Megan's mother has recently died in a car accident, which she blames on her father. Is Rich so in love with Megan that he'll watch her kill her own father?" Join hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell as they dive deep into one of the most bewildering teen films of the 1980s - Dream a Little Dream (1989). This surreal body-swap comedy starring the two Coreys (Feldman and Haim) alongside veteran actors Jason Robards and Piper Laurie proves to be a fascinating mess of metaphysical poetry, teen romance, and inexplicable violence.Following a recommendation from previous guest Corey Feldman himself, our hosts unpack this peculiar film where an elderly couple's meditation experiment goes wrong, causing Jason Robards' consciousness to become trapped in Corey Feldman's teenage body. What follows is a two-hour journey filled with Michael Jackson dance numbers, cryptic dream sequences, and a surprisingly dark subplot involving an unhinged boyfriend with a gun.The hosts discuss how the film's attempt to blend spiritual themes with teen comedy creates a confusing narrative that never quite comes together. They note how Corey Haim's character wasn't even in the original script, yet his improvised scenes end up being some of the most entertaining moments in the film. The podcast also explores the movie's bizarre editing choices, unnecessarily long runtime, and its struggle to maintain coherent character motivations.Key topics covered:The unusual chemistry between Jason Robards and Corey FeldmanCorey Haim's last-minute addition to the cast and his real-life broken legThe film's confusing dream logic and metaphysical elementsQuestionable subplot involving drugged teenagers and gun violenceExtended Michael Jackson-inspired dance sequencesThe movie's marketing focus on "The Two Coreys" despite Haim's minimal roleDiscussion of the 1995 sequel Dream a Little Dream 2Comparison to other body-swap films like Freaky (2020)In their final assessment, Krissy and Nathan rate the film three and four "broken legs" out of ten respectively, acknowledging its flaws while maintaining respect for the ambitious if misguided attempt to create something unique in the teen movie genre. While Dream a Little Dream may not be "so bad it's good," it certainly provides plenty of material for discussion and bewilderment. --We couldn't do this without your support of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast! 80's heartthrob Corey Feldman is an integral piece of film history from the decade. In movies like Gremlins, The Goonies, Stand By Me, and - alongside the second half of "The Two Coreys," Corey Haim - The Lost Boys, he was simply everywhere and seemingly in everything. Behind the scenes, however, his story was a much harder road - an abusive family, childhood sexual exploitation, and increasingly dire substance misuse. His adulthood, including two divorces and a just-announced third, is very clearly influenced by that childhood stolen by Hollywood and fame. Here's the very odd Today Show performance of Corey Feldman and his Angels (YouTube link). Content note: This episode includes allegations of child abuse, sexual exploitation, and substance misuse. To jump ahead to the start of the adult chapter of Corey's life, advance to around minute 35, depending on which ads are served earlier in the episode. This week, we revisit Dream a Little Dream, a film starring "The Two Coreys," Corey Feldman and Corey Haim.  We start with our snack review and learn a bit about the history of Nerds, how they got their "uncool" name, and how they're made.  Then, in our fun facts section, we talk about the phenomenon that was the Two Coreys, what movies these two stars made together, and how they seemed to be everywhere in the 1980s. We also talk about the inspiration for the film and the song "Dream a Little Dream of Me," and we shy away from the direct-to-video sequel.  After the recap and review, we have a fun sneak preview of next week's episode as Steve chooses what he's willing to watch! Did we love the movie? Did we hate it? Did Corey Feldman's Michael Jackson dance moves impress us? Listen to find out! Got Faded Japan ep 639 Ever seen the movie License to Drive? Well JOHNNY lived it! Well actually, only the first 15 minutes of the film, then the rest he didn't live at all. Especially that wild part when the mom in the movie almost gave birth when the car was flying in the air, yeah that didn't happen to Johnny. Or that super cool scene where the Two Coreys went to the pimp ass restaurant in a stolen car, that also didn't happen to Johnny. Nobody shot at Johnny and there were no drunk super hot girls puking on Johnny's dashboard.... Shit, this may just be the most boring podcast about getting a driver's license on the internets. History is always 20/20 if we decide to look.  Looking at history from the present perspective is a flawed exercise loaded with past judgment. Katrina Williams recently relocated to Los Angeles CA and began working for Volunteers of America as a Case Manager for the Hope for Homes Shelter Program in Pomona CA. During her employment with VOA one of her clients ended their life via sucuide with her client's sudden death, she realized the severity of the Los Angeles homeless crisis and developed the CFH supportive housing Program where she provides realistic resources (employment, counseling etc.) to meet her residents' realistic goals with housing. The mission is to changethe faces of homelessness by providing services that move clients from a life of dependencyinto a new life of self-sufficiency with independence.Founded by Katrina Williams, the event will honor late actor Gary Hays, known for The‘Burbs, Busted and Evil Laugh. Hays most recently appeared as himself in Corey Feldman'sdocumentary My Truth…The Rape of Two Coreys. He spoke candidly about his friendships withboth Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, as well as his own struggles with addiction, which hesadly succumbed to in 2019. Corey Feldman will honor Hays at the event and there will also bea live musical performance.Feldman states “Katrina is the most sincerely compassionate and selfless person I haveever come into contact with in the Social Services work force. The dedication and personaltouch she puts into everything she does gives me hope for the Millions of Homeless people inour Country, knowing that there are still people out there like Katrina who willingly do Gods workto help those who can no longer themselves, while refusing to give up as long as they are stillbreathing.”Katrina Williams worked closely with Hays during her employment with Volunteers ofAmerica. Following Gary's death, she was shocked and saddened to learn that there was notype of long-term housing offering supportive services for individuals suffering from addictionand coming directly from rehab. Taking matters into her own hands, she developed apermanent housing program with supportive services called Changing the Faces ofHomelessness. They help their residents by providing resources and tools to help themovercome their addictions and take ownership of their lives.Williams states “When I developed the program, I wanted to ensure our program wouldempower others by bringing life changing results. We finally have our first theme week! We are recasting The Lost Boys, the 80's vampire classic, but we are only allowed to cast with 90's actors. Not the easiest task when you've got legends like Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, and the Two Coreys involved. In addition to that 80's royalty, Dianne Wiest is her lovable, hippie self, and Jami Gertz is at her hair-metal-video-style apex. Edward Herrmann also has his nice-guy, single dad next door vibe really working here, until it takes a bit of a turn. We are even gifted with an appearance from Mr. Bill S. Preston, Esq. himself.   The movie holds up surprisingly well, and I'm not even coming from a nostalgic point of view, as I didn't see this movie until about 10 years ago. Outside of the feathered hair, music, and lack of cell phones, everything else feels relatively contemporary. There's something about this movie that seems so...familiar. We grew up taking a trip to the beach every summer which may account for that to an extent, but this could have just as easily taken place in a midwestern town during the annual carnival or fair. During the show, the usual banter takes place, but we really dig into the semantics of what constitutes a 90's actor, and at one point I was hoisted on my own petard, which I do not appreciate. Overall, we put forth a damn good 90's cast.   As always, thanks for listening!
