Our Study in the Book of Romans continues with Ch. 10, verses 14-21. The preceding verses are some of the most well-known among Christians. Many of us were guided to faith by someone who quoted at least verses 9-10. But this passage has a broader context. Paul has been explaining the roll of Israel, the Jews, in God's grand design. Here's a spoiler for you. He's not done yet. Over the next few lessons, we'll explain in greater detail what that means.
Brad welcomes Kevin Thacker to the NOFA Podcast microphone for his first full conversation as co-host. In this episode, Kevin shares the path that led him into the behavioral health and recovery field, the experiences that shaped his passion for helping others, and why he has chosen to dedicate his work to supporting individuals navigating trauma, mental health challenges, and addiction recovery. The conversation explores Kevin's background working alongside treatment programs and first responder communities, and how those experiences influence the perspective he brings to the show. Together, Brad and Kevin talk about the importance of connection, the role of peer support, and the reality that many high-performing professionals — especially in public safety careers — often struggle silently while appearing outwardly strong. They also discuss how recovery is not a single event but an ongoing process that involves identity, purpose, relationships, and learning how to move forward after difficult experiences. Listeners will hear why honest conversations matter, why stigma keeps people isolated, and why simply knowing someone understands can change everything. This episode offers a chance to get to know Kevin and what he hopes to contribute to the podcast moving forward — practical insight, open dialogue, and conversations that meet people where they actually are rather than where they think they should be.Topics discussed include:• First responder mental health • Trauma and stress exposure in high-responsibility careers • Addiction recovery and rebuilding life after crisis • Peer support and connection • Breaking stigma around seeking help • Finding purpose after hardshipWhether you work in law enforcement, fire service, EMS, corrections, healthcare, military service, or any demanding profession, this conversation is a reminder that strength and struggle can exist at the same time — and that support is available.About the No One Fights Alone PodcastThe No One Fights Alone (NOFA) Podcast is dedicated to honest conversations surrounding mental health, trauma, recovery, and resilience — especially within first responder and high-stress professional communities. In this episode of The Steward Chair, Maria Thacker Goethe, President and CEO of Georgia Life Sciences, shares her journey of transitioning from a dedicated "number two" to leading a massive ecosystem through a global pandemic. We explore how a commitment to mission and the guidance of mentors drives meaningful, long-term success even when the original plan is upended. We discuss the critical role of a connector in the life sciences sector, the importance of "work-life harmony" over balance, and why true stewardship means preparing the next generation to lead. This conversation provides actionable takeaways for leaders committed to stewardship, integrity, and impact. Key Takeaways Purpose Over Tactics: In times of crisis, your "North Star" must be your organizational purpose, allowing your tactics to remain nimble and adaptive. The Responsibility of Mentorship: Leadership is a societal responsibility; investing time in the next generation is essential because no leader is "here forever". Now we come to the heart of the matter. In the midst of Paul's explanation of the Jews' role in and rejection of the good news of Jesus the messiah comes the text which is probably most familiar to the Christian except for John 3:16. Many if not most of us had it read or quoted as we made our own journey to faith. But did we get the whole message? Though it is simple enough for a child to understand and receive, too often important parts get left out. Listen in as we continue our study with Romans 10:5-13.
Our study continues with Romans 10:1-4. Paul says of his people who have not believed, "they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge." And, "not knowing about the righteousness of God and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God." vs 2-3. They didn't understand that they could never work their way into being right with God. Only Jesus makes that possible. Today, we think we know better, but we can still fall into the trap of thinking that it's all about how well we can follow the rules. We judge others who we don't think are doing it as well as we are, or interpret the rules differently than we do. The truth is that none of us can do it without Jesus.

Righteousness is a word we don't hear much outside of the church. What is it? How does one attain to it? You may have heard it defined as right-standing with God. Since God Himself is called righteous, this definition seems incomplete. However, it serves us well in regard to man's relationship to Him. Jesus, while being no less God for having done so, took on flesh and lived among us as a man. Being without sin, walking in perfect obedience to the Father, He can certainly be called righteous by this definition. Thus, even if we limit ourselves to this meaning, we may say that God is righteous. Our study of Romans continues this week with Chapter 9, verses 30-33. Here, Paul contrasts the Gentiles with the people of Israel. How is it that Israel, having the law of God and keeping it so meticulously, has missed the goal, yet heathens who weren't even trying have attained it? Paul gives us the answer with the question. It is because of faith. More specifically, faith in the all-sufficient work of Jesus. The road to righteousness is walked by faith, and the destination is reached only because the righteous One walks with us.
Adrian was back for his last episode on the Check Your Six podcast and giving some insight into the why behind his business, Proficiency Background Service. Community is a huge part of Adrian's why, partially from his upbringing and The Affinity Program that he initiated at the Seminole Chamber, with the help of Rebecca Arthur, is juste one proof of that. They providing support from a financial and or services standpoint for non-profits from the proceeds of their screening services. He talked about his time with Leadership Orlando and the information that is provided in so many areas that we are just not aware of. His time with Up Orlando and his chance to give back to help in what they are doing, our connection with Sean Esler and what he does in the community, just so many reason to love what this man does and how he gives back. "It's not fair!" I doubt you can find a child anywhere who hasn't made that accusation. They might even be right once in a while, because sometimes we're not, and we make mistakes. Many a grownup has replied, "Life's not fair." It becomes a very different conversation when one of the participants is God. Dare we accuse Him of injustice? We all know the right answer to that question, but I think it is safe to say that most of us have wrestled with it. He is the creator. We are the created. From where did we get this offended sense of fairness? As we have progressed through Paul's letter to the believers in Rome, we have been shown the grace and love of god for us, though we do not deserve it. He has now turned his attention to the people of Israel, who have largely rejected their promised messiah. He has shown how from the beginning God chose whom he would favor, and whom he would harden for His purposes. He takes the obvious question head-on. How can God judge if He has made us what we are and we can do only as He wills? The stark answer, "Who are you to ask?" This does not take away from the other things we know about God. He defines good. He defines truth. He defines love. His promises remain, and if we choose Him, we need not fear whether we are among those not chosen. But here we are reminded that He is God, and we are not. This week we cover Romans 9:19-29.
The 3rd in a short series with Adrian Thacker with Proficiency Background Services brought him back in to GRP Studios to talk about the levels of background checks that they complete. What a Level 1, Level 2 checks and beyond consist of and how certain industries use those types of checks. Talked about the Healthcare industry either in the facilities themselves or in the schools/training centers that may require different checks at different times for compliance. Clear to Care is one of the background check services that allow for longer times between background checks as opposed to nearly yearly check being done. Also talked about the trucking industry and some of the challenges with the current news of drivers that are not even citizens and are not being subject to those checks, We also talked about some of here industries that they are not in, including what we do as part of the film or broadcast media as well as the banking industry which has it own set of compliance for banking as well as the securities and exchange industry. In 2024 a story appeared in the Toronto Star by Deborah Dundas that set the world of biography on fire. At the centre of it was Alice Munro’s biographer Robert Thacker, who has devoted thirty years of his life as an academic to a close archival study of Alice Munro’s work. It was revealed that Thacker had known for two decades that Alice’s daughter Andrea had been sexually molested by her stepfather Gerald Fremlin. When Andrea approached Thacker to ask him to make revisions to the manuscript of his book, in the light of this information, it was just at the point when the manuscript was complete and about to be printed, and he declined. He declined again when a revised edition of the book appeared several years later. He has always maintained that as an archival scholar, he had no interest in personal family dynamics and in the psychological aspects of Alice’s oeuvre. Gerald Fremlin pled guilt to a charge of indecent assault and served a suspended sentence with two years probation. Alice Munro chose to remain with Fremlin rather than support her daughter. In this episode Caroline Baum talks to Robert Thacker and explores the uncomfortable moral terrain of a biographer when presented with explosive material that they feel is beyond the scope of their particular focus and asks where does the biographer’s responsibility lies. To read an in-depth account of Andrea Skinner’s experience and its repercussions for her, for Alice Munro and for Munro’s reading public, go to the excellent piece by New Yorker writer Rachel Aviv: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/12/30/alice-munros-passive-voice There is also an essay by Anne Enright in her latest anthology Attention, on the Munro affair.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Part II of Adrian Thacker and Proficiency Backgrounds is on the schedule today, a little late in the drop zone because of the schedule for GRP Studios, but it is finally up and running. Adrian talked a little bit deeper on what they do, moving from just a screening/background checks to a whole back end support for businesses to make sure they are only paying for what they need and being totally compliant in whatever industry they operate in. We talked about how some companies only care about the money they are making and not the impact they are making on the community and how Proficiency Backgrounds can perhaps change that narrative. Also the impact of AI was discussed and how cost "savings" with AI are not always being seen by the consumer as well as the loss of customer service and a disconnect with the community that the business serves!! Chromium, the quiet cofactor that helps your body process carbs, fats, and proteins more efficiently. Speaking of Women's Health Podcast Host Dr. Holly L. Thacker explains why “food first” beats a crowded supplement shelf, and how easy wins—broccoli, green beans, quinoa, lean proteins, dairy, and even stainless steel cookware—can boost chromium naturally.Dr. Thacker shares how much chromium we need daily, highlights who might be at risk for deficiency, and explains why more isn't better with trace minerals.Support the show
We continue our progress through the book of Romans in Chapter 9, verses 14-18. Paul continues his explanation of how God worked in history to bring about His purpose through the Jewish people. He takes head on the questions we might be asking. God seems to be playing favorites in a completely arbitrary manner. How is this right? The answer is simply that He is God and He does as He pleases. As we study passages like this one, it is helpful to remember the other things we know about God. As the creator of everything that is, he defines what is good and what is just. He cannot lie, so we know that He will keep His word. Theologians will argue over free will until He returns and sets us all straight, but all we need to know is that "if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)
In this episode of the Psyche Podcast, I bring together philosopher Eugene Thacker's In the Dust of This Planet and Junji Ito's Uzumaki to explore a deeper, colder form of horror—one that isn't psychological, symbolic, or easily explained.Thacker writes about the “world-without-us”: a reality that exists beyond human meaning, care, or control. In Uzumaki, that idea takes shape as a spiral—an impersonal force that reshapes bodies, infects a town, and quietly dismantles the assumption that the world is organized around us.This is an episode about cosmic horror, dread, and the unsettling beauty of patterns that exceed human understanding. We explore why Uzumaki feels so disturbing, how horror can function as a form of philosophy, and what it means to encounter a world that doesn't offer reassurance or redemption. If you're interested in philosophical horror, cosmic pessimism, or stories that linger long after they end, this conversation is an invitation to sit with discomfort—and listen closely to what it reveals.
(Shoshoni, WY)- In this episode of the County 10 Podcast, we sit down with Shoshoni alum and songwriter/producer Keegan Thacker, who shares a passion-driven conversation about music, creativity, education, and giving back to the next generation. In this episode we find out about a fun event happening December 11th. The heart of this conversation is Sound Lab, a hands-on music program that Keegan co-created within Shoshoni schools. The goal is simple but transformative:to give students access to musical exploration…whether through instruments, composing, performing, or producing. They also aim to provide a creative outlet many rural students don't often get. On December 11th, the Sound Lab program will host a special concert featuring professional musicians as well as student performers who have been developing their skills through the program. This event serves not only as a community celebration of young talent, but also as a fundraiser to help expand the program by purchasing instruments, equipment, and materials. Another special part of this event is the partnership with the Shoshoni High School Boys Wrestling Team, who will be preparing the dinner served at the concert. A portion of the evening's admission proceeds will also go toward supporting the wrestling team! Details in the poster below. h/t Keegan Thacker
In this episode, I explore how philosopher Eugene Thacker's ideas about pessimism, horror, and “the world-without-us” unexpectedly illuminate the heart of existential therapy. Thacker argues that moments of dread, uncertainty, and limit-experience reveal the limits of human control and understanding—and these moments show up in the therapy room all the time.I talk about how existential therapy helps us sit with the mystery instead of running from it, and how confronting the unthinkable can actually open the door to clarity, growth, and deeper self-understanding. From anxiety and identity shifts to grief, burnout, and meaning crises, we look at how therapy becomes a place to face life's vastness without collapsing into fear.If you're curious about the intersection of philosophy, horror, and the therapeutic journey—especially with teens, neurodivergent clients, and adults navigating major transitions—this episode offers a grounded, accessible reflection on how we can live meaningfully in an uncertain world.
Episode 167 of the Check Your Six podcast brought a great guest back into GRP Studios, Adrian Thacker of Proficiency Background Services. This is Part 1 of 4 where we start start to build on creating a podcast for Adrian about his industry. It has been a little over 4 years since he was in the first time and things have changed quite a bit for him, his business and the industry. We talked about why he decided to move into the arena and not the engineering that he loved, but an experience that he had in an employment process really changed the course of his life. He determined that what he went through is a struggle that more people that we realize face and especially those from lower income backgrounds, may not have the ability to fight. I thoroughly enjoyed having Adrian in the studio for these sessions and I can't wait to hear what he has coming in 2026. You can find out more about him on his website, https://proficiencybackground.com/, this isn't your daddy's old style background checks, this is cutting edge. Email us at tim@grpstudios.com

Dr. Thacker reveals that women metabolize alcohol more slowly and experience more concentrated effects due to naturally lower body water content. She shares concerning observations from her own medical practice, where she's seen women develop liver and heart damage from what many would consider "moderate" drinking—just one drink per day over many years.Particularly alarming are the potential interactions between alcohol and medications. With over 150 medicines known to interact dangerously with alcohol—from common pain relievers to prescription medications—understanding these risks becomes crucial, especially for older adults who typically take multiple medications daily. For pregnant or breastfeeding women, Dr. Thacker doesn't mince words: there is no safe amount of alcohol. She shares a personal experience of how quickly even a small sip of champagne transferred to her breast milk and affected her nursing infant.Whether you're concerned about your own relationship with alcohol or worried about a loved one, this episode provides valuable insights into recognizing problematic drinking patterns, understanding treatment options, and accessing resources for help. Dr. Thacker emphasizes that alcoholism is a disease that can be treated effectively, though it requires honesty and appropriate support.Subscribe to the Speaking of Women's Health podcast for more essential health information that empowers you to be strong, be healthy, and be in charge of your wellbeing. For referral to drug and alcohol treatment programs in your area, call:Assessment Center Drug and Alcohol Abuse Hotline1.800.234.0420National Alcohol and Drug Help Line1.800.821.HELP (4357)Support the show

Thacker has developed a proprietary design for distillation vessels that are more efficient than older technologies. These new systems use insulated tubs and lower pressure steam to reduce thermal degradation and energy use. The modern method cuts cook times significantly compared to the older "yellow tubs" and allows for more effective steam utilization. The distillation process involves filling 40-foot trailers with the crop, running steam through it, and eventually using the leftover material as organic matter to enrich the soil.
Dale Thacker, a distillation expert, has been cultivating exotic crops such as peppermint, spearmint, and dill in Alberta for over 40 years. The mint industry in the area began in the late 1980s, followed by dill cultivation for essential oils used in the pickle industry. Thacker has also experimented with other crops like basils and tarragon but has focused primarily on mint and dill. The harvesting process involves drying the crops, chopping them, and using distillation techniques to extract oils, which are sold to companies like Colgate.

“Giving back has always been in our DNA,” says Wendy Thacker of ScanSource, reflecting on the company's growing commitment to community engagement. In an interview with Doug Green, Publisher of Technology Reseller News, at ScanSource Partner First, Thacker shared how ScanSource is scaling its Impact 360 program, originally launched in Greenville, South Carolina, to new communities across the U.S., including South Haven, Mississippi, Dallas, Texas, Sacramento, California, and Tempe, Arizona. The initiative takes a 360-degree approach to student and family support, addressing education, food and clothing insecurity, physical and mental health, and enrichment experiences. Through hands-on engagement, more than 150 partners, employees, and family members have already participated in activities ranging from fall festivals and classroom takeovers to healthy eating demos. A highlight of this year's program was the involvement of Thomas Kearns Elementary School students, who designed and painted footballs that will be showcased at Dallas Cowboys Stadium. The winning design, selected through a social media contest, will earn the entire class an ice cream sundae party. ScanSource's efforts are supported by the ScanSource Charitable Foundation, which has contributed over $22 million to communities since its inception. To help others replicate this success, the company created a community playbook that provides project plans, budgets, and best practices for building impactful local programs. Thacker emphasized that ScanSource partners, suppliers, and employees all play a critical role: “Helping create impact for others in the communities where they work and live is very important to us because they're part of our extended family.” For more details on ScanSource's charitable work and to download the community playbook, visit scansource.com.
