How Navy SEALs and Entrepreneurs Bend & Break the Rules for Results! Get a job at any business and the first thing you are told is the rules. "This is how we do things here." As we age we get even more rule oriented. Less dreaming, less risk taking, less creative thinking, and God forbid that you should challenge convention. The fact is we are a rules driven society. The fact is those that disagree with you, want to impose their rules on YOU, so you will do as they say and wish. And yes the military has a set of established rules, but one thing that may surprise you is when you are in "unconventional warfare" units, like the Navy SEALs you have to take a more unconventional, creative approach. And yes, even at times the rules of warfare are completely thrown out the window. How about you? Are you willing to "break" the rules of the game? How about "bend" the rules? Or maybe ignoring them altogether so you can achieve real results? In this new series from BEST Robotics, Masters of Disruption, we bring some of the greatest minds from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to hear their take on how students, and the future workforce are working together to drive innovation and learning environments.  Karl spoke to Michael Steiner, Marty Strong and Vinay Kunwar and they had an insightful conversation about this subject to start the series off.   Vinay, the CEO of India First joined the conversation from his office in India and he talked about the collaboration with his organization and BEST Robotics.   

Marty joined the United States Navy (USN) in 1975 and served 20 years as a Navy SEAL (Sea, Air and Land). Completing 10 years as an Enlisted SEAL, and then becoming an Officer for a further 10 years, reaching the rank of Lieutenant (LT). In this episode Marty talks about joining the U.S. Navy and being talked into becoming a Navy SEAL, after his orders got mixed up during Boot Camp. He gives some great information about the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training, and his time in SEAL Team 2. He talks about working with other Special Forces around the world, including the British Special Boat Service (SBS), all before becoming a BUD/S instructor himself. Marty also shares his mindset behind moving from his Enlisted position, and going through Officer Candidate School, to become an Officer in the SEAL teams. His time at SEAL Team 4 was a testament to his leadership abilities, which lead to him being assigned to the SEALs Strategy and Tactics Group, before transitioning out of the U.S. Navy.
