In honor of Mother's Day, today the hosts are taking a bit of turn and chatting about some of the things we don't like about motherhood. We delve into the challenging aspects of motherhood that are sometimes not discussed openly due to fear of judgment or mom-shaming. The hosts share their personal experiences with the emotional and physical demands of motherhood, highlighting the duality of joy and struggle that defines their everyday lives. The conversation turns to the common issue of mother's neglecting their own health and well-being as they prioritize their families' needs over their own. Women feel obligated to be caretakers, which means we put others' needs before our own. As moms it can feel awkward or selfish to shift the balance from taking care of everyone else to taking care of ourselves. 00:22 WELCOME BACK 10:32 AUDIENCE QUESTIONS 17:40 “THINGS WE DON'T LIKE IN MOTHERHOOD” 28:36 “WHAT MOMS DON'T DO FOR THEMSELVES” 36:05 PITS AND PEAKS This episode is sponsored by Yale New Haven Health, offering a truly comprehensive approach to healthcare aimed at meeting the needs of local families. She was previously Associate Treasurer and Director of Investments at Yale New Haven Health where she headed a 5 person investment team, and prior to that had a range of roles in investment consulting and other financial roles. Our conversation traces her early college years, which saw her consider a health care career, and then pivot to finance. It also took on a lot of global opportunities – taking her to London and ultimately back to the US to a healthcare system. We discuss the challenge of running money in a healthcare system and the focus on risk there, and compare it to the role of CIO at a college endowment.  Moving then to Geeta's role at Fordham we discuss the challenges and issues that are at the forefront of her mind today. We discuss stakeholders, and their evolving demands and how she is channeling the mission of the university and expressing it through the investment portfolio. Geeta gives many specific examples as to how Fordham is in tune with its status as a bastion of learning, such as the investment fund that undergraduate students run and the angel investing fund that is run by graduate students. Other viewpoints are reflected too - around company engagement and divestment from certain areas, and we discuss this in various ways. Given Geeta's long career in finance we end on the topic of diversity and the dynamic of working in a largely female leadership team. We look at where progress is to be cheered, and where it has stalled, and think about the different ways that this movement can ben enabled. Hi everybody. Are you a start-up business looking to raise funds? Or maybe you're looking to work with-- or for-- such a business? Then again, maybe you're just looking to invest a small sum of money in a start-up? If so, then you'll enjoy listening to this episode of Looking Forward. On it, you'll hear what my guest expert, Kat Kuzmeskas, says about a relatively new way to do any of the things I just mentioned. It's called Regulation Crowd Funding, or "Reg CF" for short.Among other things, Kat will talk about (1) crowdfunding, and how it's being used to raise funds for a whole variety of individuals, nonprofits, and businesses, (2) Reg CF, the relatively recent, crowdfunding-related regulations in the United States, which allow startup businesses to raise funds from "regular" investors, not necessarily high net-worth individuals, and (3) the opportunities that Reg CF offers not only to businesses, but to small investors all over the globe who want to participate in a startup's potential growth... and possibly gain an equity share down the road. Kat will also speak about the job and freelancing opportunities that these Reg CF startups offer, and in true Looking Forward fashion, she'll offer some tips on how to capitalize on some of the opportunities she mentions. Now a little more about Kat: Kat Kuzmeskas is the President of Tamarin and Shyro, two health care companies. She has dedicated her entrepreneurial career to making data more accessible in healthcare, especially for patients. As a former hospital administrator at Yale New Haven Health, she was shocked to learn that it was easier to buy healthcare data than it was for patients and providers to access data for care. So, she wanted to tackle this issue.
