In this week's episode, host Kevin Rothrock sits down with RFE/RL senior international correspondent Mike Eckel to discuss his January 28 investigation into the bizarre case of Nomma Zarubina: The FSB, Lies, and Drunk Texting the FBI. A 35-year-old Russian woman and mother of a young daughter, Zarubina was jailed in Manhattan this past December — not for traditional espionage or even “espionage-lite,” but after a spiral of erratic behavior that included lying to the FBI about her contacts with Russia's FSB and harassing a federal agent with drunken, late-night text messages. In a conversation that explores the blurry legal line between cultural promotion and foreign-agent activity, Eckel unpacks how Zarubina fits into a wider “parade of fools” — a recent trend of Russian figures like Maria Butina and Elena Branson who secretly networked at the Russian state's behest. The discussion also highlights the personal unraveling of Zarubina, whose meltdown and subsequent taunting of the FBI (“Catch me baby, so many spies”) offer a grim look at the human cost of Russia's fringe intelligence operations. A Russian spy? Secret kompromat? The latest Epstein file drop, the most comprehensive since the notorious sex offender's death, has us questioning everything. But one thing is clear. New files alleging shared information between the former UK ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson and Jeffrey Epstein could be a scandal big enough to sink Prime Minister Keir Starmer.Geraldine Doogue and Hamish Macdonald speak to The News Agents' Jon Sopel about spiralling headfirst into the Epstein conspiracy, the new allegations against Bill Gates, and what the Kremlin has to do with Epstein island.Guest: Jon Sopel, former BBC News North America editor.Get in touch:We'd love to hear from you! In the wake of civil allegations that Leon Black engaged in sexual misconduct with a former Russian model, Guzel Ganieva, Black responded strongly to the claims, which she initially publicized on social media and later formalized in a lawsuit alleging harassment and abuse during their relationship. Black publicly denied any wrongdoing, stating the relationship was consensual, and characterized Ganieva's accusations as part of an extortion attempt to extract money and damage his reputation. He and his legal team filed counter-pleadings and defamation actions, asserting that the claims were baseless and suggesting that Ganieva was acting with ulterior motives, though they did not specifically label her a “Russian spy.”A New York judge later dismissed Ganieva's lawsuit on procedural grounds because of a nondisclosure agreement she had signed with Black, and Black has continued to deny all allegations of abuse. The broader legal and public dispute has intertwined with scrutiny of Black's past association with Jeffrey Epstein, but there is no credible reporting that Black formally accused his accuser of being a Russian spy; such characterizations have appeared only in speculative or fringe commentary rather than in verified court filings or mainstream news coverage.to contact me:bobbyapucci@protomail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

In our final Espresso Martini of the year, Chris and Matt reflect on the DC National Guard shooting, the alleged Afghan CIA-linked gunman, and what the case says about how America treats its wartime partners once the war ends. They then turn to Trump's latest “final” Ukraine peace offer and growing frustration in Europe as Moscow drags the war out on its own terms. The focus shifts to Venezuela, where Russian advisors, new air defenses, cartel politics, and U.S. forces raise the risk of conflict—and to post-Assad Syria, where ISIS is quietly regrouping amid a tenuous recovery. Finally, listener questions bring them to Pete Hegseth's alleged no-quarter order, Tom Nichols's case for accountability, and the long, dark tradition of animal spies—and some reflections on ten years of Secrets & Spies and where the show goes next. Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this episode of The Wright Report, Bryan exposes a billion-dollar Somali fraud ring in Minnesota, breaks down Washington's new terror finance investigation, and explains how decades of immigration, politics, and cultural denial allowed the scheme to flourish. He then turns to global flashpoints involving Venezuela, Ukraine, deep-sea espionage, and a major warning from the CIA to Britain about Chinese infiltration. Minnesota Meltdown and Somali Fraud Network: A sweeping federal and state investigation has uncovered more than one billion dollars in fraud committed by Somali-run nonprofits in Minnesota. Money meant for disabled children, addicts, and food assistance was instead funneled into luxury lifestyles and sent to al-Shabaab in Somalia. State officials knew years ago that the organizations were bogus, yet Democrat leaders like Governor Tim Walz expanded funding and backed off oversight after Somali activists accused them of racism. Bryan cites the New York Times report confirming the scale of the crime and the cultural norms behind it. Treasury Department Opens Terror Finance Probe: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has launched a new national security investigation into Minnesota's Somali crime rings after evidence showed U.S. taxpayer cash was being carried in suitcases to Mogadishu to fund Islamist clan conflicts. Bryan notes that virtually all offenders are naturalized or U.S.-born citizens, which means deportation will require de-naturalization rather than standard immigration enforcement. Judges and Police Under Pressure: Minnesota's political climate has made honest policing and prosecution nearly impossible. The Minneapolis police chief apologized after acknowledging Somali youth crime, and a local judge overturned a jury verdict in a seven-million-dollar Medicaid fraud case despite overwhelming evidence. Bryan argues that political fear of offending a key voting bloc has paralyzed the state's justice system. Venezuela Double Tap Controversy: New reporting confirms that eleven cartel boat operators were killed during a U.S. strike in early September, including a possible second strike that hit wounded survivors. The White House says the second hit was ordered lawfully by SOCOM's Admiral Mitch Bradley, not by President Trump or Secretary Pete Hegseth. Democrats insist it is a war crime, and Republicans say they will investigate. Ukraine Turmoil and Russian Advances: Zelenskyy's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, resigned after corruption raids, deepening Ukraine's internal crisis. Russia captured the key city of Pokrovsk and is now striking deeper into Ukraine's interior. Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff meets Vladimir Putin today for a high-stakes round of peace talks. Russian Spy Network Under the Arctic: French and British media uncovered a fifteen-year Russian operation called Harmony that built an underwater surveillance web of cables and sensors in the Barents Sea. The network tracks NATO and U.S. submarines near Russia's nuclear bases. The CIA and European services have been secretly countering the effort for years. CIA Warns Britain Over Chinese Water Takeover: The CIA and senior Trump officials privately urged British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to block a Chinese purchase of Thames Water, the utility that supplies London. U.S. intelligence warns that Chinese ownership could jeopardize American troops in Britain and give Beijing control over critical UK infrastructure. "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32 Keywords: Minnesota Somali fraud one billion dollars, Feeding Our Future scandal, Tim Walz political pressure, Scott Bessent terror finance probe, Somali de-naturalization debate, Venezuela cartel boat double tap, SOCOM Admiral Mitch Bradley decision, Zelenskyy Yermak corruption resignation, Pokrovsk Russian advance, Operation Harmony Barents Sea, CIA warns UK Thames Water China

HEADLINE: Russian Spy Ships Target Vulnerable Undersea Communication Cables GUEST NAME: Kevin Frazier50 WORD SUMMARY: Undersea cables are highly vulnerable to sabotage or accidental breaks. Russia uses sophisticated naval technology, including the spy ship Yantar, to map and potentially break these cables in sensitive locations. The US is less vulnerable due to redundancy. However, protection is fragmented, relying on private owners who often lack incentives to adopt sophisticated defense techniques. 1945 RED SQUARE

SummaryIn this discussion, Nick Cohen and former diplomat Arthur Snell explore the complex relationship between Donald Trump and Russia, examining evidence suggesting Trump may be serving Russian interests either knowingly or unwittingly. They analyze Christopher Steele's controversial intelligence work on Trump-Russia connections, noting that despite criticism, many of his key allegations have proven accurate according to subsequent investigations, including the Senate Intelligence Committee report. The conversation concludes by addressing concerns about Trump's deferential behaviour toward Putin, his appointment of pro-Russian officials to intelligence positions, and the implications for US-UK intelligence sharing should Trump return to power. In this discussion, Nick Cohen and former diplomat Arthur Snell explore the complex relationship between Donald Trump and Russia, examining evidence suggesting Trump may be serving Russian interests either knowingly or unwittingly. In the early 2000s, the CIA gave the FBI a huge tip: A team of Russian operatives had been living double lives in the United States. They were posing as professors, journalists, financial planners, real estate and travel agents, all while sending information back to Moscow. Now, 15 years after they were arrested, Alan Kohler, the former Assistant Director of the FBI's Counterintelligence Division, tells us what it was like to supervise the case which came to be known as Operation Ghost Stories.
