ADAM HENLEY on BLAKE'S 7 series oneFirst broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on April 6th 2025.A couple of months ago, a new voice joined us on VISION ON SOUND in the form of ADAM HENLEY, and he introduced himself by talking about both his personal television history and a little bit about THE WEST WING.This went so well, that ADAM felt like making another appearance and, as he'd just finished watching the exciting new Blu-Ray release of the first series of BLAKE'S SEVEN, we thought we'd spend an hour having a bit of a chat about this iconic late 1970s BBC science-fiction series as it gets re-introduced to its long-standing fans and, perhaps a brand new generation eager to explore this fascinating dystopian drama.BLAKE'S SEVEN was a science-fiction series created by TERRY NATION who had been one of the early writers on DOCTOR WHO, for which he created the iconic Daleks, and he had also created the post apocalyptic drama series SURVIVORS for the BBC a few years earlier, so this exploration of a rebellion against the forces of the evil Federation was definitely just the sort of bleak vision of the future that you might expect from him.The series itself lasted for four series and fifty-two fifty minute episodes and ended on a shattering cliffhanger that definitely left its scars on a generation of television viewers just before Christmas 1981.Its first season introduced BLAKE played by GARETH THOMAS and his loyal–ish gang of rebels and freedom-fighters as played by SALLY KNYVETTE as space pilot JENNA, MICHAEL KEATING as lock-picking wizard VILA, DAVID JACKSON as the man-mountain GAN, JAN CHAPPELL as the telepathic alien CALLY, and PAUL DARROW as the enigmatic AVON who would eventually take the leading role as the series progressed. They were helped enormously by the fact that they luckily managed to acquire the super starship LIBERATOR and its wise master computer ZEN, as voiced by PETER TUDDENHAM, and this was how the original SEVEN was made up.Towards the end of the first series, and another devastating cliffhanger that helped give the show an astonishingly high profile at the time, another super computer ORAC was introduced, which changed the dynamic of the show in its second year. The forces of the Federation were mostly represented by JACQUELINE PEARCE as SERVALAN, a powerful and ruthless woman prone to wearing astonishing gowns, and STEPHEN GREIF as TRAVIS, a hate-fuelled leather-clad cyborg with an eyepatch and a gun for a hand, and they crossed swords with BLAKE and his crew on several occasions during the second half of this series.Fans of BLAKE'S SEVEN had been waiting a long time for it to get the Blu-Ray release that they felt it deserved, with many of its special effects updated from their somewhat low-budget and dated roots, and ADAM was one of the enthusiastic early adopters, and was very eager to share his enthusiasm with us today.PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

I'm joined by Richard Hopkins-Lutz and Mike Nichols (with a special guest cameo by Allen Wright) to discuss the six part mini series "The Legend of Robin Hood" from 1975, a series that forced us to have a reckoning with just how we've been reviewing and discussing the Robin Hood media we've encountered up until this point! We'll also get into a surprising amount of Blake's 7 discussion. Or perhaps not so surprising, if you're acquainted with the work of Paul Darrow...Following Wolf's Head, this is our second take on a grittier Robin Hood, but our first that presents us with a King Richard I who isn't unambiguously heroic. If you'd like to watch along, all six episodes can be found on YouTube:The Legend of Robin HoodTo read more about the sexual preferences of King Richard and how they have been interpreted, and politicized through the centuries: Rhodes, H. Tread Perilously begins its annual Doctor Who month with the New Series episode "The Girl In The Fireplace" When the TARDIS lands on a broken spaceship some time in the 51st Century, The Doctor, Rose, and Mickey soon discover it is opening time breaches to 18th Century France. Soon after, the Doctor learns the portals -- which cause years in the 18th Century to go by in moments on the ship -- are tied to one person in particular: Madame de Pompadour. Why are the ship's repair robots interested in her? But, perhaps more importantly, why is The Doctor interested in her? Meanwhile, Mickey harangues Rose about her obvious affection for The Doctor. Erik mentions a direct interview situation with Steven Moffat led to the episode selection. Justin likens it to a "short story" take on many of the writer's favorite tropes. He also suggests Erik dislikes David Tennant and the Tenth Doctor. Erik vehemently denies it. The cheapness of the production proves charming as it starts to look more like proper Doctor Who with each passing year. Justin tries out his Paul Darrow impression. Sophia Myles proves to be the episode MVP. Erik offers a surprise review of Assassin's Creed Unity, Mickey proves forgettable, and the Comte de Saint Germain strikes again.

This week we offer the powerful testimony of Paul Darrow, a victim of the Sexual Revolution whose transformed life has given hope to many entangled in same-sex attraction. Paul moved to Manhattan immediately after graduating college and became an international fashion model, a pleasure-seeker, and an atheist. His former hedonistic life, glamorous career, and ties to high society have provided him with invaluable insight into today’s alternative lifestyles. But Jesus changed his life forever. Shortly after converting to Catholicism, Paul was surprised to find himself being filmed as a subject for the award-winning movie Desire of the Everlasting Hills, which won the JP2 Film Festival Award. Paul's conversion story is so powerful that he was invited to speak at the Angelicum in Rome, where he pleaded with Cardinals and other clergy to defend and propagate the teachings of the Catholic Church on homosexuality. Paul has appeared on EWTN and is a frequent guest on talk radio from coast to coast. Whether giving presentations to high school and college students, priests, seminarians, penitentiary inmates or Catholic groups across the U.S. and in Europe, Paul shares his unusual testimony in order to be a living example that God’s grace is more powerful than even the greatest of human temptations. It is time to grab a cup of tea (Earl Grey Hot for the Trekkies), strap in and get ready for another episode from the Nerds we all look forward to each week. Also grab a slice of birthday cake and help us wish the DJ a Happy Birthday, yep our favourite funny guy is another year older. Now on with the show; that’s right, we once again have another fun packed episode in which we entertain you with some of the latest topics in Nerd pop culture news. This week we start off with news of an animated series coming from Netflix of Magic the Gathering. While details are limited at the moment it is something to look forward to. The boys have some interesting points to consider with this one, and the chief among them is based on who determines what is canon for stories. Also what is possibly the coolest car commercial at the moment?Next up we look at why brushing your teeth is more important than just to protect your teeth and good breathe. The implications for this are actually quite important, particularly if you want to remember where you hid your favourite comics and figurines. Once again Buck has found a research article that we should take a moment to look at that highlights some very interesting and disturbing facts. So, remember to brush, rinse and floss if you want to have the best health in the nursing home.Next up Professor brings us news that Tesla is now becoming a rolling game console. That’s right, Tesla cars are gaming consoles with the release of another game to play on the in car tablet style interactive screen. Unfortunately you are not able to play them while driving, um, oops, maybe that’s a good thing. We also hear about what some people have been doing with their Teslas that has been noticed by Elon, and trust us, this is not something we recommend. The games played this week show us that Buck truly is a grumpy old man, and that DJ is a fan of Clint Eastwood. But honestly tough, who isn’t a fan of Clit? What game is this, listen in or cheat and scroll down to the link. DJ has been playing Mortal Kombat 11 and still hasn’t exhibited any signs of PTSD, lots of other funny behaviour, but hey, that is normal. Professor has set fire to a house and read a book by the light. Then we have the shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events. Speaking of Birthdays, we wish to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DJ. He is OLD folks!!! As always, stay safe, take care of each other and stay hydrated, catch you all next time.EPISODE NOTES:Magic the Gathering the animated series - https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/magic-the-gathering-animated-series-netflix-russo-brothers-1203230595/#article-commentsThe wonders of brushing your teeth - https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/06/190603102549.htmCuphead now playable in Tesla - https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/06/02/cuphead-will-be-playable-in-tesla-model-3-model-s-and-model-x-cars?sf103564640=1Games currently playingBuck– Get of my lawn - https://store.steampowered.com/app/260410/Get_Off_My_Lawn/Professor- Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - https://cataclysmdda.org/DJ– MK 11 - https://store.playstation.com/en-au/product/EP1018-CUSA11379_00-00MORTALKOMBAT11Other topics discussedStar Wars making the expanded universe not canon- https://www.dailydot.com/parsec/star-wars-expanded-universe-not-canon/Star Wars novels releases by date- https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_novels_by_release_dateDungeons and Dragons (live action film series)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons_(film_series)Magic the Gathering Lore Trailers- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW-PCQJfXX0Dungeons & Dragons (1983 TV series)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons_(TV_series)Renault KWID Outsider featuring Dungeons & Dragons- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC9-bfsNne8&feature=youtu.beFull report on the wonders of brushing your teeth- https://advances.sciencemag.org/content/5/1/eaau3333Report: People who curse have better vocabularies- https://www.sciencealert.com/people-who-swearing-cursing-rude-words-better-vocabulary-scienceA couple shot a porn film in a Tesla- https://www.businessinsider.com/couple-shot-porno-in-moving-tesla-on-autopilot-2019-5/?r=AU&IR=TElon Mush smokes weed on the Joe Rogan Podcast- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VcCzKjXs-8&feature=youtu.beVictorian Police now has Tesla X police cars- https://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/motoring/on-the-road/victoria-police-add-shock-new-vehicle-to-its-fleet/news-story/d43c541e67e72d40f0dfb4a4579493e6Tomorrow Never Dies (1997 James Bond Film)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomorrow_Never_DiesTerminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003 movie)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_3:_Rise_of_the_MachinesBethesda Fallout 76 canvas bags saga 6 months later- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaPo5jgZbj0All things Apple in WWDC 19- https://www.cnet.com/news/wwdc-2019-everything-apple-announced-ios-13-dark-mode-mac-pro-macos-10-15-ipados/1989 Tiananmen Square protests- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Tiananmen_Square_protestsTrump and Macron honor D-Day veterans- https://www.cbsnews.com/live-news/d-day-anniversary-watch-live-stream-normandy-invasion-trump-macron-today-2019-06-06-live-updates/97-year-old jumps out of plane for D-Day- https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/ww2-parachute-tom-rice/index.htmlThat’s Not Canon Podcasts- General Queeries - https://thatsnotcanon.com/generalqueeriespodcast- Cosmic Moments - https://thatsnotcanon.com/cosmicmomentspodcastShoutouts3 Jun 2019 - iTunes, the jukebox software that revolutionized the music industry after its launch in 2001 is now shutting down. The Quadricycle had two driving speeds, no reverse, no brakes, rudimentary steering ability and a doorbell button as a horn, and it could reach about 20 miles per hour. Taking a turn away from the usual podKast format this week, we head back in time, not to 2005, but to 1985, and the much-maligned Colin Baker story Timelash. Over the past week, the Kasterborous team of Christian Cawley, Brian A Terranova and James McLean has watched Timelash (in varying degrees of completion) and they report back now, dear listener, for your interest and entertainment. Could it be that Glen McCoy’s script is, in fact, unfairly derided by fans, desperate to highlight a weak point of an already mixed run of episodes? For those of you who don't know, Timelash - this week's only recommendation - stars Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant as the Doctor and Peri, who find themselves on the planet Karfel were the population are terrorised by the sinister Borad. Guest starring Paul Darrow as the villainous Tekker and including a historical figure in the proceedings, the story has long been lambasted by fans.

Featuring an interview with Dennis Spielman and a discussion about the pitfalls of planning and producing a fan film. References for this week's podKast: The Ultimate Fan Film?
