOW that explains that the inspiration for some of the show’s best sketches while reflecting on its failure. Then the guys take on SUBURBICON (28:35), a George Clooney film that borrows an old Coen Brothers script, but fails to imitate them effectively. While they chide it for being too heavy-handed and trying to cover too much narrative ground, they can all agree that Oscar Isaac injects much-needed vitality into his brief scenes.

This week the guys discuss the narrative differences between Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” and film adaptations of her tale at the start of the show. Then Evan reviews Macon Blair’s directorial debut I DON’T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE (at 5:01), which has a title that sounds like a Facebook status Kris would have written if it had existed in 1995. Blair borrows stylistic elements from director Jeremy Saulnier, but his film lacks the intensity, excitement, and payoff of Saulnier’s movies. Next Dave spoilerpieces Evan and Kris into never seeing THE PROMISE (at 27:22), which is like PEARL HARBOR with more death, and a less interesting love story. If you’re looking for context or history behind the Armenian genocide depicted in the movie, you won’t find it. Lastly, Kris closes with Ben Wheatley’s FREE FIRE (at 47:30), a short, stylized action flick with an outcome that is not as funny as its set up. Kris talks about how Wheatley seems more interested in color, movement, and brutality than getting you to care about what his characters are saying, and why that’s disappointing as a viewer.

Evan leads off with AMANDA KNOX (at 12:22), at Netflix documentary that proves police investigatory techniques are flawed all over the world. Next Dave talks all about THE GREASY STRANGLER (at 20:34), one of the least pleasant experiences he has ever had watching a movie. Then Kris and Dave explore THE BIRTH OF A NATION (at 32:36), a loaded movie with a lot of issues worthy of discussion, including the director’s past. Finally, Evan and Dave close with THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN (at 58:10), a mediocre thriller that’s great for its central female characters and their performances, but disappointing for its narrow focus on baby-related-drama.

This week the guys give you the lowdown on their recording equipment, before Kris shares why the atrocious GODS OF EGYPT left him feeling rattled. Part of it has to do with its 120 minutes of confusing plot and Gerard Butler's mysterious decision to use his Scottish accent. The whole experience left Kris too depressed to chide a fellow theatergoer for using his phone during the picture, so he decides to pass the mic. Next Dave and Evan review TRIPLE 9, a movie that with lots of good killin' and great action. Kate Winslet does a terrible Russian accent, the film is overstuffed with plot, and goes along too long, but Woody Harrelson is amazing, even if he could play his role in his sleep. Finally, the guys fulfill their promise from last episode of revisiting Tim Burton's BATMAN. Dave and Evan go over the massive plot holes, continuity errors, and other various things that bother them from their most recent viewing, although they do take some time to talk about what they still love about the movie in spite of those shortcomings.
