Rebroadcast of Rogue One CoverageAndor has come to an end, and after a month of recording within 24 hours of the episodes going live—and the recent baby shower for my soon-to-arrive new Padawan—we need a week off. In this episode, we're sharing details about our new release schedule and revisiting Rogue One with a rebroadcast of our in-depth coverage. Since Andor leads directly into Rogue One, it's the perfect time to revisit this pivotal film!In this rebroadcast episode of the Star Wars Generations podcast, hosts Matthew, Erin, and Alex dive deep into their analysis of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The hosts take a break from their Andor coverage to revisit this pivotal film that connects directly to the original Star Wars trilogy. Why Rogue One Stands Out in the Star Wars UniverseThe hosts discuss what makes Rogue One unique among Star Wars films. Erin describes it as her favorite Star Wars movie, praising how it grounds the franchise in realism and brings a more adult tone to the universe. The hosts appreciate how the film shows that not every "good guy" is truly good, creating moral complexity that was later expanded upon in Andor.Character Development and Moral ComplexityThe discussion focuses on Cassian Andor's character, noting how the film introduces him shooting his own ally to escape—an action that sets the tone for a morally complex story. This portrayal differs dramatically from traditional heroic characters in Star Wars. Jyn Erso's character development receives significant attention, with the hosts praising Felicity Jones' performance and how she portrays someone initially driven by selfish reasons who gradually buys into the rebellion's cause. The Film's Impact on Star Wars StorytellingMatthew highlights how important Rogue One was for expanding the Star Wars universe, demonstrating that compelling stories could be told without Force-using protagonists and focusing on characters who contribute to small battles rather than winning the entire war. This approach opened doors for projects like Andor, which the hosts consider among the best Star Wars content produced.Topics Discussed:How did the darker, grittier tone of Rogue One differentiate it from traditional Star Wars films? What made K-2SO one of the most memorable droid characters in the franchise? How does Orson Krennic embody the Empire's bureaucratic infighting and ambition? Why was Saw Gerrera's transition from animation to live-action significant? What continuity issues exist between Rogue One and A New Hope, and why don't they matter? How does the film's ending connect emotionally to the original Star Wars? Why is the Darth Vader hallway scene considered one of the most iconic moments in Star Wars? The episode concludes with all three hosts affirming Rogue One as one of their favorite Star Wars films, with Erin declaring she'll "preach about it till the day I die" and Alex suggesting it's the perfect film to recommend to people unsure about Star Wars or who think the franchise has been ruined. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Trailer Werdet Teil unserer Community und besucht unseren Discord-Server! aka - A long time to watch in a galaxy far, far away … Star Wars (1977) has a runtime of 121 minutes. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), considered by right minded people to be the best of the Star Wars prequels, has a runtime of 136 minutes. Andor the prequel, or perhaps prelude, to Rogue One clocks in at 1212 minutes, or just over 20 hours. This week, with three of four, three episode Andor arcs released the Regular Joe's devote even more time to examining how those minutes were spent. There's no disagreement that Andor has its moments of greatness. What is in dispute is, whether the great justifies the wait. As you might expect, opinions vary.   You may also like to know, the Regular Joes Podcast has received a Major Award (yes, thats a Christmas Story reference), we were named one of the top collecting podcasts on the web by Million Podcast, you can see the full list here -   There's also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box. Disney+ has told us that this is the final season of Andor and it makes sense as we are roughly 4 years out from the events of the Battle of Yavin. The Battle of Yavin refers to the events at the end of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. We also know that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a direct lead in to A New Hope. Ambitiously this series has been dropping 3 episodes at a time, set about a year apart each. Tonight we're looking at the first 9 eps we've gotten so far and there is a TON to unpack! Just when you think you couldn't hate The Empire anymore Andor promises and delivers all new depths of loathing for Imperial scum!

May the 4th be with you! In honor of Star Wars day, we dug into the vault and re-released our discussion with astrophysicist Dr. Jason Lisle about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This surprisingly fresh entry to the Star Wars universe led to some deep discussion on a range of topics: Is there ever a time when ‘lying' is justified in the eyes of God? Is it possible to deceptively work from within an evil group in order to dismantle it? Why is it so hard to create replicas of the human face that are convincing, when animals seem much less difficult? Will storytelling – and dare we say filmmaking – continue in the eternal state? What sort of Star Wars character would Dr. Lisle be? ...and much more! Watch the episode here. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and click the notification bell. Deep within the ruins of an ancient Sith temple, Kylo Ren stood with his unstable blade crackling, caught between admiration and resentment, as Darth Vader emerged, his presence suffocating, the air itself recoiling. Then Moff Gideon entered, while Asajj Ventress prowled the edges, twin sabres igniting, her gaze calculating. The Rogue Ones: A Star Wars Andor Podcast is back for season two, and so is series creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy. In the first episode of the revived podcast, host Mike DeAngelo and The Playlist's Editor-In-Chief Rodrigo Perez break down the first three episodes of Andor Season 2 — which hit Disney+ this week — before welcoming Gilroy to reflect on the final season's big themes, major tonal shift, and what it means to build a revolution brick by brick.Created by Tony Gilroy and starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, "Andor" is a prequel to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (which Gilroy co-wrote and famously helped reshape during reshoots). Set five years before the events of Rogue One, the show focuses on the origins of the Rebellion and how ordinary people — not just Jedi or Chosen Ones — stand up against oppression. Season two picks up a year later in the first three episodes and jumps one year ahead with each block of three afterwards, leading directly to the beginning of "Rogue One" by the end. "Andor" Season 2 is one of the most brilliant and best television shows of 2025. Closing out what began in Season One and adding a whole new layer of appreciation for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" while providing the best characters and story the franchise has ever seen, the new season has already garnered significant critical acclaim. One praised element of the first season was the score by Academy Award-nominee Nicholas Britell. For season 2, showrunner Tony Gilroy brought on Emmy Award-winner Brandon Roberts to continue the story of Cassian Andor through his music compositions for the show.

Kathleen Kennedy, who has led Lucasfilm for more than a decade, is expected to exit her role as president at the end of 2025, according to reports. The longtime industry executive, who helped guide the “Star Wars” franchise through a new era under Disney, plans to retire when her current contract expires. However, a source close to Kennedy has dismissed this as “pure speculation,” saying no official decision has been made.Kennedy took the helm of Lucasfilm in 2012, succeeding George Lucas after Disney acquired the company for $4 billion. Her tenure began with a surge of renewed interest in “Star Wars,” launching the sequel trilogy with 2015's The Force Awakens. The film grossed over $2 billion worldwide and remains the highest-grossing domestic release of all time. She also oversaw the critically acclaimed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and spearheaded the franchise's shift to streaming with hit Disney+ series such as The Mandalorian and Andor. However, not all of Kennedy's projects found success. The sequel trilogy suffered diminishing returns, with The Rise of Skywalker (2019) bringing in roughly half of The Force Awakens' earnings. Meanwhile, 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story became the first Star Wars film to lose money, casting doubts over the franchise's theatrical viability.Beyond Star Wars, Kennedy also led the revival of Indiana Jones, culminating in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023). The film, meant to be Harrison Ford's swan song as the character, struggled at the box office, losing an estimated $140 million.Since The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm has struggled to bring Star Wars back to theaters. Multiple announced projects, including films from Patty Jenkins (Rogue Squadron), Kevin Feige, and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, were shelved. The studio's next confirmed theatrical release, The Mandalorian & Grogu, is set for 2026, with a new trilogy reportedly in early development.Kennedy's potential departure marks a pivotal moment for Lucasfilm. Under her leadership, the studio expanded into new formats and reached new audiences, yet the franchise's direction remains uncertain. If she does step down, Disney will face a critical decision: who will shape the future of Star Wars and Lucasfilm beyond 2025?A Decade of Lucasfilm Under KennedyThe Future of Lucasfilm
