Elaine and Mark from The Honeymoon Period podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Elaine's choice Heat. Heat (1995) is a heist drama written and directed by Michael Mann. Its ensemble cast features Al Pacino as Lieutenant Vincent Hanna, LAPD, Robert De Niro as Neil McCauley, Val Kilmer as Chris Shiherlis, Jon Voight as Nate, Tom Sizemore as Michael Cheritto, Diane Venora as Justine Hanna, Amy Brenneman as Eady, Ashley Judd as Charlene Shiherlis, Mykelti Williamson as Sergeant Bobby Drucker, Wes Studi as Lieutenant Sammy Casals, Ted Levine as Detective Mike Bosko, William Fichtner as Roger Van Zant, Natalie Portman as Lauren Gustafson, Tom Noonan as Kelso AND Hank Azaria as Alan Marciano. Neil McCauley leads a gang of elite criminals, but when a robbery of bearer bonds goes sour when one of the crew kills a guard he ends up in the path of Lieutenant Vincent Hanna, a hardened and obsessive detective. McCauley discovers Hanna on his tail but doesn't spook and agrees to one last heist. Heat is widely considered a masterpiece, the now iconic coffee scene marked the first time Pacino and De Niro shared the screen together and it is one of Christopher Nolan's favourite films. Recommendability scores reflected some of the criticisms (particularly around the role of women) but were still high. Lower scores for small screen reflected that it is one of those films best watched the big screen and gives an overall rating of 3.75. Mark and Elaine from The Honeymoon Period podcast join Flixwatcher to review Mark's choice Once. Once is a 2007 Irish romantic musical drama written and directed by John (Sing Street, Begin Again) Carney. It stars Glen Hansard as ‘guy' and Markéta Irglová (in her first acting role) as ‘girl', who ended up as a couple after working together and later performed together as the Swell Season. Guy is busking on the streets in Dublin when he meets girl, a Czech flower seller who is attracted to his music and asks him about his songs. They go for a coffee and he tells her that he is also a vacuum repair man. The next day she returns with her hoover and reveals she is also a musician. They visit a piano store and she plays the piano for him. Despite trying it on with a desperate offer of “hanky panky” their relationship blossoms and they secure a loan to record his songs professionally. Shot in a hand held style, on a budget of $150,000, Once was a surprise huge success and took $23.3 million at the box office and won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Original Song for ‘Falling Slowly'. Recommendabilty for Once was pretty solid, it is impossible to hate on this charming little film that doesn't go for the Hollywood ending. Remaining scores were very also strong, only slightly lower for repeat viewing, to give an overall rating of 3.96. On today's episode I am delighted to be joined by Elisa Nédélec, a PhD student at Nottingham Trent University who is investigating the potential impact of reproductive hormones on the incidence of non-contact ACL injuries in female athletes. Elisa completed her Masters in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Belgium and worked for eight years as a sports physiotherapist, specialised in orthopaedics, traumatology, and global postural rehabilitation. Her research interests include female physiology in sport and exercise, sport injury primary and secondary prevention, and the potential a pluri-disciplinary team has for ensuring a more equal practice of sports for girls and women'.Generally, injury risk is largely sport specific, but there are differences between males and females. Specifically, research indicates that women are up to 3-6 times more likely to sustain an ACL injury when compared to men. Therefore this episode is here to shine a light on female-specific injuries in sport and exercise as we discuss the risks and what to be aware of in terms of ACL injuries, including how the menstrual cycle and oral contraceptive use might affect injury risk and injuries before highlighting what we can potential do to minimise these risks as female athletes and those working with them.If you enjoyed listening to this episode, please leave a rating and review, and please share with your teammates, coaches, friends, and family!Resources: Elisa Nédélec: Twitter: @ElisaNedelec Additional resources: FAIR-ACL Project: Twitter: @fairaclproject | https://fairaclproject.isrg.org.uk/ Season 1 of the podcast is kindly sponsored by Umi Health.
