Welcome to Episode 22 of the Lovecars On the Grid Podcast where we have had a weekend of really good battles! Starting off with the World Rally Championship, that took place in Belgium this weekend. Paul Woodman and Tiff Needell discuss the win by Hyundai and Belgian duo Thierry Neuville with his co-driver Martijn Wydaeghe in the i20. The pair fought off their team mate, Craig Breen, who finished second with his co-driver, Paul Nagle. Toyota then came in with 3rd and 4th place. Moto GP was an amazing weekend, but started off with a bit of controversy! The Austrian GP started with a suspension for Yamaha rider, Maverick Vinales following him appearing to be fiddling with his bike in an effort to sabotage his race last weekend at the Styrian GP. We've never heard of a rider sabotaging his own bike! The race itself this weekend was spectacular, with a crash from Spanish rider Marc Márquez due to the poor weather in Belgium. South African rider, Brad Binder didn't switch for the wet weather bike and managed to hold on for the Win, despite on slick tyres and hardly any brakes! A home win for the KTM team. In the supporting races, Spanish rider Raul Fernandez took the win in Moto 2, whilst British rider, Sam Lowes started in pole but finished in 4th place. In Moto 3, Championship leader Pedro Acosta won another GP after a battle with Romano Fenati and Sergio García with lots of lead changes. Tiff will be there in a few weeks time for the British Moto GP at Valentino Rossi's last ever Moto GP event! In Formula E, the final race of the championship took place in Berlin this weekend, with wins from French driver Norman Nato for Venturi Racing, but the Championship was taken by ex-Formula 1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne, with the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team. An exciting race with several crashes and even cars that didn't start! Next race is in January 2022! Over in Scotland, at Knockhill there was great racing with BTCC. Paul thought it was hard in a Caterham, these BTCC cars were incredible! We saw an incredible battle between Colin Turkington and Honda driver, Senna Proctor. Turkington went on to also place 2nd in race two, whilst Proctor took 2nd in race 3. Tiff and Paul are big fans of Ash Sutton! The Superbikes were at Donington, with wins for Yamaha's Jason O'Halloran and Tarran Mackenzie, along with Ducati's Tommy Bridewell. In America, we had a tight qualifying in Indycar at Indianapolis, with an eventual win for Will Power after starting second, followed closely by former Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean. The race was shared with NASCAR at the track this weekend, with great entertainment in the Sunday race, ending with a few crashes in the chicane, with a battle ending with A. J. Allmendinger winning the race. Coming up next week, we've got more Indycar and NASCAR. British Superbikes are going to Cadwell Park, but of course, it's LE MANS, with more British drivers there than any other nationality!

So we go back to Misano for Round 2 of MotoGP's doubleheader in San Marino. Francisco Bagnaia leads pretty comfortably until 7 laps left, and then falls in shocking fashion, enabling Maverick Vinales to sweep up the crumbs and take his 1st win of the season, and the 5th different winner in the last 5 rounds. We break down a dramatic 2nd coming in Misano, as well as a heated fight between Pol Espargaro, the white hot Joan Mir and Fabio Quartararo, with the latter taking a time penalty that dropped him off the podium. We also talk Moto2 as rain played havoc with a couple of restarts needed before Enea Bastianini took another win there, as well as Moto3 as Romano Fenati made good on his previous career woes at Misano by winning!

Was für ein MotoGP-Wochenende in Spielberg! Auf der Strecke sind Andrea Dovizioso und Marc Marquez die großen Stars. Marquez stellt am Samstag mit seiner 59. Pole in der MotoGP einen neuen Bestwert für die Königsklasse auf. Am Sonntag liefert er sich dann mit Dovizioso ein unglaubliches Duell, das der Ducati-Pilot mit einem genialen Überholmanöver in der letzten Kurve für sich entscheidet. Der Red Bull Ring ist damit weiterhin die einzige MotoGP-Strecke, auf der Marquez noch nicht gewinnen konnte. Abseits der Strecke sorgen andere Fahrer für die großen Schlagzeilen. Einer von ihnen war in Spielberg gar nicht dabei. Gerüchte ranken sich um Jorge Lorenzo, der seinen Repsol-Honda-Vertrag für 2020 nicht erfüllen und zu Pramac Racing wechseln könnte, wo er Jack Miller verdrängen würde. Der wiederum dürfte auf einen Platz bei KTM hoffen, wo man sich im gegenseitigen Einvernehmen mit Ende 2019 von Johann Zarco trennt. Komplettes Chaos am Transfermarkt! In der Moto2 marschiert Alex Marquez weiter mit riesigen Schritten in Richtung WM-Titel. Brad Binder holt beim KTM-Heimrennen den ersten Saisonsieg für Orange, und dass nur wenige Stunden nachdem die Österreicher den Ausstieg aus der Moto2 mit Saisonende bekanntgeben. Zum Beispiel an Romano Fenati und seinen Ausraster im Moto2-Rennen von Misano, als er bei voller Fahrt seinem Kontrahenten Stefano Manzi an die Bremse griff. Dieser Skandal katapultierte Fenati binnen weniger Tage aus der Motorrad-WM, doch nun ist er wieder da! Zumindest wenn es nach den Plänen des Marinelli Snipers Teams geht, das Fenati 2019 in der Moto3 einsetzen will. Unsere Redakteure sagen dazu: WTF??? Fenati sorgte aber nicht für den einzigen Eklat 2018. Bereits im April leistete sich Marc Marquez beim MotoGP-Lauf in Argentinien einen skandalösen Rambo-Auftritt, bei dem er unter anderem Valentino Rossi abräumte. Dieser reagierte mit einer spektakulären Wutrede gegen Marquez und seinen Fahrstil. Der skandalöseste Grand Prix des Jahres fand aber in Silverstone statt. Skandalös deshalb, weil er eben gar nicht stattfand und die MotoGP zum ersten Mal seit 1980 wieder einen kompletten Rennsonntag ersatzlos streichen musste. Sie besprechen die Szene natürlich, fragen sich aber auch, ob die Sanktionen für einen Anfang 20-jährigen nicht am Ende vielleicht doch zu hart waren. Hätte man Fenati vielleicht nicht eine längere Sperre verbüßen lassen sollen mit der Chance auf Rehabilitation? Einer, der positive Schlagzeilen in der Moto2 schrieb, war Marcel Schrötter. Er belegte zum ersten Mal in seiner Karriere ein Podium und wurde nach starker Fahrt Dritter. Marquez mit dem "langen Arm" Marc Marquez hat zwar das Rennen der MotoGP-Klasse in Misano nicht gewonnen, aber Siege sind in dieser Phase der Saison wohl nur noch zweitrangig für den Spanier. Er belegt konstant Podiumsplätze und sorgt dafür, dass seine Konkurrenten ihm nicht näher kommen. Auch über Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso und Valentino Rossi sprechen Ruben, Gerald und Andreas. Am Schluss gibt es noch einen Blick auf die Moto3, die mit einem Massensturz am Anfang des Rennens klarkommen musste, der dem Verlauf der WM aber keinen Spannungsabbruch geben wird.

Off-track action overshadowed what turned out to be some average races this weekend at Misano. Marquez tried to shake Rossi's hand. Romano Fenati went WAY TOO FAR and is now completely ousted from the paddock. And Dani Pedrosa might be signing to test ride for KTM. But wait, there was actually a race too. Yama-who showed us once again that they don't have a handle on the tires, electronics, or anything needed to win in GP anymore. Jorge made a somewhat rare mistake. And Dovi rode a nail-bitingly perfect race.We finish this one off with some interesting listener questions, including a few that have nothing to do with MotoGP.

Die MotoGP feiert in Misano traditionell eines ihrer schönsten Feste. Diesmal wurde viele Fans die Feierlaune aber ordentlich vermiest, denn Romano Fenati sorgte für einen schockierenden Eklat. Im Rennen der Moto2 zog er nach mehreren Scharmützeln mit Stefano Manzi plötzlich die Vorderradbremse seines Konkurrenten - mitten auf der Geraden bei mehr als 200 km/h! Romano Fenati kassierte dafür sofort die Schwarze Flagge. Wenige Stunden später wurde das Vergehen mit einer Sperre von zwei Rennen geahndet und der Aufschrei im MotoGP-Paddock war groß. Denn für einige Fahrer und viele Fans ging diese Strafe nicht weit genug. So hatten etwa Cal Crutchlow und Pol Espargaro gefordert, Fenati nie wieder ein Rennen in der Motorrad-WM fahren zu lassen. The brighter side of Bike Racing was on full display this weekend as Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso went to war in a wet Moetgi as Dovi came out on top yet again! We also saw Alex Marquez conquer the wet again, and Romano Fenati keep his slim Moto3 title hopes alive with another dominant display!
