I realized something recently. There is one thing that has never been in short supply in our lifetimes. Statistics. Trends. Patterns. Throughout our career and lives, we continuously bombarded with these. X% of people were laid off during the pandemic. Y% of people are quitting their jobs in the Great Resignation. Women make Z% of what men make. Let me ask you... What do you do with these? Do you pay attention to them? Ignore them completely? Talk about them incessantly? Make career moves based on them? Justify your decisions to yourself based on them? As the 1% of talent, what do these statistics mean for your career? Listen now as I share with you how I have used these throughout my career to achieve my goals faster than anyone else thought possible! In this episode, Why You Felt Nothing After Your Last Promotion? Recently I was speaking to a new VP at a Fortune 100 company. When I met her, she had been Sr Director for about a year. We made the VP role happen in 6 months. Once the deal was done, I asked her how she felt. She admitted, “I don't know, Stella. I mean…I guess I'm happy. But I thought I would feel more. I don't really… I feel like I should be more excited than I actually am.” Have you ever felt this way? Worked really hard to get promoted or land a new role and then felt… Nothing? You may have - Worked 13 hour days - Pulled countless all nighters to complete projects and presentations. - Sacrificed taking full vacations - Rearranged family plans to accommodate work expectations - Hopped on several planes with little notice to solve problems You may then think to yourself… - If this is what it took me to get to this level of Sr. Manager or Director … - Can I really do 2X to get to the next level? - Do I even still have that much drive left in me? - Can I do 2X the the long hours? 2X the stress and overwhelm? In this session, we discuss How To Decide When It Is Time To Move On Deciding whether to stay at a company or leave can be one of the toughest career decisions we make. If logging into work makes you cry or feel sick, then you already know what you need to do. Because to do the things you really want to do, more money is required. Sure you could stay here and see if you could ""meets expectations and 3% bonus"" your way to the top. In this session, we discuss How To Incorporate More Calculated Risk In Your Career. When was the last time you took a risk in your corporate career? I can tell you categorically that risk taking is absolutely necessary if you want to catapult your career exponentially. As I evaluate my corporate career and the careers of our clients, significant increases impact, income and scope have come when we took a chance with no guarantees. In this session, we discuss What Phase of Your Career Are You Anchored In? Recently, I was speaking with a client who had just recently experienced some big wins in our program. She had gone from mid 100K to $225K in 4 months and landed a role from seasoned Sr Manager to VP. After a few months in her new role, we scheduled a chat to catch up. In the course of our conversation, she shared a story with me. As I listened between the lines, I observed something very important. Yes, she had catapulted. But she still identified a lot with the Sr Manager. You see, I am not only interested in helping you land a promotion and make more money. I am interested in helping you totally transform your thinking so that your actions and words are in line with the higher levels of success you seek. I share the common ways your actions can betray your limited confidence in yourself and how to address this. In this session, we discuss WHAT SKILLSETS YOU ACTUALLY NEED ON YOUR TEAM. Last Thursday, we discussed what it means to actually be qualified, especially for a ambitious, skip-level role. Beyond a certain level, it has very little to do with your technical expertise. This week, I want to speak directly to people leaders and hiring managers. What skills or competencies do you actually need on your team? Where can you find them? In this episode, we will remove your biggest obstacle to finding the talent you need NOW so you can drive peak results in your organizations. In this session, we discuss ARE YOU ACTUALLY QUALIFIED? There is one pattern I see among many high-performing women in Corporate that really bothers me. Can you guess what it is? Not going after an ambitious, thrilling opportunity even though you really, really want it. Saying to yourself, "They want 20 years experience and I have 13." or "They want someone with 8 year Retail Leadership experience and I don't have that." And then you take yourself out of the running. And it seems logical. Reasonable even. Because you should follow the rules, right? One social media trend that emerged last year and continues to gain traction in 2016 is video live-streaming via mobile app. In this Thought Leader Thursday riff, Trevor Young explains the lay of the land when it comes to video live-streaming via mobile device and the opportunities it provides from a personal branding perspective. Trevor discusses the various apps currently available, including Periscope, MeVee, Blab and Facebook Live, as well as a new social audio platform called Anchor, which is starting to generate some buzz in digital circles.
In this Thought Leader Thursday mini-episode of REPUTATION REVOLUTION, host Trevor Young discusses discusses why it's important to stick to your principles when it comes to promotional tactics such as email marketing. Trevor provides the example of one recent email campaign that left him cold; rather than build a relationship or take him that extra step down the sales funnel, the email marketer lost Trevor's respect and his business.
In this Thought Leader Thursday mini-episode of Reputation Revolution, Trevor Young discusses why aspiring thought leaders need to devote time and head space to building out their 'clusters on influence' - those groups of people who are influential in their own right, who are connected, who might be media channels in their own right, who drive the conversation around issues and topics near and dear to your professional heart. Get to know who these people are, and set about connecting with them - over time, build a rapport with them; but, the key is to be genuine about it. This is not 'what's in it for you' territory, this is about becoming a valuable part of other people's networks and eco-systems.
In this short Thought Leader Thursday episode, Trevor Young discusses whether aspiring thought leaders need their own personal website (with a domain containing their name) or can they get by using their existing business website.
