In this episode of the Ephesiology Podcast, Michael T. Cooper and Andrew Johnson introduce Dr. Cooper's seminar, “Let the Stones Speak,” part of the Archaeology Meets Missiology series. The conversation explores five archaeological discoveries that preserve early memories of Jesus across Asia Minor, North Africa, Edessa, and the Arabian Peninsula. From inscriptions and graffiti to apocryphal traditions and Christograms, these discoveries reveal how the early church remembered, proclaimed, and worshiped Jesus, not only through written texts, but also through the material record left behind in stone. Along the way, Michael reflects on the difference between what Jesus did and who Jesus is, showing how archaeology can deepen our understanding of early Christology and encourage the church today. Keywords: Archaeology, Missiology, Ephesiology, Let the Stones Speak, Memory of Jesus, Early Church, Christology, Functional Christology, Ontological Christology, Abgar and Jesus, Edessa, Smyrna, Sardis, Pantokratoros Inscription, Christogram, North Africa, Thugga, Jordan, Arabian Peninsula, Crypto Portico, Archaeological Record, Material Culture, Early Christian Witness, Jesus in Archaeology, Gods Emperors Philosophers and a New Movement Key Takeaways Archaeology preserves early memories of Jesus. The episode highlights how inscriptions, graffiti, letters, and symbols offer physical evidence of how Jesus was remembered and proclaimed in the early centuries of the church. The archaeological record complements the biblical text.Michael emphasizes that while Scripture remains central, material culture provides additional historical evidence for what early Christians believed about Jesus. The early church remembered both what Jesus did and who Jesus is.The conversation introduces the distinction between functional Christology—what Jesus did—and ontological Christology—who Jesus is in his essence. Five discoveries point to the wide geographical reach of Jesus memory. The seminar focuses on evidence from places such as Edessa, Smyrna, Sardis, North Africa, and the desert of Jordan. The Abgar-Jesus tradition reflects a broad and enduring memory.Though apocryphal in nature, the Abgar tradition is significant because of its wide geographical spread across places such as Egypt, Armenia, and Turkey. The Sardis Pantokratoros inscription raises important questions.Michael notes that the inscription may contribute to broader evidence suggesting Christian use of the so-called synagogue at Sardis. The Christogram in North Africa shows how Christian symbols could be overlooked or forgotten.Michael recounts seeing a Christogram dismissed as a sundial, showing how visible Christian memory can remain unrecognized in certain contexts. The Arabian Peninsula may yield more discoveries. The Jordan inscription points toward the possibility of future finds that may further illuminate the presence and memory of Jesus in Arabia. Research continues after publication.Andrew notes that Michael's seminar includes discoveries and developments not fully represented in his book, reminding listeners that scholarship is an ongoing process. Archaeology can be faith-building and encouraging. The episode closes with the reminder that seeing the historical and physical impact of Jesus across regions and centuries can strengthen faith and deepen wonder. Pick up Dr. Cooper’s latest book Religions, politics, and education shaped the cultural world of Asia Minor where a new faith emerged that would change history. Gods, Emperors, Philosophers, and a New Movement uncovers how the earliest Christians navigated—and often disrupted and adapted—the dominant forces of their age. Drawing on decades of research, fieldwork, and teaching, Michael T. Cooper takes readers beneath the surface of Ephesos, Smyrna, Pergamon, and other cities to reveal how temples, inscriptions, and civic spaces illuminate the missionary impulse of the first Christians. Far from being silent, the archaeological record testifies to their resilience, creativity, and bold proclamation of the gospel in a world saturated with competing loyalties. This is more than history. By examining how the early church encountered powerful religious traditions, political ideologies, and systems of education, today's missionaries and church leaders gain fresh vision for gospel engagement in their own pluralistic and contested contexts. The dynamics that shaped mission in the first centuries—identity, power, worldview, and cultural disruption—remain central to how the good news advances today. This book is an invitation to rediscover the mission of God in the archaeological record and to discern its enduring relevance for faithful witness in the twenty-first century. In this winsome study, Ephesiology offers readers a comprehensive view of the empowering work of the Holy Spirit in the most significant city of the New Testament, and compels us to ask the question: how can we effectively connect Christ to our culture? “Masterfully handling the book of Ephesians and using its content as a definitive guide, Michael Cooper lays a theologically strong foundation that is both corrective and directive to disciple making movements. The principles he gleans from the book of Ephesians and related texts, help to ensure the on-going multiplication and maturation of a movement. Ryan, Carter, and Daniel kick this episode off with a recap of the BET Awards, which honored Busta Rhymes with a Lifetime Achievement award, and included performances from Ice Spice, Latto, and a beautiful tribute to Takeoff from Quavo and Offset. JT and Uzi beefed over his alleged flirting with Ice Spice at the show, and Daniel and Ry question the nature of the two's long, but on and off relationship. The guys discuss the importance of brotherhood when dealing with the loss of someone or something, and how amazing it was to see Quavo and Offset hit the stage together after a two year long feud. The guys also discuss Young Thug's new album, "Business is Business", and share their opinions on the status of Thugga and Gunna's confusing relationship. They review both artists' projected (confirmed for Gunna) frist week sales, and the current state of the YSL Trial. The trio speaks on "Ocean Gate", and the internet's harsh response to the tragedy. Finally, they share songs from their favorite artists that made the 2023 XXL Freshmen List, including Lola Brooke, SleazyWorldGo, and Luh Tyler. Greetings... you're now entering This Thing Of Minds Podcast with your hosts the Astonishing Adonis Gbaby, the Unbiased Thinker SativaDaDiva and your Favorite Internet Cousin, PopItForMilt. (Excuse the fireworks in the beginning, niggas ain't popped all they firecrackers off) Join your favorite Space Kadets as we talk about some things before the Adonis goes to ATL. DJ Akademiks made a statement about rappers looking crazy in front of billionaires. Meek Mill was bunny hopping and Lil Baby made a bet saying he'll cut his dreads. We discuss how it doesn't look right. Though Sativa and Milt say, "it's white boy shit", the internet thing it's an odd look. Gunna was denied bail. Facing 10 years, he'll be in jail until his January 2023 hearing. Them withdrawals killing him and Thugga cuz a nurse was caught for reportedly sneaking drugs into jail for Gunna. (As of this release, there has been pictures of the items but nobody confirmed if it was true) We still crack our jokes tho! Free the guys, we hope y'all beat the case or get probation! Rumored on the internet. R Kelly escaped from jail. This dude can't read or write, how in the hell is he gone escape? He ned to sit his ass down with the murderer of George Floyd's killer. (Smoking on that Cha--- pack!) Bay Area's own, DJ Vlad and NLE Choppa had a war of words over twitter that wasn't bout nothing but Maury threw a stray at Lil Durk. YB better? Yo Gotti just signed fellow Memphis rapper, Glo'Rilla, to his record label, Collective Music Group (also known as CMG The Label). People are pulling up old tweets that Glo'Rilla tweeted about Yo Gotti being lame and comparing him to Dolph. We crack our jokes about what we would do. (remember them old Meek tweets about Rick Ross?) Sativa asked the guys if we want independent women. (She was listening to some podcast) The fellas keep it real about our situations and how we handle things. Fighting demons? Yeah, ok! We also discussed the BET awards. You can tell we don't watch them anyone. But congrats to all the winners, especially Lil Baby for winning "Gospel/Inspiration" award. (Adonis was shocked) R.Kelly got hit with a 30 year sentence in New York. (Nigga gone be giving free concerts like a muthaf...) But we talked about still listening to his music and cracked jokes about this sick man. Speaking of sick, Ceasar from 'Black Ink Crew' challenged his dogs to a WWE 'Tables, Ladders, & Chair' match. It took 2 unprotected chair shots and dog cage tossed off an incline for VH1 to pull the plug on his show. Kimberly Elise pissed people off with her IG post, celebrating the overturning of Roe v Wade. Now we see why Charles did her like that! Eric Holder couldn't go to court because he got his ass beat in jail. Justice for Nip! Cardi B new song, 'Hot Shit' ft Lil Durk and Kanye West, just dropped. We played it on the pod and discussed our initial reaction. Lil TJay update: He's awake and the breathing tube is no longer needed. According to sources, he's awake and alert, voice is still the same. Investigation is still ongoing. The McDonalds skit involving with the baby mama mad at her baby daddy bringing his son food and not her other kids sparked a convo throughout the socials. Though the Adonis and Fav would be petty in the situation, Milt ain't buying a damn thang for your other kids. We talked about the skit and gave our 2 cents about it. There was a Twitter post that compared rappers to NBA players. The list compared Shaq to Lil Wayne, Giannis to Snoop, Jordan to Jay Z, just to give an example. The good folks at This Thing Of Minds Podcast formed our own list. Some of the comparisons were obvious but we had to really think about the others. Is Dennis Rodman, Young Thug? They are both talented but I mean, they both was in dresses, and painted their nails. And Rodman was an enforcer just like Thugga... anyway. SLAPPERS: Dom Kennedy "Corsa" John Gabbana "Not A Sad Song" Wallie the Sensei "03 Flow"

Game 3 of the Finals: What do the Cavs need to do win? GSW too good? Playoffs Been wack or nah? Super teams devalue the NBA? Buckeye Talk real fast: no more than 5mins Thad gone? Bout time or too soon? Song of the Summer? Drake and Khaled new record. Hot or nah nigga nah? Do we even care anymore? Jay electronica song. Bryson Tiller album Is it a young mans game and the old head rappers in the way? Lil Yachty (44k his 1st week) Kodak, Playboy Carti, lil uzi vert, Thugga, Travis Scott, 21savage Do they run rap now? Old in executive positions. Lyor, irv, Kev, puff, Dre, Russell. Do we feel like they in the way? Do we feel like they relate to what’s going on? Who should be in them positions? DION "NO I.D." WILSON has been named Executive Vice President of CAPITOL MUSIC GROUP Sickamore is Interscope's senior vice president of A&R and creative director Can Puff or Dre still make artist stars? Bill maher: House nigga comments. Tupac Movie: Comes out in a 2weeks Yall going to see it? Maino and wack Beefin 2 Chainz new album
follow the homie @lokrillin on instagram! All artists with the letter T dropped albums and we talk about them. Kanye's VMA speech was not as legendary as we thought, which takes us into the topic of politics and how the world is now in 2016. we touch on who really is a blood in the rap world? We basically go through the rap world and our thoughts on new and old artists all across the board but we focus on Travi$ scott towards the end. Exclusive music from Travi$ from his high school days where he was killing it with similar sounds he still makes! Make sure to follow and like for the support! If you ever want to be on just message me.
Yes, you read the episode right. Due to circumstances out of our control, our special edition of Episode 9 which features Outrageous Karina is postponed to next week (hopefully). So we didn't want to leave y'all hanging, so here is Episode 8.5. In this edition, Busby and JC discuss the Colin Kaepernick/National Anthem controversy and which players/coaches won the award for "Hoe Ass Nigga" of the Week. Busby also gives his review of Young Thug's Jeffery project and discusses if Thugga has become tolerable for his ears. The duo then talk about the VMAs, Teyana Taylor's dance moves in Kanye's "Fade" video. Drake simping for Rihanna, Chris Brown getting into trouble again, Kevin Owens winning the WWE Bhampionship, NFL season starting, and more. Busby and JC also get into a in-depth discussion on Michael Jackson's birthday. They talk about his legacy, which album was his best/worst, why nobody should have that "King Of Pop" crown, and his feud with Prince. You can say this is a filler episode, but it's a nice appetizer for next week! Hopefully...

Well respected in the community B.R. hails from the Bronx, New York.
